Cyanotypes Prints (Prussian-blue image on a white background) also known as ferro-prussiate, blue print process or simply as sun prints, were invented and named by Sir John Herschel in 1842 and are one of the oldest photographic processes. This method was popularized by Anna Atkins, one of a handful of women working in photography in the mid-1800s who published multiple botanical books. Cyanotypes are one of the easiest photographic printing techniques and can easily be made at home without expensive equipment or a photography darkroom. In this workshop, you will learn how to make dry and wet cyanotypes from found plant material, as well as experiment with kitchen spices and suds, we will work with the sun as our UV light source. The chemicals needed are easy to source and inexpensive (because there are no precious metals involved). This class would be great for any creative being and/or plant lover who wants to jump into the world of alternative photographic printing techniques. After a brief introduction, students are hands-on with the inks, learning basic techniques then creating their own works of art on tile/paper that they can take home. This class offers an introduction to the essential elements of fiction. We will use example texts from established writers to discuss how these elements can be used to enhance our own work. Students can expect to start the class by focusing on generating work, after which we will focus on ways to revise our stories. Nick fell in love with partner dancing over 14 years ago through contra, blues, and fusion dancing. Seven years ago he left his bio chemistry job to pursue his passion and share his love of dancing as a professional ballroom teacher. As a professional dance teacher, Nick discovered that he loved teaching and supporting other teachers. This interest led Nick to make another career jump and start his own independent dance studio with his partner Maretta. Their goal is to build community and connection through ballroom and partner dancing. At Ignis, they try to make dancing accessible by offering affordable dance lessons, while supporting local artists to build successful and financially viable careers as dance teachers.
