Nestled at the foothills of the Alpine National Park, the potential of this cool climate region was recognised by passionate Italian migrants back in the 1940s. Since then, the fertile soils and elevations have been effectively utilised to produce exquisite wines with a distinctive Italian influence. Central Victoria’s Heathcote produces outstanding Shiraz wines, attributed to the temperate climate and soils enriched by the surrounding Mt Camel range; while the low humidity and continental climate intrinsic to North West Victoria allows for the production of various wine styles. It is Australia’s second largest wine region.

New Zealand’s Marlborough region where Wai Hua Sauvignon Blanc is produced, has an outstanding international reputation as one of the world’s leading wine regions for Sauvignon Blanc production. There has been much global discourse on what makes this tiny region in one of the world’s smallest countries so unique for wine production, with the answer thought to lie in its climate, the knowledge and dedication of the winemakers and the proximity of the area to the Pacific Ocean. There is indeed a natural synergy between the soil of the Marlborough region and the weather patterns. Sunny days, low rainfall and ocean breezes are all in part responsible for the region’s unique Sauvignon Blanc style.

The origins of the term ‘London Dry Gin’ came from the 1800s. Historically, gin was often produced quite crudely and had to have many sweeteners added to render it palatable. Once the gin industry became quality monitored, a consistent, drier style gin was produced, typically from the London area. This dry gin became known as London Dry Gin. Today, London Dry Gin can be produced anywhere, however, to be classed as such, must be distilled with the full flavour profile achieved in the distillation process with nothing further added to enhance flavour later on. London Dry Gin can have many flavour profiles as long as it is produced according to the correct production method.

Mexican Tequila was first produced in the 16th century near the city of Tequila. Today, there are only five regions throughout Mexico where the blue agave plant is grown, the main ingredient in Los Arango tequila. Unlike some other tequilas, Los Arango is crafted from pure agave, not blended with sugar cane. The process is very dependent upon manual labour, plants are handpicked after a minimum eight-year period, slowly steamed for 30 hours, fermented, double distilled and matured. Depending upon the tequila, maturation could involve being aged in American oak barrels for up to 13 months.

Although those times have since passed, the infamous Templeton Rye Whiskey name has not. After seventy years, the iconic brand has been resurrected and has taken its place once again among the world’s great distilled spirits.
