Modi Has United India

power, but increase his levels of support? A key factor is that Modi has managed to transcend India’s greatest fault line: the class divide. Over 600 Attend 4th Annual Citywide Iftar By Sumaiya Malik Ever since Rep. Ilhan Omar (DMN) has been elected to serve as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district in late 2018, this feisty young Somalian American Muslim immigrant representative in the House has grabbed the interest of practically everyone in the United States. So it was only expected that once the word got out that Rep. Omar would be the keynote speaker at the 4th Annual Citywide Iftaar on Saturday, May 18 at a local hotel, Austinites would scramble to find a seat at the table to break fast with the Congresswoman. since independence simply cannot. His second consecutive term is a victory for meritocracy, and for opportunity, thanks to a slate of welfare policies for the country’s extreme poor. Through socially progressive policies, he has brought many Indians, both Hindus and religious minorities, out of poverty at a faster rate than in any previous generation. Modi pledged to improve the country’s sanitation and he has more than delivered; from fewer than 40% of households having access to a toilet, almost 95% do now. Close to all Indian villages now have access to electricity, when less than 40% did when he took office. (Continued on page 8)
FATHER’S DAY Planning for Father’s Day doesn’t need to be complicated. For a surefire win, turn to gifts that Dad can sip -- those are the best kinds of gifts, after all, giving him a chance to kick his feet up and relax with a delicious beverage after a hard day -- something every father deserves.
From fine bourbon to sweet moonshine, the gift of a bottle is a gift that keeps on giving with every pour. (Continued on page 7)
