In this issue of Healthcare Matters, we are pleased to honour Easystart Batteries with our Commitment to Excellence Award
Easystart Batteries was established in 1996 by Trevor Horner with a mission to provide customers with, an easy start, for any battery-powered application. Initially, the company concentrated on automotive batteries, but over the past 30 years, Easystart has expanded to serve up to 14 different markets through its two original equipment battery brands, Monbat and Haze.
“Monbat specialises in batteries for cars, commercial vehicles, leisure activities, lawn care, and access equipment, while Haze batteries are designed for deep-cycle applications, electric vehicles, solar energy, and standby telecom & UPS systems,” stated Katie Brugha, Sales Manager.
For 2025, one sector Easystart is looking to grow in is Mobility. Haze have continued success within the market offering a
complete range. For this sector, Haze has three battery technologies for electric vehicles used for mobility. These include: AGM (HZB), AGM-EX (HZB-EX), and GEL (HZY).
“There are many misconceptions about batteries that can confuse, but we offer a battery range tailored for every user, ultimately enhancing the experience for end users and reducing typical problems that occur with batteries.”
“Haze offers three battery ranges tailored for mobility needs because everyone’s needs are different. Our standard AGM batteries, also referred to as the classic collection, provide a fantastic all-around option for stairlifts and scooters. The Classic AGM collection using absorbent glass matt technology. This unique design allows the energy to be stored in a suspended state, providing a stable and consistent cycle. It also protects the plates, leading to a longer lifespan, increased usage, and resistance to vibrations, all while being maintenance-free. For those using a scooter seasonally, the HAZE AGM is the ideal battery.”
“Next, our true gel range, known as the premium range, delivers consistent and reliable power for daily users, an essential feature in the powerchair market. A GEL battery is more suitable for individuals who rely on their scooter or chair and use it more than three times a week. This is
Cillian Brugha, Managing Director, Easystart Batteries
because it can be used for longer before it needs a recharge, this is known a deep discharge or increased depth of discharge. It has a higher cycle life too which means it lasts much longer than an AGM, typically double. If the scooter will be used for a significant part of the day and recharged overnight, the GEL battery allows for optimal cycling. Given the opportunity to operate at its full potential, this battery will outlast an AGM battery.”
“Our third range, unique to Haze, is the AGM EX, the superior range. A common challenge in the industry has been that the range of scooters is often restricted by the physical size of the battery compartment. TA DAAAA, the Superior range addresses this issue with six batteries designed for increased range and amp-hour (AH) capacity. This is accomplished by utilising the empty space in the battery box by using more lead, which enhances the conductive area. More battery inside, means more scootering outside.”
“Therefore, for the first time, you can upgrade your battery without needing to increase the physical size of the scooter. These batteries provide greater amp-hour capacity, allowing for extended range, making them ideal for customers who frequently navigate rough terrain or carry additional weight,” stated Katie.
Easystart emphasises quality, consistency, and exceptional service by utilising its OE brands. The EX batteries have demonstrated remarkable success and are now installed by scooter manufacturers as original equipment products. Each battery has undergone a rigorous testing process before being sold as an OE product. This means that the Haze brand is now widely used across Europe.
Since 1996, Easystart has aimed to revolutionise the solar industry as a leading UK battery wholesaler. Its team of innovative experts has been working hard to develop a new home energy solar panel, featuring batteries which are fully recyclable. This innovative product is set to alter the course of the sector, as the company looks to grow further into the solar and renewable energy storage sector too.
Prioritising customer service above all else, we asked Katie what makes Easystart so special.
“We take pride in being a family-owned and operated business, which enables us to make swift decisions that best meet our customers' needs. Located in Corby, Northampton, we operate three warehouses and have established ourselves as one of the largest stockholding companies in the UK. We provide free van delivery within a 100-mile radius of Corby, along with a dedicated sales representative and an in-house sales and technical team. This personal touch allows us to build strong relationships, as many of our customers have been with us for 25 years.”
“Our expertise lies in developing a product that truly delivers as well as our customer being able to sell the product with knowledge. Easystart also provides comprehensive staff training, charging advice, point-of-sale materials, and technical documents to help with this.”
We asked Katie, how she felt receiving our Commitment to Excellence award recognition.
“In February 2020, Cillian Brugha succeeded Trevor Horner as Managing Director, stepping into a challenging role as the company faced the upcoming Covid years. Since overcoming these challenges, we consistently strive to support our current customers while also enhancing our brand awareness.”
“The Commitment to Excellence Award holds significant importance as it reflects our daily aspirations within the team. We supply hundreds of independent businesses like ourselves and we share in both the successes and struggles of our customers, always striving for consistency while delivering exceptional services.”
“Whether it’s executing a pre-8am delivery, drop-shipping packages on behalf of a client, training new team members, supplying dummy batteries for events, or directly advising end users on charging, we are dedicated to going the extra mile because it is our business.”
“Batteries are not typically an impulse buy, and it's challenging to make a black box appealing. We can’t make it pretty and we can’t make it glamorous. But, like your mother always said ‘it’s not what’s on the outside but the inside that counts!”

The rising costs of healthcare, combined with increasing patient numbers, pose significant challenges for UK healthcare facilities. Balancing financial constraints while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and infrastructure durability is a growing concern. Facilities management teams are under pressure to keep hospitals, clinics, and mental health units presentable, hygienic, and cost-efficient, all while ensuring compliance with infection control policies.
Addressing wear and tear in healthcare environments
Healthcare facilities experience relentless wear and tear due to constant foot traffic and the movement of medical equipment. Corridors, waiting areas, and patient rooms endure daily impacts from wheelchairs, beds, and trolleys, which can damage walls and doors over time.
Intastop offers robust solutions designed to prolong the lifespan of healthcare environments, ensuring they remain fit for purpose. By investing in protective products, facilities managers can achieve substantial long-term savings, reducing maintenance costs and allowing budgets to be reallocated to essential services. Research by Intastop, indicates that hospitals could save over £32,400 per year by protecting vulnerable door faces and edges alone,
with additional savings on wall repairs and maintenance.
Dual benefits of wall protection Walls, particularly in high-traffic areas, are susceptible to scuffs, stains, and bacterial build-up. Protecting these surfaces with durable, easy-to-clean materials is essential for both aesthetic upkeep and infection prevention. In fact, wall protection products can greatly support the practice of Healing through Design.
Intastop’s wall protection solutions can also incorporate images or scenes, into spaces without compromising on the functionality of the area. Products like Inpro IPC Aspex allow for high-resolution image reproduction, enabling the integration of nature-inspired designs that provide an immersive experience.
These wall protection solutions, including antibacterial sheeting, offer a shield against damage and infection control, and with a Class O Fire Rating, it ensures the longevity of the infrastructure and will also safeguard against contamination and damage.
Enhancing safety through door protection Doors also play a vital role in healthcare settings, providing privacy, security, and safety. However, they are subjected to extremely high levels of wear and tear, which can rapidly lead to expensive repairs and
frequent repetitive maintenance. Using Intastop’s Fire Rated door protection along with its Continuous Geared Hinges, provides increased safety and alleviates alignment and stress distribution issues.
Furthermore, in mental health settings, door safety is paramount. Intastop provides a range of anti-ligature solutions, such as privacy vision panels, shrouded hinges, and alarmed door systems, to enhance patient safety while maintaining a secure and functional environment.
Whether for a new build or a retrofit project, choosing the right protection solutions ensures a secure, costefficient, and hygienic healthcare environment.
AAT is stepping up to help reduce the cost – financial, physical and mental of fall recovery, to Ambulance Trusts, crews and patients.
Data reveals ambulance services spend almost £700,000 PER DAY on falls1. They account for up to 20% of call-outs2
AAT’s Indeelift ‘people picker upper’ offers significant cost savings – up to almost 50% in some instances – over alternative fall recovery systems. Further, with the UK’s growing obesity statistics, it can lift up to 250kg (39st), reducing the need and cost of specialist equipment, and reducing the potential delay whilst bariatric facilities are despatched.
Based around a slim steel base on a frame with integrated rise assist handles, the battery-operated Indeelift simply slides underneath the person to raise them to sitting/standing height or lower them to floor level or any height inbetween.
There is no need to assemble the Indeelift first, meaning the speed with which it can be deployed – and a ‘long lie’ avoided is accelerated, helping the patient physically and mentally. Batterypowered and operated at the push of a button, Indeelift also completes the recovery process more quickly than other systems, whilst keeping the patient supported and safe. After use, it folds up for compact storage.
The Indeelift’s design coupled with integrated rise assist handles and safety belts provide in-built stability. That means safety is assured, even if balance is impaired. And it can be used singlehandedly, so further positively impacting on crew cost and time.
“It’s a ‘win’ whichever way you look at it,” says Peter Wingrave AAT Director. “Indeelift can almost halve the cost of fall recovery equipment. But it’s not just about the money. It quickly and safely achieves a positive
outcome for crews and patients with minimum effort and risk.”
Full details can be found on AAT’s website: https://www. aatgb.com/indeelift. The link also enables quick and easy booking of a free, no obligation assessment. As part of its offering, AAT also provides operator training, and onward technical and maintenance support.
Indeelift is the latest addition to AAT’s range of innovative and often unique handling and transfer equipment. Its brand-leading S-Max stairclimber is widely used to overcome the short or long-term barriers of steps and stairs, by ambulance services up and down the UK.

In healthcare, maintaining the highest standards of hygiene is not just a requirement – it’s a responsibility. Every surface, tool, and device plays a role in patient care, but high touch surfaces present unique challenges when it comes to maintaining hygiene. Bed rails, door handles, medical devices, and light switches are touched countless times daily by patients, healthcare professionals, and visitors, creating breeding grounds for bacteria and other micro-organisms.
While rigorous cleaning protocols certainly reduce contamination, high-touch surfaces remain a persistent issue. Even with frequent disinfection these surfaces are quickly recontaminated. Antimicrobial technology offers a science-backed addition for high-touch surfaces providing continuous product protection against bacterial growth, creating more hygienic environments.
High-touch surfaces: Bacteria hotspots High-touch surfaces are integral to day-today operations in healthcare environments but are also hotspots for the accumulation of bacteria. For example, a hospital bed rail touched multiple times a day can harbour bacteria, leading to its presence across multiple points in a facility. Even with diligent cleaning practices, it can be challenging to maintain surfaces in an optimal state of hygiene between cleaning cycles.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a significant challenge globally, with high-touch surfaces serving as potential areas where bacteria can be present. Enhancing hygiene practices on these surfaces through the integration of antimicrobial technologies such as Biomaster provides an opportunity to better support a facility’s overall cleanliness efforts.
What is Biomaster antimicrobial technology?
Biomaster utilises silver ions to actively inhibit microbial growth by incorporating antimicrobial properties directly into materials during the point of manufacture.
Silver has been recognised for its natural antimicrobial properties for centuries. Modern technology enhances these attributes, providing consistent, longlasting product protection. When bacteria come into contact with a treated surface, silver ions disrupt their essential functions, inhibiting processes such as cell division and energy production. This renders the bacteria inactive and reduces contamination on treated surfaces, complementing external cleaning protocols.
Unlike traditional cleaning products, which offer a temporary solution, Biomaster antimicrobial additive technology works 24/7. Once integrated into a material, the antimicrobial properties remain active for the product’s useful lifetime, making it ideal for high-touch surfaces in healthcare environments.
The benefits of Biomaster antimicrobial technology in healthcare environments Integrating Biomaster antimicrobial technology into high-touch surfaces provides numerous benefits within healthcare environments:
: Continuous product protection: Treated surfaces actively inhibit microbial levels between cleaning cycles, supporting
existing disinfection protocols.
: Efficient hygiene management: Cleaning staff can focus on other critical areas without compromising overall hygiene.
: Enhanced hygiene standards: Medical professionals benefit from surfaces designed to support cleaner environments, contributing to a more hygienic workspace.
: Patient reassurance: Treated surfaces showcase a facility’s dedication to maintaining high hygiene standards, providing patients and their families with increased confidence in the care environment.
Applications in healthcare settings
The versatility of Biomaster antimicrobial additive technology makes it suitable for a wide range of applications in healthcare, including, but not limited to:
: Bed rails and grab bars: Reducing bacterial growth on high-touch surfaces frequently used by patients and staff.
: Medical devices and computers: Ensuring diagnostic equipment, computers and other tools remain hygienic throughout their use.
: Door handles and light switches: Minimising opportunities for bacterial growth on high-traffic touchpoints used
by virtually everyone in a facility.
: Shared devices: Providing continuous product protection for often overlooked items such as TV remote controls, lift controls, and nurse call systems.
: Flooring and wall panelling: Adding an additional layer of hygiene to surfaces that are exposed to heavy traffic and frequent contact.
: Uniforms and textiles: Enhancing the hygiene of healthcare uniforms, curtains, and other soft furnishings that can harbour bacteria.
: Tableware and food service items:
Improving hygiene for reusable utensils, trays, and other items.
: Furniture: Improving the hygiene of chairs, desks, and bedside tables throughout the facility.
Biomaster: Paving the way for progress in healthcare hygiene
Antimicrobial technology represents a significant advancement in improving hygiene standards within healthcare
environments. By addressing bacterial presence on high-touch surfaces, it supports existing cleaning protocols and hygiene practices.
Looking ahead, the potential applications of antimicrobial additives are vast. From materials used in medical equipment to antimicrobial wall coatings, these innovations can elevate how healthcare facilities maintain hygiene. For now, the focus remains on high-touch surfaces – critical yet often challenging areas to manage effectively.
Healthcare facilities striving to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and care can incorporate Biomaster antimicrobial technology as part of their overall hygiene strategy. By integrating these additives into high-touch surfaces, facilities can showcase their commitment to providing hygienic environments and enhancing their operational standards.

The Care Show unites the entire care sector together for an action-packed two-day event under one roof. From October 9th-10th, 2024, at the NEC Birmingham, The Care Show once again stood as a beacon of innovation and excellence in the care sector.
The Care Show was also co-located with The Retirement Living Show, an event showcasing the latest challenges across the retirement living landscape. Hosting seminars and talks across 14 stages, attendees also enjoyed the Retirement Living Lounge sponsored by Whiteoaks, a place where they could meet and network with other professionals from different areas of the retirement living community.
Over the two days, the energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and had attendees truly entertained, particularly on the second day, when the show opened to the sound of vibrant steel drums. ‘As the delegates arrived at the exhibition hall, the lively music created a joyful atmosphere, setting the tone for an inspiring selection of discussions and discovery.’
There was a remarkable range of educational sessions, interactive features and meaningful activities that kept everyone who attended engaged and entertained. The Caring Conversations, the Care Innovation Hub were at the heart of the event. Throughout the show, attendees had the chance to
engage with regulators during the CQC’s ‘Meet the Inspector’ appointments. These sessions offered valuable guidance on regulatory changes and best practices. The Caring Conversations interviews, led by Five on a Bike, featured in-depth discussions with sector experts and care professionals, offering a rich exchange of knowledge and experience.
Innovation, sustainability and wellbeing were the true focus of the 2024 show, showcasing the latest cutting-edge technology and ideas currently shaping the future of care.
Show manager, Adam Camel, commented about the event:
“Care Show Birmingham was an all-around success this year, with stellar feedback from the visitors and exhibitors alike – I could not be prouder of the Care Show team for putting together another fantastic show. It’s wonderful seeing the entire care community come together year after year in such a joyous and celebratory fashion. I can’t wait to do it again next year!”

The importance of incorporating lived experience in training, in order for it to be embedded in the workplace, be it healthcare or social care, is absolutely crucial. This is something that we, at Care Business Associate Training (CBAT) are taking very seriously in order to ensure the people who our clients support are involved in the training of staff and carers.
We have developed Bildact certified Breakaway and Physical Intervention Training, which meets the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards which were created following the death of Olaseni Lewis in September 2010. Olaseni was a 23-year-old British man who died from Cerebral Hypoxia (lack of oxygen to the brain) after a prolonged physical restraint involving 11 Police Officers at Bethlem Royal Hospital in London, where he presented voluntarily following the onset of acute mental health issues. He was restrained for a period of 45 minutes face down and when his body went limp, it was thought he was faking it. Tragically, he never regained consciousness and died four days later. Serious failings were identified by a second coroner’s inquiry, and the jury found Olaseni died as ‘a result of excessive, disproportionate and unreasonable restraint and force.’ (Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards 2021 Version 3.1, pg 8 Ali & Conrad Lewis). It took Seni’s family over 8 years to get this ruling.
In order to ensure staff understand the serious nature of the use of physical intervention and restrictive practice, training provided by Bildact certified Training Providers is now a requirement. “The NHS welcomes the publication of the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards. These Standards have been written to focus on ensuring training promotes human rights and supports cultural change necessary to reduce reliance on restrictive practices (rather than purely focus on technical skills). Certification of compliance with these Standards will be a requirement in NHS commissioned and CQC regulated services from April 2020” (Professor Tim Kendall, National Clinical Director for Mental Health, NHS England 2019) (pg 10 RRN standards
same as above reference).
I was very privileged recently to meet a lady who is supported by one of our client’s, who agreed to let me interview her so we could share her story about how she felt being physically restrained. I was incredibly moved to hear this brave lady’s journey of how she was abused as a child, taken into care, further abused, had relationships where she was abused in the worst ways imaginable again and the impact this had on her mental health and dependence on drugs and alcohol as well as multiple attempts on her own life. She described to me how she felt being physically restrained due to her violent behaviour whilst she was being sectioned, which was triggering due to the abuse she had already endured and how in the last five years now she had moved to the setting where she currently resides, she has been able to reduce her medication considerably and has not been restrained
there once. When asked what was different where she lived now, she said she never used to be able to trust anyone and couldn’t talk to anyone as she was scared to talk to them about her feelings and what she went through. She now trusts the staff and they ‘talk it out.’ When asked what advice could she give staff who work with people who need support, she said ‘talking and listening’ and she was ‘learning how to deal’ with her past trauma. This incredible lady wanted her experiences to be heard and wanted me to put it in as many courses as possible to help people understand.
Training is one thing, listening to someone’s real and raw experiences really brings the training to life and makes it real for people, so they can go back into their workplaces with a bit more understanding.

Dance is an incredibly powerful tool used for boosting brain function, relieving anxiety and stress, and for enhancing emotional expression.
Dancing for Health is a Social Enterprise that uses the power of dancing to help vulnerable people live happier and healthier lives. With demonstrable benefits to both physical and mental wellbeing, its evidence based seated dance activity programme is specifically suitable for older or disabled people in health and social care settings.
Dancing for Health are winners of a 2023 Irish Healthcare Award. They are offering an attractive and proven corporate membership package to the care sector. Providing unlimited access to a unique range of content and learning resources for your care professional staff to keep their residents engaged
In the demanding environment of care homes, efficient medication management is paramount. Staff are often stretched, and the complexities of dispensing, tracking, and administering medications can be a significant source of stress and potential errors. Recognising these challenges, Medicine Drop operates as a dedicated hub pharmacy, solely focused on serving the unique needs of care homes across the nation. Unlike traditional pharmacies, they have no walk-in patients, allowing them to channel all their expertise and resources into providing a streamlined, specialised service for care facilities.
Medicine Drop understands that time is precious in a care home setting. Their comprehensive service is designed to save staff hours and reduce administrative burdens. By partnering with them, care homes can be assured of significant streamlining of medication-related workloads, improved communication channels, and the peace of mind that comes from working with experienced professionals.
Their service is built around several key advantages. Firstly, they offer a reliable six-day-a-week service, ensuring consistent access to medications. Crucially, they provide same-day delivery for all interim medications, addressing urgent needs promptly and preventing delays in patient care. Medication accuracy and safety are also prioritised. All monthly medications are blister packed free of charge and come with colour photo ID MAR charts that include body maps for enhanced clarity and safety during administration. A robotic dispensing system further ensures a high level of accuracy in every blister pack and medicine dispensed.
Beyond dispensing, Medicine Drop offers invaluable support. Care homes benefit from free
and active. Packages available for individual sites or groups with multi-sites.
Your staff members will be trained through Dancing for Health’s accredited instructor training programme and will have access to pre-recorded videos through their website members’ platform. Staff members will be expected to join in on routines, the dance activities are easy-to-follow and fun.
Each routine can be tailored each time, and participants can choose their favourite ones. They can be used for individual residents who prefer to do activities on their own or delivered within a group setting. The routines are split into slower tempo and more upbeat tracks, so you can pick and choose the tracks suitable for your clients. What’s more, new routines are added regularly!
In addition to providing a fun, safe, accessible, and cost-effective activity, Dancing for Health’s program underwent a rigorous 8-week study, demonstrating remarkable benefits. Participants experienced a significant reduction in anxiety and depression, with mental health scores improving from 42% to 72% post-activity. The program also contributed to better physical health, helping to alleviate fatigue and shortness of breath.
Dance as an activity is great for your brain, it combines physical movement, co-ordination, rhythm and social interaction. When dancing to music we activate the motor, sensory and co-ordination regions of the brain. The song we are dancing to stimulates the reward centres of the brain and boosts endorphin production. Dance stimulates multiple regions of the brain simultaneously and is one of the best ways to keep our brain healthy and prevent dementia.
The classes are designed with diversity in mind, meaning all abilities can take part and feel included. Ideal for integration in health, social care and as prevention practices such as social prescribing. Orchard House Designs specialising in creating innovative and practical solutions tailored for the care industry. Established by Peter Griffen, whose seven years of experience in bespoke furniture design has seen him collaborate with renowned artists like Joseph Walsh and Marc Fish, to create some of the most impactful, innovative, and industry changing designs such as a re-engineered sleep-apnea ventilator for the Royal Brompton Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Combining his expertise in furniture making with medical design, he developed Levata – one of the company’s most recent innovations.
Lower-leg oedema occurs when fluid accumulates in the tissues of the lower legs, leading to swelling. In addition to poor blood flow and infections, this condition can cause
complications such as reduced mobility, skin irritation, ulcers, and even deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
The persistent swelling often results in chronic pain and discomfort for patients, therefore, to help alleviate these issues, Levata was designed as an assistive device that enables individuals with lower-leg oedema to manage their condition more effectively.
Levata footrests are designed to elevate comfort through thoughtful, innovative craftsmanship. Both the static and adjustable models feature a unique hammock system, which extends cushion life and provides superior pressure relief.
Made from solid timber for durability and sustainability, each footrest blends natural beauty with strength. The adjustable model offers a wide range of heights and angles to accommodate any patient’s needs.
For the patient, Lavata provide an effective solution for pressure relief, elevation, and comfort, for care staff, Levata simplifies daily tasks by offering easy-to-adjust support, making it quicker and easier to position patients comfortably.
The company recently showcased Levata at the Care Show 2024 in Birmingham, where it received incredible feedback from everyone who stopped by. The conversations had around Levata were invaluable, with the feedback further inspiring Peter to continue pushing the boundaries of patient-centred design.
Levata embodies the company’s mission to enhance the quality of care through thoughtfully designed products that prioritise patient comfort and improve efficiency for care staff. Like Levata, the entire product range is crafted to address the challenges faced by care providers, offering solutions that save time, enhance safety, and elevate care standards.

With ground-breaking research linking morning coffee consumption to lower cardiovascular risk and reduced overall mortality, coffee lovers have even more reason to start their day with a perfect cup. However, using the purest water is essential to unlock coffee’s health and flavour benefits. Enter the Bluewater Cafe Station 1 – the ultimate solution for specialty coffee shops seeking to elevate their brews with purified, contaminant-free water.
Recent findings published in the European Heart Journal suggest that morning coffee drinkers have a 16% lower overall mortality risk and are 31% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease compared to non-coffee drinkers. Led by Dr. Lu Qi of Tulane University, the study emphasises the amount of coffee consumed and the timing of consumption as a critical factor in health outcomes.
However, coffee’s benefits are only as strong as the quality of the water used to brew it. Many municipal water supplies around the world today contain harmful contaminants like PFAS (per and poly-fluoroalkyl substances), chlorine, heavy metals, and other impurities that can negatively impact both health and taste. Bluewater Cafe Station ensures that every cup is brewed with exceptionally pure water, free of harmful pollutants such as toxic chemicals or microplastic particles while enhancing the coffee’s natural flavour profile.
“As scientific research continues to highlight the positive effects of coffee, it’s more important than ever for cafes to prioritise water quality,” said Bengt Rittri, Bluewater founder and CEO. “The Bluewater Cafe Station removes harmful contaminants and optimises mineral balance, allowing coffee’s true flavours to shine through.”
Explicitly designed for coffee shops, the Bluewater Cafe Station offers:
: Advanced purification technology that removes PFAS, lead, and other impurities.
: Enhanced taste by eliminating off-flavours caused by chlorine and other chemicals.
: Sustainable filtration with an eco-friendly design that reduces plastic waste.
: Consistent water quality for the perfect cup of coffee every time.
At the heart of the Café Station’s innovation is its precision water calibration technology, which tailors the mineral composition of water to match the unique profile of each coffee bean. By fine-tuning water chemistry with the help of Bluewater, baristas can unlock and amplify the intricate flavours and aromas of their specialty beans, ensuring a sublime and consistent brew every time.
Recently recognised by The Caterer Magazine as a ‘Best Buy’ for specialty coffee shops in 2024, the Bluewater Café Station is redefining the bean-tocup journey. Bluewater is at the forefront of this transformation, delivering a solution that respects tradition while embracing modern innovation.
“For the first time ever, Bluewater is empowering baristas to super-power their craft,” says Maximillian Lundin, Coffee Division Manager at Bluewater. “The Bluewater Café Station not only purifies water of all known contaminants, such as PFAS and other harmful chemicals, but also optimally enhances it using our exclusive Liquid Rock® mineral dosing system, which ensures that every cup brewed achieves its fullest flavour
potential, creating an unparalleled sensory experience for coffee lovers.”
Bluewater Liquid Rock® is a unique blend of liquified minerals developed by Bluewater’s in-house scientists and harvested from tens of thousands of year’s old northern Swedish mountains. The mineral solution is delivered via an IoT infuser system steered via a smartphone app that allows users to adjust the mix of minerals according to their taste preferences and wellbeing needs.
But the benefits don’t stop there. Integrated into the system is the Bluewater O, a user-friendly control enabling easy switching between municipal water (for doing the dishes) and purified re-mineralised water. The O allows users to visually check water quality by shifting from an orange shade during the speedy water purification process to an all-blue colour when it is fit to drink.
As more coffee enthusiasts turn to morning brews for both health and enjoyment, specialty coffee shops have a unique opportunity to provide customers with the highest-quality experience that starts with the proper water. With Bluewater Cafe Station, cafes can ensure their coffee tastes exceptional and supports a healthier lifestyle.

November 2024 marks one year since Clinical Psychologist, Dr Danielle Grey, opened the doors of local mental health clinic, Purple House Clinic Birmingham. Located in the heart of historic Coleshill, the clinic supports people of all ages with a range of difficulties such as depression, anxiety, ADHD and autism through a variety of assessments and psychological therapies. During its first year, Purple House Clinic has introduced local people to its services and in return the team have been happily welcomed by the community. Through providing mental health support to those who need it, the clinic has grown extensively, becoming a valued service by people of all ages – and, for Danielle, there are no plans to slow anytime soon!
year has had such a positive impact on Birmingham’s community, and reflects the values strongly held by the clinic to offer personcentred support.
Recently, the team of 12 associate clinicians at Purple House Clinic have introduced autism assessments to their extensive list of services. In an effort to support both adults and children facing long waiting lists, the clinic provides comprehensive assessments that are suitably followed by post-diagnostic support such as understanding their diagnosis and therapy. The team hope that this allows people’s minds to be put at ease knowing that there’s another, more accessible, option out there.
Stress can affect us all. This Stress Awareness Week, it’s essential to highlight the unique challenges that neurodiverse students – particularly those with ADHD and autism – face. For these students, school-related stress can intensify sensory experiences, make focus more challenging and disrupt the routines that provide stability – all of which are vital for success and comfort at school.
Danielle and her team of experienced clinicians are extremely proud to have established something that in just one

People experience stress in different forms every day. Studies have shown that most common cause of stress is work-related, with 4 in 5 adults frequently experiencing this. While a moderate level of stress can improve work performance and work efficiency, too much stress can lead to a negative effect on health, wellbeing, and the overall happiness.
Cats can lower stress
Stress Awareness Day is an annual event which raises awareness about stress, its causes, and effects. Stress Awareness Day falls onto Wednesday 6th November this year. To raise awareness, leading pet insurer petGuard shares how cat ownership can help to combat stress.
Cats can help prevent loneliness One of the biggest reasons why people decide to get a pet is for their companionship. Cats are loving creatures and are great at preventing loneliness. The company that cats provide can help to boost mood and is particularly beneficial to those who are feeling stressed or depressed.
Research has shown that stroking pets helps to reduce the amount of cortisol in human body. The more cortisol people have in their system, the more stressed and anxious they can be. Not only that, but even a cat’s purr can help lower stress. A cat’s purr is around 25-150 Hertz (Hz), with humans being able to hear up to 20,000Hz. Studies have shown that vibrations at a frequency between 20 and 50Hz help increase bone density and can reduce stress by relaxing the muscles.

Here, Becky Ward, Education Specialist at Tutor Doctor, discusses recognising signs of stress, how they appear and their long-term effects. She also covers how parents and schools can collaborate to create supportive environments for neurodiverse students to thrive.
Firstly, I believe it’s important to establish that everyone’s experiences and challenges are
different. This guide speaks to what students may experience. There is no typical neurodiverse challenge, experience or need –it is a broad spectrum. Equally important to understand is the term ‘neurodivergent students’ includes more than just those with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Thomas Tredinnick, CEO and Co-Founder of Ally Cares, highlights how AI monitoring is enabling a holistic approach to resident well-being, helping care homes deliver personalised, preventative care while optimising resources and improving outcomes.
With an ageing UK population, the demand for high-quality care is growing. Care homes face mounting pressure to deliver personalised, preventative care while managing limited staffing and resources. AI monitoring is emerging as a transformative solution, offering care teams deeper insights into resident wellbeing and enabling more holistic approaches to care.
AI-powered systems, like Ally Cares Resident Monitoring, proactively capture unobserved moments and transform them into actionable insights. By addressing unseen needs, care teams can enhance residents' quality of life, reduce health risks, and ease caregivers’ workloads.
AI in care enables a person-centred, preventative approach by empowering teams to act on insights that might otherwise go unnoticed. Subtle changes in patterns like sleep or restlessness can be identified, allowing timely interventions when they’re most needed.
A holistic perspective
Traditionally, care plans have relied heavily on manual observations, which, while invaluable, can miss nuanced patterns in a resident’s health and behaviour. AI monitoring bridges this gap by providing continuous, real-time overviews of resident activity, creating a more accurate picture of their needs.
Jay Trondillo, Regional Director, Maria Mallaband Care Group, shares his experience, “We’ve made massive improvements to our overall falls prevention strategies because we’re alerted much earlier to changes in a resident’s behaviour
like coughing or calling out but also we’ve been able to enhance our patient outcomes by using the reports and insights to deliver care when its needed most.”
AI monitoring fosters a broader cultural shift within care homes, helping staff adopt a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to care.
Data that drives better outcomes
AI doesn’t stop at monitoring – it generates data that empowers care teams to make evidencebased decisions. Patterns can be identified, and risks predicted before they materialise, enabling more effective care.
Julie Burton, Head of Operations at Azalea Court, explains, “We’ve been able to optimise care plans for every resident, leading to transformative improvements in their lives – something we couldn’t achieve with care plan data alone.”
Extended stays and financial stability
AI monitoring not only improves quality of life but also helps extend residents’ stays. Preventing health declines, reducing falls, and optimising sleep allow residents to live longer, happier lives under trusted care.
This technology has also enhanced the reputation of care homes, building confidence among prospective residents and their families, resulting in a rise in occupancy rates.
“I didn’t realise that it would sell rooms. I didn’t realise that it would have such an impact — that on doing a viewing with a family, it would make such a difference to them paying the money and coming here, which is great,” says Mia Williams, Head of Care, Oaklands Rest Home.
AI as a partner, not a replacement
While some worry about AI replacing human interaction, I see it as a complementary tool. AI is not here to replace the compassionate care people provide. Instead, it acts as a partner, giving care teams the insights they need to make the best decisions for their residents. It frees up time for staff to focus on human interaction while ensuring nothing critical is missed.
The future of holistic care
AI monitoring represents a shift towards a more holistic, data-driven approach to resident wellbeing. By capturing and analysing previously unobserved data, care teams can address the full spectrum of residents’ needs, from physical health to emotional wellbeing.
With AI, care homes can move from reacting to problems to anticipating and preventing them. This not only transforms resident care but also builds a future where wellbeing takes centre stage.

Two Scottish companies have been instrumental in the development of the equipment used in the NextGen 7T scanner for the university, Wideblue and MR Coiltech, both based in Glasgow. Wideblue is a leading medical device product consultancy and MR Coilech is a world leader in high-density MRI head coil development.
Results of images produced by the University using the scanners have been published in the prestigious peer reviewed journal Nature Methods. The paper reports that the innovative design of the RF head coils helps achieve a tenfold better resolution for functional MRI brain imaging. This means that scientists can see
functional MRI features at an isotropic resolution of 0.4mm across compared to the 2-3mm which is achieved by standard MRI. The scanner can reach this much higher resolution by using 128 sensor coils compared to 32 in a standard MRI scanner. The advanced scanner records up to 10 times more detail than current 7T scanners and over 50 times more detail than current 3T scanners commonly used in hospitals worldwide.
