Elevating care with innovative design

Orchard House Designs specialising in creating innovative and practical solutions tailored for the care industry. Established by Peter Griffen, whose seven years of experience in bespoke furniture design has seen him collaborate with renowned artists like Joseph Walsh and Marc Fish, to create some of the most impactful, innovative, and industry changing designs such as a re-engineered sleep-apnea ventilator for the Royal Brompton Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Combining his expertise in furniture making with medical design, he developed Levata – one of the company’s most recent innovations.

Lower-leg oedema occurs when fluid accumulates in the tissues of the lower legs, leading to swelling. In addition to poor blood flow and infections, this condition can cause complications such as reduced mobility, skin irritation, ulcers, and even deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

The persistent swelling often results in chronic pain and discomfort for patients, therefore, to help alleviate these issues, Levata was designed as an assistive device that enables individuals with lower-leg oedema to manage their condition more effectively.

Levata footrests are designed to elevate comfort through thoughtful, innovative craftsmanship. Both the static and adjustable models feature a unique hammock system, which extends cushion life and provides superior pressure relief.

Made from solid timber for durability and sustainability, each footrest blends natural beauty with strength. The adjustable model offers a wide range of heights and angles to accommodate any patient’s needs.

For the patient, Lavata provide an effective solution for pressure relief, elevation, and comfort, for care staff, Levata simplifies daily tasks by offering easy-to-adjust support, making it quicker and easier to position patients comfortably.

The company recently showcased Levata at the Care Show 2024 in Birmingham, where it received incredible feedback from everyone who stopped by. The conversations had around Levata were invaluable, with the feedback further inspiring Peter to continue pushing the boundaries of patient-centred design.
