La legendaria banda de heavy metal Kiss (nunca he entendido que sean definidos como heavy metal) celebrará sus cuarenta años de formación con una gira internacional que acontecerá en España este verano, concretamente el 21 de junio en Barcelona y el 22 en Madrid. Tommy Thayer a la guitarra y Eric Singer a la batería. Los únicos miembros originales del grupo que aun quedan Paul Stanley y Gene Simmons, el de la supuesta lengua bovina, más conocidos como Starchild y The Demon, seudónimos que adquirieron por la forma que siempre han tenido de maquillarse la cara, concepto del que

son creadores y que fue muy criticado en la época, ya que cimentó las bases del ahora bien implantado merchandising figurativo, o comprarte un montón de porquerías para ir vestido/ peinado/ maquillado igual que tu ídolo. Hay que decir que los Kiss son la banda que más discos que oro ha conseguido en Estados Unidos, 28 en total. La formación actual tiene dos álbumes de estudio, Sonic boom (2009) y Monster (2012), su último álbum en el mercado hasta la fecha y el vigésimo trabajo de estudio de su carrera discográfica, que nació allá por el 74.

Resurgiendo de las sombras para reclamar su puesto en el mundo de la Electrónica, Ellie ya es un nombre conocido en la escena

de clubs de Barcelona y ha pasado por algunas de las mejores cabinas de la ciudad Condal, entre ellas La Terrrazza, City Hall, Bloc, Macarena Mar y cuenta con una lista de referencias en el mercado. Armada con un legado musical, una pura pasión por la música y una visión de la industria musical como una hermandad.

Now she re-emerges from the shadows to reclaim her grounds in the World of Electronic music. A familiar face in Barcelona’s nightlife, Ellie has got a long list of clubs like La Terrrazza, City Hall, Bloc, Macarena Mar, plus a collection of releases under her belt. Armed with a music legacy, a sheer passion for music, and a view of the music Industry as a brotherhood. bcn events: Hi Ellie, thanks fo making some time to accomodate us, we appreciate it. Ellie: I must thank you for inviting me, it is a real pleasure to be here with you. bcn: You have quite and interesting background, please tell us a little about it. E: it begun growing up in Rio de Janeiro and following my dad around on his radio gigs and being

around music and vinyls for as long as I can remember. My dad was one of the people who alongside a bunch of other pioneers, introduced the sounds of Funk and Soul into Rio. They used to travel to New York in early 70’s to buy 7inch singles of this amazing new sound that was emerging from the black community and bringing them back to local clubs in Rio. But I did not start deejaying myself untill my mid 20’s..In 1994, I got a taste of record spin myself and never looked back. bcn: I have read you biography and you mention Finland and London as your previous homes. Tell us how did Finland and London came into the picture and have they affected you musically? E: I was just turning 14 when my family moved to Finland. It was not untill much later, when I was 2324 that I moved to Helsinki and discovered the ilegal raves and a

very small Electronic scene. It was the 90’s and the Acid House Era, all was new and forbiden, at least in Finland. We used to rave in abandoned cable factories and building basements with no air-con, just a strobe light and sweat dripping from the ceiling, no alcohol either, we drank water from the tap and popped pills... in the late 90’s I moved to London, with a 50pounds in my pocket and only a few of my records. Two of these records were Josh Wink, High State of Conciousness and Planet Rock by Africa Bambaatta..I did most of the West End Clubs, the legendary Turnmills and club nights like The End, Trade & The Gallery & Melt had a big influence on me as a person and shaped me to be who I am today. bcn: Times surely have changed. Electronic music have become one of the biggest phenomemas of this century. How do you see

bcn events: Hola Ellie, gracias por hacernos un hueco, es genial tenerte con nosotros Ellie: Gracias a vosotros, es un placer estar aquí bcn: Tienes una trayectoria bastante interesante, háblanos un poco de ello E: Todo empezó de niña en Río de Janeiro acompañando a mi padre en sus shows de radio y de estar alrededor de la música y los vinilos desde que puedo recordar. Mi padre fue una de las personas que junto a un montón de otros djs pioneros, introdujeron los sonidos Funk y Soul en Río. Solían viajar a Nueva York a principios de los 70 para comprar vinilos 7inch de este nuevo sonido increíble que estaba emergiendo de la comunidad negra y traerlos de vuelta a los clubes locales en Río. Pero yo no empecé a pinchar hasta que tenia mis 20 años..En 1994, probé el tacto de los giradiscos y no he vuelto a mirar atrás. bcn: He leído tu biografía y mencionas a Finlandia y Londres. Como entraron Finlandia y Londres en tu vida y que como estos dos países

But we still need to educate the new generation on the values. Lately I feel like Electronic music has been treated like harlot. Nobody wants to know it’s name, they just want to use it and abuse it with no questions asked, it is almost ike musical rape. When I started nobody taught you how to spin, you had to fend for yourself. Now, they download the top 100 of Music On, plug in and feel like they are Marco Carola, and things are not really like this.The digital 26

han influenciado tu música? E: Justo cumplía los 14 cuando mi madre se volvió a casar con un un Finés y desde Rio nos trasladamos a una pequeña ciudad a 30 min. de la frontera con Rusia. A mis 20, me mudé a Helsinki y descubrí las raves ilegales y una escena muy pequeña. Eran los 90 y la era Acid House, todo era muy nuevo y prohibido, por lo menos en Finlandia. Solíamos hacer raves en fabricas abandonadas y sótanos de edificios sin aire acondicionado, solo una luz strobe, el sudor goteaba desde el techo. Bebíamos agua del grifo y un par de pastillas. A mediados de los 90 me mudé a Londres con tan solo 50 libras en el bolsillo y algunos de mis vinilos, dos de ellos, High State of Conciousness de Josh Wink y Planet Rock de Afrika Bambaatta. Pasé por la mayoría de los clubs de la West End de Londres y los legendarios Turnmills y The End. Noches como Trade y The Gallery & Melt han tenido una gran influencia en mi y me han moldeado como persona. bcn: Si, los tiempos si que han cambiado y la

E: I arrived in Barcelona in 2001, I came over from London and was taken under the wings of one of the super clubs back then, Republica which located under

Francia train Station.. The unfortunately has given away it space to the fast train AVE and a big part of Barcelona’s club history was lost forever. There were very few female djs back then, there was Tania Vulcano in Discoteque, Monika X, Rachel, Fernanda Diaz in the old Felini.By 2007 I had to put my career aside to deal with a life threatening health issue. I was finally able to return sometime around late 2012, under my real name. Sometimes life will strip you off everything that you have ever known and puts you back where it all started so that you have rebuild and reborn. That for me was inspiring.

Electrónica ha se vuelto uno de los fenómenos musicales mas importantes del siglo. Como ves esta repentina masificación y como ha afectado a los músicos en general? E: Positivo si, en algunos aspectos. La Electrónica debe ser global. Pero últimamente la música de club se trata como una meretriz, a quien nadie le importa su nombre, tan solo quiere usar y abusar de ella sin consecuencias y sin hacer preguntas es casi como una violación en términos musicales. La Electrónica tiene un legado y una historia y la gente debería tomarse el tiempo de saber mas de ello, en mi época nadie te enseñaba a pinchar, tenías que valerte por ti mismo. Hoy, te bajas el top cien de Music On, llegas, enchufas y te crees Marco Carola.. Las cosas no son así. La era digital ha cambiado el curso de la historia de una forma inconcebible. Y esto es muy triste bcn: Has pinchado en una larga lista de clubs por el mundo, pero tienes que tener un favorito. E: Aquí en Barcelona mis 2 clubs favoritos son La Terrrazza, el “feeling” que te transmite esta sala es algo descomunal. La tengo allí arriba en mi lista de mejores salas del mundo, empezando por la gente que la lleva, son personas verdaderamente increíbles, no me sorprende que lleven ya 20 años con su legado. El próximo en la lista es el Sankeys Ibiza, fue una sensación increíble pinchar allí en Noche Vieja junto a Steve Lawler y mis compañeros del sello. Un nombre internacional para mi es el Zouk de Singapura. Allí las drogas están penalizadas con penas de muerte, así que la gente bebe mucho. En vez de una pista dedicada las 6

Меня зовут Катерина я стилист-имиджмейкер живу в Барселоне уже около двух лет и делюсь здесь историей своего появления и жизни в этом городе и этой замечательной стране. Путешествовали мы с подругой, и не будучи к чему-либо привязанными мы решили проехаться дальше, так мы попали в Жирону уютную, теплую и немного загадочную, месные жители которой нам очень запомнились своей отзывчивостью, так двигаясь от города к городу мы добрались до Тосса де Мар (Tossa de Mar) - это небольшой, но очень красивый городок, расположенный в 12 км севернее от Ллорет де Мар. El viaje fue muy divertido ya que mi amiga tiene miedo de todo y sospecha de todos y por esto estaba grabando al pobre conductor durante todo el viaje. Pero era un hombre muy encantador y no le daba mucha importancia a este detalle. Cuando supo que era nuestra primera vez en España, en seguida decidió enseñarnos a donde hemos venido. Nos hemos parado en un pequeño pueblo donde comimos mas que a gusto, tomamos un vino delicioso y en general pudimos comprobar como era el verdadero almuerzo al 36

Después de degustar todo tipo de licores en el mercadillo local, hemos acordado que todavía era necesario ir a registrarnos en el hotel. Fuimos en coche por la carretera de la costa, observando el paisaje local y respirando el aire del mar. El MAR- hay tanto en esta palabra!Ya de noche llegamos al

La gran sorpresa para mi, fue la enorme cantidad de gente de habla rusa que hemos encontrado en Salou. Esto deja su huella en forma de menús y carteles de todos los restaurantes en ruso e incluso en algunos sitios los platos típicos de Rusia, y por supuesto, cuando estas a punto de marcharte, se oye “Spasibo” en todos los sitios. En definitiva, Salou es una de las ciudades con mas diversión, animación, buenas discotecas u pubs y en general una completísima vida nocturna! Todavía me escapo para pasar algún fin de semana ahí, es muy agradable estar ahí un domingo en la playa con los amigos y después compartir alguna botella de buen vino. Por supuesto el mar Mediterráneo, en las costas del cual están cómodamente situadas los pueblos turísticos de España, deja su huella en los residentes locales.

La ciudad me causó una doble impresión, por una parte teníamos el centro que es hermoso, el paisaje, el mar, las rocas, todo esto le da su encanto, pero por otra parte, era la temporada alta y la ciudad estaba muy llena de turistas jóvenes, yo diría un ambiente demasiado joven para nosotras, asi que tuvimos que buscar lugares mas tranquilos. Como viajamos solas, no estuvimos atadas a nada ni a nadie, así que hemos decidido ir un poco más lejos y legamos a Girona, una ciudad muy acogedora, cálida y un tanto misteriosa, cuyos habitantes los hemos recordado como la gente encantadora. Asi, moviéndonos de ciudad en ciudad, llegamos a Tossa de Mar, una pequeña, pero hermosa ciudad cituada a 12 km al norte de Lloret del Mar. Dicen, que es l auténtica perla de Cota Brava, gracias a la belleza de su paisaje natural. Tossa de Mar cuenta con más de mil años de historia que se remonta hasta los tiempos que esta tierra estaba habitada por Iberos y Romanos. Un atributo esencial, es la comida de los domingos, que suele empezar a las 2 y terminar sobre las 5 de la tarde. Es imposible de no enamorarse de la costumbre española de disfrutar de una buena comida, el vino, el café y por supuesto todo ello acompañado de una charla interminable. Con la llegada del buen tiempo también llegan esos hábitos y actividades dignas del mediterráneo, y como no puede ser de otra forma, adaptamos también la moda. El otro día escuché una entrevista de Dyango en la radio y se quejaba exactamente de lo mismo: artistas como él que triunfan en Latinoamérica o Estados Unidos, y aquí no se entera nadie, simplemente porque no se le da la importancia que tiene. De todas formas, mi historia creo que fue otra. Como dj pinchaba música de artistas ingleses y americanos, y cuando me puse a producir, evidentemente, ése fue el sonido que me gustaba hacer, y se fijaron en mi fuera y me fui. bcn: Por suerte ahora cambia, ¿ Te sientes más arropado por el público y el sector? D: El sector siempre me trató muy bien, en mi país soy ese tipo de artista más conocido en la industria que por el público. Las nuevas generaciones tienen una muy buena fuente de información en Internet, ven los videos de sus artistas favoritos haciendo shows en Ultra y Tomorrowland, y escuchan sus radio shows y podcasts, y ahí están nuestras canciones y por lo tanto nos conocen. Y lo mejor es que se sienten orgullosos de lo que hacemos, y eso es muy grande. Me llegan tweets muy bonitos desde casa. bcn: Háblanos de la Winter Music Conference, cómo fue, nos consta que a ti muy bien D: La conferencia es siempre una gran locura, muchos shows, meetings, nervios, y muchas fiestas, alguna que otra resaca… Es un gran momento del año donde nos reunimos con toda la industria al completo. Tengo mi propia fiesta desde hace 3 años, pero pincho en otras más desde mi primera vez en 2009. ¡Tarde mucho en venir! Miami es casa para mi desde ese mismo 2009 que me dieron la residencia en Space y me trataron como a uno más de la casa. Muchos de mis mejores amigos actuales viven en Miami, es un lugar que visito 5 ó 6 veces al año, y posiblemente de los pocos lugares donde me paran por la calle para hacernos fotos. Venir para la conferencia es sólo una excusa más para pasar

10 días en el paraíso de los djs para muchos, y un momento de hacer todos los negocios posibles para otros, o las dos cosas. Es fantástico. bcn: ¿ Y que nos dices sobre tu sello? D: Cerré mi sello The Mansion Recordings en 2012 después de una muy buena etapa, pero ya finalizada para mí. Desde entonces, he tenido una necesidad muy grande de tener sello propio, pero esta vez quería hacerlo solo, sin asociarme con una multi. Hago una gran cantidad de música que no puedo firmar con nadie más que no sea conmigo mismo, porque es demasiado personal. Siempre estuve a medio camino entre el underground y la escena comercial, pero en los últimos años se separaron tanto que no hay una escena intermedia, es blanco o negro, y somos muchos los que estamos entre el House y el Techno, o el Progressive. Quiero volver al formato de track de club sin seguir ningún tipo de tendencia más que música hecha para dj’s y para hoy, que está faltando mucho últimamente. bcn: Tu último tema con Abel Ramos – repitiendo equipo y experiencia después de “Geatting Heavy” D: ‘Get Back’ junto a Chris Reeder está llamado a romper en las pistas. Para Get Back seguimos el mismo proceso. Abel me mando unas pistas que hizo él, y yo lo tome desde ahí. Y, entonces, buscamos un cantante nuevo en Los Ángeles para darle un aire fresco. Todo en general tenía que sonar como un sucesor de Getting Heavy, pero en una nueva forma, y eso es lo que es... Y el sonido también nos gusta más. La otra vez fue una búsqueda, la parte de investigación. Entonces el track siempre suena un poco más rudo en algún aspecto, el hijo siempre viene más pulido. Estoy súper contento del resultado. Chris Reeder nos mandó un topline que era perfecto para nuestra instrumental... Fue bastante rodado, la verdad.

The other day I heard a radio interview where Dyango complained exactly the about the same issue: artists like him have succeed in Latin America or the United States, and here nobody knows about it, simply because it is not given the importance that it deserves. Anyway, I think that

my case was a different story. As a dj I’ve always played music made by British and American artists, and when I started producing, obviously, that was the sound that I liked to do, and that’s what made people notice me abroad and got me to play internationally. bcn: Luckily there have been some changes, do you feel more embraced by your followers and by the industry? D: The industry always treated me well, in my country I am the kind of artist who is better known by the industry then by the public. The new generations have a very good source of information on Internet, they watch videos of their favorite artists doing shows in Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland, and listen to their Radio shows and podcasts where our songs are and therefore get to know us. And the best part is that they are proud of what we do, and that’s great. I get very nice tweets from home. bcn: Tell us about the Winter Music Conference, how was it? We’ve heard that it went really well for you? D: The conference is always mad-

ness, many shows, meetings, nerves, a lot of parties and the occasional hangover... It’s a great time of year where we meet up with the whole industry as a whole. I have my own night there already for 3 years, but I have been playing for other parties since 2009. It took a long time to come! Miami is home to me since this same 2009 when I got the residency at Space and treated as part of the crew. Many of my best friends live in Miami, it is a place I visited 5 or 6 times a year, and possibly of the few places where I stop somewhere on the road to make some photos. To come to the conference is just one more excuse to spend 10 days in Dj paradise for some, and a moment to make all possible business connections for others, or both. It’s just fantastic. bcn: And what about your label? D: I closed my The Mansion Recordings label in 2012 after a very good period, but that was already finished for me. D: Me siento muy agradecido por verme aquí, una gira de 2 meses y medio en un mismo país significa mucho, en principio iba a ser un mes y han ido saliendo fechas. Entre medio, he hecho Panamá, Miami, Brasil y Venezuela, y aún me queda Suecia, China y Egipto, y esto es hasta junio. La gira es el momentazo de nuestras vidas. bcn: Supongo que te lo han preguntado mil veces pero ¿qué diferencias ves entre la escena musical en Los Ángeles y Barcelona? D: Los Ángeles tiene una escena como tal desde hace muy poco. Cuando vine por primera vez en el 2000, solo había 3 clubs: Avalon y otros dos de Deep House. La escena Trance era

muy fuerte aquí y luego la escena House más underground, pero mayoritariamente era Hip Hop lo que dominaba el territorio, hasta 2010 que empezaron a abrir otros clubs y ahora hay una buena escena en LA. En cambio, en Barcelona tenemos una tradición de clubbing que se remonta a los principios de todo. Hemos pasado por muchos ciclos, y creo que todos los géneros posibles porque siempre hay un promotor que apuesta por algo, y muchas salas. Además tenemos el Sonar... Siempre hemos sido una ciudad avanzada musicalmente. bcn: ¿Cuándo te veremos por aquí cerquita? D: No lo sé, sinceramente. Pasaré el verano en Barcelona hasta septiembre, que volvemos a LA, pero de momento no tengo ningún show programado, aunque me encantaría hacer algo.

Donde sin duda, demostró su enorme pasión y dedicación por la música electrónica, promoviendo y fomentando la cultura techno. En el 2010 y tras años de observar y aprender de los múltiples artistas que pasaron por la cabina de su club y de otros muchos mas templos, decide dar rienda suelta a su pasión musical y tomar los mandos de la mesa de mezclas. Destaca claramente por su buen gusto y su excepcional criterio musical a la hora de elegir a los artistas que componen sus sets, en donde claramente marca un estilo de elegancia muy propio e inconfundible digno de admirar. Estoy segura de que forma parte de mi cabeza,cuerpo y alma bcn: Cuales son tus influencias mas destacadas P:Mi abanico de influencias es muy extenso, pero cabe destacar de la tierra donde procedo donde la oscuridad brilla por su presencia y artistas como reeko, exium, oscar mulero…. Nos deleitaban con su arte cada fin de semana en mi tierra, donde nos hacían descubrir nuevos sonidos, enseñandonos a respetar sus cualidades artísticas y formandonos en un tipo de electrónica de mucha calidad y clase, en la que había un trabajo muy grande detrás. Me siento muy afortunada por haber tenido la oportunidad de vivir esta gran época en la que estaba creciendo como persona buscando mi lugar en este mundo.

P: He pasado una larga época antes de llegar a barcelona en el país vasco, donde mi creatividad se elevo gracias a la ayuda de mucha gente de esta tierra que me han ayudado, apoyado y enseñado muchísimas cosas, de este tiempo en euskadi nació “persefone productions”, que es el nombre con el que creo mi propia música, en el que estoy trabajando. También he formado un duo con “oxid3”, que es un dj con una trayectoria de mas de 15 años natural de eibar (guipuzcoa) gran artista, excelente amigo de donde nace “dark nexus” ( pele session metes oxid3 ) una unión musical difícil de explicar si no se escucha, sensaciones musicales únicas que nos han unido y esperemos que sea hasta la eternidad de nuestra oscuridad, con el tengo muchas

cosas en mente a parte de las que ya hemos echo que son imparables para nosotros. bcn: Llegados a este punto cuentanos un poco lo que tienes entre manos para ofrecer a barcelona? P: Bueno pues he empezado a organizar mis propias fiestas llamadas “reverse psycology” donde pongo todo mi corazón, energía e ilusión, en las que podéis escuchar música techno de principio a fin, poco a poco espero seguir creciendo para poder luchar por la cultura de club que los nostálgicos llevamos en nuestras almas, espero que la calidad de muchos artistas pueda ser vista en mis eventos. Tras ser un éxito en Broadway y Londres, el musical “Priscilla, Reina del desierto” llega al Teatro Alcalá de Madrid cargado de humor y música. Y componiendo la banda sonora, hoy nos encontramos con la magnífica artista Amynata Sow, cantante de 23 años procedente de Jaén que se ha hecho un hueco en el mundo de los musicales. Ella es también conocida por su aparición en la última edición del programa “La Voz” de Telecinco, dónde fue elegida por la cantante “Malú” para representar a su equipo. Hoy, nos cuenta sobre su carrera artística y nos desvela algunos de los misterios que tiene vivir entre platós y bambalinas. bcn events: Cuéntanos, habías pensado dedicarte al teatro cuando empezaste a cantar? Amynata Sow: Empecé desde muy pequeñita en la música, con 16 años me regalaron mi pri-

A: Procuro estar lo más tranquila posible (nunca lo consigo) y trato de ser yo misma. Es la única manera en la que no fallo. La ultima experiencia que tuve fue coger una maleta e irme a Londres a audicionar para Dreamgirls. He de decir que sin toda la experiencia anterior, no habría tenido el valor de lanzarme así. Priscilla y La Voz me han dado mucho, pero sobretodo confianza en mí misma.

bcn: De qué va el musical? Que mensaje crees que intenta dar al público? A: El musical va de tres Drags Queens que deciden cruzar el desierto de Australia para que una de ellas, Tick (Jaime Zatarain) conozca a su hijo de seis años. En ese viaje les pasa de todo, conocen a muchos personajes (muy divertidos) y lo más importante, se descubren a ellas mismas. Transmiten un mensaje cargado de valor, respeto y amor hacia la identidad de uno mismo. Es precioso. bcn: Como es tu día a día? Hay competitividad entre compañeros? A: Mi día a día es un no parar (la verdad) pero es una rutina a la que te acostumbras tarde o temprano. Trabajas cuando los demás salen y se divierten, trabajas cuando los demás duermen...jajaja es un poco locura. Pero es lo que me apasiona, así que no me puedo quejar. Competitividad? Yo diria que es muy distinto el procedimiento de casting a cuando ya entras a formar parte de una compañía. Acaba convirtiéndose en una familia y yo, personalmente no compito con mi familia. bcn: En el musical cantas durante todo el espectáculo sostenida de un arnés en el aire, como lo llevas? La voz aguanta tantos días de trabajo? A: Bueno, al final le coges el truco pero, al fin y al

how did you live the process? A: I try to be as calm as possible (never can do it) and I try to be myself. It is the only way in which I did not fail. The last experience I had was to pack a suitcase and go to London to audition for Dreamgirls. I must say that without any previous experience, I would not have had the courage to do it. Priscilla and the Voice have given me a lot, but above all confidence in myself.

cabo es un músculo. Un músculo que si entrenas con buena técnica, se endurece y acaba estando cómodo en cualquier situación. Una cosa tengo clara, después de cantar a esa altura y esos temas, puedo cantar haciendo el pino (risas). bcn: Dinos una anécdota que te haya pasado en el musical? A: Anécdota... pues muchísimas. Son tantas funciones que una pierde la cuenta...pero si hay un momento que no se me olvidará nunca. En una de las escenas llevo un tocado a modo de gorro, pues justo ese día unos de mis amigos estaba viendo función en primera fila. En uno de los momentos de esa escena, el gorro resbalo de mi cabeza y me quedé completamente calva (con la toga) en el escenario. Uno de mis compañeros lo cogió del suelo y disimuladamente me lo volví a colocar. Pero no, nunca olvidaré ese día. bcn: Vendréis a Barcelona? Cuales son tus planes de futuro? A: Seguramente si, en gira. Mis planes de futuro? Bueno, en esta profesión no se puede hablar mucho de futuro, quizás un futuro próximo... por ahora estoy bien donde estoy, me gusta mi trabajo y me siento realizada. De aquí a un año o dos, el cosmos dirá donde estará mi sitio. Por ahora, me quedo en Priscilla.

bcn: What is the musical about? What message does it try to give the public? A: The musical is about three Drags Queens who decide to cross the desert of Australia so that one of them, Tick (Jaime Zatarain) can meet her six year old son. Everything happen on that trip, they meet many characters (very funny ones) and most importantly, they discover themselves. It transmit
