UCBB offers a range of degree level programmes across two campuses – both set in stunning countryside. You’d be forgiven for presuming that all we have to offer is fields, but UCBB offers so much more.
East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are packed with quaint villages, historic towns, fun cities and areas of outstanding natural beauty. The landscape is outstanding, the people are friendly and they’re some of the most affordable places in the UK to live. What’s not to love?!
Plus, our small group sizes mean that you’ll make friends from day one, ready to head to one of our on-campus events or to explore the local area, from stunning Yorkshire and Lincolnshire coastlines, to bustling cities.
Just 15 minutes from our Riseholme College campus, Lincoln combines a rich history with a vibrant and contemporary edge. It’s packed with independent boutiques, great arts and culture, plus loads of places to eat and drink.
Your New Home
We welcome students from all over the UK and internationally, who are able to take advantage of our on-campus accommodation.
Living in our student village is a great way to meet people. It also means you’re only ever minutes away from your lectures, social events and our sports and fitness facilities.
UCBB’s student rooms are all ensuite. At the Riseholme College campus all rooms are half board. At the Bishop Burton campus, you can choose either half board or self-catered. You’ll have access to a shared kitchen with a fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave. If you opt for our self-catered halls, you’ll also have access to a full oven and a hob.
If you choose half-board, you’ll get a £1,000 contribution on your ID card to supplement the cost of food and drink within our catering outlets. Perfect if you don’t fancy cooking every day!
We want you to feel as happy and safe as possible whilst you’re living with us, so we have 24-hour security on campus and access to the halls is by swipe card or key only. We also have CCTV in operation across the site, which covers the front doors of our halls of residence.

At UCBB, we focus on more than just theory. Our campuses are packed with facilities to help you develop the skills you’ll need in the workplace and to drive those industries forward with your research. As well as tutor-led contact time each week, from lectures to on-campus work experience, we take a student-centred approach to help you to develop the independent learning skills, that will be vital in the workplace as well as during your time at UCBB. You will be expected to carry out a significant amount of independent study in addition to contact time.
Once you’ve cemented the theory in lectures, group sessions and tutorials, it’s time to put what you’ve learnt into practice! From developing your events management skills at large-scale equine competitions to undertaking research on our farms, we’ll ensure you’re ready to launch your career.
We prioritise involving students in research through a combination of curriculum integration, cuttingedge facilities and collaboration with experienced academic professionals.
Our programmes have been developed with our industry partners to ensure that we’re ticking all the boxes. You’ll hear from a range of guest speakers and be encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities and/or work experience to enhance your learning. As well as vocational learning on campus, mandatory work experience is integrated into some of our programmes.

Our BIAZA-registered Animal Management Centres are home to hundreds of animals. From squirrel monkeys at Bishop Burton to Yoshi, our Argentine black and white tegu, at Riseholme, you’ll learn first-hand about everything from welfare to training.
UCBB is proud to be a part of the Institutes of Technology (IoT) for Lincolnshire and Yorkshire and Humber, both of which specialise in delivering higher-level technical skills.
As part of these IoTs, we were able to launch two new buildings, packed with cutting-edge technologies – Bishop Burton’s Centre for Precision Agriculture and Riseholme’s Centre for Agri-Food Technology.
A collaboration between employers, the college and university level education providers, our IoTs are designed not only to future-proof the land-based industries but also the careers of our students.
Our focus on crops and animals means that students from across our Agriculture, Animal Sciences, Equine and Environmental Conservation faculties all benefit from the IoT, exploring topics such as:

There’s plenty to keep you busy at UCBB. We kick things off with Welcome Week, which is a great opportunity to meet people and see what life is all about at UCBB. Our Student Association plan events and activities on campus throughout the year too.

Why not get involved and have an influence on your university experience by joining our Student Association’s Student Leadership Committee? Come together to plan events, represent the student voice with a place on our Board of Governors, or raise funds for a charity close to your heart. We have a range of sports clubs at varying levels, from rugby to clay pigeon shooting, which are a great way to make friends. If playing team sports isn’t your thing, you can always cheer on our teams during their Wednesday afternoon matches or head to the gym instead. You’ll get discounted gym membership (or free membership if you live on campus!), giving you access to fitness classes such as yoga.

UCBB offers a range of programmes, all developed with industry, to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed within the workplace. As well as specialist modules for your subject, you will develop a range of transferable skills to improve your chances of employment, such as research methodologies, entrepreneurship and leadership.
Whichever subject you choose, your programme will be delivered by industry professionals. Whilst the specific lecturers you have may change during your time with us, check out our team profiles for an insight into the level of experience we look for in our team.

Are you aged 19+? Have you been thinking about studying for a degree or other university-level programme?
If you don’t have ‘traditional’ qualifications, such as a BTEC or A Levels, or have been out of education for some time, an Access to Higher Education course could be the perfect solution for you. They are intensive, one-year courses designed to get you ready to study at university.
The courses combine relevant academic subject knowledge with the techniques you need to study at university level, from research methods to academic writing and referencing.

Lots of universities accept Access to Higher Education qualifications, including UCBB, but we recommend you double-check with the university that you’re interested in.
The UCAS tariff points you would gain depend on the grade you receive - anywhere between 48 and 144 points.
You may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for your Access course. Even better, when you complete your degree the loan would be ‘written off’ by Student Finance England.

Agriculture:
Animal: Equine: Veterinary Science
Level 3
These programmes are designed for people aged 19+ who want to return to education, but may not currently meet the entry requirements to do so. They prepare students to study at degree-level.
Don’t forget to look inside!
Level 4
Equivalent to the first year of a full-time bachelor’s degree, these programmes give you the chance to explore a subject with the option to take a break before returning to the next stage of study, should you wish.
Level 4
When studied full-time, these are one-year programmes. These practical courses prepare you for work or to progress to higher level study, such as the second year of a Foundation or Bachelor’s degree.
Level 4
These employment-based programmes are designed for aspiring managers, including those looking to upskill within their field of employment. Study is on a day release or block basis. Apprenticeships can be started at any time in the year, provided you have appropriate employment.
Level 4 and 5
Available as Level 4 or 5 qualifications, HTQs are technical qualifications that employers have helped to develop so that you can get the right training and skills to succeed in the workplace.
Level 5
These two-year foundation degree programmes are flexible, technical and employment related degrees that incorporate work-based study. They also allow graduates to progress onto further study to achieve a BA or BSc degree.
Level 6
A traditional three-year degree programme when studied full-time. Here at UCBB, we offer these as Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Arts (BA). Where you see (Hons) you will graduate with honours, provided you meet the required academic standard needed.
Level 7
Level 6
These programmes allow you to top up your Level 5 qualification to achieve a full bachelor’s degree in one-year full-time or two-years parttime. You may wish to continue with the same subject, or, in some cases, you can switch to another subject.
These postgraduate courses are the highest level of study that we offer. To be eligible to study a master’s degree, students must have already completed a BSc or BA.

Take your skills to the next level, learning at our Centre for Precision Agriculture. You will have full access to our 360-hectare commercial farm, playing an essential role in helping us to meet our ambitious target to become carbon net-zero by 2030. The farm includes 120 hectares of arable, stabiliser cattle, a sheep flock and a state-of-the-art farrowing unit for pigs, developed in collaboration with White Rose Farms Ltd.
Our Centre for Agri-Food Technology will give you access to the latest equipment. You’ll also have access to a working farm, with arable land, sheep flock and Lincoln Red cattle.
Whichever campus you choose, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with research, working with a breadth of facilities, including our laboratories, which have been tailored to meet the needs of the land-based industries. You’ll be able to expand your knowledge with a range of exciting study trips. Our current students have experienced everything from machinery shows to Rotterdam’s Floating Farm.

Our BIAZA-registered Animal Management Centres house a huge range of species to give you the best hands-on learning experience. Species include primates, alpacas, marsupials, invertebrates, tropical fish, reptiles and rodents. You will also have access to our specialist laboratories, commercial livestock enterprises and equine yards. We run commercial dog grooming facilities at both campuses, plus boarding kennels at Bishop Burton. If you choose to study at the Riseholme campus, you may have the opportunity to access the wider collection of animal species and facilities held at Bishop Burton campus, with transport provided within your study day.
Your studies will be enhanced with visits from external speakers and field trips. Our students have visited everywhere from Donna Nook Nature Reserve to ARTIS, Amsterdam’s Royal Zoo.

Our three-year BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training programme has been formally recognised by the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) Programme Recognition Committee for providing the knowledge and understanding necessary to gain recognition as a ABTC recognised Animal Training Instructor. To gain recognition you will need to apply directly to ABTC and complete an assessment.

Meet Animal Sciences Lecturer
Hanne Grice is an animal behaviour expert. A former graduate of UCBB with an MSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training under her belt, Hanne is regularly in the media discussing topics such as canine training. She received silver awards for Best Animal Services and Best Customer Services at the Best Businesswomen Awards 2023 and was also Animal Behaviourist of the Year 2022-23.

Our British Horse Society (BHS) Approved Centres are an outstanding place to learn. Both offer access to indoor and outdoor arenas, rider performance and fitness suites and specialist laboratories. Our laboratories are fully equipped to ensure your research is as successful as it can be. You will have access to specialist equipment including Quintic Gait Analysis software, FLIR Thermal Imaging cameras, Polar Heart Monitors, Televet ECG, Synchronicity Rein Tension Gauges and Noldus Observe XP software.
Looking to bring your horse with you? We have stables available for livery on both campuses, with access to turnout areas. The stables are also home to our own horses, which you will work with as part of your studies.
At Bishop Burton, we also have a dedicated equine therapy and rehabilitation centre, complete with water treadmill, spa and solarium. Whichever campus you choose, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside our team on events such as Lincolnshire Horse Trials and the International Youth Championships, building up your industry experience.

Our BSc Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation programme has been accredited by the Animal Health Professions’ Register (AHPR), recognising the course’s ability to equip you to provide equine sports therapy that protects animal welfare, the interests of the horse owners and veterinary surgeons who will refer cases to you. You will also be able to apply for direct entry to AHPR making the application process straight forward.

With a background in microbiology, Rebecca worked for years as an equine therapist before moving into academia at UCBB. She has been involved in numerous research projects looking at equine kinematics on the water treadmill, equine behaviour and equine injury.

Our Bishop Burton campus is home to our Centre for Sport and Exercise Science. The centre incorporates the Human Performance Laboratory, which houses a range of equipment used to test and analyse performance and physiological capabilities. It is also home to our Sport and Exercise Therapy Clinic, which provides treatment for a range of sporting and clinical patients.
We have great partnerships with professional teams, national governing bodies, regional sports development and leading sports and exercise businesses. This gives our students access to great training and playing opportunities and to good quality internships. You’ll also have the chance to participate in study trips to further your knowledge, such as heading to Amsterdam to explore BODY WORLDS.

Craig is a sports performance analysis expert who enjoyed an exciting career working with Hull Kingston Rovers, Hull City FC Academy and New Zealand Rugby League before joining the UCBB team.
Boasting a PhD in Performance Analysis from the University of Hull, Craig is our resident specialist in sports performance analysis, heading up all performance analysis elements of UCBB’s Sports and Exercise Science programmes.
