TPHS Teachers, Paezians execute 3-Part Demonstration Festival

T. Paez community helps disaster victims

Lastly, the final week is also the highlight of this festival The district-level demonstration teaching commenced in the conference room on December 2, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. Grade 10Atienza was put to use during the discussion of "Multimedia Resources"

Education Landscape" was the theme of 2022’s 1st Demonstration Teaching Festival, a 3-part preparation consisting of 3 consecutive weeks of observations with different sets of observers.

According to Mrs Princess Ann R Candelaria, an English teacher who is also one of the demo instructors, this event focuses on exhibiting among the participants innovative teaching strategies in the delivery of pedagogical or educational content knowledge It also shares the best practices that teachers and students can

obtain from this activity, which they can apply to the teaching and learning process

The first week was a pop-in observation, which was held in Room 303 of the Karunungan Building on November 11, 2022, from 7:30 a m to 8:20 a m Section Romualdez was used in order to tackle the first lesson, which is about conjunctions

As for the second week, the school-based demo took place in the conference room on November 16, 2022, from 10 a m to 12 p m Grade 10-Fernandez was the class observed with the topic "Claim of Fact, Policy, and Value"

T . Paez ECHO appoints its new Editorial Board members

S Y 2022 2023, together with their School Paper Adviser, Ms Mary Joy Billante, on January 23, 2023

The oath-taking ceremony of T. Paez ECHO was held on January 23, 2023, with the participation of Mr Sonny D Valenzuela, school principal; Mrs. Olivia C. Pasion, English head; and Ms. Mary Joy Billante, school paper adviser of T Paez ECHO

"The main purpose of the event was to appreciate the campus journalists The selection was meticulously done, and their efforts were also assessed as an addition to the screening The staffers also underwent two screenings; the first one was written, while the second

"My experience as a demo instructor has been exceptional! I had the honor of taking part in this prestigious activity I have learned a great deal from the development of my lesson plan to the execution of the subject taught to my students I am in the middle of traditional teaching and the integration of technology in education, which is why the challenge is to innovate my strategies in teaching and incorporate fresh ideas to showcase a student-centered demonstration lesson," she stated "Thank you, Lord, to my mentors and colleagues who worked together and never gave up on me until the final," she added Principals from various elementary and high schools in District 1, as well as PSDS Dr Pacheco and PSDS Dr Joie Fe D Ancheta, monitored this

was an interview," Ms Billante emphasized The new board members include Michaella Miel N Igoy, Editor-In-Chief; Michell Lee T Ople and Jazper F Belmonte, Associate Editors; Thea Maire E Guevarra and Jireh John A Gavina, Managing Editors; Jaianne C Cristobal, News Editor; Riofe C Villoso, Feature Editor; Airielle Jade M. Mr Mark Linson Liwanag led the Disaster Risk Management program, and with the help of the MAPEH Department of Timoteo Paez Integrated School (TPIS), they launched relief distribution for the Grade 7 students affected by the recent fire breakout. It took place shortly after the fire. Immediately after learning about it, the Grade 7 advisers, headed by the curriculum chair, Mrs Eileen C de Leon, called for a meeting to prepare for the relief distribution

"We called upon the Paez community We informed them that there was a fire outbreak and asked for their donations, such as clothing and food packs," Mrs de Leon said "I had a meeting with Grade 7 advisers, and then initially I asked them if there were any victims from the class, and there were I informed them that we were going to have relief operations They will just need to send representatives from each family so they can be given relief goods The school has taken this initiative with regard to relief distribution

It is embedded in our policy It is the policy of the school to help victims because we also have this program

under the school disaster risk management system, and part of that is the release operations So we’re just doing what is stated under that program: we get in touch with the victims' advisers, and then we give them directly to the victims, so that makes sure that they receive what is given to them There’s no use asking the neighbors or the barangay because it might delay the help that they need," she added

Mrs Eileen also stated that one of the challenges is telling the victims to come to school They’re in the process of recovery, and some of them are still traumatized This operation ensured that every family got a package Victims will have to write and sign their names and the number of packs they received to prove that the relief was given to them The organizers of this program prepared well, and some families were able to receive two packs

Mrs De Leon admitted that it had been five years since the last relief distribution was initiated

Although they had it during the pandemic, the main reason for this program is none other than to help the victims and the community

To promote the school’s English Campus Journalism, the T Paez ECHO staffers, along with their school paper’s adviser, Ms Mary Joy M Billante, conducted a campaign on November 10, 2022, from 8 am- 5pm

The staffers visited the rooms of grade 7 – grade 10 students to encourage everyone to take part and enroll in journalism

Since journalism is an additional subject and not required, many students are unfamiliar with it, which results in a decreasing number of interested applicants and students in the said subject

Hence, the campaign is held

The T. Paez ECHO is the English publication of Timoteo Paez, which intends to nurture the competence and dedication of the student-journalists for productive participation in the accumulation of significant information within and outside the school

With this as a vision, the publication is still open to aspiring journalists who seek to improve their writing and communication skills to be part of this field

UAP executes Kaleidoscope Walls

The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) created a workshop program called "Kaleidoscope Walls". It was held on November 11, 2022, in the conference room from 8 a m to 3 p m

This event was led by Mr Melandro Santos, Science Department Head; Mr Sonny D Valenzuela, School Principal; and KULE, the Special Guest It aims to give the Paezians the knowledge and experience to create art by painting the walls

This program showcased the talents in drawing and painting of Paezians, as well as developing new skills The guests taught them how to paint walls and infrastructure, be creative in mural art, and acknowledge the importance of being observant in the projects as an aspiring architect

This activity takes place every year for the Paezians to have a chance to express their talent in painting or making mural art The participants of this activity are Michaella Miel Igoy and Shaira Sion of Grade 10 (Atienza), and Darius Tolentino of Grade 10 (Guinto)

"Kaleidoscope is partnered with the Science Department because it is about innovation and creativity on how we can promote sustainable development, which is very relevant to science Some famous painters like Van Gogh, Michaelangelo many more I was inspired with how they expressed themselves through painting

and art, and as a student of T Paez, I also want to create an impact and see my skills in drawing " Igoy said

“We had a few activities in this workshop, first was the orientation with the architects of the UAP, they shared their experiences in the field of architecture course Not only architects are included in this program, mural artists from the group “KULE” are

my creativity and to believe in my talent It led me to my realization that I can create unique ideas, and a meaningful message to my art It gave me a new opportunity to experience something new in life and discover what I can do to be better and unique ”

Tolentino stated

“It’s important because the

Central, the Department of Education, Government of the Philippines, launched the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program in 2004 with the intention of giving school dropouts access to free basic education throughout the nation

All grade levels have classes in just one room, Room 107, Phase 1, following a schedule with five face-to-face classes per day There are classes such as Parent Education, Informal Education, and Ugnayan sa Barangay for students It also offers modular and online classes for people who have children, work, or cannot go to school personally.

“Hindi na kami sumasali ng programs, para maiwasan na magkagulo ‘Yon kasi ‘yong mindset no’ng ibang estudyante dito tsaka teachers, kapag sinabing ALS, magulo Nagbabago naman sila pag nandito na sila ” Ms Barredo explained

The students of ALS may participate in programs such as start-ups, intramurals, and other sports activities or contests

There are 139 students in ALS in the school year 2022-2023, a combination of the Basic Literacy Program for no-read, nowrite students at the elementary and high school levels

There are age brackets for undergrads in elementary and high school For the elementary level, the enrollee must be 13 years old and up, while for junior high school, they must be 16 years old and up PSA Birth Certificate, Baptismal, or Barangay Certificate, and 4 pieces of 1 x 1 ID pictures are the requirements needed for ALS’s enrollment

Journalism only as an additional subject

Campus journalism is not just a special curricular program for students It is something every student should acknowledge and explore. When watching documentaries, listening to news, or reading articles, we all know that journalists are behind these stories. Something is indeed fascinating and wonderful about their job. Students must be engaged in it, for it will help them in the long run.

It must be implemented as a subject because it helps students to develop their skills, or rather, improve their writing and communication skills well enough so that when they were asked to write essays, articles, stones, or reflection papers, it'd be a piece of cake.

Confidence is built as well. Engaging in journalism includes interviewing many people, public speaking, and giving strong arguments with full courage, knowing that some people will always disagree no matter what. Students need this ability, especially at an early age, because it gives them the

upper hand in their school projects or performances.

Being part of journalism also gives them the opportunity to compete at other schools Knowledge is one of the most powerful weapons a person can have, and participating in such contests proves your worth as a person and as a student Isn't it great to present the school and make its name echo in other people's mouths in a positive way?

Winning is not just the reason for competing but also to make new friends that can also help in improving oneself After all, it's the experiences and lessons we can take the most from that help us grow as individuals, and that is more important than winning Campus Journalism is for everyone; it comes with a variety of categories to choose from. Writing, drawing, layout, and taking photos are all included in journalism Even to those who haven't found their passion or fate yet. Journalism is the perfect place for beginnings. Writing might be tiring, but it's undeniably a great way of expressing thoughts Who wouldn't let their opinions

andfeelingsbejustonthehead?

Of course, great opportunities comewithgreatresponsibilities.

Campus journalism does require snatching up more time after regular school hours It is exhausting to be in school from morning to afternoon, and school activities are always on their way and never stop. A campus journalist must also be represented at all campus events and programs Jot it down here and there; capture everymoment, everysecond. Thefactthatstudentsmayalso prioritize journalism over TLE subjects keeps everyone from making it a school subject. However, itshouldnotbetaken that way Both subjects are necessary skills to have in school and in life Management can be learned, and things will beundercontrol

We cannot deny that campus journalism has everything it takes to be a required subject that benefits students' skills and performances in school and, most importantly, in life. Freedom of speech must be enjoyed to its fullest. We all have many things in mind that we surely want to say out loud After all, campus journalism helps shape an individual's growth and character, which can enable students these days to be more functional and great contributorstosociety.

Nowadays, most students bring their gadgets a cellphone, tablet, and laptop when they are heading up to school In other words, it plays an important role for every learner and also for teachers because it makes their work easier

According to waldenu edu, technologies like gadgets create a more engaging environment You might

think it is just a cause of distraction, but it can really encourage you to participate and be active in your recitation

Furthermore, it can also help you manage time, especially when your adviser assigns a lot of tasks to your group You can use it to communicate with other members even when you're at home Lastly, you can use it to call someone or relatives when there is an emergency

Today, we see our gadgets not just as high-tech devices but also as our associates Maybe it sounds ridiculous

Cyberbullying: Assault through the screen

Now that the internet and mobile devices are easily accessible, misuse of these platforms is very common One of these is cyberbullying harassment through digital media However, this issue is getting much less attention than it deserves Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are common grounds for cyberbullying and harassment. With the anonymity offered by these platforms, users are not afraid to do such things In turn, there is nothing stopping cyberbullying from occurring

According to gmanetwork com, as of February 1, 2023, there had

been around 7,700 cases of cyberbullying in the country Because of the pandemic lockdowns, people around the world, including kids, are spending 20% more time on social media than they were prepandemic Making more opportunities for cyberbullying to occur

Cyberbullying is a problem that comes with progress and modernity, with their pros and cons Even if we cannot completely stop it, we can find ways to at least lessen the incidence of cyberbullying and its effects, such as seminars on how to properly and responsibly use social media platforms and consultations for victims of cyberbullying

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

I just want to tell you about my concern for those students who are not following the safety guidelines from our government Wearing a facemask and observing social distancing in a crowded place like school is still a must since COVID-19 is still a threat to everyone However, some students inside the school are showing carelessness about the virus' threat Some of them are not wearing their facemasks and are being so clingy with each other Some elders who see this kind of scenario are just ignoring it and not paying attention I'm worried for everyone's safety if we just normalize these things Are there any possible solutions to address this problem?Sincerely

yours, John Paul B Ralloma Grade 8-Dagohoy

DearJohnPaul, I appreciate you reaching out about this problem I am noticing the same as I roam around in school, and it's worse that even in our classroom, some are not wearing facemasks I think it's because they are aware that President FerdinandMarcosJr saidthis

September 13, 2022, that facemasks are not mandatory and even said that prioritizing vaccines for children is what we need So for me, I think it's okay to not wear a mask as long as they are not sick and are fully vaccinated However, they must know to distance themselves or wear a mask when they are feeling bad It's their decision anyway, whether to stay safe by following guidelines or be at risk by being careless and putting the school at risk So to my fellow students, we know that Paezians are disciplined, so let's act like one.

Sincerely yours,Michaella Miel N Igoy

Dear Editor,

In the beginning of the school year, during the first and second quarters, a schedule is implemented to have homeroom classes every Friday At first, it is clear that every Friday we will have homeroom classes Students receive clear instructions for attending it, and they attend as ordered However, when the third quarter started, the instructions became very complicated Every Friday, some subject teachers among us announce that there's

homeroom class, but some say there is none Teachers kept dismissing us either late or earlier This complication had caused stress among the students

I am looking forward to your response and suggestions regarding this matter

Sincerely yours,Riofe C Villoso Grade 9 - Abueva DearRiofe, Thismatterisrelevanttome as well because we usually don't have homeroom classes because our adviser says that they have meetings, sometimes urgent meetings They are not to blame because they are just following orders from the authorities So for me, I think we just need to understandthat, andwhateverthe reason, theycan'tholdhomeroom classes After all, we just need to follow because they are the ones whoknowwhatisbestforus

High-quality facilities can aid in high-quality learning

Since face-to-face classes started in August 2022 and full face-to-face in November, many facilities inside Timoteo Paez Integrated School became active and widely used again These facilities include restrooms, canteens, and classrooms, and to be honest, some of them may be a hindrance for students to be able to learn efficiently

Let's talk about the restroom inside the school

As far as I know, there are four restrooms in the school: one in the Filipino Department, one in the Science Department, one in the Old Senior High Building, and one in the THE Department Each is distant from the other It is hard to travel from one building to another, and releasing urine is one of the hardest things to resist

Although there are restrooms in each building, students do not pee that often, so they can still reach out for toilets during break time or every time they come across one.

There is no issue with the location of the restrooms; sometimes, however, the water is not functioning Or sometimes toilets are clogged

The number of school canteens is also a problem There are two

canteens and a small concessionaire in the Old Senior High Building as well as on the back gate of the school (though sometimes they are not open) They all serve different yet similar kinds of foods The canteen near the Filipino Department has vast numbers of chairs to sit on, and they are properly organized The prices of food are accurate, but sometimes the appearance is not good and may look unhealthy

For convenience, it is safe to say that the area is huge and has a big electric fan as well that cools the entire room So long lines or tight spaces do not occur here The other canteen serves dishes like burgers, siopao, biscuits, different drinks, and their most popular sale, ice candy The costs are neither too cheap nor too expensive, and they are extremely affordable In the small concession stand in the old SHS building, they do not just sell food but also school supplies and ice cream, which separates it from other stores inside the school For the evaluation, all of them serve food that can

help learners be more functional and energized It is just that they also sell junk foods, which students may buy instead of healthy ones and, furthermore, will cause possible sickness

At the very end, the classrooms, although I haven't gone into each building, I seem to pass through most of them and get a small glimpse Some rooms are wellventilated, while others are not Some also have large spaces, while some do not Allowing air to go in and out of a classroom is necessary for a good learning atmosphere The more refreshing and cool it is, the more comfortable it is, and the less distracted you are from the lessons

How do we say that these facilities can affect the student's learning? It is because a well-built facility will not only provide a safe working environment for teachers and students alike but will also entice teachers to join the teaching staff and stay Proper facilities give teachers and students a safe space to teach as well as one that is beneficial for their physical and emotional health I suggest that these be improved and well guided so that they become more comfortable for everyone in the school

Bags:

Underneath the zippers

Bags became a staple as face-to-face classes were implied once again Though some may use it for style and for carrying objects, students can also bring prohibited materials inside the campus Which is why it must be prevented before some cases get worse

According to Guidance

Counselor Mr Romeo Tan during the afternoon assembly, they once saw pupils using an illegal substance in an area of the administration building Personally, I also had an experience wherein a concerned learner said that one student in their grade level carried a knife without consent

This problem is one reason why leveling up our security might be one of the solutions to lessening their predicaments

One of the steps is to check one's bag at the entrance with the help of guards and other school organizations

However, if performed illegally or without consent, it could only lead to a worst-case scenario as it could violate Republic Act 10173, the Data Privacy Act of 2012 Hence, bagcheckers must keep in mind not to invade students' rights

On the brighter side, if executed properly, it'll not only identify those who carry dangerous items, but it'll also serve as a layer of protection for Paezians against the mentioned circumstances

Therefore, I'd say that it is a step we can take A step that could pave the way for TPIS to be at its safest

Feminism: Girls Supporting Girls

"If feminism means freedom, it means the right to selfdetermination and the right to be multi-dimensional, disorganized, and even incoherent " It is a quote from Lola Olufemi

The author of Feminism, Interrupted: Disrupting Power, defines feminism as a movement for being who you truly are, even when there are imperfections

In the new age of feminism, the idea of supporting women has been a great concept for most people Women have had and still have it hard when it comes to oppression Therefore, having a sense of support for each other is a great way to combat the suffering that they experience from social, political, and economic institutions that are dominated by men

It seems like a pleasant

take note of the different opinions, lifestyles, and other factors that may cause conflicts within the contrasting beliefs, knowledge, and personalities of womenandpeopleingeneral Disagreements and arguments rarely happen when a community supports each other and is loyal to their motives, but it is also essential to growth; disagreeing with someone on onethingdoesn’tmeanthatyou disagree with them on everything Whenever a woman expresses disagreements with another woman, they receive remarkslike"Ithoughtthatyou were a feminist?" or "What about girls supporting girls?" and other passive-aggressive comments It is now used as a weapon: the idea that if you don’t agree with another woman, you’reabadfeminist Research has shown that women, specifically those who are part of groups of minorities ch as LGBTQ+, black, genouswomen, etc),feela

lack of support from other women because they are being spoken about and are not being heard

The intention behind the phrase "girls supporting girls" isn't as healthy as many people think it is; if they blindly support each other, then it means that they would accept and acknowledge the negative traits and opinions of other women instead of criticizing them There are valid reasons to dislike them, especially if they have different beliefs and opinions than other people If a woman is racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc,it wouldn’tbeanoffensetocallher out on her unhealthy point of view

Bell Hooks, a widely known feminist author, has written that women coming together doesn’t havetomeanthatwomenareall the same, that they believe the same things, or that they go through the same things They should acknowledge that they are divided because they must develop strategies to overcome fears, prejudice, and competitiveness

The popular designs and styles of apparel, accessories, and beauty products that are in style at a given moment are referred to as "fashion trends"

Cultural, societal, and economic aspects, as well as the tastes of well-known designers, public figures, and fashion icons, all haveanimpactonthesetrends

One of the biggest fashion crazes, loved by many, is athleisure wear It is a style that combines both athletic and leisure wear This type of clothing is worn not only for working out; it can also be used for regular errands and even formal events It is popular mainly because it offers comfort, is fashionable, and can be worn for all occasions Famous celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid are often seen wearing this style

Another is sustainable fashion Clothing made from organic or natural

materials and recycled materials fall under this type of clothing

This is especially popular due to the rise in concerns regarding our environment Its classification is both fashionable and sustainable; take the fashion brand Kotn, for example Kotn makes clothes that are not just resource-friendly but also fashionable

Along with these is the comeback of late 1900s and early 200s fashion, or "Y2K" fashion A lot of people, most commonly women, are big fans ofthistypeofaesthetic Clothing items and accessories such as low-rise jeans and skirts, bucket hats, chunkyshoes, belts, vibrantlycoloredtops, and denim hats and jackets are back in style, and a lot of people are loving them The Y2K style was first popularized by Destiny's Child, a musical group in the early 2000s, and recently brought back to the fashion world by multiple celebrities suchasRihannaandDuaLipa

Finally, vintage fashion, according to industry standards clothing that is 20 years or older is considered vintage In an effort to find these types of apparel or accessories to wear and style, people are now rummaging through thrift stores Clothing pieces that fall under this category are not mass-produced and are considered rare and timeless fashion

Fashion is such an important part of the world that we live in, but many people only consider it a thing to appease the eyes From athleisure wear and sustainable fashion to Y2K and vintage fashion, multiple fashion styles and trends are created so that every individual may express themselves through style and creativity Clothing is part of our basic human needs, but why settle for the bare minimum when you can be fashionable?

An outdoor activity that involves the use of a vehicle without consuming gases or fossil fuels, but only our physical ability to pedal our feet Cycling is a known activity that was done in earliercenturies

People are currently experiencingtheeffectsofglobal warming due to their actions Global warming is happening because of excessive usage of fossil fuels and gases that usually come from houses, factories, and mostly airplanes, motorcycles, and cars that consumeagreatamountof

gases and result in the greenhouse effect Cycling is one of this problem’s solution

Cycling involves no gases, which means no emission of greenhouse gases will occur Bicycles do not have exhaust pipes that will cause the combustion of smoke; therefore, the deduction of global warming is possible

The use of bicycles benefits not only the environment but also the people who ride bicycles, or cyclists This can help in the sense that this activity enhances our physical ability and endurance, which people need these days, especially now that there is an

in heart attacks

and heat stroke cases here in the Philippines

Thus, this vehicle that seems simple has a lot more impact on our overall lives and environment than it seems Nowadays, the advocacy of outweighing the risks of inhalation of air pollutants by using bicycles and vehicles with no use of gas continues The encouragement for using this will result in the world being a better place, not only for the world but also for its people

Before becoming a hero,

Timoteo Paez was considered a gifted child who learned to read the cartilla at a young age He then went to study at Tondo Municipal School, and after graduating, he worked office jobs in daylight and studied at Escuela Nautica during the night He joined "Carrinage & Co " as a shipping employee after earning his accounting degree, and it was at that point that he developed an interest in the reform movement He learned more about Jose Rizal by reading his literary

When the Spaniards learned abouttheKatipunanmovement in 1896, many suspected people were arrested, including Paez General Primo de Rivera then pardonedhimafterninemonths in prison and sent him into exile inHongKong

In September of 1898, he returned to the Philippines and joined the revolutionary government of General Emilio Aguinaldo, where he was assigned as a commissary officer and representative of the province of Surigao in the revolutionarycongress

HERO OF ABILITY NOT CAPABILITY

There once lived a man named Marcus who found himself on the verge of ending He is living in a world where it seems the end is near. Unexpectedly, he was chosen for a crucial role as the hero. He didn't possess any extraordinary abilities, but his unwavering determination and kind-hearted nature made him a fitting candidate. He is fully aware of the great responsibility that lies ahead. With this power, Marcus embarked on a daring journey.

In his journey, he doesn't know what challenges are ahead, whether they are easy

or will take his life away But he fought as if he were immortal, he didn’t show any weakness

However, despite all of his efforts and perseverance, it was not enough to overcome his foes He must have underestimated them, and this caused his ultimate downfall.

When things got a little calmer for him, he realized that he was very disappointing and a failure He failed to protect his people, and it only puts them in deeper trouble. He felt like the world was on his shoulders, and he failed to carry everything.

Now he is alone, left with all the guilt and desolation With this, Marcus’ heart was filled with another light, the light of hope. He was empowered and had more strength to rise from where he had fallen. He accepts the fact that he won’t be able to get back in time to fix everything, but he resolves to make amends and rebuild what has been lost. He dedicated himself once again, in order to stop the end of the world. In his battle, he gained

more conviction and power to let the world and its people keep living. In which he eventually succeeded.

As time passed and the world healed, he realized that his failure did not define his worth as a hero, rather, it was an ingredient that made him grow as a person and become resilient. He became an inspiration for many people, and was even loved by children. He then shares his experiences and gives motivational

speeches to everyone about battling against the biggest challenges, and sometimes it is the self.

Marcus may not have saved the world at first, but he inspired a new group of heroes to keep fighting for a better future And maybe, just maybe, the world will be saved by the combined efforts of these heroes, just as they were on the verge of destroying it

The education system, a complex web of rules, A tangled mess of expectations and tools

It’s a system that’s meant to help us grow, But it’s hard to see the light when we’re in throes

We’re taught to think in a certain way To fit into a box and stay in the fray

We’re told to learn the facts and memorize dates

But the real lessons are often left to fate

We’re taught to starve for the highest grade, But the real success lies in the knowledge made

We’re taught to focus on the tests and the scores But the real knowledge has an open door

We’re taught to think in a certain way

But the real lessons come can’t say

We’re told to learn the facts dates

But the real education lies made

Every sunrise's golden hue, And flowers kissed by morning dew, The beauty of life begins to unroll, In a world adorned, a precious pearl

From mountain tops that touch the sky, To vast oceans, where dolphins fly, Nature's wonders, a breathtaking sight, Painting the canvas with colors so bright

In gentle whispers of summer breeze, Or autumn's dance among vibrant trees, As the seasons change, symphonies are played, Life's artwork, a masterpiece displayed

From laughter shared with loved ones dear,

To friendships forged, forever near, Humanity's embrace, a bond too strong, Uniting hearts with a joyful song

In acts of kindness, compassion thrives, A flame of hope that never dies, Together we build, a world anew, Where love and understanding breakthrough

So let us marvel at each precious day, In this grand stage where we all play, For life's beauty, both big and small, Reminds us that we are blessed to be a part of it all

Quill-Penned Memories

I traveled down once again, Where time’s entwined with memories Saw ourselves Chasing fireflies underneath the starlit sky, Fantasizing about dreams so high

In the haze of innocence, We danced hand-in-hand As autumn leaves swaying, and descending to the land

It never crossed my mind On how the tables turned so swiftly Uttered our last goodbyes, As I was drowning in your ocean eyes.

With every drought and raging sea, You were once my remedy Now all that’s left for me, Are our quill-penned memories

My headphones on

Wendy, such a fluttering name

You are as pretty as d i i

Your voice is so lovel

Your body is elegantl

Every time I see you, My heart flutters

As if I were daydream

You show kindness to

Your smile makes my

When I first saw you

I eventually fell for y

Words could not admiration

Thank you for being my sunshine,

Son Seung Wan

Silence filled the hallways, where memories once resided The empty, quietude rooms, ups and downs once lived

For every laughter shared, and tears, shed The lessons we’ve learned, and the hopes and dreams, chased

The last bell took its toll, a bittersweet chime Signaling we’ve end our goal, like a sunrise after a long climb

As we walked onto the stage, and stood upon the podium There goes another page, added in our life’s album

You thought leaving me made my day gray, but you never realized that with my headphones on, the pain goes away Like music to my ears

Your yells in the background smear Don't think you brought me down because, with my headphones on, I don't shed any tears

With you, my head used to always be staring at the floor, But, baby, with my headphones on, I'm better than before Just because I was feeling somber, I didn't give you the authority to run me over

Withyournagging, youwereoh, sosly butnow, darling,IholdmyheaduphighWithmy headphoneson,I'mhappierthaneverSweetieand formerdarling, I hope to never see you again

Native Dog in the Philippines Named ‘Asong Gubat’

The Philippine Canine Club Incorporated (PCCI) introduced the Philippines’ first indigenous dog breed, the dog witch, also called "asong gubat,"onJanuary2,2023

The "asong gubat" was first found in the ancestral lands of Bukidnon, Mindanao It is called a bird catcher in Luzon and a witch dog in Visayas Philippine Indigenous Dog Researcher, Tom Asmus, studied dogs for years, especially this breed Asmus observed and expressed that it has its own unique characteristics One of its traits is that it can survive independently in the jungle despite being taken care of at home "They climb trees after prey, hunt snakes, and are capable of surviving on just jungle vegetation," Asmus stated He also said that it’s difficulttokeepawild-blooded one domestically, as they have little to no resistance to common domesticated canine illnesses

According to Asmus, the asong gubat has a breed of its own that has been overlooked for years It also has several namesinEnglish, suchaswitch dog, forestdog, ortigerdog

It has other unique traits, including sharper claws that shed regularly, genitals less than half the diameter of most domestic dogs, so it usually mates with their kind, a double-sealing anus, a very high prey drive, black lips, blackgums, ablackroofofthe mouth, and tongue spotting There are a few species of this breed, mostly found in the provincesofMindanao

Most Filipinos believed that it was only a myth and that these types of dogs did not exist, but studiesstarted to provetothemthatthesetypes ofraredogsdoexist and could only be found in the Philippines

Eichornia crassipes (water hyacinth), an invasive aquatic plant that has become a major pest in tropical and subtropical areas, can be made into fertilizer

Hyacinth has invaded many tropical and subtropical bodies of water It eliminates native plant life and collapses the local aquatic ecosystem It also clogs shipping lanes in lakes and rivers and requires costly and frequent manual removal Water hyacinth is one of the biggest problems around the world It grows so fast that one plant can provide 248 offspring every 90 days in ideal conditions Its primary mode of reproduction is by natural division. It is also produced by seeds, which can remain viable for up to 20 years and remain wet or dry

On the other hand, to make fertilizer using water hyacinth, it can be dried out and mixed with other ingredients to make a rich composition The mix contains one part of dry water hyacinth, one part of animal manure, and one part of filler such as asher, wood chips, or poor-quality soil The compost file is left to sterilize the bacteria and seed for about three months and is turned regularly before being applied to farm crops

Compost made from water hyacinth should be spread evenly across a garden and filled into the soil when preparing for spring planting

SCIENTIST DISCOVERS VIRUSONLY-EATING MICROBE

JAZPER BELMONTE

Tiny Halteria ciliates are virovores that obtain energy and nutrients from consuming viruses This microbe usually lives in ponds and is able to survive on a virusonly diet

According to a research report published on December 27, 2022, in proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the singlecelled Halteria ciliates, also known as Halteria grandnella, are the first known to only consume viruses These microbes are part of a genus of

common plankton ciliates that are found in many freshwater environments Research led by ecologist John DeLory of the University of Nebraska Lincoln and his team experimented with halteria to see its response to a diet consisting only of viruses In their experiments, bacteria that were living in water droplets and given only chloroviruses, which infect and kill algae for sustenance, were able to reproduce "Viruses

could be a good source of phosphorus, which is essential for making copies of the genetic material of the mentioned microbe " DeLory says "These feasts could shunt previously unrecognized energy into the food web and add a new layer to the way viruses move carbon through an ecosystem " They can also help stop epidemics that spread throughout algae " DeLory added

Water hyacinth has a higher nitrogen content than many other plants, which will aid vegetation growth in gardens A vigorously growing garden plant produces more and better-quality fruit and vegetables

THE DISADVANTAGES OF PROCRASTINATION

GABRIELLESIDONIERCALUGCUGAN

The act of delaying tasks is known as procrastination; it prevents you from completing them on time

To stall or procrastinate is the deliberate postponement of a crucial duty we want to do, even though we know the consequences will be negative

"This is why we say that procrastination is essentially irrational," stated Dr Fuschia Sirois, professor of psychology at the University of Sheffield "It doesn't make sense to do something you know is going to have consequences." "People engage in this irrational cycle of chronic procrastination because of an inability to manage negative moods around a task," she added According to solvingprocastination com, 75% of people consider themselves procrastinators, and 80%–90% of college students procrastinate in a consistent and chronic manner While it does have its benefits, such as allowing your brain to reflect on the topic or issue

that can foster better creativity and imaginative thinking, it at times creates pressure, increasing stress and illness Procrastination can create anxiety and depression One of the reasons people procrastinate is because they find the task overwhelmingly difficult or have difficulty concentrating due to the environment It can be difficult to complete a task, especially if it involves pressure, but know that there is a way to overcome procrastination You must first create a solid plan, manage your time wisely, do it carefully and step-by-step, avoid any techniques that involve procrastination, be realistic with the goal in mind, and give yourself a deadline Procrastination may have an effect on mental health that may lead to anxiety and unproductiveness, creating pressure and stress in the process That's why it's important to have wise time management and to do things one by one.

Discrimination in schools in the Philippines

Students experience microaggressions or bigotry that are subtle and difficult to catch These microaggressions can affect one's mental health because they simply don't provide the evidence to point out the people who are against them

For another vulnerable demographic, students who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community highly experience discrimination in their day-to-day lives

Heteronormative policies and rules can negatively impact the student's perception and may make them think that no one is on their side

Fortunately, the Department of Education (DepEd) has now been working on promoting quality, equitable, culturebased, and complete basic education for Filipino students In an official statement that DepEd made about oppression, they stated that they do not tolerate discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, or sexual orientation and that the department is committed to doing its part to eliminate discriminatory practices in schools and offices

Discriminatio serious issue that experience to this is the practice of unjustified p distinctions bas characteristics, s race, age, gender class, etc , to w belongs either f or implicitly

Inequality ca our society and in many ways, and forms It ha individual's health socially, mentally, emotionally, and physically Persistent exposure to discrimination can lead to a person's self-esteem declining The American Psychological Association (APA) articulated that psychological research shows that discrimination can exacerbate stress and that discriminationrelated worry is linked to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression Unfair treatment in schools is one of the places where people, specifically children, experience these exposures to prejudice, which can harm them significantly because of their level of maturity and sensitivity

Filipino students deserve a safe space where they can freely express themselves without getting ridiculed because of their traits and attributes

DOESTHEMUSICWELISTEN DOESTHEMUSICWELISTEN TOAFFECTOURMIND? TOAFFECTOURMIND?

Music has long been known to have a powerful influence on human emotions, but scientific research is uncovering just how deeply it can alter our way of thinking Now you may wonder, "How does the music we listen to affect our mind?

According to a study at Johns Hopkins Medicine, the quality of sleep, mood, mental clarity, and memory can all be enhanced by listening to music while also lowering anxiety, blood pressure, and discomfort As stated by another study conducted at the University of Arizona, as music enters our brains, one of the first things that occurs is the activation of pleasure centers, which creates dopamine, a neurotransmitter that improves one’s mood

Every person that listens to music has their own preference in music genres, and every single one of them has a different effect on our brains How does the type of music we listen to affect our way of thinking? Calming music, such as jazz, soothes our minds and helps us de-stress

Another study from JHM discovered that jazz music can improve linguistic abilities, moods, memory recall, and clarity of thought

Research has suggested that listening to jazz music can improve moods and reduce stress Some listeners may find it beneficial since jazz music’s complex rhythms and harmonies can leave them feeling peaceful and relaxed Artists such as Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra are known for their jazz music

Pop music is a genre of popular music Metal or heavy metal music is known for having throaty voices, aggressive drumming, extremely low bass notes, and strongly distorted guitar riffs and chords The fast-paced rhythms and loud, aggressive instrumentation can stimulate the brain and increase heart rate and blood pressure, which can be beneficial for some listeners in certain contexts Moreover, metal music has been shown to stimulate the brain’s reward centers, resulting in sensations of pleasure and ecstasy However, critics have said that the aggressive lyrics of the songs in this genre might impact the brain in a negative way Bands in the heavy metal genre include Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden

It is characterized by catchy melodies, upbeat rhythms, and a focus on commercial success Most people who listen to pop music are creative, have high self-esteem, and have an outgoing personality Moreover, the impact of pop music on the brain can also depend on the context of listening For instance, listening to pop music while working out or doing something else that calls for concentration and focus might improve performance and motivation However, listening to pop music at high volumes for extended periods can lead to hearing damage and have negative effects on cognitive function This genre is often associated with artists, namely Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande

Numerous studies have shown that the music we listen to actually affects our minds The different genres of music that we hear have different impacts on our brains, both positive and negative

New Spin Serve: banned for now or forever

A new kind of serve has taken the world of badminton by storm A technique making the service "unreturnable"

However, not everyone is happy about this new "spin serve," thinking it is too good to be a legal move and that it creates too much advantage

All of these appeals and concerns from the badminton community and even from professional athletes had reached the World Badminton Federation, causing them to approve a temporary ban of said serve from all of their upcoming tournaments until May 29, 2023 Giving them time to decide if they will deem the spin as a legal move or if they will consider it an illegal move and permanently ban it Some may consider this to be nothing but a strategy; however, it is not This technique makes the service unreturnable by releasing the shuttlecock with a spin that comes from the fingers of the server, therefore modifying the movement of the shuttlecock itself The WBF should permanently ban this technique not only because it creates conflict in the community but also because it gives too much of an advantage and is nevertheless unfair

The spin serve was first used by Danish doubles player Marcus Rindshoj during the Oslo Polish Open 2023 last month, giving him a major advantage and accumulating points

that led him to win his matches Other varieties of this spin serve exist, but all of these are considered the same This technique is very similar to the infamous Sidek Serve that terrorized the world of badminton during the 1970s, invented by the father of the Sidek brothers and used by them to dominate all of their competition, Haji Sidek bin Abdullah Kamar By serving

(then IBF) finally deemed it illegal as experts considered it to be violating the double contact rule as the serve causes the racquet to brush both the cork and the feathers BWF President PoulErik Hoyer said in a statement, "BWF welcomes players creating innovation in our game and experimenting with techniques to create competitive advantage on court

However, we have received several points of feedback from within the badminton community, including from the BWF Athletes' Commission, expressing that this 'spin serve' could have a negative impact on the game" Followed by an adjustment to the amendment to 9 1 5 of Section 4 1 of the BWF Laws of Badminton now stating that the server shall release the shuttle without adding spin and the server's racket shall initially hit the base of the shuttle Any failure to adhere to the experimental variation of the law will result in a fault being called

with an inverted hold of the shuttlecock and hitting the feathers instead of the cork, causing the shuttle to move erratically, making it very difficult to return, very similar to how the new spin serve works The Sserve was considered legal up until July 1, 1982, when the WBF

Techniques such as the spin serve and the sidek serve are the reason why laws and rules exist: to prevent unfairness In the case of the spin serve, it is, without a doubt, unfair and should forever be banned to preserve the integrity of the sport

A sport that uses lightweight rackets and a shuttlecock, also known as badminton, was first executed during the mid19th century in India, where it was invented While the sport was first introduced in the 1920s in the Philippines

Badminton is played in the two most common forms: "singles," with one player per side across the net one on one; and "doubles," wherein two players stand on each side two versus two The game is simply played by serving to the other player or team, and then the opposing players hit the shuttlecock back to the other players The continuous exchange of hits is called a "rally" The

player or team must gain 21 points to win

Aside from this sport being easy and understandable for us to play, it is also giving us benefits physically and mentally It enhances our physical abilities just by playing this sport, and it can help us mentally by reducing stress if we play with exhilaration

Overall, badminton is a sport that’s been loved for its uncomplicated and joyful forms. A lot of people enjoy it the most when they play with their peers, friends, or family

It is therapeutic to think that such games can form bonds and share moments with each other The world continues to encourage the field of badminton as it gives us merriment.
