B CAMBRIDGE AWARDS The outstanding scholarship of kiwi students in the international Cambridge examinations last year was celebrated at a special awards ceremony on Wednesday 15 February at Eden Park. Three Avondale students received awards at this event following their exceptional results in CIE. Bronwen Lamb: Top in Country A2 Psychology; 1st in A2 History Husna Izzuan: Top in Country AS Psychology Nia Sky: 1st in A2 Business Their success is extremely impressive, says Roger Franklin-Smith, Senior Manager of CIE for New Zealand, Australia and Pacific Islands. "Last year more than one million students sat Cambridge examinations in over 10,000 schools." "Your exceptional results demonstrate your academic flair, subject expertise, and also reflect the hard work you invested last year."

SCIENCE TRIP TO MAORI BAY On a beautiful sunny Tuesday, 80 Avondale students from 13SCI and 13SCC, along with their teachers, travelled out to Maori Bay for a Earth and Space Science field trip. The beach, near Muriwai, is well known for the striking rock face that has resulted from the eruption of a huge volcano millions of years ago in Waitakere. The students were using this trip as a way to gather evidence about the eruption, and learning to "tell the story" of how the rock face was formed. With amazing weather, and expert teachers, the students gained invaluable information for their upcoming assessment, as well as learning about how this part of New Zealand was formed million years of years ago. The students finished off the day with a walk around the gannet colony.

Nurse Heather Playle, Physiotherapist Karen Alderson, Nurse Hannah Normington and Administrator Donna Devlin The Avondale College Health Clinic is staffed by two nurses, a physiotherapist and an administrator. It is located in the Transverse Corridor, opposite the library. We welcome information from parents about your child's health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school. The College asks for medical information when you enrol your child, and it is important to let us know if your child's health care needs change, or if a new health condition develops. Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and other health care related issues (including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents. Please email the nurses (nurses@avcol.school.nz), or phone the Avondale College clinic (09) 820 1718 or (021) 847 949. This will greatly assist our school in planning how best to support your child's health and wellbeing. Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details, or those of the person nominated as an emergency contact.
PHYSIO
We also have a physio in the Health Clinic who is available to students between Monday to Friday 9am-2pm. If your child needs treatment they can make appointments in the Health Clinic waiting room. There is no charge for injury covered by ACC (ACC forms can be completed at the school Health Clinic if not already seen by a doctor). Our Physio can also treat private or non-ACC injuries as well, but there is a charge for this. Our Physio is also happy to do sports strapping before games, with a $2 charge to cover the cost of tape.

TAUREWA CAMP 2017 Year 13, Year 12 and Year 10 students have the opportunity to go to Taurewa Camp. We encourage families to start making early regular payments towards the Taurewa camp fee, as the camp fee must be fully paid prior to departure. Year 10 students will receive their first briefing for their camp approximately 10 weeks before departure, but students are encouraged to tell their parents early that their camps are coming up this year
