Medical Equipment
Philanthropic support leverages our commitment to pair world-class medical experts with often life-changing equipment to best serve the needs of our community. Medical advancements are rapid and ever-evolving, and Baptist Health donors ensure that we keep pace with cuttingedge equipment and technology.
Telemedicine carts are state-of-theart solutions that allow clinicians to communicate effectively via remote access for timely treatment of stroke patients across Baptist Health. Support for the technology behind Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute’s stroke program helps reduce time to treatment, regardless of the patient’s geographic location. In 2022, 10 American Well telemedicine carts were purchased for the Institute with philanthropic dollars.
Each year, more than 4,000 patients receive physical therapy at Baptist Health Mariners Hospital. Through the generosity of our donors, the hospital was able to purchase a NuStep Cross Trainer, which provides a low-impact workout for users at any fitness level or functional ability. The equipment helps patients reduce pain, increase range of motion and establish proper alignment.
In 2022, donor support helped Baptist Health Bethesda Hospital purchase cooling blankets for its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Cooling therapy, also known as therapeutic hypothermia, is a treatment for babies born with asphyxia — a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. A cooling blanket is used to lower the baby’s body temperature to 92.3°F, reducing the likelihood and severity of long-term impairment.
With the past surge of the COVID-19 Delta variant, clinicians in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Baptist Health Baptist Hospital needed a new GlideScope — a vital tool used during patient intubation. Philanthropic dollars made it possible for the ICU to purchase this state-of-the-art equipment to help secure patients’ airways and save lives.
Why I Give
At Baptist Health Doctors Hospital, philanthropy purchased a new Philips ultrasound machine for the noninvasive vascular lab to enhance imaging for the physicians, leading to better clinical decisions and the ability to accommodate more outpatient vascular procedures.
At Baptist Health Homestead Hospital, philanthropy supported the purchase a lifesaving LUCAS 3 chest compressor, a helpful tool delivering consistent and high-quality chest compressions during CPR.
