Aiming for a Net-ZeroCarbon Farm
13
We are champions of sustainable farming techniques on our commercial farm at Bishop Burton, which is why we’ve set ourselves an ambitious target to reach carbon net-zero by 2030 – ten years ahead of NFU’s aim for farming nationally. Our key focus is precision agriculture and how we can help develop and support more sustainable farming practices from an economic and environmental point of view. We are dedicated to using the most forward-looking agricultural technologies to transform food production, reduce emissions, environmental damage, waste and soil erosion. As part of the Yorkshire and Humber Institute for Technology, more than £1.7m has recently been invested to develop our Centre for Precision Agriculture. This is a significant regional hub to support our students and the local farming community to be able to implement precision technologies in industry.

You will be encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities and/or work experience to enhance your learning. As well as vocational learning on campus, mandatory work experience is integrated into some of our programmes.
You will have tutor led contact time each week, which will include lectures, seminars, on campus work experience, practical sessions and tutorials. You are also expected to carry out a significant amount of independent study in addition to contact time. You can choose to do this from home or on campus.
Our student-centred approach will help you to develop the independent learning skills that are essential in the workplace, beyond your time at UCBB.
