Promote Happiness With This Mother’s Day Gift Guide
Sometimes, it’s the little things in life that can make one’s day. Use this Mother’s Day gift guide to promote happiness in your mom’s life:
Better Mornings
Coffee and tea have been scientifically proven to boost happiness. But if your mom is like many moms out there, she may get so busy taking care of others she forgets to drink her beverage before it gets cold. What if she could enjoy her coffee or tea from the first sip to the last at just the right temperature? Nextmug, a temperature-controlled, self-heating mug, stylishly maintains an individual’s beverage at their ideal temperature -- 130, 140 or 150 degrees Fahrenheit -for hours. The stainless-steel body of the mug has an elegant ceramic matte finish in a range of gorgeous colors like burgundy, dusty rose and pistachio. At 17 ounces, the ergonomically designed body and handle will fit comfortably in her hands, making it a happinessinducing sidekick for her days,
whether they take place at home or in the workplace. And with no setting up an app, no passwords or rebooting and no security concerns it’s incredibly easy to use. To learn more, visit nextmug.com.
Endorphin Boost
Did you know that exercise is one of the best ways to promote happiness? Not only can it be a major confidence booster, it releases endorphins that offer a post-workout bliss. However, many people new to exercise don’t know how to start working out or have questions about doing so safely. If your mom is one of those people, consider gifting her
a session with a personal trainer. In one session, the trainer can assess your mom’s current level of fitness and offer her a sensible routine to do on her own. Or, if your mom is social or loves variety, consider getting her a fitness membership to a service like ClassPass. This will allow her to take various types of fitness classes so she can see what style of workout she likes best.
Happy Faces on Rotation
Sometimes all one needs to smile is a reminder of a happy memory. Upgrade your mom’s photo display game with a digital frame so she can be treated to a slideshow of loved ones anytime she wants. With a model that connects to Wi-Fi, she can easily send photos to the frame through email or via online photo collections. As a thoughtful gesture, consider pre-loading it with some of her favorite family photos.
This Mother’s Day, honor your mom with thoughtful and fun gifts that will promote her happiness. (StatePoint)

2 Changes You May Notice At Your Next Dentist Appointment
Practices in oral and overall health care continually advance to keep you well. Here are two changes affecting dental care you might notice at your next visit.
1. Updated recommendations for dental X-rays. In the past, when your dentist took X-rays of your teeth, you probably wore a leaded apron or thyroid collar. That may change with your next visit.
According to 2024 safety recommendations by an expert panel of dentists at the American Dental Association (ADA), abdominal and thyroid shielding is no longer needed for patients of all ages and health statuses (like pregnancy). These tools can block the main X-ray beam. When this happens, additional X-rays may be needed, something your dentist wants to avoid.
To get the best images of your teeth, your dentist or dental team will make sure you are properly positioned for your X-rays and that the beam is focused on the area of interest. Shielding may still be
used in some practices due to local regulations, so ask your dentist if you have any questions about Xrays.
ADA experts also recommend that X-rays be taken only when your dentist believes they will provide the necessary diagnostic information to help you reach your best dental health.
Dental X-rays emit very low doses of radiation, which makes the risk of experiencing potentially harmful effects very small. Still, taking X-rays in moderation lessens radia-
tion exposure.
2. New guidelines to manage dental pain. If you see your dentist for a tooth extraction, recent guidelines endorsed by the ADA recommend that you be prescribed a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as ibuprofen or naproxen to manage short-term dental pain.
When used as directed, on their own or in combination with acetaminophen, NSAIDs are an appropriate and effective way to manage the inflammatory pain that comes
after a tooth extraction or during a toothache when dental care is not immediately available. This guidance applies to patients of every age.
In the unlikely event that your pain does not improve after the second or third day following your procedure, return to your dentist to rule out complications or other sources of pain.
In limited circumstances, an opioid prescription may be appropriate for patients 12 and older, though dentists should use extreme caution when prescribing opioids to those 12 to 17-years-old. When discussing options to treat your dental pain, inform your dentist of your history with opioids and any factors that may contribute to dependence on or misuse of such medication.
If your dentist prescribes opioids
for pain management, the guidelines recommend that you be given the lowest effective dose, with the fewest tablets and for a short period. “Just in case” prescriptions are not recommended, and your dentist should instruct you on the proper storage and disposal of the medication.
To search for an ADA dentist in your area, visit findadentist.ada. org. Learn more about caring for your smile at MouthHealthy.org, the ADA’s website for oral health education.
Oral health guidelines change over time with advancements in technology and data regarding best practices to enhance patient safety and well-being. With any change, your dentist’s priority remains the same: to provide you with the best dental care possible. Talk to your dentist if you have any questions about the latest recommendations in oral health. (StatePoint)
Preserve Your Natural Teeth With These Tips
May is Save Your Tooth Month, an annual celebration of tooth-saving procedures and the endodontists responsible for saving teeth. It’s also an important reminder that while having a tooth pulled may seem like the easiest option when you have tooth pain from an infection or disease, saving your natural teeth is best.
According to the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), a missing tooth can impact your quality of life and self-confidence, cause other teeth to shift, affect your ability to chew properly, and lead to more problems down the road — and a lot more cost. Tooth extraction is often more painful than the infection itself, and replacing an extracted tooth with an artificial one requires additional dental visits that can quickly add up.
“Modern endodontics offers advancements in technologies, procedures and materials, giving you many treatment options to save
your natural teeth. It’s important to understand your choices and how they’ll impact both your tooth and your future dental
health,” says Dr. Natasha M. Flake, president of the AAE. Unfortunately, there are a lot of
misconceptions about what to do when you are experiencing tooth pain or infection. That’s why the AAE is offering these teeth-saving tips:
• While the phrase “I’d rather have a root canal” may be meant as a joke, it’s actually good advice. When given a choice between tooth extraction and root canal treatment, always opt for a root canal. Not only is root canal treatment from an endodontist virtually painless, no denture, bridge or implant will look, feel and function as well as a natural tooth. In short, the beginning of a root canal procedure means the end of tooth pain.
• Act immediately when you experience symptoms of swelling or pain. Most endodontists can accommodate emergency cases, even on weekends, ensuring you’ll be seen quickly.
• If your dentist recommends tooth extraction, ask whether having a root canal is an option.
• If you’re told a root canal is not an option, ask why and request a referral to an endodontist, or use the AAE’s Find My Endodontist search tool at findmyendodontist. com to find a practice near you. Endodontists are specialists in saving teeth. They can evaluate your condition and provide the best treatment plan to help you save your teeth for a lifetime.
“In a disposable era, some things are worth preserving. It’s always best to retain your natural teeth whenever possible and endodontic treatment, which helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work, should be your first choice for the best health and cosmetic results,” says Dr. Flake. How To Create Flyers, Invitations, Videos And More With Generative AI
Whether it’s designing an e-invitation for a baby shower, trimming down your marketing video, or creating a social media post to share with friends and followers, you’re likely creating content for work and personal reasons on a regular basis. Now, thanks to an emerging technology called generative AI (or GenAI), — a type of artificial intelligence that can perform all kinds of jobs from simple text prompts — it’s easy for anyone to create professional-looking content.
“There’s never been a more exciting time to create. We’re living in a world where anyone can make stand-out content at the speed of their imagination simply by describing it in a few words,” said Govind Balakrishnan, senior vice president, Adobe Express and Digital Media Services, Adobe.
While generative AI is still new, services like ChatGPT are already helping millions find new and valuable ways to use it. For example, one of the top ways people are using generative AI is creating and editing content, according to a new study published in “Harvard Business Review.”
Adobe Express, the free all-in-one AI content creation app and ChatGPT have teamed
up to make it easy to start making pro-quality content – even if you have little or no design experience. All you need to get started is an idea and your own words.
If you’re a ChatGPT Plus user, you can go to “Explore GPTs” and click on “Adobe Ex-

If you aren’t a ChatGPT Plus user – you can go straight to Adobe Express by visiting adobe.com/express to start creating content today. You can choose from thousands of stock photos, images, videos, and music clips – as well as fonts – to help your content stand out from the crowd.
Generative AI features allow you to do things that only professionals were once able to do. With Text to Image, you can just describe the image you want to create. For example, type in: “beautiful cake decorated with light pink frosting, confetti,” and the generative AI will return several options for an image for a birthday invitation.
With Generative Fill, you can remove, add or replace objects and backgrounds – it’s even great if you need to remove a stranger who accidentally made it in the background of a family photo.
Technology is also making it easy for everyone to create video content. With tools like Adobe Express, you can trim, resize, merge, and crop your family holiday videos with just a few clicks, or choose professional video footage to create a short social ad to drum up business for your side gig.
Like all new technologies, generative AI has a lot of benefits – and some things to watch out for. So, take time to check out how these new tools were created. All Adobe generative AI is designed in alignment with the company’s AI ethics principles of accountability, responsibility and transparency, and its creative generative AI model, Firefly, was built to be commercially safe and respect artists’ rights.
With the right tools and a few good ideas, anyone can create beautiful stand-out content with generative AI – all you do to get started is type a simple request. (StatePoint)
How To Erase Negative Self-Talk and Feel Better
It’s been four years since the collective trauma of the pandemic created widespread grief, anxiety and isolation, but the psychological wounds of this period have not fully healed.
The American Psychological Association reports continued elevated rates of anxiety and depression among Americans, and mental health experts say that negative self-talk plays a large role in these conditions and other psychological issues. The good news? Individuals can work on subtracting a harmful inner monologue from the equation.
“Simple tools can help people break the cycle of negative self-talk and find some inner peace,” says Elizabeth Scott, PhD, a wellness coach, health educator and author of “8 Keys to Stress Management.”
That’s why Pilot Corporation of America (Pilot Pen) is supporting the Erase SelfNegativity Initiative in partnership with key mental health and wellness experts, including Dr. Scott, and with guidance from America’s largest grassroots mental health organization, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
As part of the initiative, Dr. Scott and NAMI have created a guided exercise to help individuals begin their journey toward erasing

Dr. Scott stresses that similar to maintaining physical health, consistency is key with mental health. This is why every April 10 will be recognized as National Erase Self-Negativity Day and the initiative will use the 10th of each month, as a day to start or revisit the writing exercise and reflect on personal progress.
Here’s what’s needed to get started:
1. A quiet, restful location,
2. A desire to create change
3. Paper
4. A FriXion erasable pen, which offers more than just the ability to write and erase completely; but also symbolizes the power individuals have to change things and write more positivity into their story.
The Erase Self-Negativity Worksheet can be found by visiting eraseselfnegativity.com. For additional resources to understand how common, and treatable mental health issues can be, visit nami.org.
“While we can’t control the negative messages we might receive from the outside world, we can work on what we tell ourselves. With just a few minutes of quiet time, we can harness the transformative power of writing in a way that will challenge the damaging assumptions we hold about ourselves and foster more self-compassion,” says Dr. Scott. Backpacks Of Hope: Shaping Brighter Futures
By Gulshan Singh
Highlighting the power of community generosity, BMBB 2024 showcased inspiring stories of resilience and the profound impact of supporting educational needs in the Austin area.
Since its first showcase in 2013, the Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt (BMBB) event has stood as a testament to the incredible and enduring impact of the unique partnership between the Jewish and Hindu communities in Austin. This family-friendly, cultural extravaganza organized by event partners Shalom Austin and HC4A, has successfully united communities through a shared goal of making a significant difference.
On April 21, 2021, this event was made extra special as they were joined by the African American Youth Harvest Foundation to make it a truly multicultural celebration, reflecting the diverse fabric of Austin itself. Together, they aimed to further bridge community gaps and amplify their collective impact on social causes, particularly in education.
This year’s initiative focused on supporting over 1,600 children by raising $50,000 to provide essential school supplies, demonstrating the power of unity and generosity across different cultures and communities. Through this collaborative effort, BMBB not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of each group but also reinforced their commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of Austin’s children, fostering an environment of inclusion, support, and mutual respect.
The fundraising segment of the recent event was a heartwarming testament to the power of community and the incredible difference collective action can make in the lives of many. Kicking off this segment were powerful stories from individuals whose lives have been dramatically changed through acts of generosity and service.
Will Williams, Founder of ShareTheWill Foundation for veterans and their families, is a name now synonymous with selflessness and dedication. He shared his life story, once marred by the challenges of a foster system but beautifully transformed by the love and support of his adoptive family and later, his 26 years of active service in the U.S. Army. His narrative wasn’t just a tale of overcoming adversity; it was a call to action, urging others to extend a hand in support of those in need, echoing the ethos of ShareTheWill’s mission. He was joined by another hero and Korea war veteran, and the attendees were
moved by their support to the cause. Following this powerful start, a local family, beneficiaries of the school supplies drive coordinated by Hindu Charities for America (HC4A), took the stage. Their testimony shed light on the practical impact of the donations, highlighting Manor ISD’s receipt of these essential supplies.
Their gratitude was palpable, and their message clear: every contribution helps ease the educational journey of a child, affirming the worth and potential of each student. This segment beautifully illustrated the direct im-
pact of giving, making it a poignant reminder of the significant role community support plays in shaping brighter futures.
The event also featured performances that stirred the soul and captivated the audience, from African American Youth Harvest Foundation’s soulful songs and R&B tunes to Monsoon Dance’s enchanting Bollywood numbers, and David from Shalom Austin’s contemporary Jewish music.
Guest speakers lent their voices to the cause, including Council Member Alison
Alter, Rabbi Daniel A. Septimus, and Manor ISD Superintendent, Dr. Robert Sormani, each sharing insights from their vast experiences and echoing the evening’s theme of community service and education support. Their talks highlighted their commitment to enhancing the community’s welfare, from advocating for child care and school funding to leading with a vision of holistic learning and educational excellence.
Anita Singh and Nupur Sharma took the helm as emcees at the event, bringing a dynamic blend of style, humor, and empowerment to the stage. Their engaging presence and insightful storytelling enriched the experience, making it a fun and memorable occasion for all in attendance. This event not only celebrated the generous spirit of the Austin community but also reinforced the importance of continued support for school districts like Austin, Manor, Bastrop, Del Valle, and Houston.
Through collaborations with organizations like HC4A, Shalom Austin, AAYHF, area ISDs, and ShareTheWill Foundation, it’s clear that together, we can equip the next generation with the tools they need for success, fostering a cycle of giving and gratitude that enriches us all.

Help Keep Kids Safe From Lithium Coin Batteries
About 7,000 children in the United States visit emergency rooms for battery-related injuries each year, according to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System.
Lithium coin batteries, those small, disc-shaped batteries about the size of a nickel, are particularly dangerous. The exact right size to get lodged in a child’s throat if accidentally swallowed, they can turn deadly, burning a hole in an esophagus in as little as two hours. And, they’re everywhere – in key fobs, key finders, flameless candles, remote controls, thermometers and many common home devices.
Despite parents’ thirst for knowledge on how to keep their children safe, the potential dangers of lithium coin batteries are not widely discussed. It’s no surprise then that 55% of parents with children ages 6 and under don’t realize that lithium coin batteries are more dangerous than button batteries – in fact 45% think there is no difference. That’s according to a 2023 Duracell survey conducted
by Wakefield Research. This is why the brand is reminding parents that when it comes to lithium coin batteries, #BitterIsBetter.
As part of the #BitterisBetter campaign, Duracell is sharing these simple tips to help keep you and your family safe:
• One in 4 parents with kids aged 6 and under don’t know how many
devices in their homes require lithium coin batteries to operate. Do a survey of your devices, and move those that contain lithium coin batteries away from and outof-reach of children. Examples of common devices include flameless LED tealight candles, key fobs and thermometers.
• Get down to your child’s eye level to see what they see. Look for loose
lithium coin batteries in couch cushions, on low tables and shelves or any other areas that a child can reach.
• Inspect devices and secure lithium coin battery compartments by tightening the screws or securing them with tape for an extra layer of protection.
• Keep all new lithium coin batteries in a secure compartment, up high and out of children’s reach. Remove expired batteries from devices, and place them away safely out of reach of children until you can recycle them properly.
• Power your devices with batteries that have child safety features. When it comes to lithium coin batteries, Duracell offers a non-toxic bitter coating that helps discourage children from accidentally swallowing them. Look for the “Bit-
ter Taste” icon on the packaging. The batteries also come in childsecure packaging, which is nearly impossible to open without scissors, making sure little hands, and mouths, cannot access them.
• Keep a watchful eye. Toddlers and young children are curious by nature so close supervision is key.
• If you suspect that your child has ingested a lithium coin battery, act fast. Take them immediately to an emergency room. If you aren’t able to drive, call 911 for help.
• Team up with friends and family to spread this information.

Stemming The Effects Of Early Childhood Homelessness
Between birth and age 3, a child’s brain makes 1 million neural connections per second. Tragically, an increasing number of infants and toddlers go through this crucial developmental period without a home – an experience with long-term consequences to their health, development and future.
A new report released by the non-profit SchoolHouse Connection represents the most comprehensive look to date at homelessness among infants and toddlers, and provides recommendations for state and federal action to address the issue.
SchoolHouse Connection is a member of the National Collaborative for Infants & Toddlers (NCIT), an advocacy movement committed to ensuring that every child prenatal to 3 and their families have what they need to thrive.
This report analyzes federal and other available data to estimate how many infants and toddlers experienced homelessness in 2021, both nationally and in each state; the percentage of these infants and toddlers enrolled in age-eligible early childhood development programs during the 2021-2022
program year; and the extent to which state policies remove barriers to programs and
services for families experiencing homelessness.
The report estimates that nationwide, nearly 365,000 infants and toddlers experienced homelessness during the 2021-2022 program year, and alarmingly, only 11% of these children were enrolled in early childhood development programs, with enrollment rates varying significantly by state. In some states, that figure was as low as 3.5%.
“Early childhood development programs offer support for infants, toddlers and families
who are homeless ranging from essential supplies like diapers and hygiene products, to services that counter the impact of homelessness on child development,” says Erin Patterson, director of Education Initiatives of SchoolHouse Connection.
“These programs also facilitate vital connections to housing solutions. We must ensure that every expectant parent, infant and toddler experiencing homelessness receives access to these essential services.”
Unfortunately, many barriers persist to connecting families with programming, including simply recognizing who is in need.
Lack of shelter, fear of having children removed from parental custody, and restrictive eligibility criteria for housing programs mean that most families experiencing homelessness stay in places that are not easily identified, such as in cars, motels or with other people, making this crisis largely a hidden one.
Melicia C. Whitt-Glover, Ph.D. executive director, Council on Black Health, a member of the NCIT, says “By giving practitioners and policymakers an unprecedented look at a hidden crisis, it’s our hope they will take action that will protect children during the most crucial developmental period of their life.”
While all states have the opportunity through Child Care Development Fund provisions and other initiatives to provide expanded programming access, few take full advantage of the flexibilities offered:
• Only 26 states waive copayments for families experiencing homelessness;
• Only nine states offer work requirement exemptions to parents experiencing homelessness;
• Only 18 states provide automatic or streamlined eligibility for children experiencing homelessness to access child care programs.
The report concludes with a ray of hope and a call to action, offering specific policy recommendations at the national, state and local levels to stem the effects of early childhood homelessness, including:
• Increasing support for early childhood programs.
• Making children experiencing homelessness categorically eligible and prioritized for child care services.
• Increasing safe, affordable housing options and removing barriers to homeless and housing assistance.
• Implementing policies that will prevent families from experiencing homelessness in the first place.
To read the full report and more on the policy solutions, visit schoolhouseconnection.org.
“There’s a clear, well-documented connection between housing and health. Infants’ and toddlers’ brains are rapidly developing, making them especially vulnerable to the negative consequences of homelessness,” says Dr. Sheri Johnson, director of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and principal investigator for County Health Rankings & Roadmaps.
“We can solve this. Evidence shows that programs such as Early Head Start, the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit help ensure parents have what they need to care for their families.” (StatePoint)

What Parents Need To Know About Climate Change And Children’s Health
Excessive heat. Emerging diseases. Severe storms and off-season illnesses. The environmental hazards associated with climate change threaten the physical and mental health of children and families — and can be a source of anxiety. It’s not just speculation. Communities are already impacted by such climate change effects as heat illness from dangerous temperatures, asthma hospitalizations from earlier and more severe pollen seasons, and trauma from severe wildfires and storms.
“When we talk with parents about what’s good for their kids, part of our job is connecting the dots between our changing climate and their children’s health,” said Dr. Samantha Ahdoot, a pediatrician. “All children need exercise, nutritious food and stable communities to thrive. But climate change poses new challenges for our patients, from struggling to breathe due to
wildfire smoke to flooded homes from extreme rainfall events to extreme heat. When we talk about the need to heal the planet, we are also

Board of Directors for 2024. The AAP is recommending steps not only for communities and policy makers, but for families. As we celebrate Earth Day on April 22, here are a few suggestions:
• Help your community adopt climate solutions. The AAP recommends a transition away from fossil fuels and toward clean, renewable energy like wind, solar and geothermal. Join forces with a local group to help bring clean energy to your school, town, state or even country. The AAP also recommends that communities incorporate healthy transportation systems, including public transit and walkable, bikeable pathways that allow children to be outdoors and active. Families can get involved at the local level to help create safe routes to walk and bike where you live.

To ensure fair elections, the Election Commission has deployed numerous surveillance teams, including flying squads, static surveillance teams, and video surveillance teams. Inter-state and international border checkpoints are closely monitored to prevent illegal activities like the flow of liquor, drugs, cash, and freebies. Additionally, provisions for basic amenities, particularly drinking water, have been directed for voters considering the prevailing heat conditions.” (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)
some of our most effective and powerful climate advocates today are children and youth. Support their engagement in local, state and national climate solutions.
• Reduce your own energy consumption and waste. Walking, biking, taking public transit, carpooling, and adopting a more plant-forward diet are all ways to help promote health for kids and the planet.
• Show them you care. Let kids know that their adult caregivers—parents and pediatricians included—are committed to climate action solutions that protect their health and their world.
More information is available at HealthyChildren.org.
• Let kids know that their voices and advocacy can be powerful. Kids may be inspired to know that
“What is healthy for the planet is also healthy for children,” Dr. Ahdoot said. “Pediatricians and parents share the same goal—to protect children’s health today, and ensure that they have a healthy future in adulthood. Protecting our planet helps preserve a healthy world that can provide all children the nutrition, play, and community stability that they need to thrive.” (StatePoint)

How To Keep Feet And Ankles In Tip Top Shape This Summer
Summer fun and chores alike come with potential hazards to feet. According to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, here’s how to protect feet and ankles from the most common seasonal hazards:
Be DIY Safe
DIY projects like power washing, roofing and decking require ramped up safety measures. Always wear closed-toed shoes with traction to prevent injuries, splinters, puncture wounds and falls. Mowing can be particularly hazardous. The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission estimates more than 37,000 Americans suffer a power mower-related injury annually.
“Lawnmower blades whirl at 3,000 revolutions per minute. Yet we see patients who’ve been hurt operating a mower barefoot,” said Matthew Dairman, DPM, FACFAS,
a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and a Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). “Foot injuries range from dirty, infection-prone lacerations to severed tendons to amputated toes. People
To avoid becoming a statistic, follow these sensible guidelines:
• Don’t mow a wet lawn. Losing control from slipping on rainsoaked grass is the leading cause of foot injuries caused by power mowers.
need to take lawn mowing safety seriously because the injuries can, indeed, be very serious.”
• Wear heavy shoes or work boots—no sneakers or sandals.
• Never pull a running mower backward.
• Keep the clip bag attached during operation to prevent projectile injuries.
• Use a mower with a release mechanism that automatically shuts it off when hands let go.
• Always keep children away during mowing.
• If an accident occurs, even a minor one, consult a foot and ankle surgeon right away.
Wear Sunscreen
Many people skip their feet when applying sunscreen, but did you know that the skin on your feet is highly susceptible to melanoma? In fact, it’s the most diagnosed and fatal site of this form of skin cancer. Other types of skin cancer can also be found on the foot, including squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma. To keep your feet safe this summer:
• Lather up with sunscreen from head to toe—literally.
Extend Living Spaces Outdoors This Summer Using Manufactured Stone
The summer is the perfect time to get inspired to extend your living spaces outdoors, and manufactured stone veneer is one material that can help you do so affordably, quickly and with style.
As versatile as nature itself, this striking design feature can be customized by cut, stone type, color and grouting to be uniquely yours. Here are just a few project ideas incorporating manufactured stone that will elevate your outdoor spaces:
1. Love entertaining in the open air? Make it a year-round proposition with an outdoor kitchen complete with prep space, a built-in grill and oven, and of course manufactured stone veneer trimming.
2. Create a traditional campfirestyle fire pit or build a raised fire table with space for beverages and snacks, for an instant room-like feel.
3. Give your patio the hygge factor with a cozy outdoor fireplace.
4. Build an elegant privacy wall for your hot tub or swimming pool.
5. Promote tranquility in your garden with a water feature, such as a koi pond or bird bath.
8. Make chore time more appealing by beautifying outbuildings like sheds and workshops.
6. Replace wooden fencing around the perimeter of your yard with walls made of manufactured stone. You can also use this material for retaining walls or as a border between sections of your property.
7. Create one-of-a-kind seating in gathering spots, such as the gazebo or portico.
Tip: For a beautiful and safe installation, it’s helpful to work with a professional contractor. They can also ensure your project is in compliance with local building codes.
Before getting your projects started, be sure your manufactured stone veneer looks and feels like the real thing. Manufacturers like ProVia are setting the bar high, handcrafting their products to capture the beauty of real stone. Their design process doesn’t start with computer modeling – instead, real quarried stones are used to create
• Check your feet and toes regularly for abnormal looking moles or freckles, even under toenails and on your soles. Promptly schedule an appointment with your foot and ankle surgeon to have suspicious marks examined.
• Schedule routine exams so your foot and ankle surgeon can track suspicious, changing marks. Early detection is key.
Limit Flimsy Footwear
casts to build molds, and trained stone masons ensure the contours and varying hues of natural stone are replicated to give the manufactured stones authentic depth, texture and color.
Stone profiles range from the rounded corners and smooth surfaces of river rock to the irregular, imperfect randomness of glacial fieldstone. Whether you select a stone profile that complements your home’s architectural style, your geographic region or your unique aesthetic, you have additional options to consider.
You’ll also have the opportunity to select the colors of your stones, and the grout color, which can be used to intensify or soften the overall look of your project. For design inspiration, including exterior cladding, and a range of interior applications, from accent walls to fireplaces, visit provia.com/stone.
This summer, transform your outdoor areas into beautiful livable spaces you can enjoy this season, and beyond. (StatePoint)
While it’s nice to let feet breathe in flip flops and they’re a great choice for locker rooms and pools to avoid fungus and athlete’s foot, they shouldn’t be your main footwear of choice all summer. Flip flops lack arch support and stability, so wearing them too often can cause stress on the plantar fascia— the band of tissue extending from the heel to the base of the toes. This can result in plantar fasciitis, causing heel pain upon getting up in the morning and after inactivity. To avoid developing issues, which can take a long time to treat and subside, consider wearing structured sandals with proper shock absorption and arch support. If you can’t live without flip flops, wear them sparingly to keep your feet in good shape. And if you’ll be traveling, pack tennis shoes for sightseeing, hikes and other weight-bearing activities.
Be Mindful of Diabetes
People living with diabetes should never go barefoot, because their nervous system may not “feel” an injury and their circulatory system will struggle to heal breaks in the skin. “Most patients living with diabetes know they shouldn’t walk barefoot but can be more inclined to disregard this precaution in summer. However third-degree burns on the soles of feet can occur in a matter of minutes,” says Dr. Dairman.
This summer, be smart. Take care of your feet so they take care of you. If you suffer a foot and ankle injury this summer, visit FootHealthFacts.org for valuable foot and ankle health information and to find a physician near you. (StatePoint)

Why Summer Is The Best Time To Take Your Child To An Orthodontist
Barbecues, beaches and braces?
Summertime may not typically be associated with orthodontics, but according to experts, it’s a great time of year to start orthodontic treatment and help kids enter a new school year with a confident smile.
“Braces can be a very exciting step, but like with anything new, there will be a short adjustment period as a child adapts to changes to their routine, as well as to the feel of aligners or brackets and wires in their mouth,” says Dr. Vijay Bhagia of Space City Orthodontics, a board-certified orthodontist who has been practicing for over 20 years. “That’s why we recommend parents bring their kids into our offices in summer, when schedules are more relaxed and they have more time to adjust to the change of pace.”
Whether you’re considering orthodontic treatment for your child, your teen or yourself, these insights from Smile Doctors, a national net-
work of leading orthodontists, can help:
Is orthodontic treatment really necessary? Straightening teeth through orthodontics is not just cosmetic. Poorly aligned teeth can affect the way one speaks, bites and chews and even breathes. An important part of oral health, braces can correct bite issues, gaps and crooked, crowded or overlapping teeth.
When should my child see an orthodontist? Orthodontics is for people of all ages – even adults.
However, it might be surprising to learn that the American Association of Orthodontics recommends children see an orthodontist by age 7. This is because orthodontists are uniquely trained to evaluate children’s growth, as well as the exchange of baby teeth for permanent teeth, and can help you get ahead of potential issues as adult teeth continue to come in.
How do I get my teen on board with the plan? Teens now have more braces options than ever. From traditional braces with fun colors, to clear aligners like Invisalign, braces can help them express their personality. Of course, it also helps to
remind teenagers that when they’re done with treatment, they’ll have a healthy smile.
How do I know which braces are right for me or my child? There are several types of orthodontic treatments. Metal braces use a combination of stainless-steel brackets, arch wires and elastic ties or bands to gently move teeth as prescribed. Ceramic braces are tooth-colored or clear brackets made of ceramic, porcelain, or plastic. Clear aligners like Invisalign are a removable and discreet orthodontic treatment consisting of a series of aligners worn for 1-2 weeks at a time. Some orthodontists, including those within the Smile Doctors network, will provide a free consultation to discuss affordability and treatment options that best suit your needs.
What steps should we take between visits? Have your child brush around each bracket and floss between each tooth right after eating to avoid permanent white
marks, cavities, or gum disease. Doing so prevents the acidity and sugars from settling into the crevices in between the brackets. Opt for mouthwash without blue or red dyes for further cavity protection.
Do braces hurt? There is sometimes mild discomfort during treatment, but it’s manageable with over-thecounter pain relievers. To reduce swelling, try rinsing with warm salt water. For bracket pain, your orthodontist will usually give you dental wax and show you how to apply it. You can also avoid some discomfort by sticking with softer foods at first.
Smile Doctors has more than 430 affiliated locations in 29 states and is the largest Invisalign provider in the world. To find a leading orthodontist near you, visit smiledoctors.com. Use the downtime of summer wisely this year. Put your child on the path toward a healthy, confident smile that will last a lifetime.(StatePoint)
In-Demand Careers Every New College Grad Should Know About
So you’ve recently graduated college. The summer ahead is the perfect time to consider a career as a financial planner. At a time when new research reveals that more than half of four-year college graduates are underemployed a year after they graduate, the financial planning industry is booming.
To give yourself a competitive edge when you’re just starting out, consider earning your CFP® certification. CFP® certification is the standard in financial planning and paves the way for an exceptional career.
Here’s what you need to know about a career as a financial advisor with CFP® certification, also known as a CFP® professional:
• You can gain financial stability: When you’re young, it’s important to pay down any student debt and begin saving for the future as early as possible. That’s difficult to do in industries with low starting wages. While financial planning salaries vary, you can expect to earn $50-
70K as a starting point. And there’s a lot of room for growth — experienced financial advisors earn $192,000 on average.
rate of 13% through 2032.
• You’ll use a wide range of skills: Financial planning isn’t just numbers and math. The job requires great communication skills and
• You’ll enjoy job security: Many industries are experiencing widespread layoffs and instability, but financial planning is a career path offering job security and growth. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for financial advisors will grow quickly, at a
a high level of emotional intelligence to guide clients through the psychology behind their money management.
• You can forge your own path: Financial advising is not a one-size-
fits-all career path. You can choose to specialize in a particular area of finance or take a holistic approach to your clients’ needs. Where you work is also up to you — you might work at a nationally known financial services firm, a small local firm or even a bank or credit union. Because of the commitment to professional excellence and high ethical standards it demonstrates, gaining your CFP® certification will unlock even more career opportunities. Many CFP® professionals even start their own business early in their careers.
• You’ll be helping others: CFP® professionals build trusted relationships with their clients, helping people achieve their life goals, whether that’s buying a home, paying for their children’s college educations or preparing for retirement.
• You can design your own schedule: After four years of scheduling classes to suit your needs, the idea of rigid working hours may not be appealing. Fortunately, financial advising can come with schedul-
ing flexibility and a good work-life balance.
• You’ll find support along the way: As you work toward CFP® certification, you’ll have many opportunities for ongoing support. An online candidate forum offers opportunities to connect with others on their path to certification. Other resources include a progress tracker, exam preparation tools, financial aid and three mentorship cycles a year that align with the exams offered. Additionally, the CFP Board’s Career Center can help you find your footing after you get certified.
For more information about becoming a financial planner, visit CFP.net.
As you spend the summer months looking back on and celebrating all your hard work over the last four years, don’t forget to make an investment in your future. Pursuing CFP® certification can lead to a rewarding, profitable career as a financial planner. (StatePoint)

From Packing To Unpacking: A Guide To Key Moving Products
Whether you’re relocating across the street or across the country, packing can be an overwhelming task. However, with the right supplies, the process can be structured and smooth. This guide provides tips for getting organized and protecting your personal property from damage so that you can enjoy the excitement of settling into a new space.
1. Be Box Smart:
As you prepare for a move, you may be tempted to utilize old boxes rather than purchase new ones. While it may seem cost effective, it frequently results in ripped cardboard, damaged possessions and frustration. Instead, invest in heavy-duty boxes to keep valuable items safe in transit. It’s best to have various sizes to accommodate an array of belongings – both large and small. This minor investment will pay off when things arrive at their destination neatly arranged, secure and ready to be placed in their new home.
2. Control Chaos with Labels:
Maintain your personal inventory and reduce unpacking stress by labeling as you go. Write the area where each box goes on the outside or assign each room a different colored label. Not only will this action keep you organized while packing, but it will also streamline the unpacking process, ensuring that all items are delivered directly to the space where they belong.
3. Create a Bubble Barrier:
When it comes to fragile possessions like frames and vases, don’t underestimate the need for proper protection. Utilize products like Duck Brand Small Bubble Cushioning Wrap to shield valuables from bumps and nicks. The reusable wrap conforms around treasured goods to provide cushioning and fills empty voids. Maximum protection can be achieved by wrapping objects with the bubble side facing inwards.
4. Seal the Deal:
All the work from the tips above can go to waste if you use a moving tape that splits or tears. It’s essential to find one that is stronger and more durable than ordinary tape, like Duck Max Strength Packing Tape from Duck Brand. The heavy-duty, clear tape offers maximum strength and superior quality for moving and storage. With the right tape, even the heaviest boxes will stay sealed, and items will stay safely secured throughout the journey.

Bringing Luxury Outdoors: Tips For A High-End Resort Feel At Home
Elevating your outdoor space into a luxurious retreat that rivals a high-end resort is a dream that many homeowners share. Whether you’re renovating your current property, planning a complete transformation, or starting fresh with a custom build, use these tips and design elements to get started.
• Embrace Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living: Create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces by incorporating features like bi-fold doors or expansive sliding glass doors that open onto a patio or courtyard. This continuous flow enhances your living experience and sets the stage for a resort-like ambiance.
• Go Big and Bold with Backyard Landscaping: According to experts, landscaping should provide contrast. “Incorporate modern aesthetics into your backyard with bold and innovative landscaping that includes both hard and soft elements,” suggests Kevin Scott, owner and partner of Alair Sanibel, a custom home builder in Southwest Florida.
• Put Modern Twists on Natural Elements: Bringing the beauty of nature into your outdoor design will create a calming environment. To maintain a contemporary feel, use materials like stone, wood and bamboo in creative ways, such as
your interiors to achieve harmony. Choose cozy and comfortable furniture like sofas, lounges, swings and dining sets, and add finishing touches such as pillows, rugs and accessories. “When selecting outdoor items, opt for weather-
with modern sculptural planters, sleek wooden decking or minimalist stone pathways.
• Create a Cozy “Sane-tuary”: Leili Fatemi, of Leili Design Studio, recommends transforming your outdoor space into an extension of
resistant materials like wrought iron, teakwood, and outdoor-grade wicker and fabrics that are 100% solution-dyed acrylic for fade- and mildew-resistance,” advises Fatemi, emphasizing the importance of easy-care living.
• Introduce Water Features and Outdoor Luxury Showers: Capture the resort-like feel by incorporating water features such as fountains, reflecting pools or small waterfalls, as well as stunning additions like outdoor luxury showers for a spalike experience.
• Enhance Ambiance with Outdoor Sound Systems: Install high-quality sound systems so you can enjoy convenience and comfort outdoors, whether relaxing or entertaining guests.
• Illuminate with Smart Outdoor Lighting: Consider installing smart outdoor lighting systems that can be controlled remotely to improve security and safety and to highlight landscaping and architectural features at night.
• Create a Versatile Outdoor Retreat: Incorporate a backyard studio that can serve as a sheltered spot for various purposes such as a guest room, home office or party room.
• Focus on Wellness and Entertainment: Design outdoor spaces that
promote wellness and entertainment. LeTricia Zogheib of Zogheib Necessary Luxury recommends incorporating features like a giant chess set or innovative installations. “I recently had a client request an outdoor TV installed at the end of his pool that could rise from the ground and rotate for different seating positions,” says Zogheib.
• Partner with Expert Builders: Collaborate with experienced builders specializing in outdoor luxury design. “A reputable builder can ensure that your outdoor retreat is crafted with precision and attention to detail,” says Glen Harris III, regional partner at Alair Florida.
To explore how experts can help you create an outdoor living space that rivals the experience of a highend resort, visit www.alairflorida. com.
With thoughtful design, premium materials, attention to detail and the expertise of knowledgeable professionals, you can transform your outdoor area into a luxurious retreat where every day feels like a getaway. (StatePoint)
How To Avoid Hefty Smartphone Repair Costs
From listening to music to watching movies, connecting with family to counting steps, Americans say in a new study that they depend on their smartphones like never before. And they are putting their money where their mouth is. The amount of money they spent on screen repairs surged to $8.3 billion in 2023, nearly tripling the amount spent in 2018 ($3.4 billion).
damaging a device compared to 87 million during a comparable period in 2020.
In its latest Mobile Mythconceptions Survey, Allstate Protection Plans found that despite the rising amount spent on smartphone repair, Americans are actually damaging their devices less frequently. In the past 12 months, 78 million Americans reported
Cost Conscious Consumers
Last year, the three most frequent accidents and malfunctions reported were: damaged screens (67%), Wi-Fi or connectivity issues (28%) and touchscreen problems (24%).
When Americans do damage their phones, repair costs remain a significant concern for many. In fact, 49% of Americans would not repair a damaged smartphone that still functions due to the high costs involved. This could be in part due to sticker shock and misconceptions around the cost of smartphone ownership. The survey found that the average cost for repairs and replacements is now $302, yet 47% of Americans think repairs cost $150 or less. The top reason given by respondents who have damaged a smartphone
for avoiding or delaying repairs was the cost, with 39% saying they could not afford it.
The Race to Repair
Smartphones have taken center stage, with 45% of smartphone owners spending five or more hours a day glued to their screens and the overwhelming majority saying their phone has completely replaced their digital camera. So it’s no surprise that despite cost concerns, many American smartphone owners don’t delay when dealing with damage, with 27% saying they would initiate screen repairs within a day due to the importance of their phones in everyday life.
When it comes to broken buttons, 36% say they would wait a day or less to repair their phone, 30% for
damaged speakers, 29% for broken microphones and 22% for broken cameras.

Confused By Nutrition Labels? You’re Not Alone
Shopping for groceries can be like navigating a maze: so many choices in every aisle, food packages covered in marketing claims and little direction on what is truly healthy and what isn’t.
People want to make healthy choices for themselves and their families, but how can they when the information available to them can be so overwhelming?
For years, the Nutrition Facts label on the back of food packages has provided important nutrition information, such as the amount of calories, fat, sodium, sugar, protein and vitamins and minerals.
But all the numbers can be confusing, and they’re not readily visible. Given America’s high rates of diet-related disease and illness, advocates say that more must be done to make sure consumers have the information they need to make healthy choices.
That’s why the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which sets standards for nutrition labeling, is developing a new labeling system that would appear on the front of

The success of front-of-pack labeling in other countries suggests it will help people in the United
States make healthier choices that can improve well-being and reduce high rates of diet-related diseases, including some forms of heart disease and cancer.
In fact, the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) recommended such a system more than 10 years ago, and national polls show most Americans support it.
The FDA plans to release a proposal for a front-of-pack food labeling system in the United States that can get everyone out of the food shopping maze. To stay informed and learn more, visit yourethecure.org/ FOP.
“Clear, concise front-of-pack nutrition labeling is the answer. After all, grocery shopping shouldn’t require a degree in nutrition,” says Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association. (StatePoint)

Expert Landscaping Tips For Choosing And Installing Plants
The perfect landscape may start with a healthy, lush lawn, but for interest and depth, you’ll also need to consider the plants that surround it.
Thankfully, it’s easy to make considerable improvements to your backyard life using tips from professionals.
Landscape designer Doug Scott has partnered with lawn care equipment manufacturer Exmark, to offer these tips for selecting and installing plants that will beautify your outdoor living areas.
Choosing Plants
• Choose plants well-suited for your specific growing conditions. Knowing your growing zone is important, however you should also be mindful how conditions like sun exposure can change as you move around your yard.
• Choose the right size plants for the space. Bear in mind that what you’re planting today is much smaller than what it will be once it’s matured. Always read a plant’s care label to understand its optimal growing conditions and size at maturity.
• From a design perspective, think in terms of texture, layers and drifts. When addressing the overall texture of your planting beds, choose plants that vary in form, size, color and leaf structure.
This will create greater interest, and a space that’s more visually appealing and enjoyable to spend time in.
For a lush look, think in terms of layers when considering composition. Much like in a painting, you should have background, middle ground, and foreground layers.
Finally, your foreground layer should help transition the planting beds to your lawn space. You can accomplish this with smaller perennials, evergreens, annuals or creeping ground covers.
When addressing drifts, read the plant labels
Your background layer should consist of taller evergreen shrubs to provide something alive and green to look at all year long, no matter what’s happening in front of them.
Your middle ground layer should be lower than the background layer to create interest, and is where you can add a contrasting evergreen shrub or pop of color with a perennial plant.
to know how large they’ll grow. This can help ensure plants grow in together as they mature, but are not overcrowded.
Installing Them
1. Dig a hole that’s about two times the diameter of the pot your plant’s being transplanted form, and about the depth of the pot.
2. Mend in compost or soil conditioner to give your plant the organic material it needs to thrive. If you’d like, add slow-release fertilizer, and mix well.
3. Place your plant in the hole, making sure that it sits at, or just above, the level it did in the pot.
4. Backfill with soil, stopping to add water when the hole is about halfway full.
5. Fill the rest of the hole with soil, then firmly press down.
6. Soak your plant with more water.
7. Finish by adding mulch, making sure it’s pulled away from the base of your plant.
Scott offers more insights in “How to Choose Plants for Landscaping,” a recent episode of “Done-in-a-Weekend Projects,” an original series from Exmark.
To watch the video, visit Backyard Life, which is part of a unique multimedia destination with a focus on helping homeowners make the most of outdoor spaces.
“Now that you have the inspiration and know-how needed to choose and install plant material, you can create landscaping that reflects who you are and how you’d like to live outside,” says Scott. (StatePoint)

Asian Americans Share Challenges Of Caregiving For Elderly Immigrant Parents
(Continued From Page 01)
In its 2020 report: “Asian Americans 65 and Older,” the Administration for Community Living — an agency within the federal Department of Health and Human Services — notes that the Asian American population age 65 and older was 2,492,874 in 2019 and is projected to grow to 7.9 million by 2060.
Older AAPIs largely live in three states: California, Texas, and New York, noted the report. More than 9% of the elderly AAPI population lives in poverty, with an av-
erage annual income of $30,788, and just $19,561 for older Asian American women. About 25% of Asian American seniors live with their adult children.
The National Asian Pacific Center on Aging is one of five organizations involved with Asian Americans Advancing Justice-AAJC’s Narrative Change and Caregiving Project. The initiative is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
For the project, NAPCA created four videos of families discussing the myriad of challenges involved

She wrote, “I am both shocked by this decision and profoundly disappointed that the University is succumbing to a campaign of hate meant to silence my voice.
I am not surprised by those who attempt to propagate hatred. I am surprised that my own university—my home for four years—has abandoned me.”
While USC did not name Tabassum, it is learned that she is an Indian American from Chino Hills.
The Indian Muslim girl is a biomedical engineering student and was chosen from a pool of at least 100 others who had applied to be the speaker.

in caregiving. The filmmakers brought together a deeply moving range of narratives.
One film tells the story of two Indian American daughters caring for their mother, formerly a physician, who can now only communicate by blinking as her disease progresses.
Another film focuses on a Filipino American man trying to balance the twin challenges of a full-time job and being the sole care giver for his 91-year-old mother. In a sweet moment, the two chat about old times as they make egg rolls together.
A young Hawaiian Chinese woman lives with her elderly mother, who suffers from multiple illnesses. They are forced to talk about endof-life expectations as a close family member is moved to hospice care. And in another film, a Thai American woman, whose elderly parents still work at their restaurant despite health challenges, says: “I feel like I’m the parent of two really stubborn children.”
The series is titled: “We Care.”
“Every story is different, the expectations are different,” Benny Lai, a spokesman for NAPCA, told Ethnic Media Services. “But the mindset is the same. You must have a lot of patience and love. Otherwise, you cannot be a caregiver.”
“Asian folks are more willing and common to be caregivers. Back in our home countries, it’s very com-
mon that the second generation are living with their parents,” said Lai. “And when they are in the States, living in bigger homes, getting married, moving out of their parents’ homes, they find it easier to hire a couple of domestic helpers at maybe $3,000 to $4,000 a month per person, or put them in elderly houses for $4,000 a month. But not a whole lot of people can afford them,” he said, noting that by default, adult children become their parent’s caregivers.
Denyse Woo Ockerman, who lives with her mother Irma in Hemet, California, characterizes her mom as “my best friend.”
“We were meant to be together,” she says in her film. “Caregiving is imprinted in our culture. It is ohana,” says Woo Ockerman, using her culture’s word for a deeply tied family.
“Love is With Me,” are the words that echoed through Manisha and Nayana Shahane’s mother’s journal, which she began to write shortly after being diagnosed with Multiple Symptom Atrophy.
The family’s long term care insurance ran out: Manisha and Nayana had to step up round-the-clock care, often at expense to their own well-being.
The loss of time for self-care was a theme that echoed through all four videos. But each caregiver also spoke about the deep satisfaction they had gained from caring for a vulnerable human being.
All four films will be featured at various film festivals around the US beginning in May. They can be viewed on NAPCA’s YouTube channel next month. (Ethnic Media Services)

Why Wild Bird Lovers Should Choose Top-Of-The-Crop Natural Feed
(Joan Casanova) Have you ever wondered what’s in your favorite packaged foods, grabbed a box from your pantry, read the ingredients and realized you still didn’t know what you’re eating? The ingredients in some processed foods can read like a chemist’s shopping list. Now imagine if backyard birds could read. What would they say about the ingredients in the food you feed them?
A growing number of Americans are choosing natural foods for their pets; nearly one-third say they prefer natural products, according to PetFoodIndustry.com. People who feed wild birds also want to know they’re feeding the most natural and nutritious options. It’s hard to be confident when reading the mystifying ingredient list on feed bags makes you feel like a bird brain.
With an abundance of options, ranging from commercial bird feeds to small-batch varieties, understanding the differences can help bird lovers make informed choices to meet wild birds’ nutritional needs while considering factors like sustainability and quality.
The wild bird experts at Cole’s Wild Bird Products, Co. offer these tips to ensure you’re feeding your feathered friends a healthy, natural diet.
While commercial bird feeds aim to provide basic nutrition for birds, the quality and nutritional content can vary. Some mixes contain a high proportion of less desirable seeds and fillers, offering limited nutritional value.
Small batch bird feeds prioritize nutritional content, using premium ingredients rich in essential nutrients, fats and proteins. This can provide birds with a more balanced diet, promoting overall health and vitality.
Avoid commercial bird feeds that are full of cheap fillers, such as red milo, millet, cracked corn, oats and wheat. Fillers lack nutritional value and birds will kick them right out of the feeder.
Instead, select small batch, natural feed comprised of topof-the-crop seeds which contain no chemicals or mineral oil like Cole’s and bypass seed coated with them.
Some commercial bird feeds are coated with mineral oil and mixed with crushed rock to add “vitamins.” Current regulations allow manufacturers to list nutritional components of mineral oil (iron, zinc) and crushed rock (vitamin A, calcium carbonate) separately, which can make the ingredients look more impressive. Mineral oil makes birdseed shiny and helps hide dirt and dust, and crushed rock adds weight to the product.
Take note of ingredients you can’t read; often it’s an indication the ingredient is synthetic or lab engineered. Ingredients like menadione sodium bisulfite complex and thiamine mononitrate aren’t found
in natural foods; they’re man-made versions of vitamins. The rule of thumb for buying all-natural is “If you can’t read it, don’t feed it.”
Focus on serving feed with an ingredient list you can read and understand. For instance, Cole’s
Sunflower Meats contains nothing but shelled sunflower seeds and White Millet contains 100% white millet. Super simple, right?
Study birds visiting your feeders and research feed they prefer or buy feed from a reputable company that’s done that work for you. For example, Cole’s offers select natural seed choices developed and based on research about what birds actually eat.
Feed is specifically formulated to attract certain species of birds as well as the largest number of birds.
No cheap filler seeds are used and seed is cleaned to ensure quality - no sticks and dirt. When you know and serve
what backyard birds prefer, they’ll keep coming back for more.
Supplement seed with natural foods you have at home. For example, woodpeckers love raw peanuts, mockingbirds love fruit and chickadees savor suet. Soak raisins and currants in water overnight then serve or purchase blends with a dried fruit and nut mixture, like Nutberry suet. To attract orioles, skewer halved oranges on a spike near feeders.
Buy feed from companies specializing in wild bird food. Some offer bird feed as a side product of pet products or grass seed producers. Conversely, Cole’s exclusively produces and sells products for feeding backyard birds. Seeds are packaged like human food in “Harvest Fresh Lock” packaging so seeds don’t lose nutritional content or dry out and spoil.

Khajuraho Group Of Monuments
The Khajuraho Group of Monuments are a group of Hindu and Jain temples in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, India. They are about 175 kilometres (109 mi) southeast of Jhansi, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Khajwa, 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) from Rajnagar, and 49 kilometres (30 mi) from district headquarter Chhatarpur. The temples are famous for their Nagarastyle architectural symbolism and a few erotic sculptures.
Most Khajuraho temples were built between 885 CE and 1000 CE by the Chandela dynasty. Historical records note that the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples by the 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometres (7.7 sq mi). Of these, only about 25 temples have survived, spread over six square kilometres (2.3 sq mi). Of the surviving temples, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is decorated with a profusion of sculptures with intricate details, symbolism, and expressiveness of ancient Indian art. The temple complex was forgotten and overgrown by the jungle until 1838 when Captain T.S. Burt, a British engineer, visited the complex and reported his findings in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal.
When these monuments were built, the boys in the place lived in hermitages, by being brahmacharyas (bachelors) until they attained manhood and these sculptures helped them to learn about the

Cunningham’s nomenclature and systematic documentation work in 1850s and 1860s have been widely adopted and continue to be in use. He grouped the temples into the Western group around Lakshmana, Eastern group around Javeri, and Southern group around Duladeva.
The Khajuraho monuments are located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, in Chatarpur district, about 620 kilometres (385 mi) southeast of New Delhi. The temples are located near a small town also known as Khajuraho, with a population of about 24,481 people (2011 Census).
The monuments are about ten kilometres off the east-west National Highway 75, and about 50 kilometres from the city of Chhatarpur, which is connected to the state capital Bhopal by the SW-NE running National Highway 86.
The 10th-century Bhand Deva Temple in Rajasthan was built in the style of the Khajuraho monuments and is often referred to as ‘Little Khajuraho’.
The Khajuraho temples were built about 35 miles from the medieval city of Mahoba, the capital of the Chandela dynasty, in the Kalinjar region. In ancient and medieval literature, their kingdom has been referred to as Jijhoti, Jejahoti, Chihchi-to and Jejakabhukti.
The first documented mention of Khajuraho was made in 641 by
The Tales Of Panchatantra
The Brahmin and the Crooks
In a small village, there lived a Brahmin, by the name of Mitra Sharma. He was a worshipper of Fire-God. One day, during monsoons, when the sky was overcast with cloud, he decided to conduct a certain sacrificial ritual.
The Brahmin And The CrooksPanchatantra Story PictureThe Brahmin travelled to a nearby village, to visit a devotee, to request for a goat that he will offer it as a sacrifice to the Gods.
On his arrival, he requested the devotee, “Son, I want to perform a sacrificial ritual on this auspicious time. Please offer me with a wellfed goat.”
The devotee agreed and offered
him with one of his best goats.
The Brahmin started his journey homewards. He carried the goat on his shoulders, so that he did not have problems in controlling the animal on the way home.
On his way home, three crooks watched him from a distance. They were almost starving, and the Brahmin had a goat and he was all alone.
They discussed, “We will be saved from the fangs of hunger in this cold monsoon, if we can lay our hands on this goat that the Brahmin is carrying.”
They decided to trick the Brahmin, in order to gain the goat for themselves.
As planned, the first of the crooks stood in the Brahmin’s path, by taking a shorter road.
When the Brahmin, with the goat on his shoulders, approached him, he queried, “Ho Brahmin, Why is it that you behave so ridiculously?”
Xuanzang, a Chinese pilgrim who described encountering several dozen inactive Buddhist monasteries and a dozen Hindu temples with a thousand worshipping brahmins. In 1022 CE, Khajuraho was mentioned by Abu Rihan-al-Biruni, the Persian historian who accompanied Mahmud of Ghazni in his raid of Kalinjar; he mentions Khajuraho as the capital of Jajahuti. The raid was unsuccessful, and a peace accord was reached when the Hindu king agreed to pay a ransom to Mahmud of Ghazni to end the attack and leave.
Khajuraho temples were in active use through the end of the 12th century. This changed in the 13th century; after the army of Delhi Sultanate, under the command of the Muslim Sultan Qutb-ud-din Aibak, attacked and seized the Chandela kingdom. About a century later, Ibn Battuta, the Moroccan traveller in his memoirs about his stay in India from 1335 to 1342 AD, mentioned visiting Khajuraho temples, calling them “Kajarra” as follows:
“Why on earth are you carrying a profane dog on your shoulders?”
On hearing this, the Brahmin got angry, he replied, “How can you not see any difference between a goat and a dog? Are you blind? Can’t you see I am carrying a sacrificial goat?”
The crook had played his part, and replied, “Please don’t get angry on me. You may have it anyway you want. Please carry on with your journey”.
A little further, he was approached by the second crook, who said, “Ho Brahmin, shame on you! How can you carry this dead calf on your shoulders like that? Shame on you!”
...near (Khajuraho) temples, which contain idols that have been mutilated by the Moslems, live a number of yogis whose matted locks have grown as long as their bodies. And on account of extreme asceticism they are all yellow in colour. Many Moslems attend these men in order to take lessons (yoga) from them.
— Ibn Battuta, about 1335 CE, Riḥlat Ibn Baṭūṭah, Translated by Arthur Cotterell
The central Indian region, where Khajuraho temples are, was controlled by various Muslim dynasties from the 13th century through the 18th century. In this period, some temples were desecrated, followed by a long period when they were left in neglect. In 1495 CE, for example, Sikandar Lodi’s campaign of temple destruction included Khajuraho. The remoteness and isolation of Khajuraho protected the Hindu and Jain temples from continued destruction by Muslims. Over the centuries, vegetation and forests overgrew the temples.

4 Things Parents And Youth Athletes Should Know About Concussions
Despite the attention drawn to the topic of concussions over the past decade, it can be difficult to find readily available answers about what parents and young athletes should do after sustaining a concussion.
The Katsuyama family started 2023 without a single concussion, even with quite a few hockey and lacrosse seasons under its belt. That changed when Rylan, 11, received two concussions within five months from sports. One week after Rylan’s second concussion, his brother, Brandon, 13, was illegally checked from behind in a hockey game and sustained his first concussion. After clearing protocol in four weeks, he suffered a second concussion six weeks later.
Both boys endured months of headaches, missed school, dizziness, nausea and the added difficulty of navigating a significant injury peers and adults couldn’t see.
Their father, Brad Katsuyama, cofounder of IEX - a disruptive stock exchange featured in the best-sell-
ing book by Michael Lewis, “Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt”sought out expert opinions to guide his family’s decisions and shares some acquired knowledge to help parents and athletes.
1. Brain injuries should be diagnosed by a concussion specialist. There is no X-ray, MRI or CT scan
that can show the extent of most concussion-related injuries, which makes diagnosing them subjective. Symptoms can also appear days after a hit. For example, Brandon was cleared by the emergency room after his first concussion, but two days later failed every test administered by a doctor specializing in concussions.
2. Rushing back to play is one of the worst mistakes you can make. Experts consistently reinforced that coming back from a concussion too soon can significantly increase long-term brain injury risks. There is likely no tournament, playoff game or tryout worth this risk. An example of how to return smartly is Patrice Bergeron of the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins, who sat out an entire year to properly heal from a concussion.
“Patrice had four more concussions over his career, and each one was less severe than the last,” renowned concussion specialist Dr.
Robert Cantu said. “That wouldn’t have happened without recovery from the first one.”
3. Parents and kids need to be honest about symptoms. The culture in youth sports praises toughness. Getting your “bell rung” and continuing to play can be viewed as a badge of honor. However, this same mentality can cause athletes to lie to parents, trainers and coaches to get back in the game, which can greatly increase long-term risks. Conversely, the same adults can unduly influence a potentially vulnerable player back on to the field of play. Proper diagnosis requires both adults and athletes to be level-headed and honest in their assessment of concussions.
4. Every person and every concussion is different.
One person’s history and experience with concussions seldom carries any relevance to the concussions experienced by another. For example, Katsuyama played
varsity football, hockey and rugby for four years in high school and football in college.
“For the longest time, my definition of a ‘real’ concussion was blacking out, vomiting or pupils dilating,” Katsuyama said. “My sons had none of those symptoms after their hits, but it turns out the severity of their injuries were far greater than anything I had experienced.”
The Katsuyamas turned to the Concussion Legacy Foundation and the Cantu Concussion Center, in addition to their local concussion specialist, to advise their path forward, which has led them to racquet sports and golf in the near-term and long-term playing no more than one contact sport in a school year. Breathe Better With Asthma, Wherever You Are
If you have asthma, you know that symptoms can come on quickly, then worsen.
The things that make them do that are called triggers. An important part of managing asthma is knowing your triggers at home, work, school or while you’re outdoors.
A health care provider can help you figure that out, then you can take steps to avoid those triggers and breathe easier.
At Home
Because asthma is usually due to allergies, triggers are often allergens, or things that cause allergic reactions. Allergens such as pet dander, dust mites, pests and smoke can make asthma symptoms worse in some people, and for others, even trigger an asthma attack.
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) suggests that it may be helpful to combine a
few different strategies to help reduce exposure to triggers.

air (HEPA) filtration vacuum and use mattress and pillow covers that prevent exposure to dust mites. If you’re sensitive to pests like cockroaches and rodents, consider integrated pest management, which involves removing and control-
At School
Asthma is one of the leading reasons children miss school. At school, kids may be exposed to dust mites, pests and mold, which may be asthma triggers for some children.
Because children spend lots of time at school, it can be helpful for teachers, school nurses or coaches to know what to do if your child’s symptoms flare up. Team up with a health care provider to develop an asthma action plan and share it with trusted adults at your child’s school.
At Work
The workplace can have hundreds of potential triggers, like chlorinebased cleaning products, bleaches, hair dyes and metal dust. Repeated exposures in the workplace can also lead to new triggers. Report new or worsening symptoms that occur at work to your health care provider and your workplace supervisor.
Outdoors
Everyday weather like cold, dry air can set off breathing problems. Air pollution can affect asthma, too.
It may be helpful to avoid some of
the worst pollution by adjusting when and where you exercise. Try to avoid exercising near busy roads or industrial areas. Visit airnow. gov to check your local air quality so you can plan to avoid outdoor activities when pollution is highest.
Managing your triggers is just one part of keeping your asthma under control. Work with a health care provider to develop an asthma treatment plan that includes taking medicines as prescribed and keeping track of your symptoms and where you are when they occur. That way, you can know what’s making your asthma worse or better. To learn more about asthma, visit NHLBI’s Learn More Breathe Better(r) program at nhlbi.nih.gov/ BreatheBetter.

A Genetic Connection To Kidney Disease
A genetic condition that can cause kidney failure, APOL1-mediated kidney disease (AMKD) represents a group of kidney diseases associated with mutations (changes or variants) in the apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1) genes.
Typically, the APOL1 genes - of which every person has two, one from each parent - create proteins that play a role in immunity. However, some people are born with mutations in one or both genes, and having mutations in both can increase the risk of developing kidney disease and even kidney failure.
In honor of National AMKD Awareness Day on April 30, consider this information from the experts at the American Kidney Fund to better understand the disease and become APOL1 aware.
Understanding Risk Factors
Research shows Black people with kidney disease are more likely to develop kidney failure than any other racial or ethnic group. The reasons for these health disparities include social determinants
of health, a higher burden of diabetes and high blood pressure in the Black community, barriers to health care access and genetics.
The APOL1 gene mutations

If you have kidney damage, symptoms may not occur until your kidneys are close to failing. As kidney damage worsens, one or more of these symptoms may occur:
* Protein in urine
* Swelling in legs or weight gain
* Feeling weak or tired
* High blood pressure
Should these symptoms occur and you have a family history of kidney disease, talk to a doctor about getting tested for kidney disease, as testing is the only way to determine kidney function. AMKD can cause damage to parts of the kidney that filter blood or, in some cases, cause cells in the kidneys to die, which can lead to damage and scarring that may eventually lead to kidney failure.
Getting a Diagnosis
The only way to know if you have APOL1 gene mutations is to do genetic testing via a blood or saliva
sample. Genetic testing may be considered if you have kidney disease and don’t know the cause or if you’re considering donating a kidney. Testing may also be considered if a family member is a carrier for the mutation. If you have questions about genetic testing, discuss your options with a doctor or ask for a referral to a genetic counselor.
Taking Steps to Prevent Kidney Disease
There are currently no treatments available for AMKD. However, there are steps you can take to protect your kidneys and promote general health. Work with your doctor to create a plan to prevent or delay the progression of kidney disease, which may include:
* Doctor visits to check how your kidneys are working through urine and blood tests
* Checking for and managing diabetes and high blood pressure
* A healthy eating plan, which may involve limiting things like sodium (salt)
* Taking prescription medications as directed
* Being active at least 30 minutes each day of the week
* Quitting smoking or using tobacco
If you have the APOL1 gene mutations, you may be able to take part in clinical trials. Trials could provide an opportunity for researchers to develop and test safe treatments for AMKD. Also speak with family members about having genetic testing done if you have the mutation as they may also have it.

100% Grass-Fed Organic Dairy Benefits Consumers, Environment, Cows and Family Farms
While the difference between dairy alternatives such as oat, almond and other nut milks is easier to decipher, choosing between organic dairy varieties can be more difficult.
Organic milk certified by the United States Department of Agriculture comes from cows that get plenty of time outside and have not been treated with antibiotics or given hormones for growth or reproduction. However, cows that eat a 100% grass-fed organic diet - no grains, corn or other food - are healthier, produce higher quality milk, have greater positive environmental impacts and support small family farms.
Consider these benefits of 100% grass-fed dairy from the experts at Maple Hill, which provides dairy products as nature intended, including milk, kefir, yogurt and butter. This natural way to produce dairy leads to a rich taste and texture, and you can taste the 100% grass-fed difference.
Better for You
Providing dairy as nature intended with high nutritional impact and a rich taste and texture comes from feeding cows a 100% grass diet, free from additives, fillers, GMOs, hormones and antibiotics. This practice results in milk that is more nutrient-dense and flavorful.
Research conducted by the University of Minnesota Extension highlights the benefits of consuming organic dairy sourced from
100% grass-fed organic farms, revealing a 50% healthier ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 and 40% higher levels of conjugated linoleic acids fatty acids, which contribute to many health benefits including lowering the risk of heart disease.
While traditional organic dairy includes the organic certification, 100% grass-fed dairy includes a second grass-fed certification, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of regenerative farming practices that lead to rich and artisanal dairy products that are natural and
Turn Your Tax Refund Into A New Ride
With tax refunds starting to flow in, many people are considering ways to invest their money.
If you’re looking to purchase a vehicle, putting your tax refund toward a down payment on a used car can be a smart financial decision for several reasons - from reduced interest rates on your loan and shortened loan terms to lower monthly payments - and the timing is right to take advantage of improving market conditions. Consider this information to help make an informed buying decision.
Lower Your Monthly Payment
The more you can invest in the down payment of a vehicle, the lower your monthly cost will typically be and the less interest you will typically pay over the length of the loan. This can lead to smaller, more manageable monthly payments.
A significant down payment can also help offset higher-than-average interest payments and could lead to a shorter term, meaning less total accrued interest. An auto loan calculator can show you how a down payment can affect interest charges.
More Affordable Vehicle Options
Used car prices have been trending downward month-over-month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ consumer price index. These decreases in used car prices
are helping offset higher than normal interest rates. The average sales price for a preowned vehicle through Enterprise Car Sales, for example, is approximately $21,000 right now, compared to average new car prices, which are hovering around $44,000.
Vehicle inventory is improving along with an increase in consumer demand for cars, which makes now an attractive time to buy. Many used car sellers feature inventory that is readily available so you can select from options you know are in stock, including different makes and models with a wide range of different features that can offer more affordable options.
“We have a large inventory of vehicles across the country currently priced under $20,000,” said Mike Bystrom, vice president of Enterprise Car Sales. “There are several
healthier.
Better for the Environment
Producing grass-fed organic dairy necessitates a farm’s dedication to regenerating soil and fostering biodiversity within it, a foundation that sustains all aspects of farm life. Leading with regenerative grazing techniques, Maple Hill farms stimulate microbial activity in the soil, enhance water retention and sequester carbon, which promotes positive environmental impacts.
The grazing herds play a pivotal role in this process. The soil is healthier as a result of the grazing cows, which produces more nutritious grass and leads to healthier cows. This farming system epitomizes the essence of regenerative agriculture and results in nutrient dense dairy products.
Better for the Cow
considerations to keep in mind when shopping for a vehicle, and there is no onesize-fits-all approach. Consumers should weigh their options, but the one thing they shouldn’t compromise on is receiving great customer service.”
Protect Your Purchase
Ensuring your purchase is protected is also a smart financial decision. Take advantage of dealers that offer additional benefits to help protect your purchase and provide peace of mind that your tax refund has been well spent.
Look for a used vehicle that has passed an inspection by an ASE-certified technician and comes with a limited powertrain warranty, as well as extra coverage options such as roadside assistance and a return policy up to a certain amount of days or mileage. With a little research and careful planning, you can find a reliable used car that meets your needs and puts your tax refund to good use. Visit enterprisecarsales.com for more information.

In traditional organic dairy farming, up to 70% of a cow’s diet can consist of organic grain, whereas 100% grass-fed organic farming eschews grain entirely. Cows naturally thrive on grass, yet recent practices by farmers include feeding them corn, grain and other foods to boost milk production, potentially compromising the cows’ well-being and the milk’s quality. Because grass is a cow’s natural food source, cows with 100% grass-fed organic diets can live more than two times longer compared to cows with traditional organic diets.
Better for the Farmer
Grass-fed organic farming stands out as one of the most viable pathways for small family farms to thrive in the dairy industry, which has become increasingly industrialized. Smaller than a traditional organic dairy herd with an average of just 50 cows, Maple Hill’s 100% grass-fed family farms lead with regenerative practices and produce high product quality control.
Higher milk revenues allow family farms to compete and prosper, ensuring the continuity of their operations for future generations. These farms uphold 100% regenerative farming practices, yielding humane and traceable grass-fed organic dairy - a legacy that endures through the commitment of succeeding generations. IPL Breaks Records, Films Start To Get Delayed: Will IPL And Lok Sabha Elections Be Double Whammy For Films In 2024?
By Rishabh Suri
We get talking to the industry on whether 2024 can see films getting affected because of two other major events- IPL and elections. lndian Premiere League for sure enjoys a loyal fan following, but what has happened this time has left everyone surprised.
The cricket tournament has recorded its highest-ever viewership for the first ten matches at a staggering 350 million viewers, according to data released by a streaming platform. And if that wasn’t enough, even the Lok Sabha elections are happening this year. 2024 is therefore jam packed, leading to doubts whether films are going to be taking the maximum hit.
There are murmurs that Prabhas-Deepika Padukone’s film Kalki 2898 AD might not make it on time to theatres on May 9. Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi shares, “While there’s no official word from the makers, I have been hearing the film might be shifted to May 30 or Dushhera.”
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says IPL won’t have an impact on films, “But as far as elections are concerned, as the election fever
that many makers avoid releasing their films in this period. “IPL semi finals and finals will definitely hamper BO prospects.
heats up and the dates are out, it will definitely impact box office numbers.
As of now, because only the campaigning is going on, people are talking about it but the impact won’t be there.”
In fact, in the next two months, about 15 films are lined up for a release, including Do Aur Do Pyaar and Baby John. Adarsh fees
There have been films in the past which became successful during IPL, but they were always something like event or big star films that made the people go out,” he adds.
Director Amit Sharma, whose film Maidaan released on Eid yesterday, is confident that people will step out for it, “Bola jaaye toh elections can affect films, but it is a long weekend right now, that’s the reason producers took the call to release Maidaan now. People today want to watch good cinema, and even exams are over for school student. People will want to go out.” The reason why filmmakers get apprehensive about this pe-
riod is also because this time, the opportunities to promote will also lessen.
Varun Gupta, who has handled marketing for films such as Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Baahubali, quips, “Just see the number of viewers on any IPL match, easily around 2 crores every match, that’s the number of people you need for a film to touch 200-300 crores. There is a lot of overlap, as a lot of the IPL audience is also the film going audience. Because they are watching IPL every day, films are not their priority, as they come and go every week, IPL happened once a year.
There’s not a single big film rleasing after Eid until IPL is over. In fact, in this entire year, there’s only Singham Again, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Sitare Zameen Par, Baby John, that’s it!” IPL, he adds, still allows him to promote films, “Hoardings and ads are all taken over for elections. IPL affects walk in audience, but gives chance to promote, but elections let people vote in the morning and be free the rest of the day. It is indeed a double whammy. Producers are avoiding this period.” (Courtesy: https://www.hindustantimes.com/)
(Continued From Page 01) The prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health disorders has surged to critical levels, raising alarm for the nation’s health.
“Amongst the 1.4 billion population of India, the biggest health issues are related to a major jump in fatty liver diseases, obesity, diabetes, coronary artery diseases in the youth, and a plethora of malignancies of many organs affecting every section of society. This changing trend is more obvious as one encounters heart attacks and paralytic attacks in younger generations with alarming regularity,” Dr Anil Arora, Chairman, Gastroenterology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said.
Infectious disease expert Dr Ishwar Gilada said the “altered lifestyle” followed by the young generations is making them more prone to the diseases. “Our youth is going berserk on junk food, smoking, tobacco, alcohol,” and inviting diseases, he said.
He also blamed the work-from-home culture that was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to some extent with few companies. “We need to stop it because people who are working from home, do not do any exercise, or walk. That will cause a problem,” said Dr Gilada, Secretary General People’s Health Organization-India.
“Our health should be our responsibility. Everybody must be responsible for their health. One can’t always depend on the government and organizations to take care of health. One must stop tobacco habits, quit smoking, reduce, or stop alcohol consumption, and follow a healthy lifestyle with proper diet, and exercises,” Dr Gilada added. (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff’s Actioner Finally Crosses Rs 50 Crore Mark
By: Entertainment Desk
Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has seen the least action at the box office after its released on Eid, April 11.
The big budget film, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has been on a downward spiral in recent days, and fell below the Rs 2 crore mark for the first time in its run on day eight of release.
Early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk suggest that the film earned Rs 1.60 crore nett on Thursday (April 18) taking its nett total to Rs 50.15 crore. The film has been mounted on an estimated budget of Rs 350 crore, which it is unlikely to recover theatrically.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has also been witnessing decreasing footfalls. The film’s Hindi version
In Mumbai, where there were 383 shows, the occupancy stood at 10 percent. In Delhi and NCR, with
witnessed an overall occupancy of 8.34 percent.
500 shows, the occupancy was 8.25 percent.
The highest occupancy, 15 percent, was recorded in Jaipur where there were only 79 shows. Occupancy details of the film’s Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil versions are unavailable.
Despite its poor performance at the box office, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is expected to see a boost in ticket sales on Cinema Lovers Day on Friday (April 19) with tickets being sold for Rs 99 at several multiplexes all around the country.
However, it’ll face a stiff competition from new releases this week:
Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 and the Vidya Baland and Pratik Gandhi’s romcom Do Aur Do Pyaar.
The film also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy. Earlier, the makers had also introduced a buy one get one offer but it failed to attract the audiences.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F, clashed with Ajay Devgn’s sports biopic Maidaan, which opened to positive reviews by film critics.
However, even Maidaan has had a pretty weak run at the box office. (Courtesy: https://indianexpress. com/)
Fahadh Faasil’s Uninhibited Act Carries This Thinly-Plotted Film
Aavesham movie review: The casting of Fahadh Faasil as don Ranga was brilliant since the actor doesn’t do too many masala films.
You know when Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil stars in a film and also produces it, then you are in for an exciting ride. Added to this you have the director of superhit film, Romancham, as director and it’s a film that becomes a mustsee. Aavesham sees Fahadh Faasil, don the role of Ranga, along with a group of fresh actors, who make this gangster comedy a laugh riot.
The plot
Like director Jithu Madhavan’s previous film, Aavesham is set in Bengaluru and revolves around a group of college kids. Three migrant Malayali college kids - Bibi (Midhun), Aju (Hipster) and Shanthan (Roshan Shanavas) - decide to unite the first years to prevent getting ragged but this backfires and they kidnapped and beaten up by their seniors for two days straight.
The three then decide they want to extract revenge but have no ‘local support’. In their quest for local support, they visit numerous seedy bars to befriend a local gangster
who can help them in this crazy plan. And it is at Mayuri Bar the three end up meeting Ranga, who stands out like a sore thumb.
to the three boys who think he is a cartoon. Ranga seems like a gangster but doesn’t physically touch anyone. So how is he a gangster
Ranga really shines because not only is he dressed in a pristine white shirt and pants, but he has a jewellery shop’s worth on his body what with solid gold chains, bracelets and rings. His right hand man Amban (Sajin Gopu) boosts up his boss’s image with stories of glory
they wonder. Pretty soon they find out what power he yields and drag Ranga into their college politics with their seniors. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
What works
Aavesham is a well-written gang-
ster comedy and director Jithu Madhavan has proved his mettle yet again. His uncanny ability to pick new actors (like Midhun, Hipster and Roshan) who are apt and superb in their roles is a huge plus in this film as well.
While the college story is an oftseen one in films, it is Ranga’s character that is pivotal to making it a mass masala
comic caper. The dialogues add a lot of humour to the film and the director has ensured that the boys, Ranga and Amban have their equal share of witty ones to keep the audience in splits.
Ultimately, the casting of Fahadh
Faasil as Ranga was brilliant since the star doesn’t do too many massy masala films. When it comes to performance, Fahadh Faasil is undoubtedly the star of Aavesham. He carries the film effortlessly on his shoulders and his sense of comedy comes through perfectly in his various expressions and gestures.
For instance, the little dance he does after his shower gives us the funny side of this dreaded gangster. All in all, the talented Fahadh Faasil has put his indelible stamp on Ranga and one can’t imagine another actor essaying this role.
Final thoughts
The film will appeal especially to the youth not just for its theme but also the fact that music director’s Sushin Shyam’s songs are very trendy and hip. The cinematography by Sameer Thahir is good but the editing could have been better as some scenes could have been done away with.
Aavesham is a must-watch not just because it’s a well-made film but also because Fahadh Faasil is a riot in masala caper. (Courtesy: https:// www.hindustantimes.com/)
