Mango Moments: How To Enjoy The “It” Fruit Year-Round

Does it seem like mangos are everywhere you look? You’re not imagining it! From carts to menus, consumers can’t get enough mango, fueling a viral craze with new creations hitting shelves and restaurants daily.

In fact, Circana’s Dole Panel of total U.S. outlets (General Food and Frozen Departments; L52 WE 1/25/25) shows that 54% of U.S. consumers who shop the frozen or general food departments buy mango items, and 86% of those buyers make a repeat purchase.

“More and more people are looking for bold fruit flavors that ex-

cite, and mango hits at the heart of that,” says Mike Secor, vice president, Marketing at Dole Packaged Foods.

“By picking and packing them at peak ripeness, their vibrant, tropical goodness can be enjoyed well beyond mango season throughout the year.”

According to chefs, the appeal of mangos is all about versatility.

83% Of Indian Patients Carry Drug-Resistant Organisms: Report

NEW DELHI -More than 80 per cent of Indian patients carry multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), the highest globally, according to an alarming study released on November 18. This reflects the deep antibiotic resistance crisis in the country.

The large-scale international study, published in the Lancet eClinical Medicine journal, warned that India is at the epicenter of a superbug explosion. Several patients in the country were found to carry multiple highly resistant organisms simultaneously.

The study, released on the first day of the WHO’s World AMR Awareness Week (November 1824), called for immediate policy changes and a national movement on antibiotic stewardship.

The multicenter study analyzed over 1,200 patients across India, Italy, the Netherlands, and the US, all undergoing a common endoscopic procedure.

In India, 83 per cent of patients carried MDROs, making it the highest. In Italy, 31.5 per cent carried MDROs, while in the US it was 20.1 per cent and in the Netherlands 10.8 per cent.

The resistant bacteria discovered in Indian participants included 70.2 per cent with ESBL producing or-

ganisms, which means common antibiotics won’t work.

A staggering 23.5 per cent had carbapenem-resistant bacteria, which are resistant even to last-resort antibiotics. While CPE was nearly absent in the Netherlands, it was found to be rare in the US.

Conditions linked to higher MDRO prevalence included chronic lung disease, congestive heart failure, recent penicillin use, and frequent hospital admissions or prior procedures.

The presence of MDROs forces hospitals to use stronger and more toxic drugs, prolongs recovery, increases the risk of complications, and leads to substantially higher treatment costs, said authors from AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad.

For India, where nearly 58,000 newborn deaths each year are

linked to resistant infections, and where untreatable bacteria are frequently encountered in ICUs and cancer centers, the study provides “unmistakable evidence that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a national health emergency,” the researchers said.Buy vitamins and supplements

To curb AMR, they recommended that healthcare professionals and citizens use and prescribe antibiotics more carefully and responsibly, so they remain effective for longer.

Further, regulating sales of prescription-only drugs, routine preprocedural screening, and considering single-use devices for high-risk patients to avoid transmission can be helpful to tackle the AMR burden. (IANS)

(Continued From Page 01)

Trump highlighted his positive relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and termed India one of America’s most “important international relationships.”

He called India “a big deal,” home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, and the largest country in the world.

“I’m trusting Sergio to help strengthen one of our country’s most important international relationships, and that’s the strategic partnership with the Republic of India,” Trump noted, adding that he has a “fantastic relationship with Prime Minister Modi.”

The President further described India as an “amazing country” that is an “important economic and stra-

tegic security partner in the IndoPacific region,” citing its fastestgrowing middle class.

Gor was sworn in by Vice President JD Vance. Senior members of the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, attended the ceremony in the Oval Office of the White House.

Vance also congratulated Gor, stating that he and President Trump “love” India.

“You’re going to be a great ambassador and a great representative to the country of India, which the President and I both love,” Vance added.

Gor thanked Trump for the nomi-

nation and vowed to enhance the relationship between the two nations.

“I’ve been at your side for many

years, and I will continue to be there, and it’s just an incredible honor, and I look forward to enhancing the relationship between our two nations,” Gor emphasized.

Confirmed by a Senate vote in October, the 38-year-old Gor is the youngest US ambassador to India.

He is one of Trump’s closest aides and previously served as the Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, where he was tasked with vetting more than 4,000 posts in the new administration. (IANS)

Give Your Skin A Seasonal Glow With Winter Care Tips

As your sun-kissed glow gives way to crisp winter air, your skin may start to feel the effects of cooler, drier weather. Yet, with the right care, it’s possible to maintain that healthy, luminous look all season long.

Winter skin care isn’t about adding complexity – it’s about preserving hydration, protecting the barrier and choosing products that nurture instead of strip. Rooted in the century-old European tradition of natural botanical skin care, the experts at Herbacin aim to show that radiant skin is achievable year-round with just a few mindful adjustments to your daily routine.

Skip Long, Hot Showers

A steaming shower may feel heavenly on a chilly morning, but the heat can actually pull moisture from your skin. To keep your complexion balanced, choose warm (not hot) water and limit shower time. Gentle cleansing helps maintain the skin’s natural oils, which are vital for keeping dryness and irritation at bay.

Lock In Moisture Immediately

After showering, pat skin lightly with a towel and apply lotion while it’s still slightly damp. This simple step helps trap water before it evaporates. Look for a lightweight, fast-absorbing formula enriched with natural

emollients. A trusted choice like Herbacin

Daily Moisturizing Lotion combines nourishing jojoba oil and shea butter to soften and hydrate.

Aloe vera and chamomile calm irritation while leaving a light, refreshing scent. Suitable for all skin types, it delivers lasting softness without any greasy feel – perfect for daily use from head to toe.

Ease Up on Exfoliation

When your skin feels rough or flaky, it’s tempting to exfoliate frequently. However, over-exfoliating can remove the skin’s pro-

tective barrier and worsen dryness. Instead, use a gentle scrub or enzymatic exfoliant no more than once or twice a week and always follow with moisturizer to soothe and restore balance.

Layer for Maximum Hydration

Layering products allows each formula to do its job effectively. Start with the thinnest, most water-based product – such as a hydrating serum or lightweight moisturizer – and finish with a richer cream to seal it all in.

For a deep-moisture boost, try Herbacin Skin Solutions Daily Skin Moisturizer, formulated with a hydro-boosting complex featuring hyaluronic acid, myo-inositol and fucose biopolymer.

This quick-absorbing, silky-soft lotion provides long-lasting hydration – up to 24 hours – and helps soothe even sensitive or irritated skin. Plus, its airless dispenser keeps the formula fresh and easy to use.

Choose a Thicker Moisturizer for Extra Protection

Winter’s cold winds and low humidity can weaken your skin’s barrier. A richer, creambased moisturizer creates a protective layer that locks in moisture and shields against environmental stressors. Even those with oily or combination skin can benefit as the right moisturizer helps balance oil production and prevents dehydration.

Don’t Ditch the Sunscreen

Sun protection isn’t just for summer. Winter UV rays can still damage skin and contribute to premature aging. Apply sunscreen daily to exposed areas, such as your face, neck and

hands, especially when spending time outdoors. Reapply as directed for continuous protection.

Add a Little Light

Emerging research supports the benefits of red light therapy, which helps stimulate collagen production and improve circulation. The result is firmer, more resilient skin that holds moisture better and appears more radiant.

Keep the Air Comfortable

Indoor heating can sap moisture from the air – and your skin. Maintaining an indoor humidity level between 30-50% supports not only skin health but also respiratory comfort. If your home’s air feels overly dry, consider adding a humidifier to your bedroom or main living space.

From a quick morning shower to evening self-care, small daily choices can have a big impact on your skin’s health – no matter how cold it gets outside. Discover more seasonal skin-care tips and explore the full collection at herbacinusa.com.

Projected To Cross $100 Billion By 2030

(Continued From Page 01)

The government has recognized the industry as a high-potential segment within the services economy. It is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of about 7 per cent, reaching approximately Rs 3,067 billion by 2027. “The national outlook envisions this ecosystem scaling up to $100 billion by 2030, signaling a decisive shift from a content-consuming nation to a global creator and exporter of intellectual property,” it said. With its gross value-added share steadily increasing over the last decade, the sector contributes significantly to both value addition and job creation across the country.

India holds a 40 to 60 per cent cost advantage in animation and Visual Effects (VFX) services, supported by a large, skilled workforce. According to the official statement,

“This comparative edge has attracted a steady inflow of international projects and positioned India as a preferred destination for global post-production work.”

Furthermore, Indian stories are successfully building emotional and cultural connections across continents, with nearly 25 per cent of the total viewership for Indian Over-TheTop (OTT) content originating from overseas audiences.

The government noted that the formal recognition of the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality sector is a key factor behind the creative resurgence. In the AVGC -XR sector, technology, storytelling, and innovation converge, defining the next chapter of the country’s media and entertainment growth. (IANS)

The campus will also include yoga and meditation spaces, fitness and activity rooms, cultural gathering areas, a peaceful community temple, and opportunities for group trips, satsangs, and social events. Everything is designed to support holistic wellbeing— physical, emotional, and spiritual.

One of the most compelling aspects of this project is its limited availability. Only 35 residences will be offered in the first phase, and organizers expect strong demand from Austin’s large and deeply connected Indian population.

“We have seen how transformative ShantiNiketan has been for seniors in Florida,” said Iggy Ignatius, Founder and Chairman of ShantiNiketan. “Our goal is to recreate that same sense of family, familiarity, and joy for Indian seniors in Texas.”

At the November 29th meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the community’s architectural plans, amenities, eligibility, and pricing.

They will also get insights into the day-today lifestyle that ShantiNiketan residents enjoy. Speakers include Iggy Ignatius, Prateek Sharma, and Hari Kuppuraj, who will address questions about community life, booking timelines, and the long-term vision for ShantiNiketan Texas.

The organizers encourage all interested families—whether planning for themselves or for their parents—to attend the session and secure their place early. With ShantiNiketan’s strong reputation and Austin’s unprecedented population growth, the limited number of residences may fill quickly.

The event is free to attend, but RSVP is required. Attendees can register by scanning the QR code or using the link https://forms. gle/JqrRAYYgRfHZSXrv5

Is A Nebulizer Right For Your Chronic Lung Disease?

If you’re one of the 35 million people living with a chronic lung disease in the United States, the form of treatment you receive can impact your health outcomes and quality of life.

That’s why the American Lung Association has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the potential benefits of nebulized therapy, and aims to encourage conversations between health care providers and patients. Here they are providing answers to some frequently asked questions:

What are nebulizers? A nebulizer converts liquid medicine into a mist that you inhale to get medicine deep into the lungs. It can be used if you have a disease such as asthma, COPD or bronchiectasis.

What are the benefits of nebulizers? Nebulizers can deliver all classes of medication to treat all stages of chronic lung disease, in-

cluding certain medications only available via nebulizer. Most insurance companies provide a nebulizer and the nebulized medica-

tion may be a more affordable option to treat your lung disease. Plus, they are easy to clean, maintain and use. Multiple studies show that people living with chronic lung disease fail to use their inhalers properly and therefore, are not getting the optimal dose of medicine to treat their disease. Like driving a car with a manual transmission, inhaler technique can be complicated to learn. For example, some inhalers require breathing out completely first, inhaling at the right pace, ac-

Have A Lung Disease? Free Support Is Available

There is a lot to manage after a lifechanging diagnosis. Navigating your treatment plan, appointments and care can be overwhelming and complicated.

The good news is that if you are living with a chronic lung disease, such as asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, support is available.

To help you lead a healthier, more active and fulfilling life, the American Lung Association has partnered with Alteas Health to raise awareness about steps you can take to better manage your chronic lung disease, and where you can turn to for trusted education and support.

Find a lung specialist you trust. Working with a lung specialist, also called a pulmonologist, and healthcare team who know your health history and provide continuity of care can help improve your health outcomes. Your specialist can help tailor a treatment plan that works best for you. It is important to follow your treatment plan, go to regularly scheduled appointments and take steps to reduce your risk of flare-ups. Talk to your primary care provider about a referral to a specialist.

Build community. A strong support network is associated with better emotional health, a higher quality of life and more effective self-management of your disease. American Lung Association Better Breathers Clubs have connected people living with chronic lung disease, along with their family members and caregivers, to information and support for more than 50 years.

Expertly guided by trained facilitators, meetings offer an engaging blend of guest speakers, interactive problem-solving sessions and social activities, and no two sessions are alike. Joe, a club member, says “I learn something at every Better Breathers Club meeting.”

Regularly scheduled meetings are available inperson at locations throughout the United States and online, and are valued not only by patients, but among caregivers as well.

“The Better Breathers Club offers our pulmonary patients a sense of community and understanding while empowering them with education and practical tools to better manage their lung disease. It transforms learning into connection, helping residents breathe easier and thrive within the comfort of their skilled nursing setting,” says Kim Brown, an Alteas Health team member.

Ask if pulmonary rehabilitation is right for you. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a structured program of education and exercise designed to help you better understand your lungs and your condition. Through

tivating the inhaler at just the right time, and holding your breath for 5-10 seconds after each dose. A nebulizer however is more akin to driving a car with automatic transmission. When you use a nebulizer, the directions are simple – breathe normally. That’s why nebulizers can be an especially effective alternative for young children, older adults, those who struggle to use an inhaler and those who require a higher dose of medication to effectively manage their symptoms.

Can you rely on nebulizers while traveling and in emergencies? Fortunately, it is easy to travel with a nebulizer. While some nebulizers are stationary and plug into an outlet, newer, smaller and portable nebulizers can be plugged into an outlet, car adaptor or operated with a battery pack, making them handy not only during travel, but also in power outages and emergencies.

the program, you’ll build skills to exercise with less shortness of breath and gain practical tips to improve your quality of life. In fact, pulmonary rehabilitation is where many patients learn about other avenues of support. “I was in pulmonary rehab and heard about Better Breathers Club and I started coming, and haven’t stopped!” says Joyce, who is living with COPD.

Connect with customized support. American Lung Association Lung Health Navigators are registered nurses, respiratory therapists, and certified tobacco treatment specialists who provide free, customized one-on-one education and support for individuals and their loved ones facing lung diseases. They are committed to helping you understand your diagnosis, explore treatment options and connect with resources. To reach a Lung Health Navigator, call 1-866-252-2959 or submit a request at Lung.org/navigator.

You don’t have to face a chronic lung disease alone. Ongoing support and education available in the form of pulmonary rehabilitation, support groups and more, can help you better manage your disease.

(StatePoint)

When flying, check with the airline on how to properly pack your nebulizer, and if you’re traveling out of the country, make sure you have the appropriate adapter so your device will be compatible with power outlets at your destination. For a stationary device, it’s important to have a backup plan like a generator so that you can use your device if the power goes out.

What resources are available to learn more about nebulizers? The American Lung Association hosts numerous patient resources on its site, including videos on how to use and clean a nebulizer. New resources for healthcare providers, including a hub to access nebulized therapy videos and tools, are provided in partnership with Verona, Viatris and Theravance Biopharma. For more information and to access these resources, visit Lung. org/nebulizer.

At the end of the day, determining if a nebulizer is a good treatment option for you starts with a conversation between you and your healthcare provider. The most important thing is knowing how to properly take your medication –via nebulizer or inhaler – so that you get the best possible relief from your symptoms. (StatePoint)

Helping Patients Who Don’t Respond To Common Bladder Cancer Treatment

The bladder cancer treatment landscape is rapidly evolving, particularly for patients who don’t respond to bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG), the most common intravesical immunotherapy for earlystage bladder cancer.

However, as options expand, clinicians face added complexity in individualizing treatment paths, and in knowing what’s working.

Fortunately, during evaluation and follow-up, they can lean on various enhanced diagnostic technologies, including approaches such as Blue Light Cystoscopy (BLC), to support timely adjustments in treatment.

Bladder-Sparing Therapies

or in patients for whom cystectomy may not be the best choice, most regimens include a series of treatments over time, along with regular cystoscopic evaluations.

Bladder-sparing therapies are offering new treatment avenues, potentially delaying or avoiding cystectomy for some patients. These therapies are aimed at managing the cancer while preventing the need to remove the bladder.

Therapies include liquid treatments put directly into the bladder, such as immunotherapy and chemotherapy, biologic agents and gene-based therapies, and devices that support or optimize drug delivery to the bladder lining.

Often considered after BCG fails

Treatment Sequencing Multidisciplinary teams, which could include urologists, medical oncologists, pathologists and oncology nurses, may be involved in planning and monitoring a patient’s treatment.

Treatment sequencing typically involves starting with one therapy, then switching therapies if clear evidence suggests a limited response to the treatment.

The medical team will assess tumor characteristics, prior treatments,

and factors such as the patient’s logistics and goals, to determine the best next step. Ultimately, eligibility for bladder-sparing approaches varies based on the disease profile and available clinical evidence.

The Role of Diagnostics

Evaluating treatment response in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) often relies on cystoscopic findings that may be subtle or difficult to interpret.

BLC however, is an enhanced visualization technique that uses an optical imaging agent and a combination of white and blue light to highlight abnormal bladder tissue, supporting clinicians in assessing the bladder lining and providing

insight into treatment effectiveness.

Although this diagnostic method does not treat or prevent disease, it does offer numerous benefits. It can define the borders of lesions during transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBTs) and support visualization during routine surveillance cystoscopies.

And because it can be used to evaluate whether BCG or subsequent therapies are achieving their intended responses, it can enable doctors to quickly decide whether they should continue treatment asis, make adjustments, or move to other therapies.

Additionally, BLC helps document baseline disease features prior to starting therapy, may improve visual assessment of tissue changes over time, and aids in guiding tissue sampling, ensuring all visible tumors are identified and removed during procedures like TURBT.

With enhanced visualization, patients and their care teams can have more informed discussions about results and next steps.

Patient Conversations

Patients seeking productive discussions with their healthcare team can start by asking the following questions:

• How quickly can decisions be made to adjust therapies if BCG doesn’t work, and what treatments might be appropriate?

• How do you evaluate whether a therapy is doing what it should?

• Would enhanced imaging be helpful?

• What’s the plan if this approach doesn’t show the desired results?

Information about locations that offer BLC can be found by visiting https://rebrand.ly/BLClocations.

Bladder-sparing strategies are creating more personalized options for patients, and enhanced diagnostic tools are helping lead the way.

Patients should never hesitate to ask their team how they use diagnostic tools to guide care, and what their options look like based on their specific case.

What To Consider When Choosing A Window Replacement Company

If you’re like most homeowners, window replacement isn’t something that you have tons of experience with.

That’s why choosing a company that will do the job right while communicating with you throughout the entire process is just as important as choosing the right windows. But with so many options, how do you find a company you can trust?

To help you feel confident and happy with your decision, here are the essential factors to consider, and the key questions to ask when hiring a window replacement company:

Look for Certified Installers: Even the best products would mean little without a professional installation. Proper installation can mean reduced heating and cooling costs and long-lasting windows.

That’s because every home is unique and installation is a matter of expertly fitting windows into your home. Don’t settle for anything less than a Certified Master Installer who comes with extensive experience, along with knowledge of construction materials, local building codes and

installation methods.

Don’t Let Bugs Ruin Your Holiday Season

As the weather cools, we’re not the only ones heading indoors. When temperatures drop, flying insects like fruit flies, gnats, and house flies often seek shelter inside, especially during the holidays when your home becomes the center of cooking, hosting, and celebrating life’s moments, big and small.

To keep flying insects from interrupting your celebrations, Zevo’s Compact Flying Insect Trap offers easy plug-in protection, letting you focus on hosting and festive moments.

“It can take just one week for two fruit flies to multiply into 500,” said Rob Reinerman, Vice President of Procter & Gamble Ventures, parent company of Zevo, a line of worryfree pest solutions.

“It’s important to make sure you have your Zevo trap plugged in and ready, so a fly doesn’t interrupt your holiday hosting plans this season.”

This holiday season, celebrate with confidence by following these sim-

ple tips:

24/7 Continuous Protection: Innovative solutions make it easy to protect your holiday spread and host loved ones with less stress.

The trap uses blue and UV light technology to attract and trap flying insects on an adhesive cartridge.

Worry-Free Moments & Memories: From family meals to gift exchanges, the last thing anyone wants is a fly buzzing by. With the trap

working quietly in the background, you can focus on what matters most.

The small but mighty device attracts and kills 99.9% of trapped bugs, helping maintain a peaceful environment for every gathering.

Simple habits also go a long way. Wash dishes or load them into the machine as you go, and after guests leave, sweep or vacuum under the table to catch crumbs and deter pests.

Be Alert To Scammers While Traveling For The Holidays

Holiday season travelers are a key target for scammers, and criminals are looking to cash in on you being distracted.

Visa has observed an uptick in 2025 of sophisticated, travelrelated scams where well-known travel providers are convincingly impersonated, and, according to a McAfee Travel Report, one in five Americans has fallen victim to a travel scam.

Artificial intelligence has made it

easier to be duped by fake websites, calls, email and texts.

Even just ordering car service can open you up to being scammed by impersonators that may contact you directly through an otherwise trusted app.

Here are scams to watch for while traveling:

If you plug a phone or laptop into a public charging station, hackers can potentially compromise the outlet to transfer malware to or steal data from a connected device.

Hacked Luggage. Smart luggage with built-in USB chargers, GPS tracking and digital locks can be hacked. Scammers can locate your bags and unlock them remotely.

Maintaining vigilance is the best way to avoid trouble while traveling, but here are some additional preventative measures you can take:

• Apply Scrutiny. Be suspicious of anyone emailing, calling, messaging or approaching you in person, possibly in a company uniform, claiming to need your personal information.

• Take Control. Keep your personal information, payment cards and devices with you under your control.

• Verify Contact. Before responding to an email, call, text or voice message, disconnect and research contact information to verify legitimacy.

• Look for Tampering. Be leery of QR codes that appear to be affixed by a sticker. Also watch for skimming devices on gas pumps by jiggling them. If there is any movement, don’t insert your card.

• Check Websites. If you scan a QR code, a web link will appear. Review it carefully for anomalies and type in a legitimate website address rather than clicking the link.

• Charge Cautiously. Use your own charging adapter and cable instead of public USB ports.

• Secure Devices. Keep Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned off on all devices – even smart luggage – when not

in use. When using the internet, opt to connect through data roaming rather than public Wi-Fi and use a VPN whenever possible.

• Wait to Post. Don’t post your travel photos showing you are away from home until you return.

How To Use Pineapple To Elevate Your Holiday Dishes

Does holiday cooking stress you out? If so, you’re not alone! According to PWC research, 54% of people admit to feeling uptight any time they think about prepping or cooking food for holiday celebrations. Fortunately, stress-free holiday dishes can be possible with the right ingredients.

Executive chef at Dole, James Bickmore-Hutt has ideas for how to elevate your holiday dishes in preparation for the festivities. “The holiday season is such a busy time of year. It’s also a moment when people are expecting to be ‘wowed’ at mealtime. Selecting high-quality ingredients like Dole® Tropical Gold® Canned Pineapples can reduce prep work and help you deliver crowd-pleasing dishes quickly,

so you can focus on enjoying the season with loved ones.”

Why are these pineapples Chef James’ best-kept secret? Dole Tropical Gold Canned Pineapples

are handpicked at peak ripeness and are a naturally sweeter variety of pineapple. Offered in pre-cut chunks or slices with no sugar added, they help home chefs cut down on prep time without sacrificing freshly-packed flavor. Here are Chef James’ top tips for incorporating them into your seasonal fare:

• Add extra garnishes of pineapple to any holiday dish for a naturally sweet, tropical taste – no need to add extra sugar!

• Pineapples are very juicy, and you can pre-cook dessert filling on the stovetop to thicken the juices. Simply drain the liquid from the can, pour the fruit in a pan, reduce remaining liquid and then combine it with a thickener of your choice

With Unmet Need High, America Rallies For Afterschool Programs

Afterschool programs give children and youth a safe place to connect and learn after the school day ends, and research shows that programs boost students’ academic achievement and help them engage with their communities.

They help children succeed in school and in life by providing homework help, mentors, healthy snacks and meals, exposure to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and other skills, college and career prep, and more.

That’s why a million people are rallying for afterschool programs at 8,000 events across the country this fall for Lights On Afterschool 2025, an annual celebration of afterschool programming.

In Alabama, students and families enjoyed a spooky science lab with hands-on experiments, eerie activities, and hair-raising fun.

In California, families joined a Dia de los Muertos celebration to honor culture, community and afterschool programs with a book giveaway, food trucks, arts and crafts, and student performances. In Idaho, students picked apples for a local food bank at an orchard.

In Massachusetts, middle and high

school students helped younger children at a Read-a-Thon.

For the second year in a row, superstar USHER is serving as honorary chair of Lights On Afterschool.

From Niagara Falls to Washington’s Frederick Douglass Bridge to Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and elsewhere, buildings, bridges and other landmarks were lit up in yellow and blue in October to show support for afterschool programs.

“Afterschool programs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn, and give

working families peace of mind that their children are supervised and learning after the school day ends,” said Jodi Grant, executive director of the Afterschool Alliance, the nonprofit that organizes Lights On Afterschool. “But three in four kids whose parents want afterschool programs for them are being left behind because their families cannot afford or access programs.”

A 2025 study commissioned by the Afterschool Alliance found that the parents of 29.6 million children, more than half the school-age kids

before adding back in.

• Let fruit-filled desserts cool for at least two to four hours after baking to allow the filling to fully set.

• For added oomph and flavor in cocktail or mocktail batches, reserve pineapple juice from the same cans used in your food dishes, like a family-favorite pie.

This holiday season, Chef James’ guaranteed crowd-pleaser, Caramelized Pineapple Baked Brie, adds a tropical twist to a traditional spread. Ready in 40 minutes and with just six ingredients, this stress-free appetizer will make your festivities all the more memorable!

Ingredients:

• 2 tablespoons butter

• 1 can (20 ounces) Dole Tropical Gold Pineapple Chunks in 100% Pineapple Juice, drained

in the country, want afterschool programs for their children – but less than 7 million are currently enrolled. Ninety-five percent of parents with children in afterschool programs are satisfied with the program their child attends.

Yet despite the high unmet need, Lights On Afterschool this year comes amid Trump administration cuts to federal educational spending and proposals to end federal support for afterschool.

“We need more funding from government at all levels, businesses and philanthropy to make afterschool programs available to all,” Grant added. “Every child deserves access to a quality afterschool program.” (StatePoint)

• 1/4 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary

• 1 tablespoon honey, divided

• 1 package (13 ounces) round brie cheese

• 2 tablespoons chopped roasted salted pistachios

Instructions:

Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add pineapple, rosemary and 1 tablespoon honey, stirring occasionally for 6 minutes or until the pineapple is golden brown.

Line a baking sheet or small baking dish with parchment. Cut the top rind off the brie and discard, placing the remaining portion on the parchment paper.

Spoon pineapple mixture over the brie. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and drizzle with the remaining 1 teaspoon of honey before garnishing with pistachios.

To stress less in the kitchen during this year’s holiday festivities, let pre-cut pineapple take center stage for easy preparation of elevated classics. (StatePoint)

The Foundation Of Healthy Living: Why Now Is The Time To Double Down On Leafy Greens

As concerns about childhood obesity and chronic disease reach crisis levels, public health experts are urging Americans to eat more fresh produce.

For the first time in history, more children worldwide are obese than underweight – a reversal driven largely by diets dominated by ultra-processed foods and a shortage of fresh fruits and vegetables, according to UNICEF. It’s not just an issue impacting children. In the United States, adult obesity rates have hovered at approximately 40% from 2021-2023, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Fresh produce in the United States has never been safer with extensive federal requirements for leafy greens. Farmers and produce companies have also taken food safety concerns seriously, investing heav-

ily in prevention, testing and traceability systems. Many farmers and food companies voluntarily comply with industry-wide standards.

For example, in California, the Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA) sets measurable and verifiable standards for the produce industry, further enhancing food safety.

The numbers tell a compelling

story about both safety and benefits. Americans consume 130 million servings of leafy greens every day, according to the Western Growers Association. Meanwhile, the evidence linking leafy green consumption to better health outcomes continues to mount.

Research published in the journal “Neurology” found eating approximately one serving per day of leafy greens was associated with slower cognitive decline – equivalent to being 11 years younger in age. A study by the “Institute for Functional Medicine” discovered diets rich in leafy greens sparked

DNA changes that reversed biological aging by up to 3.23 years.

The cardiovascular benefits extend beyond mortality reduction. A study published in the “European Journal of Nutrition” found consuming 1.5 cups of leafy greens daily could help prevent heart disease in older adults. As has long been documented in medical literature, consuming more fruits and vegetables is associated with lower mortality rates.

“This isn’t just about adding years to your life; it’s about maintaining quality of life and independence as we age. It’s also important to remember that,” said Dr. David Acheson, a medically trained food safety expert who previously served in leadership at both the FDA and USDA.

Access to fresh produce has also

never been more convenient or varied. From bagged salads and pre-cut vegetables to ready-to-eat fresh cut fruit bowls or vegetable trays, there are countless ways to incorporate healthy foods into diets.

These options reduce barriers to healthy eating by eliminating prep time and providing portion-controlled servings that help minimize food waste while making nutritious choices more accessible. This means the real challenge is translating this abundance of fresh produce into better dietary habits and improved public health.

In a nation grappling with obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cognitive decline, doubling down on fresh produce isn’t just good advice. It’s a public health imperative. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock (Family Features)

Siddhant Bhatia’s Grammy Nom Opens Doors For Indian Spiritual Music

(Continued From Page 02)

The nominated album, ‘Sounds of Kumbh,’ is a tribute to the Maha Kumbh held in 2025 and is a landmark global music collaboration. As a new-age Indian classical singer and producer, Siddhant Bhatia brought together over 50 Indian and international artists for the project.

Siddhant Bhatia shares the nomination alongside sitarist-composer Anoushka Shankar and the Shakti Band, which is led by Shankar Mahadevan. Reflecting on working with globally acclaimed artists, including Grammy winners and nominees, Siddhant explained how these experiences shaped his artistry. He likened collaborating with senior musicians to experiencing an Upanishad, where every moment offers a lesson.

He recalled one particular session: “Working with senior artists is like experiencing an Upanishad. Every moment becomes a learning experience. Kala Ramnath, who is my godmother and one of the world’s greatest violinists, sang beautifully during our session. That’s how our track ‘Sangam’ was born—completely unexpected and magical.” (IANS) (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

US Clears $93 Million In Military Sales To India

WASHINGTON, DC – The Trump administration on November 19 cleared roughly $93 million in military sales to India, underscoring the growing defense ties between the two countries.

The State Department approved the sale of Javelin anti-tank missile systems and related equipment valued at an estimated $45.7 million, and Excalibur Projectiles for an estimated cost of $47.1 million.

According to a statement by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, an agency within the Department of War, India requested 100 FGM-148 Javelin missiles, one fly-to-buy missile, 25 command launch units, and 216 Excalibur tactical projectiles.

The statement added that the pro-

posed sale would “strengthen the India-US strategic relationship” and improve the security of a “major defense partner”.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the US-Indian strategic relationship and to improve the security of a major defense partner, which continues to be an important force for politi-

cal stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions.

The proposed sale will improve India’s capability to meet current and future threats, strengthen its homeland defense and deter regional threats,” it noted.

The sale comes weeks after Washington and New Delhi announced a 10-year defense cooperation framework aimed at expanding

collaboration in military technology, co-production, and information sharing.

On October 31, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in Kuala Lumpur, where the two leaders signed a 10-year ‘Framework for the USIndia Major Defense Partnership’, heralding a new era in deepening the defense ties between the two nations. (IANS)

Arts India US Selects 10 Emerging Artists For 2026 Lotus Fellowship

India-West Staff Reporter

NEW YORK, NY- Arts India US has announced its selection of ten emerging Indian classical performers as the 2026 Lotus

Fellows. Chosen from nearly 100 applicants nationwide, the artists will participate in a yearlong program designed to significantly expand their professional visibility, artistic development, and institutional access within the United States.

The initiative specifically addresses a systemic gap where rigorous Indian classical performers are often inappropriately categorized as “ethnic” or “folk,” thereby restricting their full access to mainstream artistic opportunities, Arts India US said.

The Fellowship’s structure provides a robust platform including tailored workshops, creative guidance, and a public performance opportunity.

“These applications confirmed what we already knew—there is extraordinary talent in our community, and an urgent need for infrastructure that respects both tra-

dition and innovation,” said Vani Krishnamurthy, Founder and Executive Director of Arts India US.

“The Lotus Fellowship gives these artists the structure, tools, and connections to thrive.”

The 2026 cohort showcases the breadth of classical traditions. The

selected Fellows include sitarist Antara Bhattacharya(Denton, TX), Kathak dancers Ariaki Dandawate (New York, NY) and Tarika Nath (Houston, TX), Bharatanatyam artists Harini Nilakantan (Chicago, IL) and Neha Venkatesh (Seattle, WA), Odissi dancer Shalini Basu (New York, NY), Kuchipudi art-

ist Vedya Spurthi Konda (Austin, TX), Carnatic violinist Karthik Iyer (Aurora, IL), mridangam artist Karun Salvady (Houston, TX), and sarod player Shruti De (Albany, NY).

Each Fellow will engage in a year-long artistic dialogue with

a recognized mentor. Mentors guiding the cohort include sitarist Neel Murgai, Hindustani vocalist Samarth Nagarkar, Carnatic vocalists Aditya Prakash and Roopa Mahadevan, percussionist Rohan Krishnamurthy, Bharatanatyam artist Nadhi Thekkek, and Kathak exponent Parul Shah.

The program includes industry workshops that will cover essential topics: Ragamala Dance Company’s Executive Artistic Director Aparna Ramaswamy on how institutions take notice; Bharatanatyam artist Mythili Prakash on balancing lineage and personal identity; ClassPass founder Payal Kadakia Pujji on entrepreneurial aspects of an artistic career; and Thresh founder Preeti Vasudevan, on developing fundable works.

The Fellowship will culminate in a public showcase in 2026, where all ten artists will premiere original short works, providing audiences and cultural programmers a clear view of how these deep-rooted classical forms are evolving within a contemporary American setting. Holiday Health Check: Tips To Prevent Muscle Decline During Weight Loss

As the holiday season rolls in, with its festive feasts, travel plans and cozy indulgences, it’s easy to let your health goals slip into the New Year’s resolutions pile. But while you’re managing your weight or trying the latest trending diets, there’s one vital part of your health that deserves extra attention this time of year: your muscles.

In today’s world of trending weightloss hacks, shedding pounds has never seemed more accessible. But while the number on the scale may drop, there’s an important — and often overlooked — part of your health that might be taking a hit: your muscle mass. From miracle diets to powerful GLP-1 weight loss injections, millions of people are embracing today’s science to achieve rapid weight loss — but many report significant muscle loss, too. In fact, studies show that up to 40% of weight loss can come from muscle, not fat.

And muscle loss isn’t just a fitness issue, it impacts your metabolism, energy levels, balance, and longterm ability to stay active and independent. During the holidays, when rich foods and busy schedules collide, supporting muscle health becomes especially important for staying strong, energized and re-

silient. Whether you’re trying to maintain your weight through the season or jumpstart healthier habits, here are some smart ways to keep your muscle mass merry and bright:

• Prioritize protein in your diet

• Incorporate strength training at least 2–3 times per week

• Stay active daily — even light movement helps

• Focus on nutrient-rich whole foods over strict calorie counting

• Incorporate a krill oil supplement into your daily routine, it’s been shown to help preserve muscle and support sustainable weight loss

Krill Oil: Protecting Muscle During Weight Loss

Did you know that krill oil naturally supports muscle function, enhances movement and protects joints? It also helps combat aging, oxidative stress and inflammation at the cellular level. Backed by science, krill oil offers a proactive way to maintain muscle health — key to aging well.

Recent research has shown that krill oil supplementation can help preserve muscle strength and fat-free mass during dieting, particularly when paired with strate-

gies like alternate-day fasting. In overweight and obese adults, krill oil supported functional strength, reduced inflammation, and helped ensure that weight loss did not come at the expense of muscle mass, protecting metabolism and long-term health.

Unlike typical omega-3 sources, krill oil delivers a natural complex of phospholipids, omega-3s, choline and astaxanthin in their most bioavailable form — nutrients that work synergistically at the cellular level to support muscle, metabolism and overall wellness.

Quit Vaping To Improve Your Dental And Overall Health

Did you know tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States? While some forms of tobacco may be marketed as less harmful than others, the truth is that there’s no safe tobacco product. Each one threatens your dental and overall health, including e-cigarettes.

E-cigarettes (or vape pens) are used by around 8% of people in the United States and have been the most commonly used tobacco product among American youth for the last decade.

Results of the 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey show that almost 6% of middle and high school students use e-cigarettes and more than 1 in 4 youth e-cigarette users reported vaping daily.

These are concerning statistics because e-cigarettes contain harmful substances like nicotine and cancer-causing chemicals that put the user’s health at risk. Youth who vape may also be more likely to smoke cigarettes in the future.

“There’s no ‘better for you’ ciga-

rette out there in the marketplace. Whether you choose to vape or smoke, you still risk becoming addicted to nicotine, which can negatively impact your oral and overall health greatly over time,” said American Dental Association (ADA) dentist, Mirissa Price, D.M.D.

Here’s what to know about vaping, and why you shouldn’t use e-cigarettes.

Vaping is breathing in the aerosol (or vapor mist) created by an

e-cigarette. The aerosol is formed when the e-cigarette’s battery heats up the liquid (or e-juice) inside its special cartridge. The liquid in this cartridge often contains nicotine, along with flavorings and other chemicals that can be harmful when inhaled.

Nicotine is the highly addictive substance found in tobacco. It’s known to affect brain development related to memory, attention, and emotional regulation in children, teens and young adults, and can cause illness — and in severe

cases, coma or death — if swallowed. Average nicotine strength in e-cigarettes has increased with vaping’s popularity, and research shows that it’s now double the amount of nicotine inhaled from a pack of cigarettes. Even cartridges claiming to be nicotine-free have been shown to contain some nicotine.

Other harmful substances that have been found in vape cartridges include chemicals known to cause cancer; heavy metals such as nickel, tin and lead; and small particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs.

“The flavorings in e-juice are designed to attract youth and young adults, and they may also contain sugar, which contributes to tooth decay,” said Dr. Price. “Tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease, and increases the risk for infections, heart disease, and a weakened immune system.”

Vape pen batteries can heat the liq-

uid to 400 degrees F in seconds. Cases of people being hurt by ecigarettes exploding or causing fires inside their mouths have been covered in the news. Using a high heat setting can turn the aerosol more yellow, which could result in tooth discoloration, and make the aerosol stickier so that it remains on your teeth for a long time.

A study published in The Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA) found a correlation between people who vape and people with untreated cavities, but more research is needed to know if the cavities are caused by vaping.

If you already vape, quitting today will improve your health. Visit MouthHealthy.org/vaping for more information, along with helpful resources.

“Ask your dentist for suggestions and support too,” said Dr. Price. “Your dentist, who cares about your health, is there to offer guidance and motivation to help you stop using e-cigarettes.” (StatePoint)

Doctors’ Tips To Stay Healthy And Safe This Holiday Season

The holiday season is a joyous time to reconnect with family and friends, but it can also throw your wellness routines out of alignment. Doctors advise prioritizing healthy choices now so you can start 2026 feeling your best. “Amid the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s easy to lose sight of our well-being, overindulge in food and drink, and feel stressed. A little awareness and a few healthy habits can go a long way in helping you and loved ones enjoy the season in good health,” says Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, president of the American Medical Association (AMA).

For a healthy and happy holiday season, the AMA recommends the following tips:

1. Watch what you eat. Pay attention to labels and avoid ultra-processed foods, especially those high in added sodium, saturated fats and

sugar. Consider having a healthy snack before the big meal or offer to bring a healthier dish for the holiday spread. Drink water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages, and eat nutritious, whole foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables alongside richer holiday dishes.

2. Prioritize your mental health. Factors such as holiday spending and navigating time with extended family can bring on extra seasonal stress. Get sufficient sleep and exercise, and don’t hesitate to talk to a mental health professional when you need help managing stress.

3. Prioritize physical activity during this busy time of year. A good rule of thumb for adults is at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity each week. Brisk walks, bike rides, hikes and family-friendly sports like basketball and touch

football can provide easy, fun ways to get off the couch and elevate your heart rate. If you’re traveling, don’t forget to pack your sneakers!

4. Be prepared when traveling. Whether you’re flying or taking a road trip, you might be tempted to grab convenient yet unhealthy food for the journey. Consider packing your own snacks, such as fresh fruits and vegetables or small portions of dried fruits and nuts. When flying, pack your medication in your carry-on bag instead of your checked luggage so it’s easily accessible. Keeping medication handy will help you avoid missing a dose on busy travel days, especially amid flight delays. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water during your flight as air travel can cause dehydration. And keep your body moving in-flight to avoid blood clots.

5. Make smart choices and plan ahead if you’re driving. In December 2023 alone, 1,038 people died in alcohol impaired-driving crashes in the United States. If you plan to drink, always arrange for a sober driver or alternative transportation. And if you are the designated driver, commit to 100% sobriety. Also make sure to get plenty of sleep before your road trip as drowsy driving is responsible for an estimated 100,000 car crashes each year nationwide.

6. Vaccination remains the best protection against several serious respiratory viruses circulating this fall and winter, particularly as people are spending more time indoors and gathering for the holidays. The AMA encourages you to speak with your physician or other health care professional to determine which vaccines are best for you. The AMA offers infographics

to help patients and physicians cut through vaccine confusion and foster open, honest conversations with each other. The infographics can be found at https://ama-assn.org.

7. Start New Year’s resolutions early. Speak with your doctor or other health care professional about quitting tobacco, nicotine and e-cigarettes, and declare your home and car smoke-free to protect loved ones from secondhand smoke exposure.

“While you’re celebrating this holiday season and reconnecting with family and friends, remember to take care of your health. Eating well, staying active, and taking precautions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses can help you enjoy the season and start the new year strong,” says Dr. Mukkamala. (StatePoint)

Burst Pipes And Busted Lights: Avoiding Holiday Home Repair Disasters

As the weather turns colder and the holidays draw near, many of us are making a home maintenance list and checking it twice.

From weatherizing pipes to tackling simple fixes, T-Rex brand, a leading manufacturer of premium repair tapes, finds that nearly 60% of Americans live in “weekend project mode” or consider their house a full-time job in fall and winter.

Despite their efforts, more than half of people say they’ve experienced a home repair disaster right before or during the holidays and they’ve even had to make an urgent repair in the cold wearing pajamas “because it couldn’t wait.”

“We found the average American spends six to 15 hours a month this time of year on seasonal upkeep; yet, home hiccups still happen frequently when they least expect it, mainly due to extreme cold, rain and strong winds,” Kerry Haugh, director of marketing for T-Rex Tape, says.

“Most people compare the stress of last-minute repairs to lastminute gift shopping, saying they both equally give them gray hairs around the holidays.”

To help you stay ahead of holiday home headaches, T-Rex Tape is sharing insights on how to be prepared when maintenance or repair issues inevitably arise.

Prioritize Like a Pro

The survey shows that Americans prioritize repairs like fixing leaky faucets and pipes (57%) and minor roof leaks (55%), while often skipping or delaying less urgent projects, like repairing clogged gutters and small cracks in walls or siding. With that in mind, break repairs into “fix now” and “fix later” lists. Tackle timely problems first, such as placing temporary patches and seals on leaks to stop further damage from occurring, then schedule less critical projects for a later date so that nothing is forgotten during the holiday bustle.

A tough repair doesn’t always require a tough bill. Seventy percent of people say they have $300 or less set aside for surprise fall and winter fixes – so it comes as no surprise that 74% choose to DIY it when repairs are needed in colder

How-To

weather, while more than half ask family and friends for help to save money.

The good news is that many repairs are easy. For instance, foam weatherstrip seals and window insulation

kits can be quickly and easily installed to block climate-controlled air from escaping through drafty doors or windows, while gutter guards can help prevent clogs from leaves and debris.

Build a Simple Fix Survival Kit

Homeowners say gutters, roofs, car parts, snow shovels and outdoor lighting are the first to break when the first big cold front approaches. When seasonal repairs hit, more than 80% of people rely on heavyduty duct tape as their secret weapon to make a quick fix.

Among their must-have items to keep in the toolbox, 73% choose waterproof repair tape, like T-Rex Ferociously Strong Waterproof and Repair Tape, to go alongside

recommended items like weatherproof caulk, tarps or plastic sheeting, a headlamp with spare batteries, and rock salt to prevent slips when DIY takes them outside.

For more information about T-Rex brand tape, visit www.trextape. com.

“100% of survey respondents said they’ve experienced an ‘oh no’ incident that required an immediate repair, so it’s not a matter of ‘if’ it will happen, but ‘when,’” Haugh says.

“Expecting the unexpected and understanding what’s most likely to break, as well as having the right fix-all tools and mindset, will keep you prepared to make reliable, fast fixes during the holiday season and beyond.” (StatePoint)

Winterize Your Lawn Mower

As mowing season winds down with cooler weather setting in, it’s time to prepare your lawn mower for storage.

Properly winterizing your mower can help ensure it’s ready to run smoothly when spring returns.

Consider these steps to get your mower ready for winter, which may help prevent corrosion, fuel problems and more costly repairs.

Clean Your Mower Thoroughly

Start by removing any loose grass clippings, dirt and debris then, using a garden hose and scraper, clean the underside of the mower deck.

Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap or allpurpose cleaner. Once dry, apply a light coat of silicone spray to metal parts to help prevent rust.

Drain or Stabilize the Fuel Gasoline left in the tank through winter can break down and cause carburetor issues.

You can either drain the tank by running the mower until it’s out of fuel or add fuel stabilizer, running your mower for 5-10 minutes afterward to circulate it through the

fuel system.

Change the Oil

Similarly, used oil contains contaminants that can corrode your mower’s engine. Drain the oil following your mower’s manual – usually by tipping the mower or removing the drain plug – then refill with the recommended type and amount of fresh oil.

Inspect the Spark Plug

To inspect for buildup or wear, remove the sparkplug then gently clean with a wire brush. If corroded or worn, the sparkplug may need replaced.

Clean or Replace the Air Filter

A clean air filter helps your mower run more efficiently. Replace paper filters or wash foam filters in warm, soapy water before drying

and lightly oiling then reinstalling.

Sharpen the Blade

Remove the mower blade and inspect it for nicks or dull edges. If necessary, sharpen it using a file or grinder then reinstall securely.

Lubricate Moving Parts

Apply spray lubricant to moving parts, such as the wheels, cables and pivot points, to prevent rust and sticking.

Transform Your Space With An Accent Wall

If you’re looking to give your home a fresh look without a full-scale remodel, an accent wall might be an ideal solution.

Whether you’re craving bold color or rich texture, an accent wall can instantly add personality and visual interest with minimal effort.

Consider these ideas to spark your imagination:

Bold Paint Colors

Sometimes the simplest option can be a fresh coat of paint. Whether you choose a deep, dramatic color like burgundy, navy or emerald green or opt for more playful vibes with teal or mustard shades, pair your accent wall with neutral decor

for a balanced, stylish look.

Geometric Designs

For a modern architectural look,

use wood trim or molding to create a geometric pattern such as chevron or herringbone.

Paint the trim the same color as the wall for subtle texture or use contrasting tones for a bolder statement.

Stone or Brick Accents

Exposed brick and stone can bring natural beauty and timeless appeal that pair beautifully with wood beams, modern furniture and industrial lighting.

Use real stone for authenticity or opt for veneer panels for quick and easy installation.

Built-In Shelving

Combine function and style with a statement storage area. Built-in shelves filled with books, plants

and curated decor can become the heart of a living room or home office.

Wall of Art

Whether you opt for a hand-painted mural or a variety of prints in different shapes, sizes and frames, artwork can tell a story or set the mood for a room.

Try a floral motif for softness, a skyline for urban flair or abstract pieces for modern drama.

Cozy Up To Peace Of Mind: 4 Tips To Avoid Common Pet Hazards This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for cozy gatherings with loved ones to share gratitude, crisp adventures, festive decor and, oftentimes, delicious food. However, many traditions associated with giving thanks, including the feast, can pose risks to your furry family members.

Even with the best-laid plans, accidents can happen. From tempting table scraps to the crackling fire and festive decor, it’s important to take steps to prevent seasonal hazards from ruining the celebration for your pets.

However, should those unforeseen moments occur, participating VCA Animal Hospitals Emergency Care locations offer access to worldclass emergency medicine, 50% off an ER exam for all pet owners and free ER exams for CareClub members.

For added peace of mind, taking these extra precautions during the festivities can help keep your furry friends safe and healthy:

Skip the Table Scraps

While pleading eyes can be hard to resist when you’re gathered around the table, remember – and remind little ones – many Thanksgiving foods can make pets sick. Avoid feeding pets turkey skin, which can trigger pancreatitis, or bones,

which could splinter and lead to choking or internal injuries, and pack away any leftovers quickly to keep curious pets at bay.

Similarly, beware of ingredients like onions, garlic and chives, which are common in stuffing and casseroles, and are toxic to both dogs and cats.

If you want to include your fourlegged family members in the celebration, plain turkey breast, unseasoned green beans or pumpkin puree are safe for most pets to consume.

However, many other seasonal

desserts contain chocolate, raisins, grapes or the sugar substitute xylitol, which can also be harmful. Be sure to keep beverages out of reach as well, as pets can quickly absorb alcohol, which may lead to alcohol poisoning.

Mind the Decorations

Seasonal decor can make your home feel welcoming, but pets are curious by nature and often attracted to new items in their living spaces. Help keep your furry friends safe by sitting or hanging decorations out of paws’ reach and unplugging extra cords and string lights when not in use as they pose

a chewing –and shock –risk to pets.

Beware of Open Flames

Heat sources, such as fireplaces and wood stoves, can be enticing with their warm embers and golden hue, but they also pose serious fire and burn risks should wagging tails or chilly noses get too close. Keep pets a safe distance from open flames by placing a guard around the flame and, similarly, keep lit candles out of pets’ reach.

Prepare for Cool-Weather Walks

If you live in an area with snow and ice, be cautious of weather conditions when sending pets outside to play or use the bathroom, and consider a pet sweater or jacket and booties to protect them from the cold.

When going out for walks, particularly during the early morning and

late evening hours, use a non-retractable leash to keep furry family members close, wear high-visibility gear and avoid paths, roads and trails with limited lighting.

Emergency Situations That Require Immediate Attention

During the holidays – or any other time or year – accidents can happen. Should your pet be involved in any of these situations, they likely require emergency veterinary attention:

• Severe accident or trauma

• Vomiting or diarrhea that goes on for an extended time

• Severe fever or malaise

• Birthing problems

• Broken bones

• Getting hit by a car

• Seizures

• Shock

• Uncontrolled bleeding

• Attack by another animal

• Known or suspected toxin ingestion

• Difficulty breathing or severe coughing

India-US Military Chiefs Meet In Hawaii To Deepen Defense Ties

(Continued From Page 01)

The MCG serves as a vital forum to advance defense cooperation between the Armed Forces of both nations through regular strategic and operational-level dialogue.

“The event witnessed productive discussions with senior military leaders focusing on strengthening bilateral defense engagements, enhancing interoperability and promoting a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific region,” the HQ IDS posted on X.

Rudd had also led a delegation of senior US officials during the 21st edition of the India–US Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting which was conducted from November 5-6 at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.

The meeting had covered a wide range of topics, including capacity building, training exchanges, defense industrial cooperation and the advancement of joint exercises that bolster preparedness for conventional and hybrid threats.

According to the Indian Defense Ministry, during the last meeting, both sides had emphasized the importance of the Indo-US defense partnership and committed to strengthening this strategic relationship through proactive engagement and enhanced interoperability.

They had also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the scope of Indo-US military cooperation with a shared understanding of the dynamic challenges facing the Indo-Pacific region.

New Delhi Reacts Firmly To Sheikh Hasina Death Sentence

(Continued From Page 01) “As a close neighbor, India remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including in peace, democracy, inclusion and stability in that country. We will always engage constructively with all stakeholders to that end,” read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the recent verdict in Bangladesh.

The statement came hours after Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal pronounced a death sentence for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after finding her guilty on the charges of “crimes against humanity” related to the demonstrations in July of last year.

The ICT also convicted Hasina’s two top aides, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. Mamun, however, has been granted a pardon but the court said that, given the intensity of the crimes, he will be given a “lenient sentence”.

In September, the 21st edition of Exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’, the premier annual Army exercise between India and the United States, was held at Fort Wainwright, Alaska – one of the largest bilateral military exercises for the Indian Army in terms of troops mobilized.

The Indian Army contingent, comprising 450 personnel led by a battalion of the Madras Regiment, trained alongside US soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, part of the 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Arctic Wolves), 11th Airborne Division.

Since its inception in 2002 as a platoonlevel exercise, ‘Yudh Abhyas’ has expanded greatly both in scope and participation. Past editions have explored diverse terrains: high-altitude warfare in India’s Auli and Chaubattia; desert maneuvers in Rajasthan; urban and cold environment training at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Alaska.

“India conducts more military exercises with the US than with any other country. These exercises, including ‘Yudh Abhyas’, ‘Malabar’, ‘COPE India’, ‘Vajra Prahar’, ‘Tiger Triumph’ and several others, are central to building interoperability and forging mutual trust.

It demonstrates how our two democracies continue to work towards peace, security and prosperity, including in the Indo-Pacific region,” the Embassy of India in Washington stated on September 4. (IANS) (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

Dhaka on November 17 also urged New Delhi to “immediately” hand over Hasina and Kamal, stating that the move is India’s treaty-bound obligation. “The existing bilateral extradition agreement between Bangladesh and India marks the transfer of the two convicts a compulsory responsibility for New Delhi. The foreign ministry also said that granting shelter to individuals convicted of crimes against humanity would be considered an unfriendly act and a disregard for justice,” Bangladesh’s leading Bengali daily ‘Prothom Alo’ quoted from a statement issued by the country’s Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, Hasina alleged that the verdict announced against her came from a “rigged tribunal” set up and presided over by the unelected interim government led by Muhammad Yunus which lacks a democratic mandate. She termed the ruling biased and politically motivated.

“In their distasteful call for the death penalty, they reveal the brazen and murderous intent of extremist figures within the interim government to remove Bangladesh’s last elected Prime Minister, and to nullify the Awami League as a political force. Millions of Bangladeshis toiling under the chaotic, violent and socially-regressive administration of Dr Mohammad Yunus will not be fooled by this attempt to short-change them of their democratic rights. They can see that the trials conducted by the so-called International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) were never intended to achieve justice or provide any genuine insight into the events of July and August 2025. Rather, their purpose was to scapegoat the Awami League and to distract the world’s attention from the failings of Dr Yunus and his ministers,” read a statement issued by former PM Hasina after the controversial ICT verdict.

Slamming the Yunus led interim government, she further said, “Under his aegis, public services have fallen apart. Police have retreated from the country’s crime-ridden streets and judicial fairness has been subverted, with attacks on Awami League adherents going unpunished. Hindus and other religious minorities are assaulted, and women’s rights suppressed. Islamic extremists inside the administration, including figures from Hizb-ut-Tahrir, seek to undermine Bangladesh’s long tradition of secular government. Journalists are locked up and menaced, economic growth has stalled, and Yunus has delayed elections and then banned the country’s most longstanding party (the Awami League) from participating in those elections.”

The former PM denied the accusations that have been made against her in the ICT verdict. “I mourn all of the deaths that occurred in July and August of last year, on both sides of the political divide. But neither I nor other political leaders ordered the killing of protestors,” she stressed.

Hasina stated that she has no fear of facing her accusers before a proper tribunal where the evidence can be weighed and tested fairly, adding that this is why she has repeatedly challenged the interim government to bring these charges before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

“The interim government will not accept this challenge, because it knows that the ICC would acquit me. The interim government also fears that the ICC would scrutinize its own record of human rights breaches in office,” she asserted. (IANS) (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)

Reduce, Reuse, Rejoice: 5 Holiday Hacks For Eco-Friendly Celebrations

celebrations bring joy, laughter and lasting memories - but they can also leave behind a sleigh full of waste. From food scraps and empty bottles to wrapping paper and decorations, the season can leave your home full of items that could be reused or recycled.

In fact, household waste increases nearly 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, according to survey results from the Center for Biological Diversity. That’s a lot

of leftovers, garland and glass that could be kept out of landfills.

To help you cut down on trash and embrace a joyful, less-waste holiday season, the experts at CalRecycle offer these five holiday hacks to help you save cash and protect the planet.

1. Plan Meals to Waste Less and Save More

* Shop your pantry first to avoid buying what you already have.

* Buy only what you need and prepare recipes based on guest count.

* Choose local ingredients from sources like farmers markets that minimize packaging.

* Send guests home with leftovers in reusable containers or freeze extras for future meals.

2. Recycle Food Scraps

* Not all food can be saved, but it doesn’t have to go in the trash.

* Compost fruit and vegetable trimmings, eggshells, coffee grounds and plate scrapings. Trashed food makes climate pollution in landfills. Recycle it in your green bin instead.

* Most California communities now offer green bin composting. Learn what goes in the green bin by visiting the Curb Your Food Scraps page on RecyclingReimaginedCA.com.

* Set out a clearly labeled “food scraps” bin next to your trash, as well as a recycling bin for bottles,

cans and other containers so everyone can participate.

3. Eat, Drink and Be Eco-Friendly

* Use reusable plates, cups and utensils instead of disposable options.

* Decorate with items you can use year after year or make compostable decor from natural materials.

* Collect empty wine, liquor, juice or other California Redemption Value (CRV)-eligible containers and cash them in once the party is over.

* Serve water in reusable pitchers or carafes instead of single-use plastic bottles.

4. Give Greener Gifts

* Choose experiences over stuff, like tickets to events, museum or club memberships, registrations for classes or shared adventures.

* Wrap gifts in fabric, scarves or reusable tins. Or use recyclable paper without glitter or foil.

* Personalize presents with homemade crafts, baked goods or services that reduce packaging.

* Prioritize gifts from local and sustainable businesses that are committed to ethical sourcing, minimal packaging and recycled materials.

5. Sort Holiday Waste the Right Way

* After the celebrations, check local recycling rules for how to properly dispose of:

o Batteries

o Holiday lights

o Christmas trees

* Drop off CRV-eligible beverage containers, such as wine and spirit containers, at your nearest recycling site for cash back.

* Donate unwanted gifts or gently used holiday items to local charities or thrift stores.

Make this season joyful and sustainable by finding more tips and recycling locations near you at RecyclingReimaginedCA.com.

3 Ways You Can Help Tackle Hunger And Strengthen Communities This Holiday Season

The holiday season is often a time of joy, connection and celebration. For millions of families across the country, however, it is also a season of uncertainty, wondering how to put food on the table or meet other essential needs. According to the USDA, more than 47.4 million people in the United States experience food insecurity each year.

That’s why, each holiday season, thousands of Charles Schwab employees come together to fight hunger and strengthen the communities where they live and work. Through employee meal-packing events and nonprofit grants, volunteers and partners help families access nutritious meals and vital support during the holidays and beyond.

“As we gather with loved ones this season, it’s important to remember that not all of our neighbors have that security,” said Kristine Dixon, managing director of Charles Schwab Community Affairs. “By working side-by-side with local hunger relief organizations, we’re helping ensure more families can share in the joy of a holiday meal and the peace of knowing they are supported.”

As you prepare for the holidays, here are a few ways you can help address hunger relief and support your neighbors.

Donate to a Local Food Bank

Food banks and pantries are at the heart of efforts to make nutritious food accessible for all. Inflation and rising costs of living have stretched budgets thin, making it harder for families to afford groceries. Nonperishable

donations such as canned goods, pasta and rice are always in high demand. Monetary donations often go even further, giving food banks the ability to purchase exactly what is needed most.

Volunteer Your Time

The gift of time is just as valuable as food donations. Food banks and hunger relief nonprofits rely on volunteers to sort, pack

and distribute meals. Even a few hours can make a meaningful difference, adding up to thousands of volunteer hours to help nonprofits meet urgent needs during the holiday season and year-round.

Support Community Partnerships

No single organization can solve hunger alone. Collective action from neighbors, companies, nonprofits and others is what creates lasting impact. This year, Schwab employees will join forces with partners like Harvest Pack to pack more than 1 million nutritious meals for families across the country. Supporting these types of efforts, whether through donations, volunteering or spreading awareness, can expand the impact.

Hunger is about more than food; it’s about stability and opportunity. By giving, volunteering and partnering with organizations that serve families in need, you can make the holiday season brighter for millions of Americans.

‘De De Pyaar De 2’ Earns 4.5 Stars For Heart And Humor

MUMBAI– It’s rare to find a film that makes you laugh, cry, and smile, all within the same heartbeat. ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ is that rare

gem. The sequel not only lives up to the 2019 blockbuster but builds on it with heart, humor, and a story that feels deeply personal yet universally relatable.

In a year full of thrillers and highoctane spectacles, ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ stands tall as the only true family entertainer of 2025. It’s a film about family — and one meant to be watched with

family. Whether you’re a parent, a young adult, or a daughter who shares a special bond with her father, this one will speak to you in more ways than one.

The film beautifully balances clapand-whistle-worthy comedy with tear-jerking emotion, and even leaves you with a subtle but strong message about love, relationships, and what truly makes a man ‘man enough’ in today’s world.

Lead actor Ajay Devgn is a delight, effortlessly switching between subtle humour and emotional restraint. His references to his own iconic films are a treat for fans and timed to perfection. It’s refreshing to see him return to a romantic-comedy space after a string of action-heavy roles.

R. Madhavan, on the other hand, brings soul to the story. As a father navigating complex emotions, he’s a powerhouse of warmth and vulnerability. His scenes, especially

with Ajay, are pure paisa vasool, seamlessly blending humor with heartfelt depth.

Leading lady Rakul Preet Singh delivers her best performance yet, charming, confident, and absolutely radiant on screen.

While Jaaved Jaffery leaves you rolling on the floor laughing every time he comes on the screen, Meezaan’s entry in the second half is impactful; he looks effortlessly dashing and leaves a strong impression in a limited screen time.

The supporting ensemble — Gautami, Ishita, and Suhasini Mulay, bring natural warmth and depth, rounding out the film’s emotional universe beautifully.

Director Anshul Sharma infuses ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ with heart, humor, and a sense of effortless storytelling.

His vision shines through every

frame, bringing together a powerhouse cast and allowing each performer to leave a lasting mark. Sharma orchestrates the film’s emotional beats and comic timing with remarkable finesse, blending warmth and wit in equal measure, cementing his place as a filmmaker who knows how to entertain while keeping the emotions genuine and grounded.

Unlike many sequels that exist just to cash in on a franchise name, ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ feels like an organic continuation of the first. The callbacks are smart, not forced, and the story flows with sincerity and purpose.

And just when you think you’ve seen it all, the last 20–30 minutes hit you with one of the most emotionally satisfying climaxes seen in recent times, an absolute rollercoaster of emotions that will leave you walking out with a full heart and a huge smile. (IANS) (Courtesy: https://indiawest.com/)
