From small steps to larger projects, we are working on multiple ways of supporting our carbon reduction targets. Here are just six things we’re doing to be more sustainable:
Aiming for a Carbon net-zero commercial farm, by 2030
We are currently on track to meet our ambitious target, working with partners such as Agrii, White Rose Foods Ltd and Stabiliser Cattle Co. From feeding only homegrown products to our livestock to adopting new precision agriculture technologies, there’s lots going on.
We have switched our disposable food packaging to eco-friendly alternatives.
We have a balancing lake that acts as a flood defence for the rural villages downstream. It also features as a water jump for our British Eventing Horse Trials!
Our grounds maintenance team is working towards becoming carbon net zero, with sports ground maintenance now
We’re capturing solar and wind energy to power our grounds maintenance equipment, including our robotic mower, chainsaws, leaf blowers and trimmers.
As a student with us, you’ll have the opportunity to gain new qualifications in sustainability as part of your chosen course. This enhanced knowledge of sustainability practices will be invaluable in your career.
We are replacing our older diesel-fuelled cars with electric vehicles.
Everyone learns in different ways, which is why we use a range of teaching methods to make sure that you are ready for your next steps, whether that’s going on to higher level study or to start your career.
You’ll make sure your theoretical knowledge is spot on in classroom sessions, before gaining practical experience on and off campus. Mandatory industry placements are integrated into some of our courses, but we encourage all students to take part in work experience and extra-curricular activities to deepen their knowledge, experience and skill sets.
Most of our full-time courses involve three days on campus, which includes time for independent study as well as lectures, seminars, on campus work experience, practical sessions and tutorials. You will also need to factor in time for independent study, at home or on campus.
You’ll love...
