When I launched this magazine, I aimed to dedicate the inaugural issue to the Black women in my network and community who were and still are true agents of change. I wanted to reflect our dedication within the name of this publication. Now, a successful year later, we continue to provide a platform for the Black men and women who are making a difference in our lives. We've shared stories of resilience, creativity, and empowerment, amplifying voices that often go unheard. Our publication has become a canvas for celebrating achievements, sparking important conversations, and inspiring future generations. As we move forward, we remain committed to shining a light on the remarkable individuals who shape our world, reminding us of all of the power and potential within our communities. We will not be silenced!
W When Lady Abiké Farley invited me to the editorial board I knew that; although I was extremely busy with my growing firm, I knew that I could not disappoint her. I had personally watched her champion the cause of our brothers and sisters across the diaspora. Her unwavering dedication and passion for elevating voices that often went unheard inspired me to take on the challenge. Joining the board was not just an opportunity; it was my responsibility and an honor to contribute to a vision that resonated deeply with my own values. I knew that together, under her leadership, we could drive meaningful change and create impactful narratives that celebrated our rich heritage and diverse experiences. This was more than just a role; it was a chance to be part of a movement that we believe will shaping the future for generations to come. When we control our own narratives about our successes and struggles, we have real power. I look forward to taking this magazine to newsstands and bookstores this year. A kind word of appreciation to the Subscribers who make our hard work a privilege and an encouragement.

Initially, these were instituted as training programs predominantly focused on eradicating racial discrimination. A mandatory training session were put into place along with questionnaires aimed at identifying personal biases However, this method faced challenges Studies found that these biasfocused trainings had little lasting impact as Managers and their employees learned to hide their ulterior motives. Especially where white male employees held majority of the power within organizations
The training was sometimes viewed as overly controlling, leading to DEI resistance rather than acceptance Another strategy used to combat bias was the implementation of hiring tests They were designed to assess candidates based on their skills and qualifications rather than their socioeconomic or racial backgrounds. Over time, organizations realized that a more holistic approach was needed to truly integrate DEI into the fabric of the workplace. This led to the development of comprehensive DEI initiatives that went beyond mere compliance, aiming instead to foster an inclusive culture where every individual felt valued and empowered Companies began to cultivate environments where open dialogue about diversity was encouraged, and leadership was held accountable for promoting equitable practices Employee resource groups (ERGs) emerged as vital platforms for underrepresented voices, providing a sense of community and advocating for meaningful change. Training programs evolved to emphasize empathy, cultural competence, and the importance of allyship skills that are crucial for building bridges across diverse groups.
Imagine the shock in 2024 When DEI was dismantled by a sudden policy shift that caught many by surprise. The decision came from Michael Cloud and was met with widespread criticism and concern, as it was seen as a step backward in the ongoing journey towards equality and inclusion. Organizations and advocates who had invested years in developing robust DEI frameworks voiced their dismay, emphasizing the critical role these initiatives played in creating fair and supportive workplaces
Despite the dismantling, many companies chose to continue their DEI efforts independently, recognizing the value it brought not only to their employees but also to their overall success. These organizations became champions of diversity. There is much that we can do, all people of every Nationality and Race. Time to Divest! . In February we will print the names of Company who want your dollars but not your presence

From my kitchen to your table; with Chef Francina Best of Bestee’s Catering
2 lbs bones from a protein source
1 gal water
2 TBSP ACV
1 onion
2 carrots
2 stalks of celery
1 TBSP salt
1 tsp peppercorns
3 bay leaves
2 cloves garlic
1 bunch parsely
10minutes of preparation
COOK TIME 3 hours
During the first hour of simmering, you’ll need to remove the impurities that float to the surface. A frothy/foamy layer will form and it can be easily scooped off with a big spoon
If you are using raw bones, especially beef bones, it improves flavor to roast them in the oven first. I place them in a roasting pan and roast for 30 minutes at 350°F.
Place the bones in a large stock pot or the Instant Pot. Pour cool filtered water and the vinegar over the bones. Let sit for 20-30 minutes in the cool water. The acid helps make the nutrients in the bones more available.
Rough chop and add the onion, carrots, and celery to the pot.
Add any salt, pepper, spices, or herbs, During the last 30 minutes, add the garlic and parsley, if using.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Strain using a fine metal strainer to remove all the bits of bone and vegetable When cool enough, store in a gallon size glass jar in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze for later use

Who are you? It seems like a simple question. yet the answer is far more complex. We are shaped by the success and failures of our lives. From the way we are lifted up and celebrated to the way we are punished and chastised. The presence and absence of a father can determine the way we receive and or accept discipline. The things we see will sharpen and blurt our vision.

1 Corinthians 13:11 KJV When I was a child I spake as a child but when I became a man I put away childish things. What have we put away to be here today? Do we keep our word? Do we show up on time? Do we take accountability for our mistakes and errors? Are we without flaw, so we cast stones because we are perfect in everything we do?
May you be transformed for the better. May the circumstances of your life put you in place of growth. Regarding your health, your finances, your business, and your relationship with the Father. May we be transformed by the number of times we’ve been protected, healed and forgiven. May we be transformed to be our best selves. especially when we are compelled to be the opposit.
All of my clients, friends, and family know how passionate and dedicated I am to Telfar! Not only do I own more than 18 of their bags, but I’ve also given them as gifts to my loved ones. For instance, my mom, who had sworn off big brands years ago, received her own bag from me as a Mother’s Day gift, and she has since become a genuine supporter of the brand and its values.

The Telfar Shopping Bag is made of vegan leather and features the signature “TG” Telfar logo, which makes it instantly recognizable. It has been widely discussed in major fashion publications, which have labeled it as the most significant accessory of the decade. In 2017, Telfar was the first Blackowned brand to win CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, and since then, the brand, as the Brand is a staple in my styling repertoire.
You may recall that earlier this year, I reached out to them to share my admiration, and true to their business values, they genuinely listened! I was absolutely elated to discover that a Brand, which I love to send my hard earned COINS, truly valued my support. I am forever a fan of Telfar!
As a black creative I believe in responsible consumerism and I will always use my platform to provide an honest and authentic perspective. I owe it you, our faithful readers and I owe it to my mother who fights a good against injustices towards our Community. So thank you, Telfar for making me feel SEEN!

IIn a world that often demands perfection and resilience, it can feel like admitting we’re not okay is a sign of weakness. Yet, the truth is, life brings challenges, pain, and seasons of uncertainty that no one escapes. It’s okay not to be okay, because acknowledging our struggles is the first step toward healing and growth. The Bible reminds us that even the strongest individuals faced moments of despair. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Apostle Paul writes, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Paul’s words reflect a beautiful truth: our struggles are not the end of us. Instead, they are opportunities for God’s grace to work in our lives. When we admit that we’re not okay, we make space for His power to strengthen us.
Self-Reflection: Embracing the Truth
Take a moment to ask yourself: What emotions am I suppressing because I feel they’re “unacceptable”? Who or what am I leaning on during this challenging time? How can I extend grace to myself as God extends grace to me?
Acknowledging that you’re not okay doesn’t mean you’re failing; it means you’re human. Be honest with yourself and recognize the weight you’re carrying. Journaling or talking with a trusted friend or counselor can help you process these feelings in a safe space.
God’s Invitation to Rest
Jesus offers us a lifeline in Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” When we’re honest about not being okay, we can fully accept the rest and peace that Jesus promises. It’s not about fixing everything at once, but about trusting Him to guide us step by step.
1. Lean into Community: Surround yourself with people who love and support you unconditionally. Share your struggles and allow them to walk with you.
2. Engage in Self-Care: Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and movement to care for your body and mind.
3. Anchor in Scripture: Reflect on comforting verses, such as Psalmist lm 34:18, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
4. Pray with Honesty: Lay your feelings at God’s feet. He already knows your heart and is waiting to comfort you.
Final Reflection
Take a moment to sit quietly and breathe deeply. Whisper this prayer: *Lord, I come to You with my struggles and my brokenness. I know You see my heart and love me as I am. Please give me the courage to embrace my feelings and trust Your plan.

Have you ever paused to think about the kind of parent you want to be, and why? Culture, systems, and our upbringing shape how we parent. From the values we hold to the environment we live in, these factors influence our approach. Being a Black parent in America is especially challenging, as we exist in a society built on racism, individualism, patriarchy, and capitalism. But there is hope we can choose a parenting approach that is reflective, intentional, and purposeful. With a background in child development and education, the early stages of parenting came naturally to me. However, I wasn’t prepared for the weight of responsibility it takes to raise confident, curious, creative, and spiritually grounded children.
Parenting requires full involvement it’s not something you can "halfstep." While teachers, family, and our village play key roles, we as parents must lay the foundation I challenge you to reflect: What type of parent do you want to be? Consider your beliefs and values, and how they shape your parenting. There are no wrong answers this exercise is about cultivating intention. I can’t wait to hear your reflections. Next time, we’ll dive deeper into how to become the parent you envision

Fad diets are eating plans often marketed as the “best” or “fastest” way to lose weight, promising dramatic results and a healthier you. However, most lack scientific backing and are unsustainable in the long run These diets typically involve extreme measures, such as eliminating specifici foods, banning entire food groups, or overhyping the benefits of a single food item. While they might result in short-term weight loss, their restrictive nature makes them difficult to maintain.
According to Ohio State University, restrictive calorie diets can disrupt your body’s natural balance Here’s how:
• Slower Metabolism: Reducing calorie intake slows down your metabolic rate, making it harder to sustain weight loss
• Hunger and Satiety Hormones: These diets can increase levels of ghrelin (the hunger hormone) while decreasing leptin (the satiety hormone). This means you feel hungrier and less satisfied with the food you eat.
• Mental and Emotional Strain: Calorie restriction can heighten food preoccupation and intensify the brain’s reward response to high-calorie foods, increasing cravings.
Many fad diets target certain foods or entire food groups, increasing the risk of nutrient deficiencies. Prolonged deficiency can lead to serious health issues, even if the effects aren’t immediate. Cutting out essential nutrients compromises your health and diminishes your energy and immunity over time.
Fad diets often fail because they offer a “quick fix” rather than a sustainable solution. They focus on short-term results rather than long-term health. The best thing is a balanced lifestyle that incorporates: Foods you enjoy in moderation, regular exercise and healthy habits that you can maintain over time

Judith Ridley is certified Holistic Integrative Nutrition Health and Wellness Coach, committed to empowering her clients to reach their optimal wellness goals. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes personalized, one-on-one support that is specifically tailored to meet the unique needs and lifestyle of everyone she works with. Judith’s approach is both comprehensive and integrative, shining light on the awareness that nutrition, is both on and off the plate.
How did you get started on your journey into Entrepreneurship?
During the pandemic, I engaged the services of a mindset coach. That was actually my greatest investment in myself to date We embarked on a 14-day manifestation ‘Date with the Divine’. During one of my meditation sessions, I literally envisioned an auditorium with 350 people in it, sitting there waiting for the speaker I turned to her (my Coach) and said they’re all waiting for you. She looked at me and said no, they’re all waiting for you Judith. This transformative experience was the catalyst for my journey, ultimately leading to the creation of the Nutrition Wellness Plate
What preparation or skill did you need for your business?
That’s an excellent question. I achieved my Coaching certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN), a one-year program. I also stay abreast by attending several seminars on holistic healing and mindset awareness.
My business model is centered around the principles of prioritizing people over profit. Money is the smallest manifestation of abundance, as spoken by my Coach. My passion as a wellness advocate is to meet people where they are and to guide them to reaching their higher self. Wellness is not linear nor is it a destination, it’s a journey that takes daily practice.
I am deeply passionate about creating a container in which women can thrive in a judgement free environment. Helping them (myself included) shifting the focus from the numbers on the scale to embracing a whole-person health approach, the scale is not the definition of health, it’s an indicator or a tool Whenever the mind, body and spirit are aligned, health flourishes
What advice would you give to your 18 year old self?
My advice would be to simply trust yourself. You cannot get it wrong, each experience serves as a lesson, a roadmap, or a guide… do more of it if it serves you, and less of it, if it doesn’t. 27
You don’t have to be religious to sense that God is doing something for His children. The playing field is about to be leveled
A transfer of wealth is currently taking place in the Spiritual Realm. Proverbs 13:22 states, "The wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just."
Earlier this year, many Spiritual Leaders have conveyed that God has addressed the unjust actions of this System of things His people and will no longer overlook the wrongdoing in the Marketplace. He reminds us of Proverbs 13:11: "Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow." Now is the moment to organize your financial affairs and embrace good stewardship.
Studies consistently prove that women who network are 65% more successful than their peers who are afraid to admit that they may need help
Building connections not only leads to career advancement but also fosters a supportive community where individuals can share resources, insights, and encouragement In today's fast-paced world, having a strong network can be a gamechanger, offering opportunities for collaboration and innovation that might otherwise remain out of reach. By embracing the power of networking, women can inspire each other, break through barriers, and create a legacy of empowerment for future generations. Whether through professional organizations, social media groups, or community events, the potential to learn and grow is limitless when we come together and lift each other up
I will never apologize for my authentic love for my sisters, as I understand that few endure struggles like we do. If I were to disregard Black women, it would make me unfaithful to our shared experiences
