Emblemático y famoso, el Hotel Nacional de Cuba ha devenido en referente de la industria hotelera en la nación caribeña. Y es que esta espléndida edificación combina, de manera elegante y sobria, neoclasicismo, art decó y detalles de la arquitectura islámica. Entre las distinciones que lo honran posee el título de Monumento Nacional, Hotel Museo y forma parte del Programa Memoria del Mundo, de la Unesco.

A classic of the Cuban hotel industry

Emblematic and famous, Hotel Nacional de Cuba has become a benchmark in the hotel industry in Cuba. This magnificent building combines, in an elegant and austere manner, neoclassicism, art deco and details of Islamic architecture. It has been awarded the title of National Monument, Hotel Museum and is part of UNESCO's Memory of the World Program.

Inaugurado en diciembre de 1930, con toda la majestuosidad que exigía la época, este año celebra su 92 aniversario, engalanado, como corresponde al clásico en que se ha convertido. Hotel insignia del Grupo Hotelero Gran Caribe, con categoría 5 estrellas y un servicio a la altura de su fama, esta extraordinaria reliquia seduce a los admiradores de la arquitectura y las artes decorativas. Su entrada es todo un acto de bienvenida. Su grandiosa estructura acoge más de cuatrocientas habitaciones, entre ellas varias suites y una suite presidencial, además de restaurantes, bares, piscinas, salones de reunión y cabaret. Custodiada por palmas reales y palmeras, su acceso vial guía hasta el portal palaciego que antecede al lobby. Con reminiscencias moriscas, techos de maderas preciosas, pisos de baldosas originales, candelabros, relojes de pie y otros tantos detalles que estimulan la capacidad de asombro, el visitante accede a un espectáculo admirable.

Opened in December 1930, with all the magnificence that prevailed at the time, this year it celebrates its 92nd anniversary, embellished, as it should be for the classic in which it has become. The flagship hotel of the Gran Caribe Hotel Group, with a 5-star category and a service worthy of its fame, this extraordinary antique seduces admirers of architecture and decorative arts. Its entrance is a welcoming experience. Its magnificent structure houses more than 400 rooms, including several suites and a presidential suite, as well as restaurants, bars, swimming pools, meeting rooms and cabaret. Surrounded by Royal Palms and palm trees, its road access leads to the entrance to the lobby, which is preceded by a palace-like portal. With Moorish influences, precious wood ceilings, original tile floors, chandeliers, grandfather clocks and many other details that result in astonishment, the visitor enters an admirable display.

Sus jardines, con vista al Malecón Habanero, son un apacible espacio de encuentros. Compartir en sus áreas es un verdadero placer: al aire libre o bajo los arcos de piedra de los portales, en confortables sillones de mimbre, saboreando un refrescante coctel cubano, con aire de mar y un buen son tocado en vivo. Solo imaginarlo, provoca vivirlo. En sus áreas, se combina también la historia de la isla, pues allí se mantienen expuestos varios cañones, de mediados del siglo XVIII que sirvieron como defensa de la zona, en su época y que forman parte del Patrimonio Mundial. El hotel, además de su belleza constructiva, posee entre sus erarios, más de cien obras patrimoniales compuestas por esculturas, fotos, pinturas, muebles, porcelanas y reliquias antiguas... un compendio de piezas que vale la pena contemplar.

Its gardens, overlooking the Malecón Habanero, are a peaceful meeting place. Meeting in its areas is a real pleasure: outdoors or under the stone arches of the portals, in comfortable wicker armchairs, sipping a refreshing Cuban cocktail, with sea air and a good live music. Just picturing it, is like living it. In its areas, the history of Cuba is also present, since several cannons from the mid-18th century are exhibited there, they were used to defend the area in their time and are part of the World Heritage. The hotel, in addition to its beautiful architecture, has among its treasuries, more than one hundred works of heritage made up of sculptures, photos, paintings, furniture, porcelain and antique relics... a collection of pieces that is worth admiring.

Todos estos atractivos lo convirtieron desde su fundación, en un lugar de visita ineludible en La Habana. Estrellas de Hollywood de las décadas del 40 y 50 del pasado siglo, se hospedaron en él y ahora integran el Salón de la Fama radicado en el agradable bar “Vista al Golfo”. Otras personalidades, como monarcas, jefes de gobierno, escritores, músicos, científicos, cineastas, deportistas, también forman parte de la larga lista de sus huéspedes ilustres. Y para los amantes del cine resulta atractivo saber que, cada diciembre, el hotel es sede del Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano. Con ello llega la fiesta del audiovisual y la visita de muchos actores y directores famosos. En la actualidad, incluso sin ser huéspedes, muchos van a disfrutar sus encantos, a través de visitas dirigidas. La estancia, las veladas, los recorridos, todo se torna mágico en este hotel que, con la prestancia de sus nueve décadas, yergue su imponente estructura, en uno de los espacios más carismáticos de la urbe habanera.

And for film lovers, it is interesting to know that every December, the hotel hosts the Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano (International Festival of New Latin American Cinema). This brings the audiovisual festival and the visit of many famous actors and directors. Nowadays, even without being guests, many go to enjoy its charms, through guided visits. The stay, the evenings, the tours, everything becomes magical in this hotel that, with the elegance of its nine decades, stands its imposing structure in one of the most charismatic spaces of Havana.
