Rumours have it that distillers would add small amounts of rye into the mash, creating an earthy aftertaste. This defining feature sparked interest and a new found following for rye flavoured whisky. Today, the terms “rye whisky” and “Canadian whisky” are used interchangeably as according to Canadian law refers to exactly the same product!
