Dear Editor,

I just want to tell you about my concern for those students who are not following the safety guidelines from our government Wearing a facemask and observing social distancing in a crowded place like school is still a must since COVID-19 is still a threat to everyone However, some students inside the school are showing carelessness about the virus' threat Some of them are not wearing their facemasks and are being so clingy with each other Some elders who see this kind of scenario are just ignoring it and not paying attention I'm worried for everyone's safety if we just normalize these things Are there any possible solutions to address this problem?Sincerely yours, John Paul B Ralloma Grade 8-Dagohoy

DearJohnPaul, I appreciate you reaching out about this problem I am noticing the same as I roam around in school, and it's worse that even in our classroom, some are not wearing facemasks I think it's because they are aware that President FerdinandMarcosJr saidthis

September 13, 2022, that facemasks are not mandatory and even said that prioritizing vaccines for children is what we need So for me, I think it's okay to not wear a mask as long as they are not sick and are fully vaccinated However, they must know to distance themselves or wear a mask when they are feeling bad It's their decision anyway, whether to stay safe by following guidelines or be at risk by being careless and putting the school at risk So to my fellow students, we know that Paezians are disciplined, so let's act like one.

In the beginning of the school year, during the first and second quarters, a schedule is implemented to have homeroom classes every Friday At first, it is clear that every Friday we will have homeroom classes Students receive clear instructions for attending it, and they attend as ordered However, when the third quarter started, the instructions became very complicated Every Friday, some subject teachers among us announce that there's homeroom class, but some say there is none Teachers kept dismissing us either late or earlier This complication had caused stress among the students

High-quality facilities can aid in high-quality learning

Since face-to-face classes started in August 2022 and full face-to-face in November, many facilities inside Timoteo Paez Integrated School became active and widely used again These facilities include restrooms, canteens, and classrooms, and to be honest, some of them may be a hindrance for students to be able to learn efficiently

Let's talk about the restroom inside the school

As far as I know, there are four restrooms in the school: one in the Filipino Department, one in the Science Department, one in the Old Senior High Building, and one in the THE Department Each is distant from the other It is hard to travel from one building to another, and releasing urine is one of the hardest things to resist

Although there are restrooms in each building, students do not pee that often, so they can still reach out for toilets during break time or every time they come across one.

There is no issue with the location of the restrooms; sometimes, however, the water is not functioning Or sometimes toilets are clogged

The number of school canteens is also a problem There are two canteens and a small concessionaire in the Old Senior High Building as well as on the back gate of the school (though sometimes they are not open) They all serve different yet similar kinds of foods The canteen near the Filipino Department has vast numbers of chairs to sit on, and they are properly organized The prices of food are accurate, but sometimes the appearance is not good and may look unhealthy

For convenience, it is safe to say that the area is huge and has a big electric fan as well that cools the entire room So long lines or tight spaces do not occur here The other canteen serves dishes like burgers, siopao, biscuits, different drinks, and their most popular sale, ice candy The costs are neither too cheap nor too expensive, and they are extremely affordable In the small concession stand in the old SHS building, they do not just sell food but also school supplies and ice cream, which separates it from other stores inside the school For the evaluation, all of them serve food that can help learners be more functional and energized It is just that they also sell junk foods, which students may buy instead of healthy ones and, furthermore, will cause possible sickness

At the very end, the classrooms, although I haven't gone into each building, I seem to pass through most of them and get a small glimpse Some rooms are wellventilated, while others are not Some also have large spaces, while some do not Allowing air to go in and out of a classroom is necessary for a good learning atmosphere The more refreshing and cool it is, the more comfortable it is, and the less distracted you are from the lessons

How do we say that these facilities can affect the student's learning? It is because a well-built facility will not only provide a safe working environment for teachers and students alike but will also entice teachers to join the teaching staff and stay Proper facilities give teachers and students a safe space to teach as well as one that is beneficial for their physical and emotional health I suggest that these be improved and well guided so that they become more comfortable for everyone in the school

This problem is one reason why leveling up our security might be one of the solutions to lessening their predicaments

One of the steps is to check one's bag at the entrance with the help of guards and other school organizations

However, if performed illegally or without consent, it could only lead to a worst-case scenario as it could violate Republic Act 10173, the Data Privacy Act of 2012 Hence, bagcheckers must keep in mind not to invade students' rights

On the brighter side, if executed properly, it'll not only identify those who carry dangerous items, but it'll also serve as a layer of protection for Paezians against the mentioned circumstances

Therefore, I'd say that it is a step we can take A step that could pave the way for TPIS to be at its safest
