By Manoj Ladwa The largest democratic exercise in history, which saw more than 600 million Indians vote, may have ended in a landslide for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but this election was no formality. It followed perhaps the most abusive, abrasive and ill-tempered campaign in India’s history, in which opposition party Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi attempted to do battle on every available faultline in Indian society.

Yet despite the strong and often unfair criticisms leveled at Modi’s policies both throughout his first term and this marathon election, no Prime Minister has united the

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection and community.

A commemoration of the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad, the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one visual sighting of the crescent moon to the next. The word Ramadan derives from the Arabic root ramiḍa or ar-ramaḍ (“scorching heat” or “dryness”). Fasting is fard (obligatory) for adult Muslims, except those who are ill, travelling, elderly, pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, chronically ill, or menstruating.

Although fatwas have been issued declaring that Muslims who live in regions with a midnight sun or polar night should follow the timetable of Mecca, the more commonly accepted opinion is that they should instead follow the timetable of the closest country to them in which night can be distinguished from day.

While fasting from dawn until sunset, believers refrain from food, drink, smoking, sexual relations, and sinful behavior that may negate the reward of fasting, striving to purify themselves and increase their taqwa (good deeds and God-consciousness). The predawn meal is referred to as suhoor, while the nightly feasts to break the fast is called iftar. Spiritual rewards (thawab) for fasting are believed to be multiplied during the month of Ramadan, when believers devote themselves to salat (prayer), recitation of the Quran and the performance of charitable deeds.

Muslims hold that the Quran was first revealed to Muhammad during the month of Ramadan on Laylat al-Qadr (the night of power), one of the five odd-numbered nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. According to hadith, all holy scriptures were sent down during Ramadan, the tablets of Ibrahim, the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel and the Quran being revealed on first, sixth, twelfth, thirteenth and twenty-fourth Ramadans, respectively. Tidying Up Your Finances

While cleaning out your closet and making a financial plan may be two very different things, tidying up your finances can also “spark joy.”

A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) can help you commit to a plan that helps you take control of your spending, providing you with confidence today and a more secure tomorrow.

Here are nine ideas to get you started: 1. Write down your financial goals and post them somewhere prominent, such as your fridge. These can be small goals, like “I will bring lunch to work three days a week,” or bigger goals, like “I will pay off my student loan.”

2. Calculate your net worth to get an overall picture of your financial standing. Your net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe.

3. Update (or create) your budget showing what money is coming in and what’s going out. Make sure it’s not in the red, meaning you’re spending more than you’re earning.

4. Consider opening a Christmas club-type savings account to pay for big-ticket personal expenses. Originally pioneered during the Great Depression, Christmas clubs were financial accounts people added cash to throughout the year. They then used these savings to buy holiday gifts, helping to avoid

6. Set a deadline to pay off credit cards in full. This will help motivate you to take control of your debt.

7. Rebalance your 401(k) about once a year to see if you are out of balance from your original goals. For example, if your allocation was 60 percent stocks and 40 percent bonds, but stocks had a good year, you might now have a 65 percent stocks and 35 percent bonds allocation, so this will have to be rebalanced.

8. Increase your savings plans. This could be your employer plan at work, your own emergency fund, or both. Consider raising your contribution by 1 percent a year.

9. Meet with a CFP professional. If you haven’t begun planning for retirement or tying your financial goals to your life goals, there’s no better time than now to start. You can find a CFP at letsmakeaplan.org.

Dad was too glad to hear this and promised a precious gift to his lad!

Before the next day, on the night throughout, While others were asleep fast, As if the world was at his feet He spent the night dreaming of the special gift!

(2) Neatly dressed in his best, In between, as if in a nest, Holding hands of mum and dad apart,

With his tiny hands, both of them he firmly hugged, Never ever to be separated, As they were, the best gifts in his world.

The special gift was out of his mind.

By Vidya Kumar I noticed that even though I look forward to weekend during weekdays but when actually weekends come it is a nightmare. Especially doing the laundry is OK not too much of a burden but folding the clothes and putting them away is one thing that I do not cherish. It is a chore that I dread and as the baskets pile up for folding I sometimes refuse to go to my room for anything since looking at those baskets full of clothes begging me to fold is something that I do not look forward to. Sometimes at a stretch I fold the clothes while watching TV since it can be done

in one place but putting it away becomes herculean task and so it sits on the sofa sometimes for a week until the next weekend comes in case we have no visitors fortunately. Also occasionally come Monday I literally be searching for my clothes from the baskets and trying to get what I want and so ironing them at that time when it is all crumpled takes time. At times the chore becomes so stressful especially when I socialize and so no time for housework then it becomes too much for me to cope.

So I decided that instead of avoiding going to the room I would rather just fold 5 clothes and put it away also every time I go to the

room. Since it was just 5 clothes I was so happy once I completed the task that I purposely started going to the room and then folding and putting away also. Within no time though it does take more time than the normal way of folding and putting away I was able to complete the task without realizing that I have spent time. So now I am adopting this method for all my endeavors like cleaning just assign 10 minutes etc. Very short duration or splitting the task and now I am able to complete the tasks and feel happy about it and thus find happiness in small measures.

From a position as one of Morgan Stanley’s pronounced ‘Fragile Five’ economies most vulnerable to collapse, India is now the fifth largest economy in the world and the fastest-growing major economy.

His embrace of technology is driving transformative programmes in universal healthcare, affordable housing, financial inclusion, and climate mitigation. Intuitively he has understood, like no other predecessor, how the much-admired tech skills of Indians can be used to transform society.

If there was short-term pain for the cash-reliant Indian population through his dramatic decision to wipe out high value currency notes overnight in November 2016 (referred to as demonetization), it has led to long-term gain. The tax base in India has almost doubled, and with it, the amount of tax collected — but with a lower tax burden on individual citizens. More tax revenue means more funding for welfare programmes that have brought sanitation and electricity to so many. Meanwhile, the move away from cash has seen an unprecedented 200 million plus new

bank accounts opened, bringing India’s so-called “unbankables” nearer to full integration within India’s formal economy.

Digitization has empowered the poor, eliminating corrupt middlemen and allowing direct deposits of state benefits, social security and pension payments into the hands of the poor. Modi has also succeeded in bringing the whole of India into one tax union, through the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, and thereby making India at last a truly single market.

His reforms have helped bring inflation under control, from a record high of more than 12% at the tail end of Manmohan Singh’s government, to below 3% in April 2019; and has reduced the deficit down to 3.42%, when a decade ago it was staggering 6.46%.

Modi still has work to do, of course.

Having plugged some horrendous holes in India’s notoriously inefficient and corrupt bureaucracy in his first term, he will now need to focus much more ruthlessly on reforming those institutions and make them fit for the coming decades. This will require him to remain the pragmatic politician he is, and continue to shun the temptations of populism as he sets out his stall for a second term.

Economically, he must deliver on his promise to create the world’s largest start-up eco-system, thereby further unleashing India’s fabled entrepreneurial gene.

“We incubated chicks; they hatched. That is what gave me the idea of the story,” shared Sankalp in a matterof-fact manner. Sankalp’s entry was the top choice in 138 entries.

Their entries were one of the top three in their respective grades.

Each one was invited to read out aloud their stories and poems in front of an appreciative audience of fellow participants, parents, grandparents and friends at the Austin Central Library on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Children from kindergarten through fifth grade are encouraged to write and illustrate stories and submit them to KLRU. All children who enter the contest have their story published on the KLRU Writers Competition website. This was the competition’s tenth year.

The same terrorists who attacked the Chabad Synagogue in California last month allegedly set fire to a nearby mosque.

You know the attacks on Muslims are the same as the ones Jews face every single day.

And that Anti Semitism and Islamophobia are two sides of the same bigoted coin.

The rise to hate goes beyond just our communities… Three black churches in Lousiana were set on fire.

A civil rights center in Tennessee was burned down and a Hindu temple in Kentucky was vandalized.

Attacks and hates are linked and we must confront them together.

It is through strength and unity we push back and that is what this night is about.

Mayor Adler and the Muslim community leaders knew that the best way to push back when people seek to divide our community is by coming together by affirming that there is more that unites us than divides.

We saw that when Muslim American organizations raised nearly $200,000 to support the victims and families of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

And we saw that in March, when our brothers and sisters in the Jewish communities from the city of Pittsburgh raised money to support the New Zealand Muslim community in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shooting.

Every time we feel threatened, we show up with love and others standing with us.

We say, together that we will not be terrorized, that we are strong and resilient, that we will always show up because we know that we just like everyone else in this country has a right to a dignified life.

As Americans we must all stand together to reject hate and [in supporting] one another in order to create a country and culture of unity and justice.

So my message tonight is to not let the hate around us divide us, that we shall walk with love because ultimately love trumps hate and in true Ramadan fashion to remember those less fortunate than us and to continue building community

We see it every single day whether it is this particular administration …that push for a cynical big America, that turn their face on symbol of liberty, people who think that this country belongs to a particular people and not to all of us.

I ask all of you to unite to educate people, to awaken people to what it means to live an inclusive and united America, what it means for us to see our diversity as strength, to recognize, for only in this country is possible for a refugee to arrive at the age of 12 to serve the US Congress.

That the immigrants they belittle today were not that much different than the immigrant that their families were.

I get emotional every time people speak about immigrants and refugees…

I see [us] as an asset to this country.

And in the true fashion of saying that immigrants get the job done, I am in congress to get the job done.

Background of Citywide Iftar: In 2015 when two young Muslim women experienced Islamophobia and bigoted comments at Kerby Lane Café on Guadalupe, Kumail Hasan, the founder of United Muslim Relief at UT Austin, took a delegation of Austin Muslim Civic Ambassadors to meet Mayor Steve Adler.

“I felt it was incredibly important to have the Mayor’s support at all times and all circumstances,” said Hasan as he recounted the increase in hate speech against Muslims at the time. He continued, “There was a gap.

I pitched the idea [of citywide Iftar] to bridge the gap to promote the idea that it is important for Muslims to be a part of the local government.”

1. A caregiver forgetting a child in

3. Someone knowingly leaving a child in the vehicle: There is no safe amount of time to leave a child in a vehicle, even if you are just running a quick errand. Even on mild or cloudy days, temperatures inside vehicles can reach life-threatening levels. Leaving windows slightly open doesn’t help. Children should never be left unattended in a vehicle.

Acquaint yourself and anyone who cares for your child with free resources providing vital information about vehicular heatstroke.

Amber Fort

Amer Fort is a fort located in Amer, Rajasthan, India. Amer is a town with an area of 4 square kilometres (1.5 sq mi) located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.

Located high on a hill, it is the principal tourist attraction in Jaipur. The town of Amer was originally built by Meenas, and later it was ruled by Raja Man Singh I. Amer Fort is known for its artistic style elements. With its large ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks Maota Lake, which is the main source of water for the Amer Palace.
