The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a renowned non-profit organization, is set to host its annual gala on September 9th in Austin. This grand event will feature two distinguished keynote speakers, Dr. Deepak Chopra, and Chef Sanjeev Kapoor.
Whether you are 5, 50 or 105, how much you can do depends of your level of fitness.
There are 3 basic levels.
Not active - If you’ve never really worked out and you want to start now, that’s absolutely fine. Well done for wanting to take this step.
Fairly active - You might not live at the gym, but you consider yourself active, whether it’s running around with your busy day to day life or squeezing in a workout here and there. (Continued On Page 05)
Hindu Charities for America (HC4A) recently awarded over $110,000 in scholarships to economically disadvantaged students in the Austin area.
The scholarships were awarded to students who are pursuing degrees in a variety of fields, including health, business, and technology.

(Continued From Page 01) The survey also found college affordability is top-of-mind for the majority of students (57%). Despite financial concerns, 81% of students report that a college degree is crucial for their future.
“The mix of methods that families use to pay for college has shifted, however one thing remains consistent: students and families value the investment in higher education,” says Angela Colatriano, chief marketing officer of College Ave.
To borrow smart for college this fall, consider these tips and insights:
Before turning to private student loans, first exhaust other sources of financial aid.
Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
to be considered for grants, scholarships, work-study programs and federal student loans.
If your selected school is one of the 400 institutions that requires the CSS profile, submit that too to qualify for institutional aid.
Finally, search for private scholarships offered by companies and non-profit organizations. One easy one to apply for is the College Ave $1,000 monthly scholarship sweepstakes.
If you do need to borrow, turn to federal student loans in the stu-
dent’s name first, which generally offer the lowest rates and come with additional benefits.
They don’t depend on credit scores, and offer longer deferments and forbearances, income-driven repayment plans and student loan forgiveness.
Federal student loans have annual and aggregate loan limits. If you find yourself needing to borrow parent or private loans to cover remaining costs, consider these factors:
• Costs: Compare costs of different loans by looking at the actual interest rate you’ll be charged, not
the lowest advertised rate. Understand the difference between variable and fixed interest rates, and be aware of any fees and available discounts, such as those offered for using autopay.
• Cosigners: A creditworthy cosigner doesn’t just increase the odds of loan approval, even if the student can qualify on their own, cosigning may yield a lower interest rate, reducing the overall cost of the loan.
• Total Debt: Borrow only what you need. With private loans, you can usually borrow up to the total cost of attendance. However, borrowing less than the maximum can help you save over time.
A simple rule of thumb you can use to determine how much student loan debt you can afford: If total student loan debt at graduation, including federal and private loans, is less than the student’s annual starting salary, you can likely
repay the loans in 10 years or less.
• Repayment: Look for repayment flexibility to match your needs.
For example, College Ave Student Loans offers 5-, 8-, 10- and 15-year repayment options, along with the choice of deferring payments until after graduation or beginning payments right away. No matter what option you select, understand the terms.
For more resources, including an online student loan calculator, and to learn more about paying for college, visit CollegeAve.com.
Private loans for college can play an important role in financing your education.
By researching your financial aid options, applying for scholarships and comparing private student loan options, you can minimize college costs, so you can better manage your finances after you graduate.

August 12 is International Youth Day, a United Nations effort to celebrate youth activists, combat ageism and help bridge gaps between generations working toward the same change.
No matter your age, it’s likely you’ve questioned your ability to make a difference. Research from the global nonprofit Points of Light shows that 73% of people believe that volunteering is more important than ever, yet 66% think they can’t make a big impact in their communities. Activists on the ground prove otherwise.
That’s why Points of Light, which is dedicated to inspiring and equipping people to take action, has recognized thousands of volunteers for their contributions to their communities through The Daily Point of Light Award.
“Points of Light’s research found that Gen Z is the most civically engaged generation to date. Our youth honorees demonstrate that people of all ages can strengthen communities and solve persistent problems,” says Di-
ane Quest, interim CEO, Points of Light.
To inspire you to action this International Youth Day, the organization is sharing the stories of youth honorees, along with three elements from The Points of Light Civic Circle®, a framework for helping individuals get civically engaged:

If you’re like many shoppers, and price and product availability are heavily factored into your shopping habits, you may want to jump on the trend of shopping earlier in the season to ensure you’ll find the supplies you need at the best prices.
• Don’t worry about what days you plan to head to the store. Instore traffic is likely to be steady throughout the week, with 35% of consumers saying they’re more likely to shop on weekdays, 32% saying weekends and 33% saying
they have no preference.
• With 75% of respondents saying product availability is an important factor when shopping in-store, consider planning out your shopping list to ensure retailers have your items in-stock before you arrive.
Thankfully, technologies like inventory intelligence are making brick-and-mortar shopping more reliable and convenient. For additional survey results and insights, visit https://www.sen-

“Gearing up for a new school year is always exciting for both parents and kids.
And with a bit of knowledge of how your fellow consumers plan to get their seasonal shopping done, you can develop smart shopping strategies,” says Melvin. (StatePoint)
Staying on top of consumer trends can make for a better shopper experience this back-to-school season, helping you land the best deals on the right products at the right time.
The results of a new survey from Sensormatic Solutions, a leading retail solutions provider of Johnson Controls, show that despite new shopping options popularized during the pandemic, such as buyonline-pick-up-in-stores (BOPIS), 79% of respondents plan to conduct their back-to-school shopping in stores this year, a slight increase from 2022.
The most important factors when shopping in-store include price (91%), product availability (75%) and a safe and comfortable store environment (44%).
“Consumers are still viewing instore shopping, particularly in the back-to-school season, as an experience to be enjoyed rather than an errand,” says Kim Melvin, global leader of marketing and communications at Sensormatic Solutions. “Retailers are accommodating and
encouraging this point of view, and it’s creating a better, more responsible, and more agile industry for customers and retailers alike.”
Consumers are also less worried about how the current U.S. economy will impact their back-toschool shopping budget than they were last year.
Despite talk of a recession, 51% say their budget will not be impacted or that they even plan to spend more this year, a notable increase as compared to 43% in 2022. Consumers plan to spend the most on clothing and apparel (70%), shoes (58%) and school supplies (53%).
No matter how much you’ve budgeted for back-to-school shopping or what items you plan to spend the most on, you can use these top strategies from Sensormatic Solutions to make your back-to-school shopping experience successful and stress-free:
• 80% of respondents plan to begin their back-to-school shopping in July or August – an increase over last year – so don’t wait.

Remember, dogs and cats age faster than humans, so annual exams with diagnostic testing are the equivalent of humans visiting the doctor every 4-5 years.
Watch for warning signs of parasites. Some pets infected with a parasite don’t show any signs of illness.
However, common signs of infection include diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite or blood in your pet’s stools. Coughing or difficulty breathing may also accompany heartworms.
Also consult your veterinarian if your pet excessively scratches, chews or licks his or her coat or ears, or persistently shakes his or her head.
Seeing your vet as soon as possible can get your pet treatment and help prevent spreading the parasite to other animals.
Puppies and kittens are especially at risk for parasites since most contract them from their mothers while nursing and their small
size puts them at greater risk for severe illness.
Groom regularly.
To reduce the risk of coat contamination and increase the likelihood of catching fleas, ticks and coat abnormalities quickly, be sure to periodically groom your pet, or have him or her professionally groomed.
It is particularly important to inspect your dog or cat after playing outside or with other pets.
Clean up after your pet. Since most intestinal parasites spread through contact with feces, it’s crucial to dispose of any waste in your yard or pet’s litter box within 24 hours to avoid exposure and reduce the risk of environmental parasite contamination.
A contaminated yard can be a source of exposure for many months as parasites can live in the soil for extended periods of time.

For more than 80 years, the USO has served the men and women of the U.S. military and their families, throughout their time in uniform.
And now, with the opening of its first two ship-based USO centers, they are going where they go even at sea.
The two new centers, on the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) and the USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), are designed to lift spirits among deployed sailors, providing a haven filled with comforting amenities, including large-screen TVs, the latest-generation gaming equipment, board games and activity sets, computers, phones, USO program kits and snacks.
This USO presence, which includes many of the same amenities as a land-based, staffed USO Center, promises to cultivate a sense of camaraderie and enhanced morale, serving as a vital source of support
during long journeys.
When underway, a U.S. Navy air-
craft carrier is home to as many as 5,000 personnel -- the size of a small city.
Living aboard roughly 4.5 acres and 60,000 tons of floating struc-
tural steel for months at a time, with very few port visits, leaves individuals little space to get away and find time to themselves.
These conditions can be stressful and isolating for sailors who are separated from their loved ones.
Expanding USO support to those serving at sea is vital in helping boost morale, improving the quality of life on board the ship, and providing more opportunities to connect with friends and family back home.
“We operate in more than 250 locations, but these new ship-based centers are special,” said Dr. J.D. Crouch II, USO chief executive officer and president.
“The USO goes where the men and women of the military go.
Now, we can add ‘at sea’ with these centers, which are a key part of our efforts to provide additional support to sailors.” (StatePoint)
(Continued From Page 01) It’s important for families affected by COPD to have a plan in place regarding these care options. Having trusted tools and information can make getting the conversation started with healthcare providers easier.
That’s why the American Lung Association, in partnership with Embassy Health, has launched a new campaign to educate patients and families about the benefits and differences of palliative and hospice care.
Palliative Care
Palliative care provides specialized medical care for people living with a chronic or serious illness. Surprisingly to many patients, it’s appropriate at any stage of COPD.
Early delivery of palliative care has the potential to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and the use of health services. In fact, it’s never too soon after a COPD diag-
nosis to ask a healthcare provider about adding in palliative care. The intent of palliative care for those living with COPD is to improve their condition, manage symptoms and address their wishes and treatment goals.
These services are often provided by a team of palliative care specialist doctors and nurses, social workers, nutritionists and spiritual advisers, and can take place in the home, a hospital, outpatient clinic, assisted living facility, nursing home or palliative care center.
Hospice Care
When curative treatment options stop working, it’s often referred to as end-stage or advanced COPD.
This can be an extremely difficult time for patients and families, and a time where they need to make difficult decisions.
One treatment option for advanced COPD is hospice care. Hospice care focuses on bringing comfort and relief to a person with lifelimiting COPD who has opted to no longer seek curative treatment. The goal is to consider the patient’s overall wellbeing and improve their quality of their life.
While many worry it’s too soon to start talking about hospice care,
many patients discover that it comprises much more than end-of-life care.
When Carolynne, who has COPD, was hospitalized due to a severe exacerbation of the disease in November 2022, her healthcare team was especially concerned about her future and suggested hospice care.
As she learned more, she began to understand that hospice encompasses supportive in-home care that could help prevent hospitalizations with another COPD flare-up.
Carolynne’s hospice care includes assistance with showers and medication, weekly nurse checkins, chaplain visits, and in-home healthcare so that she doesn’t have to travel to numerous medical appointments.
This level of support has allowed her to focus her time and energy on her family and her favorite hobby, baking.
“I am living at home, and I can do
as I please and hospice is helping me do it,” Carolynne says. “It’s just a different style of living; you are living with help.”
Hospice care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team that can consist of nurses, doctors, social workers, spiritual advisors and trained volunteers. Everyone works together with the patient and their caregivers to provide medical, emotional and spiritual support.
An approach to care, not a place, hospice can be offered in the home, a care center, hospital, assisted living facility or hospice center.
For more information about COPD care options, visit Lung.org/copdplan. For the 12.5 million people in the United States living with COPD and their families, having reliable information about supportive care options can mean fewer hospitalizations and a better quality of life. (StatePoint)
After steadily declining for over a decade, global hunger has reached an all-time high.
Continued supply chain disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, escalating inflation and a rapidly changing climate, have exacerbated challenges around the world, particularly in developing countries, and today, as many as 828 million people still go hungry.
Experts point out that hunger is not just a product of such crises, it can perpetuate more hunger and regional instability, especially in areas already experiencing violent conflict.
“Heightened levels of food insecurity make it much more difficult for communities to build lasting peace, which in turn, leads to greater food insecurity,” says Dan Glickman, former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
“By working with our partners around the world, America and American farmers can help save lives at this critical moment.”
These issues were front-and-center at the recent U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s (USGLC) 2023 Heartland Summit, which took place in two Heartland cities: Detroit, Michigan and Sioux City, Iowa.
The annual summit brings together leaders from across the Heartland for critical conversations on how global investments in agriculture and U.S. international affairs programs help to create jobs, feed the hungry and reduce poverty around the world.
According to event leaders, these are this year’s biggest lessons and takeaways:
• What happens around the world directly impacts local Heartland
communities’ success and prosperity. It’s why hundreds of farmers are speaking out on why investments in diplomacy, development and global food security help keep America safe, strengthen the U.S. economy and strengthen families and communities across the Heartland.
• American agricultural exports of U.S. farm and food products to the world posted its best export year ever in 2022, totaling $196 billion and topping the previous record set it 2021 by 11% -- clearly demonstrating the indispensable nature of American farmers to America’s economy.
• With food insecurity severely impacted by global crises, the work of farmers and the American agriculture community to help feed the world is essential.
It’s why USGLC’s network— Farmers for Prosperity—aims to
shine a spotlight on the crucial role farmers play in solving critical global issues and how U.S. global leadership is essential to protect the security, health and economic interests of American families.
• Farmers around the world grow the food that sustains families and creates stability in communities and countries. Amid growing threats on the global stage from wars, drought and climate change, farmers are part of the solution.
• American farmers have unique views on what it takes for the United States and world to prosper, making it important for them to raise their voices in an effort to help shape U.S. foreign policy.
• U.S. leadership in the world is vital in advancing national economic and security interests. When it comes to issues like trade, America can only stand up to countries like China and Russia when it’s on the
global playing field.
• The State Department and USAID are vital links in helping open new markets for American agricultural products, which is not just good for American farmers, but promotes stability and security globally.
At the same time, the long-term goal of empowering farmers and communities around the world to feed themselves builds a safer, more prosperous world.
To watch the 2023 Heartland Summit, visit heartland.usglc.org.
“Fighting global hunger by strengthening our nation’s leadership around the world, enabling our nation’s farmers to compete, and building new stable markets for our agricultural exports is a moral imperative and a matter of U.S. economic and national security,” says Glickman. (StatePoint)

The power of volunteering is apparent when considering Daily Point of Light Award honoree Nate Buescher, a high schooler who prepares food for a local food pantry and distributes home-cooked meals to tent cities around Chicago.
Buescher began fighting food insecurity at age 7 with the Honeycomb Project. Today, he mentors younger volunteers while maintaining his own service projects.
Voice
The youth voice is vital, pointing us to which concerns are most important to future world leaders and helping broaden perspectives.
Use your voice to advocate for causes you care about by posting on social media, attending a rally or contacting a government leader. Adults can amplify youth voices by sharing with their networks, or organizing forums for youth to be
seen and heard.
Seventeen-year-old Daily Point of Light Award honoree Maanit Goel used his voice when organizing a rally of fellow activists on the Washington State Capitol steps to support legislation protecting the Chinook salmon and orca populations.
He also regularly addresses state legislators, and travels statewide to
speak to K-12 students about environmental issues.
Listen and Learn
Social justice and environmental issues are nuanced, involving many people with different perspectives shaped by their own experiences. Listening and learning is one way to honor others’ lived experiences and get a fuller scope of an issue.
Young people can commit to thor-
oughly researching causes they care about, talking to those working toward solutions and holding space for those impacted.
Adults can connect with the young people in their lives, inviting dialogue that allows for sharing different perspectives and finding common ground.
These are the driving ideas behind the work of high schooler Kristie To, who became a leading force in Asian American racial justice when she founded Hearts Against Hate.
Among the initiatives of her nonprofit is distributing Asian history and Asian American Pacific Islander civil rights curriculum to children.
“Cultural sensitivity starts with exposure, and that’s what we’re trying to do with these elementary schoolers,” says To.

“There are many formal channels for civic engagement, but simple actions make a difference too,” says Quest.

Intelligent cashflow management is the essential fuel of startups and digital businesses, particularly in a challenging economy. According to experts, it can mean the difference between surviving, thriving and failure.
“Poor cashflow management will kill your business. In fact, it’s killed some of the biggest busi-
businesses that will generate nearterm certainty with monthly recurring revenue over those with potential long-term growth.
4. Make profitability your number one goal. Aim to be profitable enough to pay yourself a decent salary, cover business overheads and keep cash in reserve. If you’re looking for a buyer or investor, have solid numbers to show them. In Onfolio’s case, the investment criteria are established businesses generating annual profits over $500,000 in sectors and niches with highgrowth potential.
In today’s competitive youth sports landscape, injuries are common, and when they do occur, young athletes are often pressured to play through the pain.

nesses in the world. No matter how fast you’re growing, you could be destined for the startup graveyard if your outgoings exceed your revenues,” says Dominic Wells, serial entrepreneur and CEO and founder of Onfolio Holdings, a leading online conglomerate that acquires and manages a diversified portfolio of online business holdings.
To help startups and digital businesses not only survive a downturn, but remain profitable while accelerating growth, Wells is sharing some top actionable insights for the current moment:
1. Know that capital is harder to secure. While during periods of low interest rates, it was possible to burn through capital, that’s no longer the case. “Don’t assume you can just raise more money. Investors are avoiding businesses that aren’t already cashflow positive,” says Wells.
2. Change your priorities. Founders must review spending line items and identify the areas generating the greatest returns. Double down on those. Cut or reduce your spending elsewhere.
3. Focus on short-term growth. Certainty beats speculation right now and investors are choosing
Without the metrics to support why you deserve funding, investors and buyers aren’t lurking around the next corner, ready to leap out with a check.
“It’s not easy to execute, but your goal is simple. Keep asking yourself, ‘are we profitable?’ If the answer is no, do everything you can to get there quickly,” says Wells.
5. Become more financially secure. At a time when many operations are cutting costs, making your service indispensable to customers so that they stay with you, or even spend more money, can help make you more financially secure. It’s time to deploy strategies and technology that generate more revenue from your current customers. For example, if you’re a website owner without a subscription upsell, now is the time to implement one.

“New challenges arise for small business owners and digital companies during downturns,” says Wells. “Being savvy about the current climate can mean not just your survival, but your continued success.” (StatePoint)
“The back-to-school season is prime time for foot and ankle injuries from fall sports like soccer, football and cross country,” says Richard Baker, DPM, FACFAS, a foot and ankle surgeon and Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS).
“Fortunately, there are many steps parents, coaches and young athletes can take to prevent injuries from occurring in the first place and to discourage kids from playing through pain.”
Here are eight play-it-safe tips from the foot and ankle surgeon members of ACFAS to help prevent injuries and to treat them properly when they do occur.
1. Get a pre-season checkup.
A pre-season medical evaluation can help identify whether your child could possibly benefit from using an orthotic or wearing a supportive ankle brace while playing. This is especially important for those with previous sprains and injuries.
2. Start the season with new shoes.
Old shoes can wear down and become uneven, causing the ankle to
The smart move is to replace athletic shoes at the start of each season. While children under 10 should wear all-purpose sports shoes, older youth athletes should wear sport-specific footwear.
3. Train for the season.
It’s important that your child’s feet and ankles are accustomed to the level of activity required for the sport. Adequate conditioning in the off-season can help maintain a player’s ability to meet these demands, reducing their risk of injury and improving their performance during the season.
4. Encourage warmup exercises.
Calf stretches and light jogging before competition help warm up ligaments and blood vessels, reducing injury risk.
5. Check fields for dips, divots and holes.
Ninety percent of ankle sprains are due to poor playing conditions. That’s why some surgeons recommend walking the field, especially in non-professional settings like public parks, looking for spots that could catch a player’s foot. Alert coaching officials to any irregularities.
6. Watch their technique.
Your child doesn’t need to be involved in a formalized athletic program to be vulnerable to sports-related injuries. Foot and ankle surgeons warn of common injuries like plantar fasciitis, bone spurs, fractures and Achilles tendonitis due to repetitive, forceful motions, which can occur in activities such as skateboarding.
When skateboarding or engaged in other non-formal activities, always wear protective gear, including supportive shoes, and seek treatment when there is pain or injury.
8. Remember RICE.
Often, an injured foot or ankle can be treated with rest, ice, compression and elevation. Those with foot or ankle pain should take a break from playing and allow time for recovery. If pain persists, something more serious may be happening, such as cartilage injuries or broken bones in the foot.
Consult a foot and ankle surgeon for a complete evaluation, proper diagnosis and treatment plan. The sooner rehabilitation starts, the sooner your child can safely get back into the game.

The state of mental health among youth continues to be of public concern. According to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Survey, youth mental health problems have increased significantly over the past decade, reaching an all-time high. For instance, from 2011 to 2021, the rate of female high school students saying they feel sad or hopeless increased from 36% to 57%; for male students this rate increased from 21% to 29%.
Stressors at school, home or elsewhere can cause mental health disorders to arise, leading to negative impacts on how children learn and build relationships with others. If your child may need mental health support and doesn’t currently have health coverage, you have options. Free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) offers many benefits, including doctor’s visits, prescriptions, emergencies and the coverage of behavioral health services, including mental health services through pediatricians, mental health professionals, local community providers and organizations, as well as school systems. People who are pregnant or postpartum may also be eligible for this health coverage and mental and behavioral health services.
Who qualifies for Medicaid or CHIP? Eligibility varies by state and is determined by how many people are in a household and household income. For instance, in most states, a family of four with household income up to $60,000 per year may qualify for Medicaid, CHIP or both. To learn more about state-specific options, visit InsureKidsNow. gov or call 1-877-KIDS-NOW. Enrollment is open year-round.
What if my child currently has Medicaid or CHIP coverage? Medicaid and CHIP coverage must be renewed annually. If you or your children have Medicaid or CHIP, it’s time to pay attention to your health coverage. Keep an eye on the mail for renewal information from your state.
When it comes, complete the forms and send them back right away. Failure or delay in responding can result in you losing coverage, even if you are eligible for Medicaid and CHIP. If you have lost coverage, go to HealthCare.gov to find quality plans and help paying costs. What types of services are covered through Medicaid and CHIP?
To help care for all parts of a child’s health, Medicaid and CHIP also cover routine health care visits, like preventive care, dental and vision checkups, specialist visits, physical, speech and occupational therapies, and emergency services.
These programs also cover a wide range of mental health and substance use services such as counseling, peer support services,
inpatient psychiatric services and case management services for needed medical, educational and social services. Services are covered through Medicaid for children and teens
up to age 21 and through CHIP up to age 19. States have flexibility to determine if services may be delivered using telehealth. These services are necessary to prevent, diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health symptoms and disorders, as well as substance use disorders.
Caring for mental health is caring for overall health. Early detection and intervention of mental health and substance use issues is crucial to the overall health of kids, teens and people during and after pregnancy, and may reduce or eliminate the effects of a condition if detected and treated early. Take the time today to explore coverage options through Medicaid and CHIP. Information provided by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (StatePoint)

Very active - You always manage to get your workout in regardless of how busy you are, whether it’s taking the stairs instead of the lift, you are always active. Bravo!
1. Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Downward Dog’s benefits include opening of the shoulders and the chest, as well as stretching the hamstrings and spine. From a kneeling position on hands and knees, step on the toes keeping the hands and feet securely in place, lifting the bum all the way up towards the ceiling, aiming to gently push the head towards the knees, creating an upside-down V shape. Hands should be shoulder-distance apart, feet hip-distance apart and the gaze between the thighs or at the navel.
Level 1. Place your hands on the back of a chair and try to get your head past the forearms to get a maximum stretch in the shoulders.
Level 2. Use the seat of a chair to get further towards the ground. Bend the knees to relieve tension in the hamstrings.
Level 3. Place hands shoulder distance apart on the mat, and feet hip distance apart, push through the hands and feet, while opening the chest and head towards the floor.
2. Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana)
The Seated Forward Bend stretches the hamstrings and the spine and can relieve pressure in the lower back and back pain in general. From a seated position, stretch out the legs in
front of you, keeping the back as straight as possible, hinge forwards from the hips, trying not to round the back, as far as you can go, and holding the pose there.
Level 1. Sit on the edge of a chair and bend forward at the hips, keeping the spine straight.
Level 2. Wrap a strap around the feet and hold onto it while gently pulling yourself forward keeping the spine as straight as possible.
Level 3. With the legs stretched out in front of you, fold forwards bending at the hips and hold on to the feet, with a slight bend in the knees to relieve any tension in the hamstrings.
3. Triangle Pose (Trikonasana)
Triangle Pose provides a deep stretch in the hamstrings, the side body and spine and opens up the chest and shoulders. From standing, take a big step back, keeping feet on either side of an imaginary line, the front foot facing forwards and the back foot angled inwards at 45 degrees. Raise the arms out by the side, lean the upper body forward over the front leg, and twist the torso so that the front hand comes down to meet the front foot, and the other hand is raised to the sky, keeping the gaze on the upper hand.
Level 1. From standing, take a big step backwards and hold on to the back of a chair with one hand, raising the other hand and upper body towards the sky.
Level 2. Leaning on the chair seat, twist the upper body and upper hand towards the sky. Level 3. Trying to keep the upper body and pelvis tucked in, bend the upper body down
towards the foot whilst rotating the upper body upwards and gaze towards the sky.
4. Warrior II Pose (Virabhadrasana II)
Warrior II works out the core, the thighs and the whole of the legs, opens up the shoulders and tones up the buttocks. From standing, take a big step back, keeping feet on either side of an imaginary line, the front foot facing forwards and the back foot angled inwards at 45 degrees. Bend the front knee so that the knee is directly above the ankle. Raise the arms out by the side, and face forwards, gazing over the front arm.
Level 1. Sit on a chair sideways so that your front leg is over the chair and the back leg is on the floor, foot turned in at a 45-degree angle. Raise the hands up so they are parallel to the floor and gaze forwards.
Level 2. With this variation, you can keep the back knee on the floor or on a block, keeping the front knee directly over the ankle.
Level 3. Keep your weight distributed evenly between the back and front legs, keep the front knee over the ankle and body straight, facing forwards.
5.
Tree Pose is all about balance. starting with both feet firmly rooted on the ground, lift one leg up and bring it to rest as high as possible on the other leg. Bring both hands to the chest in namaste, and when you feel comfortable, lift the arms above the head. To help balance in this pose, it greatly helps to find a stationary focal point somewhere in front of you and gaze at it intently.(Continued On Page 25)

Eating healthy is an important goal for people looking to maintain or improve their physical health, particularly as it relates to the heart. With often conflicting information available online and via social media, it may be difficult or downright confusing to find the eating plan for you.
To help navigate the maze of information – and misinformation – experts assessed and scored the heart healthiness of several popular diets. Each diet was evaluated against the American Heart Association’s guidance for a heart-healthy eating pattern, which emphasizes eating a variety of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, lean proteins (including fish, low- or non-fat dairy and plant proteins), non-tropical plant oils and minimally processed foods; avoiding added sugars, salt
and alcohol; and sticking to this guidance even when you’re eating away from home.
Diets received a rating between 0-100 and were ranked in tiers, with the resulting analysis published as an American Heart Association scientific statement in the journal “Circulation.”
“If implemented as intended, the
top-tier dietary patterns align best with key features of heart-healthy eating and may be adapted to respect cultural practices, food preferences and budgets to enable people to eat this way for the long term,” said Christopher D. Gardner, Ph.D., FAHA, chair of the scientific statement writing committee and the Rehnborg Farquhar Professor of Medicine at Stanford University.
Tier 1: Highest-Rated Eating Plans (scores higher than 85)
The four patterns with the high-
est ratings align best with hearthealthy guidance, are flexible and provide an array of healthy foods to choose from.
• DASH – With a perfect score by meeting all guidance, an eating pattern similar to the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension plan emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, low-fat dairy, lean meats, poultry, fish and non-tropical oils. Nordic and Baltic diets are also examples of this eating pattern, which is low in salt, added sugar, alcohol, tropical oils and processed foods.
• Mediterranean – This pattern limits dairy while emphasizing fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fatty fish and extravirgin olive oil. Because it includes moderate alcohol drinking, rather
Balancing schedules, supplies shopping, meal planning and more can make the back-to-school season one of the most hectic times of the year. Keeping stress at bay may be a little easier when you put a plan in place the entire family can follow.
Remember, making the transition as smooth as possible requires a team effort. Help make a new academic year easier on your little ones (and yourself) with these hacks.
Getting your kids into their school day routines may be a massive undertaking, but it’s often helpful to start weeks before the first bell rings. Set those alarms and encourage kiddos to treat each morning as if they’re going to class. In the evenings, practice prepping backpacks and outfits just as you would during the school year, and ensure children are going to sleep at the times they should on school nights.
Prepping lunchboxes to send to school doesn’t need to be a timeconsuming affair. In fact, it can
be one of the easiest parts of your routine with prepackaged options that help make packing lunches a breeze. Seek out solutions that help simplify the process like Kemps Smooth Cottage Cheese, a first-ofits-kind snack for kids made with 4% whole milk and blended with real fruit to create a smooth and creamy texture without the curds. Available in four-packs of 4-ounce cups in fun flavors like Mixed Berry, Strawberry and Strawberry Banana, it’s a healthy, convenient and versatile solution with probiotics and no high-fructose corn syrup. Plus, it’s high in protein to keep kids feeling full and focused throughout the school day.
Prep the Night Before
Stressful mornings can lead to less productive days. Instead, simplify mornings as much as possible by packing backpacks, prepping lunches and planning outfits in the evenings to save yourself time once that alarm goes off. Plus, you may be less likely to forget essentials like homework assignments or permission slips when you’re not in a rush.
Skip the temptation to stock the pantry with sugary grab-and-go treats. Instead, encourage good nutritional choices for your children
than avoiding or limiting consumption, it scored a few points lower than DASH.
• Vegetarian/Pescatarian – A plantbased eating pattern that includes fish.
• Vegetarian/Ovo/Lacto – Plantbased eating patterns that include eggs (ovo-vegetarian), dairy (lacto-vegetarian) or both (ovo-lacto vegetarian).
Tier 2: Vegan and Low-Fat Diets (scores 75-85)
These eating patterns mostly align with heart-healthy criteria and emphasize important food groups but fell short of reaching the top tier due to limitations.
after a day of learning by offering them healthier snacking solutions. For example, pairing cottage cheese with crackers or fresh fruit provides a protein punch without the added sugar of less healthy snack choices to keep little tummies full until it’s time for a family meal.
The school year certainly isn’t the only time that calendars feel like they’re bursting at the seams, but the addition of after-school activities, field trips, parent-teacher conferences and more can be overwhelming if you’re not prepared.
Find a scheduling solution that works for your family, whether it’s a dry-erase board in a mudroom or magnetic calendar on the fridge. Stay on top of upcoming events and activities by sitting down together once a week (or more) to write down everyone’s commitments and track important dates. To learn more and find fun recipes, visit Kemps.com.
• Vegan – A plant-based eating pattern that includes no animal products. Restrictions in this plan may make it more difficult to follow long term or when dining out. Following a vegan eating pattern increases the risk of some nutrient deficiencies, which may be overcome by supplements or fortified foods.
• Low Fat – A diet that limits fat intake to less than 30% of total calories, including the volumetrics eating plan and therapeutic lifestyle change plan.
These types of plans often treat all fats equally while the American Heart Association’s guidance suggests replacing saturated fats with healthier fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
Those who follow low-fat diets may overconsume less healthy sources of carbohydrates, such as added sugars and refined grains. However, these factors may be overcome with proper counseling and education from a health professional.

Lali’s Flip-Flops
Author Farhana Zia, Illustrator Stephanie Fizer Coleman
Lali’s Flip-Flops” is a heartwarming story of
young girl Lali. After finishing her work, she heads to the market with her money to shop. On her way, she meets several of her animal friends, who request various things—a hen wants lentils, a goat wants berries, and a bird needs ribbon.
At the market, Lali purchases flip-flops for her aching feet.
When she returns with flip-flops for herself,
When the sun is shining and comfortable weather is calling you outdoors, focusing on tasks at work can become a challenge.
Workdays are often long and strenuous, making that blue sky and fresh air all the more tempting.
Don’t let a full to-do list bog you down. In fact, taking a break from your desk and averting your eyes from the computer may actually help you mentally reset and increase efficiency through the remainder of the day.
Consider these popular ways to disconnect for a short while so you can take on busy days without feeling overwhelmed.
1. Stretch – After hours of sitting, stretching from head to toe can be a good way to get physically active if you’re short on time and stuck at your desk. Neck, shoulder, arm, back and leg stretches are all easy ways to stand up and disengage from the computer. Another trick: practice wrist exercises to avoid injury or strain from typing.
2. Go for a Walk – If you have a few minutes to spare, leave the office or your desk at home entirely and head outside for a walk. A stroll through your neighborhood or the city sidewalks can provide the fresh
air and physical activity your body craves.
3.Take Five Outside – On hot days when a mid-workday walk might not be the right refresh, skip it and simply find a shady spot to sit down. You can enjoy the benefits of fresh air and sunlight without getting too hot.
4. Rest Your Eyes – Follow the rule of 20s. If you’re working a computer job, eyestrain may be a serious concern. Give them a break by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
5. Enjoy a Favorite Snack – Push that office chair away from the computer and treat yourself to a bite of something you enjoy. For example, Nestlé rallies nut butter bombs are a perfect cure for those back-to-back video calls, delivering a balance of permissibility and indulgence while helping you rally
through your workday. Available in three craveable flavors – raspberry peanut butter, brownie almond butter and salted cashew butter – the chilled delights combine decadent chocolate and smooth nut butter for a rich burst of flavor with no preservatives, artificial flavors or artificial colors.
6. Check in with Friends –Squeeze in a midday chat to catch up with a friend or coworker. Socializing is a feel-good way to take your mind off work even for just a few minutes.
7. Sip an Afternoon Coffee – If caffeine gives you that much-needed jolt to finish out the workday, head to your favorite local shop for a refreshing iced beverage. Pair it with a chilled snack like Nestlé rallies nut butter bombs for a perfect sweet and savory afternoon pick-me-up.
Find more delicious ways to rally through the day by visiting nestlerallies.com.
her friends are upset. Will Lali be able to get the gifts for her friends? The text has a playful lyricism accompanied by warm, appealing illustrations.
Paula’s Patches

The story showcases the power of creative thinking as a problem-solving tool.
The story follows Paula, a young girl who is embarrassed by the rip in her pants at school and tries everything to hide it from her classmates.
However, when she realizes that other children are also dealing with similar issues, she comes up with a creative solution that not only helps her but also brings smiles and comfort to her classmates.
The back matter also includes instructions on how to make patches, bookmarks, and fabric pouches.
The vibrant illustrations perfectly capture the range of emotions that Paula goes through, from embarrassment to excitement.
Special Message from Author Gabriella Aldeman
“Dear readers,
Can you believe summer is almost over? As you approach the new school year, remember that you are not alone with your jitters— it’s okay to be excited and nervous at the same time.
A new school year is a big deal! I hope this fall is filled with fun moments, new friends, kind teachers, and lots of books!
Always make things your very own, Gabriella Aldeman”
Planning, preparing, serving and cleaning up after mealtimes are skills that can be beneficial to everyone. Yet when it comes to meal prep, many families find it easier to tell children to go play rather than bringing them into the kitchen to help create meals. “One of the best ways to encourage children to try new foods or simply eat their vegetables is to allow them the opportunity to plan and prepare a meal,” said Emily Hicks, a registered dietitian nutritionist for KinderCare Learning Centers.
“Involving children in meal planning, preparation and serving in age-appropriate ways helps give them some autonomy in a world in which they often feel they do not have many choices. This can help reduce stress and food fights at mealtime, creating a more peaceful and enjoyable experience for everyone.” Meal preparation can also bring certain classroom lessons such as counting and fractions to life as children measure ingredients. It can also be an opportunity for an impromptu science lesson
about the parts of plants and animals people eat and the nutritional benefits of healthy foods.
Consider these tips to get kids more involved in mealtimes:
1. Choose mealtimes when the family is typically together and make preparation a team effort. Allow children to pick out vegetables or other items at the grocery store (or from the fridge, freezer or pantry) to prepare. Alternatively,
if you have a few meal options planned for the week, children can help decide what to make on which days. The key is to empower children to make choices, thus helping develop a sense of responsibility and encouraging variety in food choices.
2. Allow children to help wash produce, stir food in mixing bowls, get tools like cutting boards from the cupboard and more. Children can
help peel or chop foods or stir pots or pans with adult guidance. Even younger children can assist by using child-safe utensils to peel or chop food, sprinkle toppings, pour dressings or combine pre-measured meal components.
3. Children can help place food on the table and serve themselves at young ages. Young children may find it easier to serve themselves by using measuring cups instead of serving utensils. Encourage children to try some of each food on the table but try not to push them to eat anything in particular. Instead, give them time and multiple opportunities to try different foods.
If they are able, teach children how to pass food to others at the table and engage in conversation. Sharing at the table can help foster social development and family connections.
4. After mealtime, children can help clean up and put things away. Even if they can’t reach the sink, children can help clear items from
the table. They can also assist with putting dishes in the dishwasher or ferrying clean dishes to an adult to put back in cupboards and drawers. Additionally, they can help wipe up spills and crumbs, and push in chairs, too.
“The benefits of family mealtime go beyond health,” Hicks said. “Involving your children in your mealtime routines can bring food and fun to the table, creating a sense of belonging that will boost the whole family’s well-being. Remember, you don’t have to stick to a routine 100% of the time to be beneficial. Just do your best to keep routines when possible and practice balance.”

Parenting young children is full of love and joy, but it also comes with inevitable challenges.
In fact, according to research conducted by The Goddard School, 83% of parents of children 6 years old and younger have concerns about their children’s behavior. The most common concerns are sleeping habits and aggression.
When it comes to sleep, aggression and another top-of-mind topic for parents of young children – body exploration – understanding what’s to be expected and the appropriate steps to take can mitigate negative experiences for parents and children alike.
To help parents dealing with these situations, Dr. Lauren Starnes, senior vice president and chief academic officer at The Goddard School, and Dr. Jack Maypole, pediatrician at Boston Medical Center and member of The Goddard School’s Educational Advisory
Board, offer this guidance and reassurance.
Sleep deprivation and parenthood often go hand-in-hand, especially during a child’s first 12 months. It may be a surprise to some families that establishing sleep routines for preschoolers can also be challenging. For toddlers and 2-year-olds, the difficulty may be in their newfound freedom of toddler beds.
For older preschoolers, the struggle may be the child’s burgeoning imagination – having scary thoughts, bad dreams or fear of being alone.
For young children, one of the most important elements at bedtime is establishing consistent, predictable sleep routines and not reinforcing sleep disruptions with unintended positive reinforcement like extra attention when they sneak out of bed or climb into bed with their
parents.
Aggressive behavior is common among toddlers and preschoolers. It may look like a sudden shove, kick or snatch of an item. As children mature and gain greater selfcontrol, these behaviors can be redirected and eventually outgrown. Toddlers and 2-year-olds frequently show aggression due to communication frustrations or when seeking independence.
Three- and 4-year-olds more readily exhibit this behavior as they look to control their surroundings, as a cause-and-effect experimentation or reciprocal modeling of behavior that they may have seen elsewhere. The root cause of aggression can often be visually observed and the response will vary accordingly.
Body exploration and self-stimulation is a common behavior seen in
older preschool-aged children. In the preschool years, body exploration is done out of curiosity and as a comforting behavior. Self-stimulatory exploration is most commonly seen at naptime, bath time or bedtime.
Some children may attempt to explore the genitals of others. While the latter may be uncomfortable, it’s important to address privacy, boundaries, consent and respect for others in age-appropriate ways.

Music, hairstyles and fashions may change over time but one thing remains constant: Americans love their coffee and it seems, will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
In fact, the number of Americans who drank coffee in the past day (65%) -- more than any other beverage -- is on the rise, according to the latest “Atlas of American Coffee.”
And Market Research Future predicts that the global coffee market will be worth $112.8 billion by the year 2030.
If you’re like many coffee drinkers these days, you may find yourself preferring your daily dose of caffeine come in the form of specialty coffee.
At a time when many consumers are cutting back in discretionary spending, 2023 data from the National Coffee Association of USA shows that the specialty coffee
market continues to thrive.
At the same time, you likely also prioritize both sustainability and convenience.
As with many products, you may be doing your research about your coffee, looking into your brand of choice’s manufacturing and pro-
duction processes to see how ecofriendly they are, while continuing to expect a quick and handy cup of coffee.
With these values in mind, coffee technology companies are working to innovate the game.
For ex-
ample, NuZee Inc., a leading coffee technology and co-packing company, recognized the growing popularity of single-serve coffee
and has made brewing just one cup of coffee as convenient as preparing a cup of tea.
“We saw a need to bring highquality, single-serve coffee options to the market that are also more sustainable and eco-friendly,” says Masa Higashida, CEO of NuZee Inc.
The brand sells both single serving pour over kits and coffee brew bag filters that make it possible to prepare a cup of coffee from anywhere you have access to hot water, including your home, the workplace and when traveling.
And because NuZee will soon be rolling out industrially compostable brew bag filters, and the company uses recyclable foil boxes for its single-serve coffee products, it’s also an eco-conscious way to enjoy a fresh, single serving of coffee. To learn more, visit mynuzee.com.
When it comes to your cup of joe, convenience and sustainability don’t have to be at odds.
Thanks to recent innovations, you can enjoy a fresh-brewed cup of coffee at home or on-the-go that you can feel good about. (StatePoint)
Fort St. George (or historically, White Town) is a fortress at the coastal city of Chennai, India. Founded in 1639, it was the first English (later British) fortress in India.
The construction of the fort provided the impetus for further settlements and trading activity, in what was originally an uninhabited land.
Thus, it is a feasible contention to say that the city (formerly named Madras) evolved around the fortress. The fort currently houses the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly and other official buildings.
The church
St. Mary’s Church is the oldest Anglican church in India. It was built between 1678 and 1680 on the orders of the then Agent of Madras Streynsham Master. The tombstones in its graveyard are the oldest English or British tombstones in India.
This ancient prayer house solemnised the marriages of Robert Clive and Governor Elihu Yale, who later became the first benefactor of Yale University in the United States.
The Fort Museum, which is the only ticketed institution of the Archaeological Survey of India in the complex, exhibits many items of the period of English and later British rule.
This building was completed in 1795 and first housed the office of the Madras Bank. The hall upstairs was the Public Exchange Hall and served as a place for public meetings, lottery draws and occasional entertainment.
These relics are reminders of British rule in India. The objects on display in the museum are the weapons, coins, medals, uniforms and other artefacts from England, Scotland, France and India dating back to the colonial period.
Original letters written by Clive and Cornwallis make fascinating reading. One set of quaint period uniforms is displayed for view-
ing, as well. However, the pièce de resistance is a large statue of Lord Cornwallis.
The National Flag of India was designed by Pingali Venkayya and adopted in its present form during the meeting of the Constituent Assembly held on 22 July 1947, a few days before India’s independence from Britain on 15 August 1947.
The first ever flag flown after the independence is stored in the third floor of the museum. The public are allowed to see but not to touch or take photographs.
The museum is mentioned in the
Wellesley House
The first floor of the building includes the Banqueting Hall, which holds paintings of the Governor of the Fort and other high officials of the Regime.
The canons of Tipu Sultan decorate the ramparts of the museum. The 4.4-metre (14.5 ft) statue stands at the entrance near a stairway in the museum.
This statue was created by Charles Bank in England to be brought to
India.
The pedestal of the statue is carved with a scene depicting Tipu Sultan’s emissary handing over Tipu’s two sons as hostage in lieu of a ransom he was unable to pay to the British.
It takes its name from Richard Wellesley, Governor General of
India, and brother of the Duke of Wellington.
Flag staff
The flag staff at the fort is one of the tallest in the country. Made of teakwood, it is 46 metres (150 ft) high.

Once upon a time, in a jungle there lived a jackal by the name of Gomaya. One day, he was very hungry and was wandering in search of food.
While wandering, he came across a battle field. There he saw a big drum lying under a tree.
When the wind blew, a tender branch grown at the root of the tree struck the drum producing sound of a drum beat.
The jackal examined the drum from all sides and then beat the drum with his front paws.
The drum made a sound. Now the jackal thought that there might be some other small animal inside the drum and that would make a very tasty meal for him.
But he found the top of the drum too tough to tear off.
The jackal thought of a plan and
began to beat the drum with both his front paws.
The sound of drumbeat filled the whole jungle. A leopard who was attracted towards the sound of the drum, came near it.
The jackal said to the leopard, “Your Majesty, there is some animal hiding inside the drum.
Since you have sharp claws and
strong teeth, you can tear off the top of the drum and catch your prey inside the drum.
The leopard was himself hungry So he hit the top of the drum with his heavy paws.
The drum burst with a sound, but there was no animal inside. The drum was empty.
Seeing the empty drum, the leopard became very angry and said to the jackal, “You have wasted my time. There is no food inside the drum. So I will kill and eat you.”
The leopard pounced upon the jackal and killed and ate him. Moral: Greed is always harmful
ships.
The scholarships will be awarded to economically disadvantaged students who are pursuing education and training in high-demand fields, such as healthcare, technology, and business.
Back to school is a time of new beginnings for kids. Between classroom learning, extracurricular activities, sports and socializing, fun and filling snacks can help kids have a moment away from schoolyear pressures while also encouraging all that excitement and learning.
In fact, nearly 3 in 4 Americans snack at least once a day, according to an International Food Information Council survey conducted by Ipsos. When it comes to your children’s snack time, here’s how to make these occasions more delicious:
The back-to-school season is not only hectic for kids, but it’s also busy for parents too. Having conveniently packaged snacks on hand can be a time-saving game-changer this school year!
Serving your kids baked goods made from high-quality ingredients can be as simple as opening a box of Entenmann’s. With 125 years of baking experience, the brand’s wide variety of delicious baked goods is a fun addition to any breakfast or lunch box, and can even be enjoyed as an after-school treat!
This fall, be sure to add these favorites to your snack line-up: Powdered Pop’ettes, Pop’ems Glazed Donut Holes and Baker’s Delights Mini Crumb Cake.
Baker’s Delights are individually wrapped snack cakes that are a great option for on-the-go snacking or a sweet addition to any lunch. Want to get creative? Check out entenmanns.com for a variety of recipes that put a twist on classic Entenmann’s treats.
Savory Snacks
Balance the sweet with some savory snacks too. For after school, stock your fridge with items like baby carrots and hummus, crackers and cheese, plus ingredients needed for hearty snacks like ham and cheese pinwheels.
Having these items handy can make it easy to feed hungry kids or allow them to serve themselves. Plus, they’ll be all set for their afternoon, whether that entails homework or hanging out with friends.
For on-the-go bites to pack in lunch boxes or bring to sports games, consider sandwich baggies filled with nuts, pretzel sticks and cheddar cheese slices.
Amid the stress and anxiety of a new school year, sweet treats and savory snacks can help keep your kids satisfied, while also providing a moment away from the demands of school. (StatePoint)
Hindu Charities for America (dba Education and Careers for America/EC4A) is hosting its annual scholarship gala on October 7, 2023, to raise funds for scholarships to be awarded in 2024. The gala will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott Austin and Pflugerville Conference Center, and will feature a cocktail reception, entertainment, dinner, live music, and a silent auction.
Last year’s gala, in aggregate, raised over $120,000, which supported over 120 scholarships.
These scholarships helped students and heads of households get jobs that paid better than living wages.
The scholarships also supported a pilot program with the African American Youth Harvest Foundation (AAYHF) to provide certification courses to homeless youth.
With your support, HC4A is hoping to raise even more funds this year to support even more scholar-
The gala is a great opportunity to support a worthy cause and help change the lives of students who are working hard to improve their future.
More information will be sent out soon. Sponsorship opportunities are also available that will be published.

Together, we can bridge income disparities through education!
About HC4A: HC4A is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to bridging income disparities through education.
The organization provides scholarships, workforce training, and other educational resources to students from low-income families.
HC4A also works to raise awareness about the importance of education and to advocate for policies that support educational equity.
It is an annual tradition for Hindu Charities for America (HC4A) to kick off the summer with Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt (BMBB), a joint event with Jewish Community Center.
At BMBB, they celebrate the power of various cultures through dance while also raising money for school supplies for their annual backpacking event.
HC4A provides school supplies to economically disadvantaged children by partnering with the local school districts of Manor, Austin and Del Valle.
In addition, they provide school supplies to other organizations
such as Share the Will Foundation, Greater Love Baptist Church, Dow Spring Proud and Asian Families Support Services of Austin. This year, they will also be supporting the African American Youth Harvest Foundation that strives to enhance the quality of life for African American and lowincome youth and families in the Austin area.
Unfortunately, due to logistical reasons, HC4A had to cancel this annual opportunity to empower young children with education.
“Do you know how heartbreaking it is to tell the schools that we’ve been serving for 12 years that we cannot provide the school supplies and support [the students]?” Harish
Kotecha said.
However, the tide turned when a few key supporters and donors encouraged the board to not back down and continue pursuing donations.
An email plea to the donors allowed people to open up their hearts, and HC4A quickly raised the needed money to provide school supplies to 1,400 underprivileged children this year!
“It was a joyous moment to call back these schools and convey to them that we are indeed able to provide school supplies, “ Kotecha said. “It was the satisfaction you get from keeping a promise.”
Two notable sponsors that played
an indispensable role in resuming the backpacking event were Sai Charities of Austin and D.M. Pest Control.
Sai Charities of Austin that supports the education and nourishment of disadvantaged kids, both in the Austin community and in India.
This organization works closely with LISD to support the backpack food program at various schools, which provides packaged food items to low-income kids for the weekends.
School supplies are also provided annually both at LISD Schools and through Hindu Charities for America.
Each year they provide four scholarships at Austin Community College, which provides a two-year degree to single mothers and a means to support their families.
D.M. Pest Control, which has sponsored HC4A events and provided services through silent auction, is a family owned & operated business that has been serving the Central Texas area for over 25 years. They provide a healthy and safe means to maintain a pest-free environment in homes and businesses.
The school supplies packing event on August 6th at 1:00 pm at Shalom Austin (JCC), 7300 Hart Lane, Austin, TX 78731.
More information will be available on our website with volunteering opportunities.

Chandrayaan-3 consists of an indigenous Lander module (LM), Propulsion module (PM) and a Rover with an objective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for Inter planetary missions.
The Lander will have the capability to soft land at a specified lunar site and deploy the Rover which will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface during the course of its mobility. The Lander and the Rover have
scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface.
The main function of PM is to carry the LM from launch vehicle injection till final lunar 100 km circular polar orbit and separate the LM from PM.
Apart from this, the Propulsion Module also has one scientific payload as a value addition which will be operated post separation of Lander Module.
The launcher identified for Chandrayaan-3 is GSLV-Mk3 which will place the integrated module in an Elliptic Parking Orbit (EPO) of size ~170 x 36500 km.
The mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3 are:
To demonstrate Safe and Soft Landing on Lunar Surface
To demonstrate Rover roving on the moon and
To conduct in-situ scientific experiments.
To achieve the mission objectives, several advanced technologies are present in Lander such as,
Altimeters: Laser & RF based Altimeters
Inertial Measurement: Laser Gyro based Inertial referencing and Accelerometer package

We need it to be booed so with that I want to say thank you thank you for letting me be part of this. Thank you.
India’s Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft moved into a new, higher, orbit around the Earth on Thursday after the successful completion of the fourth orbit-raising manoeuvre, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.
“India celebrates the International Moon Day 2023 by propelling Chandrayaan-3 a step closer to the moon.
The fourth orbit raising manoeuvre (Earthbound perigee firing) is performed successfully from ISTRAC/ISRO (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network), Bengaluru,” the ISRO tweeted.
Chandrayaan-3, which is slated to make a soft landing on the Moon’s surface next month, is currently going around the Earth in elliptical orbits, sequentially raising the heights of these orbits.
The spacecraft is supposed to make five such orbit-raising manoeuvres to continuously move into higher and higher orbits before beginning to move directly towards the moon.
Once there, it would do similar exercises to slowly get into lower and lower orbits
around the moon before eventually reaching a circular orbit about 100 km from the lunar surface. It is from this circular orbit that the final descent to the Moon’s surface would take place on August 23 or 24.
Chandrayaan-3 is taking a circuitous route in its journey, rather than travelling directly to the Moon, in order to economise the entire travel.
A direct trip to the Moon, which takes about four days, would require much heavier rockets, and huge amounts of fuel, to leave the space further into space.
Instead, Chandrayaan-3 was taken to a near Earth orbit, from where it has been utilising the force of gravity to gain momentum, and then fire thrusters to accelerate and reach a higher orbit.
This process involves burning of a much lesser amount of fuel but takes a longer time to reach the Moon.
The fifth and final orbit-raising manoeuvre in the earth orbit is scheduled to take place between 2 pm and 3 pm on July 25, the ISRO stated.

(Continued From Page 05)
Level 1. Lean on the back of a chair with one hand, and rest one foot on the calf of the opposite leg.
Level 2. Just as in the Level 1 variation, lean on the back of a chair with one hand, but rest the one foot on the inner thigh of the other leg.
Level 3. Bring one foot to the inner thigh of the opposite leg, and try to bring the hands to the chest at Namaste.
6. Revolved Triangle Pose (Parivritta Trikonasana)
Like Triangle Pose, Revolved Triangle Pose provides a deep stretch to the hamstrings and the side body. From standing, take a big step back, keeping feet on either side of an imaginary line, the front foot facing forwards and the back foot angled inwards at 45 degrees. Raise the arms out to the side, then twist the body so that the opposite hand comes to rest down on the front foot, and the other hand is raised to the sky, keeping the gaze on the upper hand.
Level 1. Leaning on the back of a chair with the opposite hand (if the left foot is forward, lean on the chair with the right hand), raise the other hand to the sky twisting the torso up in the direction of the hand.
Level 2. Leaning on the seat of a chair with the opposite hand, (if the left foot is forward, lean on the chair with the right hand), raise the other hand to the sky, twisting the torso up towards the hand.
Level 3. In the full expression of the pose, you can rest the hand that is not in the air on the floor, on a block on the floor, on the lower leg or even on the upper leg.
7. Intense Side Stretch (Parsvottanasana)
Intense Side Stretch is an intense hamstring stretcher, so if at any point you wish to bend the front leg, that’s completely acceptable. From standing, take a big step back (a little less than you would for Warrior or Triangle Poses), keeping feet on either side of an imaginary line, the front foot facing forwards and the back foot angled inwards at 45 degrees. Bring the hands behind the back, either in reverse namaste or grabbing either elbow, keep the spine straight and hinge forward at the hips, gazing at the big toe.
Level 1. Lean on the back of a chair, keeping the spine straight as you hinge forward at the hips.
Level 2. Lean on the seat of a chair for a slightly deeper stretch.
Level 3. Place hands behind back hinging forward at the hips, sucking in the lower bel-
ly to get down as far as possible while keeping the spine straight.
8. Half Moon Pose (Ardha Chandrasana)
Half Moon Pose is a balancing pose which helps tone the legs, bum and abs as well as increasing balance. From standing, hinge forward at the hips while you simultaneously lift one leg straight out behind you. If the left foot is on the floor, place the left hand on the ground, raising the right hand up and twisting the torso towards the sky.
Level 1. Lean on the back of a chair and raise your leg out behind you to be parallel to the floor. The legs should make a right angle.
Level 2. Lean on the seat of a chair, and twist the torso and upper arm towards the sky. Level 3. In the full expression of the pose, you can either lean on a block or the floor and/or, if there is too much pressure in the hamstrings, put a slight bend in the standing leg.
9.
This is another balancing pose to help practise your balancing skills while at the same time stretching the hamstrings. From standing, lift the knee up to the chest and with the same hand, grab the big toe, with the arm on the outside of the knee. Slowly straighten the leg, while keeping the back straight.
Level 1. Sit in a chair and lift the leg out in front of you, keeping it straight and holding it with both hands, as high as it will go. Level 2. Wrap a strap around the foot, and, holding onto the strap, raise the foot up as high as it will go, whilst keeping the back straight.
Level 3. In the full expression of the pose, trying to keep the back straight and the shoulder back is important, so if you feel that your balancing skills are good but keeping the back straight is not possible, a strap is the way to go till the flexibility in the hamstring has improved.
Half Lotus is the way to go to be able to eventually get into full Lotus Pose. The Half Lotus Forward Bend stretches the hips and thigh muscles and also is a great stretch for the back. Starting in standing, bring one leg into a Standing Half Lotus. Hinging forward at the hips, go all the way down till the hands touch the floor, keeping the head loose so there is no tension in the neck.
Level 1. Sitting in a chair, bring one foot to rest on the opposite knee, resting your hands on the knees.
Level 2. From the Level 1 variation, bring your arms in front of the knees, leaning the torso forwards towards the floor.
Level 3. Leaning on blocks or props is fine for the full variation of the pose, just make sure the head is floppy so as to not put any pressure in the neck.
Eagle Pose stretches the arms and legs, and helps improve balance. From standing, wrap the left leg around the right leg, keeping a bend in both legs, and then wrap the right arm around the left arm, keeping the gaze forward, and a bend in the knees. Hold for 3-5 breathes, slowly stand up, and then repeat on the other side.
Level 1. Sitting in a chair, put the left leg over the right knee, and the left elbow into the inside of the right elbow, bringing the hands together, back-to-back.
Level 2. Sitting in a chair, bring the left leg as far over the right knee as possible, tucking in the left foot inside the right calf. Then wrap the right arm around the left arm, bringing the palms together.
Level 3. Take it slow. First slowly wrap the left leg around the right leg, and bend the knees, like you’re sitting in a chair. Then wrap the right arm around the left arm, bringing the palms together. Keep your balance by keeping your gaze on a stationary focal point.
12. Pigeon Pose (Kapotasana)
This beautiful pose helps stretch the hamstrings, thighs and spine. From Downward Dog, bring one knee forward and rest it in between the hands, and sit on the floor, keeping the back leg straight. Keep the torso straight and lift the foot higher up on the mat as and when it feels comfortable.
Level 1. Straddle a chair, keeping the back leg and torso as straight as possible.
Level 2. Bending the front knee, bring it to
rest on the seat of a chair, keeping the back leg and torso as straight as possible.
Level 3. If you can’t quite rest on the floor in the full expression of this pose, feel free to put a block or cushion under the bum.
13. Low Plank Pose (Chaturanga Dandasana)
This is the infamous Chaturanga Dandasana; the yoga half push-up. This pose tones up the arms, torso, legs and is pretty much a full body workout. You can get into a Chaturanga either from Downward Dog by bringing the body forward and slowly lowering the body down by bending the arms, but keeping the body straight, or by lying on the floor on your belly, and lifting the body up. The elbows should not come back past the body.
Level 1. Leaning on a chair, bend the elbows so that the body lowers down towards the chair, keeping the body straight. Another variation is to start by bringing the knees to the floor.
Level 2. From a lying down position, push on the hands and lift the torso, keeping the knees to the floor, and elbows by your side.
Level 3. In the full pose, try to keep the heels forward as opposed to leaning back into them. Keep the elbows by your side and remember to breathe!
14. Plough (or Plow) Pose (Halasana)
Plough is a great pose to do at the end of your yoga practice, and can be quite relaxing especially if you find the variation for you. It’s a pose typically entered into from Shoulder Stand (have a look at our comprehensive guide to Shoulder Stands for beginners), and its benefits include relieving swollen legs and improving circulation.
Level 1. Lie down and bring the legs straight up towards the sky. Prop a block or cushion under your bum keeping the legs straight up, or slightly slanted inwards towards the head.
Level 2. Lifting the bum off the floor (using the hands on the lower back to help prop the bum up) place the feet on a chair, stool or the wall behind your head. You can keep the hands on the lower back for support, or if you feel up to it and for a better ab workout, put them on the floor.
Level 3. If you choose to put the feet on the floor behind your head, make sure you can breathe properly, as this is the most important thing. If the breathing is constricted in any way, lift the feet off the floor. Remember to take it easy, use props, straps, blocks, etc., whenever possible to ease yourself into poses. Be safe and above all, have fun! (Courtesy: https://lotsofyoga.com/)

With these roles, Suriya has proved that he is capable of pulling off a massy as well as a classy role. But it’s his ‘Rolex Sir entry’ in Vikram, which made him an overnight panIndia sensation and has now become a cult.
I still remember watching Vikram in the theater and when Suriya appeared on screen, the movie hall turned into a stadium and people were shouting on top of their lungs. His appearance was so shocking, that it took me few seconds to realize, “Ohh sh*t! That’s Suriya”. According to me, It was one of the best entry scenes of a villain in a film after O-Ren Ishii’s entry in Kill Bill.
There are many scenes in the film, where the syndicate members refer to Rolex, and his name is enough to strike fear in their hearts. Even Sandhanam, who was the main villain in Vikram, was afraid of Rolex and that made me think, “Aakhir hai kaun ye Rolex?”. Finally, when Rolex entered the scene, his personality was far more dreadful than I had imagined and that was one of the things that made his entry so iconic.
Probably one of the best BGMs of 2022, Rolex’s entry scene BGM went viral on Instagram reels and
The scene is a masterclass by Lokesh Kanagarj and if you look at it frame by frame, you could clearly see how Lokesh has showcased us the shifts in power dynamics through different frames. Before the face revelation of Suriya, Lokesh showcases Rolex listening to music on a Marshall speaker (on which, the BGM starts) and consuming drugs, but when one of his henchmen tries to give him a suggestion, Rolex instantly butchers his head and then the camera cuts to the gang members gasping in fear.
The frame then quickly cuts to an extreme close-up shot of Rolex’s face and now his face is exerting full frame, which signifies that he is the higher authority in that situation, whereas all of the gang members are shown in a wide frame. This scene also depicts that Rolex is not up for any suggestions, he just wants results. He also laughs at the severed head and this showcases that he lacks any human emotionality and is a pure evil.
4.
The blood-soaked head-butchering should have been enough to strike fear in everyone’s heart who was present there. But Rolex wants more, so he goes to one of his henchmen, played by Arjun Das, and asks him to call him Sir… ‘Rolex Sir!”. (Courtesy: https:// www.mensxp.com/)
