Any narrative of Scotch whisky must include the Scottish battles that are an important part of the country’s rich heritage. The inspiration for this highland blended scotch whisky, was the battle of Glenshiel in 1719, between the King’s redcoat army and the highland Jacobites. Named in honour of the bravery of the highland Jacobites, in what is classed as the most significant battle of the Jacobite rebellion, this scotch whisky celebrates the fighting spirit and quest for justice that is still prevalent amongst the Scottish people today. There are six distinct regions within Scotland where whisky is produced and just like wine, the location of a whisky’s production can affect its taste. This is mostly due to the different climates, soils and landscapes as well as the differing styles of equipment used. The Highlands is classed as Scotland’s largest whisky producing region. This can make the Highlands whiskies quite diverse, so it is difficult to categorise Highland whisky into a specific taste bracket. The Highlands area itself can be separated into four subregions – north, south, east and west each of which has its own taste and style. Typically highlands scotch whiskies show character flavours of malt, oak, heather, dried fruit and smoke.
