Lane Students: Lane Students can meet at the Middlesex Overflow Parking lot at the VA (210 Springs Road) no later than 7:50 AM to walk to Lane School This walk/roll will be supervised by Recreation Staff

Davis Students: Davis Students are encouraged to park at the Lutheran Church parking lot to walk or roll to school with their parents at 8:40 AM

Happy National Hot Chocolate Day! What better way to celebrate than enjoying a make-your-own hot chocolate bar while getting some hair tinsel. This event is open to children and adults of all ages. Each participant will get up to 5 strands of tinsel in their hair. Time slots will be assigned to each individual or pair after registration.

This contest is an opportunity for you to show off your home and winter light display! Only displays visible from the roadway will be considered as part of the display. The contest is free and open to all Bedford Residents.

The entries will be posted on our Facebook Page and the display that receives the most kes” will be the winner! By entering, all homes rant permission for their address to be cluded on a list to be published for the ommunity to visit the light displays.

Registration is OPEN for this contest

Winter Preschool Programs

Preschool Indoor Soccer (Ages 2-5)

Instructor: Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Our caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching, curriculum and communication.

9:00-9:30 AM: Soccer Shots Mini (Ages 2-3) Max 10

Soccer Shots Mini program high-energy program introducing children to fundamental soccer principles, such as using your feet, dribbling and the basic rules of the game. Through fun games, songs and positive reinforcement, children will begin to experience the joy of playing soccer and being active. This is a parent-and-me program. One adult must participate each week.

9:40-10:20 AM: Soccer Shots Classic Hybrid (Ages 3-4) Max 12

Soccer Shots Classic Hybrid program utilizes creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, teamwork and appreciation. We use a progression for the scrimmages at the end of each session.

10:30-11:15 AM: Soccer Shots Classic (Ages 4-5) Max 12

Soccer Shots Classic program utilizes creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. Music Together is an early childhood music program that allows children and their parents/caregivers to use their primary instrument, which is their voice, as the foundation for community music making Along our voices, we will add our second most important instrument (our bodies) to tap and clap to the beat of the songs we sing Each class we dance and we use percussion instruments Full participation from the parents/caregivers is expected and needed to achieve the goals of the class: to help the kids develop tonal and rhythmic competence while experiencing the joy of making music along the people who love them and care for them "

Preschool Gymnastics (Ages 1-5)

Jennifer brings oodles of energy to keep kids moving in her preschool gymnastics/movement classes Adult participation is required when noted Children participate in bare feet

Toddler Tumblers (with adult participation): This class is the perfect combination of fun and learning. There will be a different theme each week involving different equipment. Participants will roll down the mat, walk across the beam, swing like monkeys, and jump like frogs. Parachutes and stamps complete this magical gymnastics class. Children must be walking to participate. (max 15)

Preschool Gymnastics (without adult participation): This class teaches beginning skills that will be useful for any sport. Focus is placed on strength and flexibility while building balance and body awareness. Gymnastics equipment is used in this class to reinforce gymnastics skills. (Max 15)

Little Farmers (Ages 2.5-5)

Instructor: Chip in Farm

Join our farmers to help care for the baby goats, cows, and miniature horse Clyde at Chip-in Farm! The Little Farmers will learn what it takes to be a farmer through stories, games, crafts, and real farm work. When our chores are done, we will have fun playing outside on the farm together and in the surrounding fields and forest. The farm offers a full sensory experience for your Little Farmer. This program is for children ages 2.5-5. This is a drop-off class but parents are always welcome to join!

Jr. Marble Run (Ages 3-5)

Instructor: Sports Zone 101

A Marble Machine is a creative ball-run contraption, made from familiar materials, designed to send a rolling marble through tubes and funnels, across tracks and bumpers, and into a catch at the end! Sure, Marble Runs are a ton of fun to make and to use, but they also make great engineering challenges for kids, they can be a fantastic tool for teaching children how to work collaboratively with their classmates and peers, and they allow children to explore problemsolving in a fun and interactive way We will supply all Marble Run sets for classes, but there will also be some time for free building during our classes if your child wants to bring in their own materials

While many of our programs are focused primarily on play, this program dives a little deeper into the intricacies of one of the fastest games out there Participants will have a chance to learn the fundamentals of hockey, like stick handling, passing, spacing, communication, and rotation, and take part in a variety of mini-games While the goal of this program is to learn a little more about the ins and outs of Hockey, you can be sure that plenty of fun will be had by all! Participants will also receive a daily pack of sports cards!

Explore the Bedford Science Center at Lane School (Ages 3-5 with Caregiver)

Welcome to the Bedford Science Center, where science comes to life! In this hands-on program, young explorers will embark on an exciting adventure through the Science Center. From hens and curious guinea pigs to slithering snakes, and fun geckos, the Science Center is home to a variety of animals that will spark your child's curiosity and love for science. Students will not only observe these amazing creatures, but they will also help care for them! They'll assist with feeding the animals, learn about their unique habitats, and discover how the Science Center operates to keep the animals healthy and happy. Children will gain a deeper understanding of the natural world in an interactive, fun, and educational way

Late Pick Up Policy for Bedford Recreation Programs:

Children not picked up on time from Recreation Programs may be given a one-class suspension and children who are not picked up on time twice for the same program may be removed from the program

Please have a contingency/back up plan for traffic or other delays and communicate the need to use this plan as soon as you suspect you are running late

Our instructors/staff have family and/or other work obligations that they must attend to. We appreciate your adherence to the program pick up times.

Learn and reinforce basic principles. This class covers the topics like: Piece names/movement, starting position, turn-sequence, piece values, special rules, general board competencies, and checks/checkmates. We'll learn about notations for reading (and writing) games. We'll do lots of problem-solving work, so be prepared to exercise your brain. Students will be able to play with each other as well as their instructor to practice their skills and learn. All equipment Is provided for this program.

Davis Art is a Davis Art is a drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture class focused on technique and experimentation. We will work with traditional media such as charcoal and acrylic paint. We will also get messy and creative with paper mache and we will learn simple sewing to investigate different mixed media. The class starts with a read-a-loud and ends with the last few minutes supervised outside on the playground (weather permitting). Please send a snack for the beginning of the programdrawing, painting, print making, and sculpture class focused on technique and experimentation. We will work with traditional media such as charcoal and acrylic paint. We will also get messy and creative with paper mache and we will learn simple sewing to investigate different mixed media approaches. Please send a snack for the beginning of the program.

This program is for kids who love Minecraft or want to learn what it is all about! This program will use the Minecraft: Education Edition and will take place in the Davis School Library. This program will include introduction to basic mouse and keyboard controls to building, design and decoration, mining and crafting techniques, and farming plants and animals. Student will also have an opporunity to play and explore the game they loving using the education edition. Please send a snack for your child to have before the class.

Let’s get creative with electricity! Kids’ Test Kitchen presents kids the opportunity to explore new or familiar foods in their raw, unmanipulated state. Then, working as a team, they’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook until they’ve prepared the finished dish. Class closes with an opportunity to taste the result of their hard work. Students receive a printed recipe card and the focal ingredient - or a sample of the finished dish - so they can show off what they learned! Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy Kids’ Test Kitchen, where participation is encouraged, and the choice to taste is always one’s own. Lessons are planned to celebrate seasonal produce, whole grains, and legumes. Yes – join us again! Each series of classes offers fresh new recipes to prepare and explore! Bundle up and enjoy this fun winter activity! The Nashoba Tubing Park is large and offers a variety of well-maintained tubing trails as well as a lift to the top of the hill The bus leaves Lane School at dismissal and transports participants and volunteers to Nashoba The bus will return to Lane School at promptly 4:45 PM Please bring snow gear with an eye toward the wind chill and potentially wet, slushy conditions on occasion

What is Therapeutic Recreation?

Therapeutic Recreation is a process that utilizes recreation and leisure to provide adaptation and support to individuals of all abilities within recreation programs and services Participating in Therapeutic Recreation programs can promote independence and encourage improvement in social, emotional, cognitive and physical wellbeing.

Mission & Goals:

Bedford Recreation Department's mission is to create and implement recreation programs that are inclusive to participants of all ages and abilities. This includes individuals with cognitive, developmental, social, emotional and intellectual disabilities.

Goals of Therapeutic Recreation:

Enhance and enrich quality of life

Promote a positive leisure lifestyle

Create community engagement opportunities

Provide recreation and leisure resources

Our inclusion program provides extra support to participants during recreation programs.
