A Skin Care Expert Weighs In: Take Care Of Your Scalp When it comes to your skin and hair care routine, it can be all too easy to forget the scalp. After time though, this neglect can take a toll on the health of your hair, according to experts.

How COVID-19 Has Changed The Way We Do Business Forever The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed how business gets done. And when it comes to midsized and small businesses, the importance of investing in new technology, facilitating remote work and maintaining a tech-savvy workforce has never been so clear, according to a new survey.

Conducted by The Harris Poll for CIT Group Inc., a leading national bank focused on empowering businesses and personal savers, the survey of leaders of U.S. middle-market and small businesses is designed to illuminate the intersection of technology and talent.

Compared to last year’s survey, significantly more leaders today believe continuous technological investment is a business requirement.

“The resiliency and flexibility that technology can deliver businesses has been convincingly proven by COVID-19,” says David Harnisch, president of CIT’s Commercial Finance division. “Business leaders have taken that lesson to heart and are focused on making technology a fundamental part of their ‘tomorrow thinking’.”

Most executives surveyed wish that they’d invested even more in technology over the past 12 months. In fact, more than three in four middle market executives believe investments in technology would have helped their company fare better during the pan-

demic. For small businesses, roughly half felt similarly.

However, there’s little question how important technology will be going forward, with the majority of respondents saying it’s crucial to future success.

Students are the greatest hope for the future, but for many, their plans are threatened due to burdens posed by COVID-19.

Budget-Building Resources For A More Resilient Tomorrow

Hispanic communities have been making vital contributions to the American cultural landscape and the national economy for decades.

The second largest ethnic or racial group in the U.S., Hispanics poured $2.6 trillion into the U.S. economy in 2018, have the purchasing power of approximately $1.7 trillion, and are the most likely among other minority groups to be entrepreneurs. However, with the ongoing pandemic, many are finding themselves struggling financially, lacking adequate access to healthcare, and worried about their children falling behind in school given the multitude of challenges presented by remote learning.

Experts agree that sound financial planning usually involves obtaining some type of insurance. Insurance provides payment due to loss of life, income, assets, or future earning potential.

Here are four types of insurance to consider including in your financial plan.

• Life insurance. Experts agree that if your family depends on your income, you should get a life insurance policy. There are a few different types of life insurance, but whole life and term life are the most common. A term policy provides coverage for a specific length of time—typically between 10 and 30 years—and is a good option for those who only need a safety net until they retire. A whole life policy provides coverage as long as the premium is paid, and is a better choice if you need life insurance

Today’s election coverage in the news channels is all about creating anger and divisions among people in this country.

If we let anger affect our decisions, the outcomes will will not be for the betterment of this great nation.

Let us remind ourselves of the following verse from Bhagavad Gita that warns us of dangers of anger.

“Anger leads to clouding of judgment, which results in bewilderment of the memory.

When the memory is bewildered, the intellect gets destroyed; and the destruction of intellect leads to ruin.”

Bhagavad-gita (2.63) America, as a democracy can only exist as long as its citizens act with maturity, and remind themselves that there are some basic ideals that cannot be compromised.

History is replete with many lessons on how great nations and societies have cracked, fissured and eventually fallen due to internal strife that elites provoke.

and now? Freedom, Prosperity and Security are the pillars of civil society.

We must be vigilant about and thwart the destructive forces that weaken those pillars and compromise our ability to stand up as a nation.

We must remain alert when we see big corporations silently watch powerful communist regimes curtail basic freedoms of its citizens, but complain about lack of freedoms here when our President wants to enforce our laws passed by Congress.

We cannot be swayed by the elites that question the necessity of this country to secure its border, while comfortably living in secure gated communities themselves.

We must not become blindsided when they passionately argue the need to cripple the Police departments of much needed funds while turning a blind eye to the rising crimes that plague the nation’s weakest neighborhoods.

When we see more and more Americans not being able to keep up with the rising cost of living, falling incomes and the increasing insecurity of their jobs, and how low income groups are pushed to homelessness right in our backyard, we must be bold enough to ask basic questions like: whether our country is in position to be inviting more people from outside to come and live here.

I urge my fellow Americans to question agenda laden discourses that are pushed as popular narratives in this country.

At the end of the day, we must care for our fellow citizens and their basic needs first.

We must vote on our values!

How To Give Out Halloween Candy Safely During Pandemic

By Sumaiya Malik There is no perfect way to dole out candy on Halloween on October 31 during Covid-19 pandemic, as there is a risk of disease transmission in the process.

Parents certainly don’t want neighbors to open their doors to everyone. Neither do they want to let their kids knock on every door in the neighborhood, but they do want their children to experience the annual tradition in a safe way.

We scoured online and asked people for suggestions. Here is what we put together for you.

1. Have candy grams in small Ziploc bags ready and on a table outside. Place each bag a few inches

away from the other so that the children who stop by just pick up their own in a socially distant way.

I like to put the food in the boxes because we do it in an organized fashion, but my favorite part is seeing the happy faces of the frontline workers when we deliver the food. We know there will be many more lunch drives to come.

Since 2019, we have cleaned Ranch Trails Park with the guid-

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the students of the University of Texas and senior citizens could not get their groceries due to a lack of driving and social distancing.

At the time, HSS volunteers took an initiative to help them rise out of this struggle.

The volunteers themselves went and brought the groceries and provided a door delivery.

In total, there were over 400 pounds of groceries delivered.

During this terrifying pandemic of COVID-19, the Austin HSS team has commenced lunch drives to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, police stations, homeless centers, and the trash collectors.

HSS also thinks health, fitness, and stress relief is mandatory for families during this pandemic, hence we planned free yoga classes early in the morning.

In the lead-up to Diwali, celebrants will prepare by cleaning, renovating, and decorating their homes and workplaces with diyas and rangoli. During the Diwali people wear their finest clothes, illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes with diyas and rangoli (oil lamps or candles), offer puja (worship) to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and wealth,light fireworks, and partake in family feasts, where mithai and gifts are shared.

Diwali is also a major cultural event for the Hindu and Jain diaspora from the Indian subcontinent.

Families can come together and relax their bodies and minds. More than 25 families are regularly coming to these yoga sessions. Women are especially pleased with these courses.

The five-day long festival originated in the Indian subcontinent and is mentioned in early Sanskrit texts. Diwali is usually celebrated twenty days after the Dashera (Dasara, Dasain) festival, with Dhanteras, or the regional equivalent, marking the first day of the festival when celebrants prepare by cleaning their homes and making decorations on the floor, such as rangoli.

They have experienced a loss of stress and joint pain. This program has been going on for the last six months and you too can join these yoga classes at no cost to you.

The second day is Naraka Chaturdashi, or the regional equivalent which for Hindus in the south of India is Diwali proper. Western, central, eastern and northern Indian communities observe main day of Diwali on the third day, the day of Lakshmi Puja and the darkest night of the traditional month.

We also work with sister organizations like Sewa International and helped establish an Austin based helpline to community people to provide logistics, health, food, and travel related common questions.

In some parts of India, the day after Lakshmi Puja is marked with the Govardhan Puja and Balipratipada (Padwa), which is dedicated to the relationship between wife and husband.

At the back of the book, there is a glossary of terms to learn a few Hindi words. The author also explains the five days of Diwali and her own experience of the celebration of the festival in India. Service Learning Gives Students Purpose And Connection In Quarantine

Austin Parks & Recreation Dept Communications & Engagement Office The Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) will begin accepting applications for the Artist Access Program’s 2022 season on Thursday, October 2, 2020.

The deadline to submit an application is December 18, 2020 at 6pm.

The Artist Access Program provides free or low-cost rehearsal and production spaces to both emerging and established performance artists from the Austin area. Created to address the needs of local artists, participating organizations collaborate with the City of Austin’s Cultural Centers to produce professional performances for both local and visiting audiences.

Participating artists and arts organizations are able to take advantage of expanded rehearsal hours and the opportunity to produce public performances in a space for free or at a reduced rental fee of $1 per ticket sold.

Additional benefits include marketing resources, assistance with

event planning, and additional support from PARD’s arts staff.

The fading tradition has come to the forefront this year with more people specially youngsters at home.

During Dussehra festival Bommala Koluvu is very popular among Telugu families for generations. It is an exhibition of dolls and decorative pieces in a step like formation. Mostly women among the Kamma community observe Bommala Koluvu from the first day of

This time the voting pattern has been tweaked in many states due to pandemic and it looks like as most pundits are predicting that we may not have the results on November 3rd unlike other election years.

This would be daunting on all of us as we would be stressed out with all kinds of anxiety coming from all sides.

The news channels which ever we are addicted to would be meting out the information and we get hooked on to it. How do we go about our day to day routine in such a critical situation?

The best way would be to stay calm and not to react to any news that is coming out from various sources until we have the decisive results on hand.

There is a democratic process and we need to trust that the system has been laid in place to protect democracy at all costs and so we are going to get through this moment too.

Staying calm and not getting worried over a situation which is not a reality is the key to being mindful. I know it is easy to say but difficult to practice.

My suggestion is to be in the moment and do not get stressed out with overthinking and that which is not in our hands. Stay calm and we shall as a nation would triumph because we shall pass this moment too.
