Black Men Build is a grassroots membership organization whose mission is to give Black Men and their families all the tools necessary to become a powerful organized political force for liberation. We recruit, develop, and organize Black Men in ways that no other organization is doing with a commitment to love, grace, accountability, and power We are bringing Black men into the movement for racial, gender, and social justice through healing, power-building campaigns, and political education
NATURE OF POSITION:
Black Men Build is seeking a highly motivated and strategic-minded individual to fill the role of lead organizer for our Atlanta hub location. The BMB lead organizer in Atlanta is a local position that will operate out of our Campbellton Road hub and report directly to the field leadership team The Lead Organizer at Black Men Build plays a pivotal role in coordinating and leading community engagement initiatives, electoral efforts, and social justice actions at the local level. This position is responsible for maintaining a physical community location, overseeing men’s circles, organizing community programming, and ensuring the alignment of activities with BMB's mission and objectives
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Community engagement. You’ll coordinate men’s circles, which are core to our work they’re spaces for healing, dialogue, accountability, and connection You’ll make sure these circles are consistent, well-facilitated, and welcoming. Beyond that, you’ll organize and lead community service initiatives that directly address local needs things like food distribution, neighborhood cleanups, or mutual aid efforts These programs help us build trust and show up in tangible ways for the people around us
● Membership Development You’ll recruit and engage local community members in BMB’s work, help them plug into meaningful activities, and nurture their growth as leaders Supporting the sustainability of men’s circles and service projects is key here they’re the foundation for deeper political and personal transformation
● Program Implementation. You’ll oversee everything from day-to-day logistics to long-term planning making sure each program is carried out effectively and stays in alignment with our mission That includes working closely with the national leadership team to ensure that our local political education efforts are strong, relevant, and well-integrated

● Hub Operations including s here our work can be rooted It’s your job to make sure the hub is r and ready to welcome the communityYou’ll collaborate e all our efforts are aligned, strategic, and well-supported

● Communication and Coordination You will be the link between your local hub and the national organization You’ll serve as the liaison, keeping both sides informed and aligned. On the education front, you’ll work closely with the national leadership to make sure our local efforts support BMB’s political education work
● Social Justice Actions. This means planning and executing initiatives rooted in BMB’s political values actions that call attention to injustice and create space for collective resistance. You’ll work to mobilize people, especially those who might not see themselves as “activists,” and help them find a meaningful way to engage and advocate for themselves and their community.
● Data Collection and Reporting. That includes tracking participation, assessing program impact, and maintaining detailed records of financial and operational activity It’s important not just for accountability, but for helping us reflect on what’s working and where we can grow.
QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, you don’t need to have every answer but you do need to have a foundation in community work We’re looking for someone who has real, hands-on experience in community organizing, social justice activism, or something closely related. You’ve been in the trenches before you know what it takes to bring people together, build trust, and move a campaign or a cause forward
Leadership is key here That doesn’t mean being the loudest voice in the room it means knowing how to guide, listen, and build with others You should be someone who people naturally look to, not just because you speak well, but because you lead with integrity and consistency. Strong interpersonal skills are a must you’ll be working with a wide range of people, and building real relationships is at the core of everything we do
Some familiarity with electoral processes and community engagement strategies will definitely help You don’t have to be an expert in policy or political science, but you should understand how civic engagement fits into the broader fight for justice and be able to support others in navigating that landscape.
More than anything, though, we’re looking for someone who is deeply committed to the principles and values of Black Men Build someone who is curious about this moment and believes in the deep transformational work that will help us to take a responsible role in our community. That commitment has to show up in how you work: with accountability, follow-through, and a willingness to grow alongside others
You should be comfortable taking initiative and working independently, but also know how to function within a team We operate collaboratively here no one carries the weight alone, and everyone contributes to the vision If you're organized, dependable, and driven by purpose, you'll be right at home in this role.
