Andamans Crucial For US-India Maritime Strategy Against China: Experts WASHINGTON, DC-India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located strategically at the mouth of the Strait of Malacca, are emerging as a pivotal strategic asset for US–India maritime cooperation, experts told American lawmakers.

During a hearing on the US–India strategic partnership before the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on South and Central Asia on December 10, Jeff Smith of the Heritage Foundation stated that the islands constitute “an extremely valuable asset for any country,” giving India unmatched visibility over one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints.

“I would like to see even more US and Indian cooperation around that location,” he said, urging expanded

intelligence-sharing and surveillance integration.

Smith told lawmakers that China began sending submarines into

the Indian Ocean a r o u n d 2013–14, describing B e i j i n g ’s claims that these were anti-piracy missions as implausible.

Witnesses argued that maritime cooperation will be central to countering China’s Indo-Pacific strategy. Committee Chairman Bill Huizenga warned that China’s “string of pearls” is “an overt attempt to encircle and control the Indian Ocean,” and said ensuring free sea lanes is critical for global economic stability.

India Elected Unopposed To UN Human Rights Council NEW YORK, NY -India has been elected unopposed to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the seventh time to a three-year term starting next year, with a pledge to be a bridgebuilder.

After India’s election by the General Assembly was announced on October 15, Permanent Representative P Harish said, “This election reflects India’s unwavering commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

Making its nomination, India said its candidature “is a reflection of India’s dedication to advancing the principles of human rights globally, fostering dialog and bridging divides to achieve collective progress.” “India’s enduring philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva kutumbakam’ (‘The world is one family’) underscores its unwavering commitment to global unity, openness and mutual respect,” it said. India also noted that its commitment to human rights is rooted in its constitution that “guarantees the fundamental rights of its citizens and promotes the ideals of justice, liberty and equality.”

The Geneva-based 47-member HRC is the main UN body promoting and protecting human rights around the world, reviewing the situation in member countries, and providing a forum to discuss issues.

The seats are distributed by region, and Asia-Pacific nations get 17 seats, with four of them up for election this year under the rotation system. Although India was unopposed for one of the four Asia-Pacific group seats, in the proforma voting held under the rules, it obtained 177 votes out of the 188 cast.

India last served on the HRC in 2024, completing a second consecutive term. Since countries are not allowed to serve more than two consecutive terms, India took a break this year and contested for the term starting next year.

When a child is born or serious illness strikes, workers need time off, but for millions of Americans, it’s not that simple.

In Mississippi, a new law grants state government employees up to six weeks of paid parental leave and in Alabama, recently passed legislation provides up to eight weeks of paid leave for state employees and K-12 educators.

Researchers say that the plastic industry, retailers, prominent plasticreliant brands, and related trade associations are retracting their

4 large egg whites 2 large eggs 1/4 cup fat-free milk 1 1/2 tablespoons fat-free feta cheese Preheat oven to 400 F. Lightly spray 9-inch pie pan with nonstick cooking spray.

In medium bowl, using box grater, grate sweet potato. Measure out 2 cups. Gently press sweet potato on bottom and up sides of pan, forming crust. Sweet potato will be loose but will hold together once cooked.

Bake 20 minutes, or until crust is cooked. Remove from oven. Let stand to cool. Reduce oven temperature to 350 F. In medium skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat, swirling to coat bottom. Cook onion 6 minutes, or until almost translucent, stirring frequently. Add turkey bacon.

Cook 3-4 minutes, or until onion and bacon begin to brown, stirring frequently. Add spinach, dillweed, salt and pepper. Cook 1-2 minutes, or until water from spinach is released. Remove from heat. Transfer mixture into sweet potato crust.

In medium bowl, whisk egg whites, eggs and milk. Pour over mixture in crust. Sprinkle feta over top.

Bake 35-40 minutes, or until knife inserted into center comes out clean. Transfer to cooling rack. Let cool 10 minutes before cutting into wedges.

Technology is changing the way patients receive treatment in many aspects of medicine. That is also true when it comes to mental health. PDTs are health softwares, delivered using a device such as a smartphone or computer, to treat or alleviate a condition, disorder, disease or injury.

This type of treatment may need

Speaking at a White House roundtable with leading technology CEOs on December 10, Trump said the initiative would give firms “certainty” in hiring highly trained international students, many of whom face years-long immigration hurdles despite graduating at the top of their class. “You graduate, number one from your college, and there’s no way of guaranteeing… there’s no way of guaranteeing that they’re able to stay in the country,” he said. “They have to go back to India, they have to go back to China, they have to go back to France.”

Shampoo: It originated in India.

The word shampoo comes from Hindi word chāmpo and dates back to 1762.

Shampoo originated in the eastern regions of the Mughal Empire where it was introduced as a head massage, usually consisting of natural oils, alkali and fragrances.

It was first introduced in Britain by a Bengali entrepreneur from Bihar named Sake Dean Mahomed.

Buttons: Indians were the first ones to invent and use buttons. Indus Valley Civilization by 2000 BCE were using ornamental buttons made from seashells; some having various geometric shapes with holes in them.

Few countries can match India’s amazing contribution to the world in so many diverse fields spanning thousands of years. Unfortunately, the West has failed to give enough credit to India and its genius.

pinch salt and pepper.

Mix and add fresh cilantro. Keep a few leaves for garnish.

In hot frying pan, drizzle with olive oil then sear scallops 1 minute on each side.

Remove scallops from pan then deglaze with reserved Florida Grapefruit juice. Let it simmer slightly and add butter to make sauce.

Add 1/8 teaspoon salt and pepper.

Place 1 tablespoon fennel salad in washed shell, top with three scallops and coat with grapefruit butter.

Finish with reserved cilantro leaves and fresh grapefruit segments.

Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Set aside. Vinaigrette will keep 7 days in refrigerator.

Florida Citrus Vinaigrette: 1/3 cup Florida Grapefruit Juice 1/3 cup Florida Orange Juice 2 teaspoons orange zest 2 tablespoons cider vinegar 2 teaspoons honey 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 1/3 cup olive oil 2 tablespoons shallots sea salt, to taste fresh pepper, to taste

To make pickled onion: Place sliced onion in airtight canning jar.

Pickled Onion: 1 red onion, thinly sliced 1/2 cup white vinegar or cider vinegar 1/2 cup water 1 tablespoon sugar 1 teaspoon salt

To make burrata salad: In bowl, combine Florida Grapefruit and Orange segments; add radish sticks, toasted pistachios, arugula and dill. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Burrata Salad:

In small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar and salt. Bring to boil and pour over sliced onion in jar. Add small amount of water to completely cover onion.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving.

Pickled onions will keep 15 days in refrigerator.

Place salad on large plate, top with coarsely chopped burrata and drizzle generously with citrus vinaigrette and pickled onion.

IDEAYA—Immigrants for Development and Education of Austin Youth AID, Inc.— is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2010, dedicated to helping students achieve their educational goals through scholarships and mentorship.

This year, I had the privilege of assisting with IDEAYA’s annual scholarship award ceremony. In 2025, IDEAYA awarded seven scholarships, five of which were received in person at the ceremony.

Watching students walk up to the stage— some the first in their families to pursue higher education, others balancing jobs, hardships, or cultural expectations—left me both speechless and deeply inspired.

Many of these students are continuing their

education at institutions such as IBEW-NECA and Austin Electrical JATC, preparing themselves for skilled careers and stable futures.

IDEAYA does more than provide financial support; it gives students confidence and belief in their own potential. What makes this organization especially impactful is that 100% of donations go directly toward scholarships.

All overhead costs are kept minimal and are covered entirely by volunteers, ensuring that every contribution makes a direct difference in a student’s life.

ISRO To Launch American Satellite NEW DELHI- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch the 6.5-tonne BlueBird-6 satellite of the US on December 15.

The BlueBird 6 communications satellite, developed by the US-based AST SpaceMobile, will be launched on board India’s most powerful rocket, LVM3.

This is the second collaboration between the US and ISRO. In July, the ISRO successfully launched the billion NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar Mission (NISAR), aimed at taking high-resolution Earth scans with a capacity to penetrate through fogs, dense clouds, and ice layers.

It is one of the heaviest commercial satellites, weighing tones. The Low Earth Orbit satellite arrived in India from the US on October 19.

“BlueBird 6, a US-licensed satellite, is scheduled to launch on December 15th from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in India,” the company said in a statement.

Dharmendra, One of Bollywood’s Top Leading Men, Dies at 89

By Jin Yu Young and Pragati K.B. Dharmendra, a Bollywood actor of easygoing machismo who became one of India’s most versatile stars, playing swoon-worthy romantic leads, flashy action heroes and witty comics in a career spanning nearly seven decades, died on Monday in Mumbai. He was 89.

The cause was not immediately clear, but he had been in and out of the hospital recently with ailments, according to local news media outlets that reported his death. His family was not available to comment.

Dharmendra, nicknamed He-Man for his rugged appeal, appeared in more than 300 productions. He started in romance dramas aimed at mostly female audiences in the early 1960s but soon shifted to male-oriented action fare, which remained one of his primary genres amid forays into comedy.

His best-remembered films included “Phool Aur Patthar” (1966), in which he played a virile but softhearted criminal; “Mera Gaon Mera Desh” (1971), in which his character transforms from a thief to village protector; “Chupke Chupke” (1975), a blockbuster romantic comedy of errors in which he portrayed a professor who disguises himself as a driver as part of an elaborate practical joke; and “Sholay” (1975), an action-adventure in which he played one of two petty criminals, the other portrayed

This month, the entertainment journalist Rajiv Vijayakar, who wrote a biography of the actor, said in an interview, “There’s no role he cannot do,” adding, “You cannot slot him into a pigeonhole.”

By Dharmendra’s own telling, he was least comfortable when asked to dance, although by most accounts he acquitted himself admirably in “Pratiggya” (1975), in which he created impromptu steps.

“I used to tell the director bluntly that I don’t understand the meaning of dance,” he told the Indian newspaper The Sunday Guardian.

“I used to catch the rhythm. I did my own thing, and the dance steps became famous.”

Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol was born on Dec. 8, 1935, in the Punjab region of British-ruled India. He grew up in the village of Sahnewal, where his father was a school headmaster.

Dharmendra said he was mesmerized as a child watching “Shaheed,” a 1948 romantic drama set amid Indian independence and starring Dilip Kumar. It made him want to become an actor, he said.

“My big dream and prayer to God was my pictures being there everywhere, just like my idols were seen all over,” he told Mr. Vijayakar in a 2009 newspaper interview. “I was not bothered whether I earned

no money, little money, or a lot.

My goal was very simple — one flat and one Fiat!” (He eventually owned a fleet of luxury cars.)

He said that his father had discouraged him from acting, hoping that he would follow him into teaching instead, but that his mother had been more encouraging. He supported himself initially as a mechanic for a drilling company before winning a talent contest organized by an entertainment magazine.

A Pakistani viewer has shared a positive review of Dhurandhar praising the film, but finding fault with its depiction of Akshaye Khanna’s Rehman Dakait.

A Pakistani social media user, originally from Karachi, has reviewed the Bollywood film Dhurandhar, which is set in his hometown and tells the story of the gangs of Karachi’s Lyari Town. In their review, the anonymous viewer praised the film for its direction and cinematography, but added that the glorification of real-life gangster Rehman Dakait left them uneasy.

Pak man reviews Dhurandhar Taking to Reddit, the viewer shared their review of Dhurandhar with the title: “My take on Dhurandar as a guy from Karachi (sic).” They began with praise for the film, writing, “First of all, I liked the film.

Cinematography was great, direction was amazing. It was a good watch.”

However, the review then added

James Cameron To Rajamouli: I’d Love To Watch You Create Your Magic

HYDERABAD-Hollywood director James Cameron has now expressed a desire to visit the sets of director S. S. Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Varanasi’, featuring Telugu star Mahesh Babu in the lead, and see the ace director create his magic.

Cameron made this request during a conversation he had with Rajamouli after the latter watched Cameron’s eagerly awaited entertainer ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, which is to hit screens worldwide on December 19 this year.

Right at the beginning of the conversation, Cameron thanked Rajamouli for agreeing to watch and discuss his film and said, “Thank you so much for doing this. I think it’s important for filmmakers to talk and compare similarities in their mental creative process and in their techniques and so on. I’d love to come to your set. May I come to your set sometime and watch you create your magic?”

Rajamouli said yes and went on to give an update on the status of the film. He said, “It’s almost a year now and another seven, eight months to go. Yes, we are in the middle of the shoot.” Cameron replied, “Okay, plenty of time. Well, tell me when you’re doing something fun. I don’t know, something with tigers.”

‘Varanasi’ is a film that is being directed by S. S. Rajamouli, featuring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj in the lead.

The title of the film was revealed at a grand event organized at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad in the presence of several thousand excited fans last month.

The event, being hailed as a oncein-a-generation spectacle, saw fans in the thousands turning up for the event, making it one of the largest live fan congregations ever seen in the Indian entertainment space.
