On Monday 19th February, 98 students in Years 9 and 10 met in the Theatre to begin their year in the 2018 Performing Arts Academy. The Performing Arts Academy fosters the talent and skill of our junior students who are passionate about their learning in Dance, Drama, and Music. Throughout the year, students undertake five lessons per fortnight (at 7:45am) to develop technical and performance skills in their chosen art form. Look out for their performances this year!

ARCHERY
The Avondale College Archery team shot for the first time this past week in the ranking round. Based on our performance we were placed in Division 2. We are confident our Archery Team will do well this coming week as they compete against Bardene B.
ATHLETICS
The Auckland Athletics Track and Field Championship was held at Mt Smart Stadium from Friday 16th February to Sunday 18th February. The day saw 10 Avondale College students participate in various events, coming out with 11 medals in total, 7 being Gold. Jaspar Hipkins won Gold, placing 1st in the Mens under 16 Triple Jump. Tremayne Redman-Gardner won Gold in the Mens under 16 High Jump. Lex Revell-Lewis winning 2 Gold Medals, placing 1st in both the 800m and 400m Grade 13 Boys. Max Van Der Westhuizen placed 2nd in the 4x100 relays, picking up the Silver Medal for the Grade 13 Boys. Percy Maka won 2 Gold Medals in Grade 12 Boys Shotput and Discus. Percy set new Auckland Championship Records in both events whilst doing so! William Tuhega-Collings collected the Bronze Medal in Discus for Grade 12 Boys. Grace Nweke won Gold in the Womens under 18 High Jump and was also selected for the Auckland Team to compete at the New Zealand Track and Field Championships. Hayley Greenhalgh won Silver in the Girls Grade 13 High Jump. Congratulations to all the athletes for their outstanding achievements over the weekend.
CRICKET
The 1st XI Boys won their first match of the season against Macleans College over the weekend by 19 runs. The Year 10 Boys played Glendowie in their game on Saturday. Glendowie batted first and were all out for 51. The boys bowled well with a wet ball and the fielders backed up their bowlers taking all catches in the field. The boys started the run chase well, lost three quick wickets but the 4th wicket partnership saw us home, finishing on 52 for 3; winning by 7 wickets. The Year 9 Boys lost to Kings College by 8 wickets.
ORIENTEERING
The AKSS Sprint Series for Orienteering began this week at Waitakere College. Liam Stolberger represented Avondale College in the Senior Boys division. He ended the sprint with a time of 10:32, which placed him 3rd overall. We look forward to following his progress this coming week at Kelston Boys.
TENNIS
The Senior Girls played their first game of the season against Marist, the girls showed great sportsmanship throughout, unfortunately losing 8-1 on the day. The Senior Boys also played their first game of the season against Auckland Grammar. A great effort, however, losing narrowly by 5-4.
TOUCH
All Senior Mixed touch games were cancelled.
VOLLEYBALL
The Senior Girls lost both their games by 2-0 against Mt Albert Grammar and Kelston Girls. In both games we definitely held our rotation well. Both Mt Albert Grammar and Kelston Girls scrambled for the ball and we gave away many easy points. Maria Ofati was strong on the serve and open attack side. Daphne Edwards really stepped into the middle position nicely. The Senior Boys won 2-0 against Onehunga High. Showing great display of athleticism throughout and are shaping up well to come up against some of the premier teams in the competition.

Nurse Heather Playle, Physiotherapist Karen Alderson, Nurse Hannah Normington and Administrator Donna Devlin The Avondale College Health Clinic is staffed by two nurses, a physiotherapist and an administrator. It is located in the Transverse Corridor, opposite the library. The Health Clinic is open from 8.45am - 3.15pm. We welcome information from parents about your child's health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school. The College asks for medical information when you enrol your child, and it is important to let us know if your child's health care needs change, or if a new health condition develops. Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and other health care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents. Please email the nurses (nurse@avcol.school.nz), or phone the Avondale College clinic (09) 820 1718 or (021) 847 949. This will greatly assist our school in planning how best to support your child's health and wellbeing. Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details, or those of the person nominated as an emergency contact.
PHYSIO We also have a physiotherapist in the Health Clinic who is available to students between Monday to Friday 8.30am-2pm. If your child needs treatment they can make appointments in the Health Clinic waiting room. There is no charge for injury covered by ACC (ACC forms can be completed at the school Health Clinic if not already seen by a doctor). Our Physio can also treat private or non-ACC injuries as well, but there is a charge for this. Our Physio is also happy to do sports strapping before games, with a $2 charge to cover the cost of tape.
TAUREWA CAMP 2018 Year 10, Year 12 and Year 13 students have the opportunity to go to Taurewa Camp. We encourage families to start making early regular payments towards the Taurewa Camp fee, as the camp fee must be fully paid prior to departure. Year 10 students will receive their first briefing for their camp approximately 10 weeks before departure, but students are encouraged to tell their parents early that their camps are coming up this year.
