Summer Adventures has been a Bedford tradition since 1975 Operated by the Bedford Recreation Department, Summer Adventures is designed to provide children with a safe and fun summer experience where they can make lifelong memories. Summer Adventures offers a wide variety of activities and there is something for everyone! We hope that your child will join us for an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, fun, and adventure Whether it’s making new friends, trying new activities, or doing something they already love, Summer Adventures promises to create cherished memories that will last a lifetime!

Assistant Director: Maria Linnehan
Maria is excited to return for her 14th summer at BSA and 4th season as Assistan Director Maria has been a second grade teacher for 6 years In her free time, Maria enjoys running, hiking, spending time at th beach, and going on road trips She is looking forward to warmer weather and another fantastic summer at BSA

Director: Ben Richter
Ben is excited to begin his 18th season at Summer Adventures, marking his first year as the program director During the school year, Ben is a third grade teacher Outside of work, Ben enjoys spending time with his dog on walks, cooking, and taking on various house projects. He is thrilled to step into this new role and looks forward to another exciting summer ahead

Administrative Coordinator Kelsie Butler
Kelsie Butler is entering her 8th year at Summer Adventures and her 4th year as Administrative Assistant She is a 5th-grade teacher with a passion for sports, photography, drawing, running, and baking. Kelsie is excited for another wonderful summer filled with new experiences and opportunities


Where is Summer Adventures Located?

Summer Adventures is based at Bedford High School (BHS) Extensive BHS facilities include three gymnasiums, two cafeterias and great outdoor space Proximity to the playground, tennis courts, library, athletic fields, outdoor basketball courts and the Town Center Building further enhance the Summer Adventures program Adventures Away will be based at the John Glenn Middle School and will use that space & BHS between field trips. Springs Brook Park is also an integral part of the Summer Adventures experience.
Who are the Staff at Summer Adventures?
Staff consist of teachers, college and BHS students who are carefully selected, guided and supported Many counselors return year after year, making Summer Adventures a rich experience for the children

If your child needs a little extra support to participate in Summer Adventures, inclusion support may be available We realize that every situation is unique and we are happy to explore opportunities that may exist for inclusion Please let us know how we may support your child by completing the “Inclusion Questionnaire” on the Recreation website (bedfordrecreation.org). Refund Policy:
Notice must be given 10 business days’ prior to program start for refund. If the required notice is given refunds will be issued less 10% of the cost of the program.

Junior Adventures (Age 4 by 6/30/25Entering Kindergarten)
This program is designed for our youngest participants. Low staff to child ratios and a nurturing environment compliment a well-rounded schedule including art, nature, music, cooperative games & sports, imaginative play and water play (on site and one visit per week to the Springs Brook Park Spray Park). T-shirt included. One field trip per session will be held Offered in two week sessions

Summer Adventures (Entering Grade 1-4)
Designed for children to explore a variety of developmentally appropriate activities and to establish new friendships. There is daily excitement in this program that includes theme days, special visitors and events, cooperative games and sports, art, music/drama, one field trip per session, woodworking, science, archery and electives Swim lessons at Springs Brook Park for grades 1 - 4*. There is one off-site field trip per session T-shirt included *Please note: We may not be able to accommodate late registrations with swim lessons If not, children will have free swim during lesson time

Senior Adventures (Entering Grade 5)
Designed as a bridge between Summer Adventures and Adventures Away for children entering Grade 5
There is daily excitement in this program that includes theme days, special visitors and events, cooperative games and sports, art, music/drama, field trips, woodworking, science, archery and electives and more field trips! This program will meet at the Bedford High School site and take part in many of the exciting daily activities at Summer Adventures. They will also have more field trips each session, visits to Springs Brook Park

Adventures Away (Entering Grades 6-8)
This is a series of field trips (no overnights) based at Summer Adventures at Bedford High School Each day, there will be an offsite trip as well as time for activity at SA (games, sports, crafts) Destinations include places such as laser tag, minigolf, Canobie Lake Park, Water Country, Coco Key, Stone Zoo, Chunky’s, Southwick’s Zoo A detailed list of trips will be distributed prior to the start of each week Offered in one week sessions

Counselor In Training
(Must be entering Grade 8 or 9 in the Fall of 2025)

The CIT program is designed for those individuals who are interested in learning about recreation, leadership and working with children The CIT’s will assist with day to day set up, clean up and maintenance They will also assist counselors, working hands on with Summer Adventures activities and participants. CITs will receive direction and supervision from Summer Adventures Directors Completion of this program does not guarantee future employment for any recreation program
CIT applicants must submit a CIT application and attend an interview Those selected will be required to attend orientation the week of June 23 (exact days/times TBD).
CIT Fee: $250/Session 2 & 3, $225 for session 1 (Sessions correspond to Summer Adventures sessions; students may apply for one, two or all three sessions)

Early Bird & Extended Day Care


Early Bird consists of supervised quiet games in the cafeteria or active games in the gym and runs 8:00 a m -9:00 a m
Extended Day consists of trips to Springs Brook Park* and activities at BHS and runs from SA dismissal until 6:00 p.m. Pickup is 5:00-6:00 p m at the town playground on Mudge Way (indoors at BHS if rainy) Extended Day is for Grades 1+ only.
Additional coverage options are available at the Bedford Recreation Kids’ Club. Extended Day is available to those in Grades 1 5. Please note that Extended Day will not be held August 8, the last day of the program
*Children engaging in free swim at Extended Day will be tested for swim ability according to Christian’s Law Children will be tested by Recreation swim staff and non-swimmers and at risk swimmers will be required to stay in a designated area in water that is no deeper than two feet. For all non-swimmers and at risk swimmers, Coast Guard approved life vests will be fit by trained staff and available if requested by child or parent Christian’s Law information: https://www mass gov/info-details/christians-law
