Everyone likes a good water park, especially out in the Arizona desert, yet somehow we never get around to actually going. This Saturday we have two good reasons to do just that. Phoenix Gives has teamed up with Wet’n’Wild water park to support two very IMPORTANT causes; the prevention of child sex slavery and domestic abuse. Streetlight is an organization bringing awareness, prevention, and healing to child sex-slavery victims. Most people think this problem is overseas yet, a staggering amount is in our own neighborhoods and on sites like Craig’s List! The Purple Ribbon Council aids children who have been orphaned by domestic violence and seeks to prevent abuse. By purchasing your Wet’n’Wild tickets through PhxGives.com, $3 of each ticket will go to the charity of your choice. Adding to the event are the Tractor Pull Divas who will be hosting a series of live band performances starting at 1:30pm-5pm. The Tractor Pull Divas have mixed bluegrass, americana and modern rock to a successful sound labeled “New School American.” Come splash around, listen to your new favorite songs and help contribute to a cause that is not just a “good idea” but is necessary in preventing a forced loss of innocence every passing day. www.PHXGives. com

Hell City Tattoo Fest Aug 27-29th

The Hell City tattoo festival is making its way to the West, specifically to the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa. My immediate thought was this would be of interest to only those in the industry. However, after much exploration I discovered that this festival offers more than tattoos. The convention boasts some of the most talented artists from around the country who

will not only be showcasing tattoo art but fine art as well. Events such as the Wet Paint Project, lets you watch as artists create art on canvas as they paint live. The Art Fusion Experiment lets you watch as a team of artists start paintings and switch off to complete each other’s every few minutes. There will be live bands too! Friday night The Father Figures, who have a post-punk sound, will be playing live. On Saturday, the music will be coming from The Green Lady Killers, a sexy female trio who blast high-energy garage-band rock and a bad girl attitude. Sunday’s band will be Sursum, modern music that combines electronic, rock, dance beats, virtual funk, guitars and synthesizers into a whole new sound. Other entertainment will include girl vs girl roller boxing, tattoo competitions, the lovely Suicide Girls, film and educational seminars for those out to learn a thing or two about tattoos. And even a vaudevillestyle “Freak Show,” consisting of all things sharp, pointy, death-defying, and well, on fire. This promises to be sheer entertainment no matter if you have a tattoo or not. www.hellcity. com
