Senate Calls on BoT to begin Search for New President BY: The Caravan Staff @Caravan_AUC The University Senate on February 5 voted by an 80 percent majority in favor of Resolution 760/2019 which expressed no confidence in President Francis Ricciardone “to lead AUC in a manner that enables our faculty, staff and administrators to educate and serve our students”.

The motion of no confidence was introduced on the Senate floor after it had passed by 90 percent in a secret ballot vote during a General Faculty meeting just two days earlier.

The vote of no confidence was set in motion following a letter of protest sent to Ricciardone by Chair of the History Department Pascale Ghazaleh after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke at the New Cairo campus on January 10.

However, AUC senators said the vote came primarily as a result of concern about the way the university is being managed without the involvement of the faculty.

During the February 3 and February 5 meetings, faculty said they were frustrated at the lack of shared governance, lack of transparency and disregard for the Faculty Handbook.

Ghazaleh’s letter stressed the lack of shared governance, particularly when faculty and the Senate are not consulted on matters relevant to the university’s best interests.

“I do not believe I am the only member of the AUC “community” who was taken by surprise at the news that Mike Pompeo was speaking at the university.

Were any of the members of our community consulted as to whether it was a good idea to bring a former CIA director who has spoken in favor of torture to AUC?” Ghazaleh’s said in a January 13 email sent to faculty.

Ricciardone defended the Pompeo visit saying that it helped reaffirm AUC’s international standing.

“This visit did serve to remind global audiences, people outside Egypt who

have very mistaken apprehensions about this country, that Egypt and AUC are welcoming and safe places,” he said.

However, he acknowledged that faculty frustrations were rooted in bigger issues than the Pompeo visit.

“I recognize that this isn’t just about the comment of the speech or even about the speech, but also several other points that others raised here,” Ricciardone said.

He added that not everyone shared his views that “substantial progress” had been made in resolving core issues including updating the Faculty Handbook.

When it came to the issue of shared governance with the Senate, Ricciardone said that AUC policies should be referred to that body for ‘review’ and ‘advice’.

“I see the Senate as a vitally important element of shared governance at this university. And I urge that together, we and the senate and the administration establish the most collegial constructive communication in consultation of issues of community concerns,” he said.

But Ghazaleh told The Caravan that

higher administration had failed to communicate with or listen to the faculty and the Senate for months.

The core issue has been the debate on the faculty handbook.

Although the faculty handbook is the basis of faculty contracts, it has become rather discarded, according to faculty members, when administration officials make decisions.

“The president has referred to the faculty handbook - our governance document and the basis for our contracts - as non binding. He has disregarded our rights and ignored our representatives,” said Ghazaleh.

The issue of the Faculty Handbook’s significance was emphasized in the Senate’s Resolution 761/2019 for the Way Forward, which passed with an 83 percent majority during the February 5 special session.

Over the years, the Board of Trustees has rejected calls by the senate to recognize the 2015-2016 version of the handbook as binding.

on the Board of Trustees to declare “the Faculty Handbook (FHB) version of 2015 binding, with the understanding that the current ongoing revisions of that FHB shall be continued”.

As an immediate extension to the no-confidence vote, the Way Forward also called on the Board of Trustees to not renew Ricciardone’s term beyond the end of June 2020, “and that the Board of Trustees will adopt clear succession plans including starting the search for a new president this coming summer”.

Moreover, the resolution demands that “no university policies are implemented without being vetted and approved by the University Senate”.

Following the Senate resolutions, the Student Union expressed its support for the faculty.

“The current administration has proved its inability to cope with students and faculty needs, and accordingly must either change its actions or the administration must be changed,” read the SU’s post on their Facebook page.

AUC Students Go Online to Tackle Issues in Egypt’s Education System By: Omar El Behery @omarrelbehery Egyptian Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawki praised AUC student efforts to improve the national education system during the closing ceremony of the Student Union (SU) Real Life competition at Moataz Al-Alfi Hall on February 4.

This year’s competition focused on education and was designed to prepare students for real life scenarios after graduation,and provide them with a unique learning experience.

“Private tutoring is addictive,” Shawki said.

“Many people do not necessarily care about education. They want the grade. They want to go to college,” he added.

Shawki said that teachers are resisting the reforms that the government is trying to apply to improve the education system, and that some parents play a role in slowing down the educational progress in Egypt.

The competition, which was organized

by SU members Engy Ibrahim and Jana Aboughali in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, focused on finding viable

solutions to systemic problems in Egypt’s education system.

AUC Provost Ehab Abdel-Rahman and Vice-President for Student Life Deena Boraie celebrated the success of the top two teams and Shawki’s attendance along with members of AUC’s community.

The provost thanked Shawki, who was the former Dean of the School of Sciences and Engineering, praising his efforts and dedication to improving the educational sector in Egypt.

“History will remember two people in Egypt’s educational system, Rifaa AlTahtawi and Tarek Shawki,” he said.

Shawki responded by sharing his optimism about the future of education in Egypt and praised the AUC teams and the university for their efforts.

The winning team, comprised of students from the School of Sciences and Engineering, Nour El Ein ElTahawy, Marwan Sayed, Yehia Elkorma, Asser Hangal, and Business student Mohamed Abdelhamid, designed an online education platform to serve teachers, students and parents.

Known as Madrastak, it allows parents to

participate in the educational development of their children by having the same access as the students.

Madrastak also provides training and assistance to teachers with the intention to motivate them, and aims to enhance the students’ scholastic experience by ensuring that they are up-to-date with their learning material.

Madrastak won the competition’s grand prize of EGP 40,000.

The runner-up team also built an online educational platform called Tamayoz, or excellence, which provided a variety of high quality features and learning experiences to completely qualify teachers within a fivemonth period.

The minister praised both groups for their remarkable efforts in trying to develop ideas towards resolving educational issues in Egypt.

“The event was very informative, I learned about various struggles that Egypt’s educational system is facing,” said Management of Information and Communication Technology student Yara Ahmed.

“I really think that both teams presented good ideas that might solve a big problem.”

2 | CAMPUS NEWS MEPI Palestinian Students Assured Scholarship until Graduation By: Nada Mostafa @NadaMnaguib The Provost has assured Palestinian students of their future at AUC after the US State Department revoked funding for the Tomorrow’s Leaders (TL) Scholarship Program for students from the West Bank and Gaza strip.

“Palestinian Tomorrow’s Leaders scholars can complete their courses up to graduation and enjoy the same benefits to what they had under the Tomorrow’s Leaders program,” Provost Abdel Rahman said in an email to AUC on January 31.

The Scholarship program which the US had initiated in 2007 and funded through the US Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)“provides educational opportunities to outstanding youth with leadership potential from different countries in the Arab World,” according to its description on the AUC website.

Program Officer Reem Khedr explained that the revoking of funding from Palestinian nationals came shortly after the Anti-Terrorism Clarification Act (ATCA) was approved by the US Congress in October 2018.

AUC was informed of the decision to revoke the funding on January 4 during the winter break, effective January 31.

“They were waiting for all of us to come back [from winter break] so we’d all meet officially [and be told] what was going to happen,” explained Lama Aaloul, a graduating senior majoring in Graphic Design, and a former TL. “Those who are eligible [for the program] are students form the MENA region, but we were informed

that Palestinian nationality holders will no longer be part of the program effective end of January.”

In his email, the Provost said: “The referenced change in the US law will have no financial or practical impact on our students: they will continue in their studies at AUC without interruption.”

The revoking of funding to Palestinian students by the US State Department has sparked in TLs of other nationalities.

“My other TL friends all said they feel unsafe now because these things can happen to any of us,” said Aaloul.

“We came here for a four-year scholarship. This was very unexpected. It really hit us.”

Khedr shared the same concern over the wellbeing of other TLs. “Psychologically speaking, of course, they are frustrated and they feel that it’s very unfair for their Palestinian friends and colleagues,” she said.

“It could happen to any other nationality if it could happen to Palestinians. They are all very disappointed,” said Khedr.

Furthermore, being a TL was part of the students’ identities, that they have suddenly lost.

“I used to identify myself as a Tomorrow’s Leader, and that was something I felt proud to be called and to be identified as,” Aaloul said.

“Unfortunately for us, the Palestinians here, we cannot call ourselves that.”

Aaloul said she was thankful for the comforting words from the Provost. “[The Provost assured] us not to worry about any of the finances and told us that once you’re an AUCian, you’ll always be an AUCian.”

Program to Boost Student Leadership Skills By: Nada Tarek Rashed @NadaTarek The American University in Cairo will begin offering a Leadership Institute Program for student leaders to learn leadership skills and develop solutions to real-life problems this semester.

The initiative is under the office of the Dean of Students and supported by the Vice President for Student Life Deena Boraie, who also provided funding for the program.

“We wanted to show students who are in leadership positions at AUC Clubs and associations the skills and the behaviors that make other students want to follow them,” said Dean of Students George Marquis, who founded the program.

The program is free of charge and will be open to student leaders in their sophomore or junior years.

“We wanted students who want to be in leadership positions at AUC clubs and associations. We know that these students can benefit from leadership skills,” said Marquis.

Beginning February 5 and running every week for 12 weeks, students will receive two-and-a-half hours of instruction from Business and Education Professor Kevin B. O’Connell.

“It’s a course that is similar to the Business Leadership Course offered by the business department but for free without any costs,” said Student Union (SU) President Saeed Zakaria.

Students in leadership positions were informed about this opportunity by emails from the Office of Student Life, the Office of Athletics, the Dorms and the SU. “When Dr. Marquis informed me, I instantly sent [the information] to leaders of organizations in addition to the SU Chairs on the WhatsApp

groups to encourage them to join this program,” said Zakaria.

In a bid to incentivize the non-credit program, students who complete the 12 weeks will receive a certificate which can be added to their co-curricular transcript.

Marquis stressed that this course will help students in their real-life experiences and internships outside AUC. “We will also recognize them as representatives of the community… we will rely on them if we need to invite student representatives for example on the Centennial event or meetings with the Board of Trustees,” he said.

Any roles and responsibilities which come with earning the certificate will not conflict with the SU’s current campus roles.

“This won’t conflict the roles, how-

ever, this is a very good thing to make other students try the experience of representing students and leading them,” shared Zakaria.

But Finance senior and Model Council of Minister (MCM) Human Associate Resources Director Mayar Hamza believes that leadership roles are not restricted to student activities alone, but also experienced in group projects, internships and sports.

“I think this program must be offered to all AUC students not only Students in leadership positions,” Hamza told The Caravan.

Marquis promised that this program can be opened up to all AUC students. He explained that the only reason it is starting with student leaders is because of the capacity of the course, currently at a maximum of 30 students.

“The book fair is now on the same level as the Frankfurt Book Fair,” Abdel Rahman continued.

Hoping to encourage its citizens to read more and facilitating a large turnout, fair organizers partnered with Mwasalat Misr (Transportation Egypt), making it the official transportation sponsor. Mwasalat Misr offered up to 32 buses to transport those who wished to visit the fair until its February 5 closing.

“The change in location is definitely a smart move, though I will deeply miss the traditional set up, one which I grew up visiting year after year,” said Abdelrahman.

This year’s Fair was particularly a boon for AUC Press. In an email last week, AUC President Francis Ricciardone said that AUC Press was experiencing record sales at the Fair, often running out of stock.

But while the (CIBF) celebrated its new and improved location and variety of books available, Cairo’s traditional used books sellers, regular vendors at previous book fairs known as Soor El Azbakeya, boycotted.

“There has been tension between us and the Cairo International Book Fair for many years and leaving us out of it has been hinted a lot,” Sameh Adel, a used book seller in Soor El

Azbakeya for the past 26 years, told The Caravan.

Adel claims that the organizers of the fair told Soor El Azbakeya vendors that there was not enough room to accommodate all of them in the new venue. As a result, they had to choose only 33 vendors to attend and left out 75, a sacrifice the traditional book sellers refused to make.

They decided to boycott the CIBF this year as a show of resistance, and instead, organized their own fair for those willing to trade the more newer, more spacious venue for discounts and deals on their books of choice.

“We steal away their customers and that’s the problem,” said Adel.

“Our prices are much cheaper and therefore more competitive. Especially with the economic state at the moment, a lot of people can’t afford new books so they come to us.”

However, a lot of Soor El Azbakeya vendors violate copyright law and print illegal copies of both Arabic and English books selling them for as low as EGP 20, a small fraction of the original price.

“These illegal printers ruined Soor El Azbakeya for us, we always dealt with only used books, but these illegally printed books took away our image and reputation,” added Adel. “[The organizers of the fair] could have just restricted the illegal printers and allowed us to participate.”

CIBF 2.0 Brings a Nation Back to Reading

The entire setup of the fair was upgraded for its 50th anniversary, doing away with the tents which once housed a majority of retailers and did little to protect thousands of

changes, including wind and rain.

The Fair relocated to a more equipped 45,000 square meter venue in New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement, divided into 723 sections with capacity for 748 publishers and 525 publishing agents.

Within days of the January 23 opening, the grounds were over-

their hands on the latest releases and rediscover the book fair they were once so familiar with.

By February 4, the fair had managed to attract over a million visitors.

“For the book fair to get this impressive makeover for its fiftieth anniversary means that 50 is only the beginning,” said former panel host

The Pen Which Records Everything

On my 19th birthday, my best friends got me a pen that records. It also takes pictures but I don’t think they knew this when they were buying it. I swear I’ve never used it.

Every single media ethics class I’ve taken mentions the use of such equipment as unethical and borderline dangerous… probably extremely dangerous depending

on the situation. And I agree. I really do.

But I think a huge part of me picked journalism as an area of study because I’ve always been naturally curious about everything around me. If I hear the leaves in the garden crinkle in the middle of the night, you can definitely count on me to jump out of bed with a flashlight. I don’t think my pen recorder would help me out very much though.

I know there is a thin line between being a journalist and being a detective but part of being a reporter has a lot to do with ‘uncovering’ something, whatever that something is. That’s not so far off from being a detective.

As a student reporter, I am lucky to have covered a lot of heated arguments at AUC, whether they had to deal with student politics or, my personal favorite, Student Union elections.

This is definitely nothing compared to what real reporters cover but anyway, last Sunday, I attended the General Faculty Meeting. Then on Tuesday, I attended the

emergency Special Senate meeting which also included the faculty senate and members of the administration, such as the President and the Provost.

Post both meetings, I honestly couldn’t help but wonder what happens behind the closed doors of the AUC’s administration building.

Well, I mostly wonder what happens behind the closed doors of every institution because there is definitely more to the diplomatic, framed answers to any question you ask.

Part of what I love so much about being a reporter is that it gives me the satisfaction of speaking directly to people impacted by decisions. More so, I wager, than talking to the ones who make those decisions.

This is mainly because when people are upset, when people think they’ve been neglected or dismissed, it is often the fault of those in charge. If a group of people are upset, you can’t just tell them to stop being upset. They are upset for a reason. And their reasons need to be heard.

I am not specifically speaking about US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to

campus ... it’s about everything else. In fact, it’s mainly about everything else.

Mike Pompeo is merely a catalyst for the vote of no confidence against President Ricciardone. This vote has much less to do with Pompeo and a lot more to do with the simple fact that faculty are unhappy, and that something needs to be done about this.

I’ve been so invested in student politics whether it’s the camps, elections or the happenings of the Student Union, that I didn’t even realize how a majority of the faculty share very similar concerns with students about the administration.

The basis of the arguments may occasionally differ but the matter of the fact is that a huge majority of the current AUC community is unhappy with the administration.

Being that I too am a student at AUC, I share similar opinions. The same friends who bought me the recorder know very well what those opinions are, but for the sake of objectivity and journalistic impartiality, I often find myself holding back all my opinions. I’ve managed to stop myself from

clapping during both senate meetings when someone said points I agreed with on every single level.

Hello, Spring 2019! A Day that Lives On in Infamy: Port

Nadine Fahmy Managing English Editor Every start of a new semester holds new promises, dreams, and hopes for a brighter and more enlightening period in the long (or not so long, now it seems), uneasy journey of our college lives.

On the first day of this Spring semester, my friends and I, all graduating seniors, felt lighter and happier for an unknown reason.

As we laughed and talked with one another, we even mentioned we felt something different in the air that day.

I later realized it was the last first day of the semester. It was the last day that brought new hopes and dreams, at least within the walls of AUC, where these aspirations have been breeding for the past four years.

We will never be these people again.

Sure, the transition will be seamless. You don’t really notice when you go from one big thing to the next. I don’t even remember what my high school years, let alone days, were like.

And I have a feeling it will be the same with college in a few years. One era will erase what preceded it, but of course, the past lives on, and it is what will have taken me to that place, whatever it will be, where I will live out my future.

But now that I am here, in this time, in this place, with these people, I know that this is a time I at least want to remember.

I like who we are now; I like the endless possibilities and the constant room for hope.

Every month or so (if we’re lucky) we’re asked what we want to do after we graduate,

and as long as we still have time at AUC, our replies might change with every month.

But suddenly there won’t be as much time any more.

And people won’t be asking what will you do, but what do you do? I had never given thought to how heavy that question is, but to do - that means, the future is not as boundless as it is now.

I will be doing something which will define my future, my hopes, my dreams.

I will not be as preoccupied with what is to come as I am now - and now I realize, this is a privilege.

To have the luxury of planning and thinking over the possibilities of one’s future is truly a privilege. And I think graduates can correct me if I’m wrong - this will change when I’ve graduated.

Possibilities will not be my focus anymore, survival will. Maybe I’ll have fun surviving, maybe not.

But in the end, I think the time for hopes and dreams will run out soon, but I will continue to hope that it won’t - even against my better judgment.

I will make it my mission to continue to find possibilities and hopes even when I’m so old that I can’t remember any of these college days when I was chatting with my friends about our plans for the day, or the week, or for our entire lives.

I will make it my mission to remind myself and the people I love that every day should feel like that first day of the semester where the possibilities are endless and there’s a lightness in the air.

And to those whose college years are still beginning, I hope the air continues to be light even in those days where deadlines are suffocating you.

I hope you remember that nothing is as bad as it now seems, that it will all pass and the air will once again be as light as it is on a breezy, spring day in the gardens of AUC.

Said Massacre

Nadia Zein Politics Editor Seven years have passed since the Port Said Massacre.

Seven years have passed since 74 young men were brutally murdered; seven years have passed since young football fans were betrayed by the authorities at the time.

Seven years have passed and until this day, no one has been held accountable for the murders; justice has not yet been served.

February 1, 2012 is a day ingrained in the minds of all football fans and Egyptians. It was the day everyone realized how betrayal and cruelty can cut lives short.

It started with a group of young men who never missed a match for their club; they dedicated their lives to support Al Ahly, while singing chants that shook you down to your core.

“The day I stop cheering, I will be dead indeed,” never thinking for one second that some of them would actually die because of their support for the team.

It was no secret as to the activism of the Ultras Ahlawy before the January 25 uprising and their huge contributions during 2011, but never did we think that they would be targeted and massacred in a stadium.

This was like any other match and the fans traveled to Port Said with their players, boys and men from all ages and classes. A lot of us knew someone that was supposed to go or actually went, but not all of us were fortunate enough to have them come back.

I recall that day quite vividly as Al Ahly faced a humiliating defeat against Al Masry, 3-1, and as we watched the match, suddenly crowds of men were jumping on to the pitch as the match ended and the screens suddenly turned black.

Meanwhile, in the stadium the survivors tell the story of panic, as Al Ahly supporters were being attacked with knives, bats and anything that could possibly inflict pain.

The young men ran for their lives toward the exit gate only to find that it was locked and welded shut from the outside. With no one to turn to, the young men watched

as their friends were beaten to death or thrown from the top of the stands.

Some were frozen in place, paralyzed out of fear and helplessness, knowing that there’s nothing they could do to save their friends.

The lucky ones - if you can call them that - lived on to tell the story.

How lucky were they when some had to pretend to be dead just so they could avoid being killed, thinking that they were cowards when they were actually the furthest thing from it?

How lucky were they to live the rest of their lives with this vivid, brutal memory, knowing that they survived when others didn’t?

How lucky were they to attend 74 funerals of the comrades who stood alongside them once upon a time, having to face their mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters, telling them that their sons will not be coming home?

Seven years have passed and we have not forgotten them.

Seven years have passed and a hundred more years will pass but we will still be telling this story because their memories will live on through us for their families and friends.

Seven years have passed and the only comforting thought we have is that they have made it to heaven and are watching over us.

‫أعلــم أن هنــاك خطًــا رفي ًعــا بــن الصحفــي‬ ‫واملخــر‪ ،‬لكــن أي صحفــي لــه عالقــة كبــرة‬ ‫بالكشــف عــن يشء مــا‪ ،‬مهــا كان هــذا اليشء‪.‬‬ ‫ذلــك ليــس بعي ـ ًد ا عــن وظيفــة املخــر‪.‬‬ ‫وباعتبــار أننــي مراســلة للطالــب‪ ،‬فأنــا‬ ‫محظوظــة ألننــي غطيــت الكثــر مــن األحــداث‬ ‫السياســية يف الحــرم الجامعــي‪ ،‬ســواء كان‬ ‫عــى التعامــل مــع سياســات الطــاب أو‪ ،‬يف‬ ‫رأيــي الشــخيص املفضــل‪ ،‬يف انتخابــات اتحــاد‬ ‫الطــاب‪.‬‬ ‫هــذا بالتأكيــد ال يشء مقارنــة مبــا يغطيــه‬ ‫الصحفيــون خــارج الحــرم الجامعــي‪ ،‬لكــن عــى‬ ‫أي حــال‪ ،‬يــوم األحــد املايض‪ ،‬حــرت االجتامع‬ ‫العــام للمجلــس يف الجامعــة‪ .‬ويف يــوم الثالثــاء‪،‬‬ ‫حــرت اجتــاع مجلــس الشــيوخ الطــارئ‬ ‫الخــاص الــذي ضــم أعضــاء مجلــس الشــيوخ‬ ‫وأعضــاء اإلدارة‪.‬‬ ‫بعــد حضــوري كال االجتامعــن‪ ،‬ال يســعني‬ ‫برصاحــة إال أن أتســاءل عــا يحــدث خلــف‬ ‫األبــواب املغلقــة يف املبنــى اإلداري‪.‬‬ ‫أنــا أتســاءل يف الغالــب عــا يحــدث خلــف‬ ‫األبــواب املغلقــة لــكل مؤسســة‪ ،‬ألنــه يوجــد‬ ‫بالتأكيــد املزيــد وراء األجوبــة الدبلوماســية‬ ‫ألي ســؤال تطرحــه‪.‬‬ ‫جــزء مــا أحبــه كث ـ ًرا حــول كونــك مراسـ ًـا‬ ‫هــو أنــه يعطينــي الفرصــة للتحــدث مبــارشة‬ ‫مــع األشــخاص املتأثريــن بالقــرارات‪.‬‬ ‫أساســا إىل أنــه عندمــا‬ ‫ويرجــع ذلــك‬ ‫ً‬ ‫يشــعر النــاس باالنزعــاج‪ ،‬يظنــون أنــه قــد‬ ‫تــم إهاملهــم‪ ،‬فغالبًــا مــا يكــون ذلــك خطــأ‬ ‫املســؤولني‪ .‬فــا ميكنــك إخبارهــم بالتوقــف‬

‫دُعيــت أن أكتــب مقــال رأي للصحيفــة ولطاملــا‬ ‫انتظــرت تلــك اللحظــة ألغتنمها‪.‬لكــم أردت اتخــاذ‬ ‫ذلــك القـرار وكثـ ًرا مــا قمــت بتأجيلــه لكــن يبــدو‬ ‫أنــه قــد حــان اآلن وقــت تحقيقــه‪ .‬بحــاس طالب‬ ‫مــدريس يعــد خطــة ُمحكمــة وتصــو ًرا لرحلــة مــع‬ ‫أصدقائــه املقربــن‪ ،‬أمســكت بقلمــي ونظــرت‬ ‫إىل الورقــة البيضــاء أمامــي ورشعــت يف كتابــة‬ ‫مصطلحــات مختلفة بشــكل عشــوايئ حتى امتألت‬ ‫الصفحــة يف أمــل العثــور عــى فكــرة تكــون محــور‬ ‫املقــال الرأيــي األول يل وانغمســت يف أفــكاري‪.‬‬ ‫أفــكار مختلفــة ومتناثرة‪ .‬ســأكتب عــن االنتامء‪ ،‬بل‬ ‫الســفر‪..‬الحياة بعــد التخــرج‪ ،‬لكنــي ال أعــرف عنها‬ ‫شــيئًا حتــى أدونه‪..‬عــن العالقات الشــخصية‪..‬لكنها‬ ‫شــخصية وتختلــف مــن شــخص آلخر‪..‬ســأتحدث‬ ‫بعمــق‪ ،‬عــن الديــن واألخــاق واملجتمــع‪..‬أو رمبــا‬ ‫التمــرد عــى املجتمــع؟ ســأكتب مــن أعــاق‬ ‫تجــاريب الشــخصية‪..‬لكني أخــى اإلفصــاح عنهــا!‬ ‫عــن األفــام والروايات‪..‬الحياة واملوت‪..‬عن األســئلة‬ ‫الغــر مجــاب عنهــا‪ .‬اســتمريت يف رسد األفــكار‬ ‫والــرود بــن أفــكاري وقلمــي وصــوت أم كلثــوم‬ ‫الــذي يغــزو أذناي واعتدت أن ألجأ إليه ليســاعدين‬

‫عــن االنزعــاج‪ .‬هــم مســتاءون لســبب مــا‪.‬‬ ‫ويجــب أن تكــون أســبابهم مســموعة‪.‬‬ ‫أنــا ال أتحــدث تحديــ ًد ا عــن زيــارة وزيــر‬ ‫الخارجيــة األمريــي‪ ،‬مايــك بومبيــو‪ ،‬إىل الحــرم‬ ‫الجامعــي‪ .‬يف الواقــع‪ ،‬يتعلــق األمــر بــكل يشء‬ ‫آخــر‪.‬‬ ‫بومبيــو هــو مجــرد عامــل محفــز بتصويــت‬ ‫عــدم ثقــة ضــد رئيــس الجامعــة ريتشــاردوين‪.‬‬ ‫هــذا التصويــت ليــس لــه عالقــة بزيــارة بومبيو‬ ‫خصوصــا ولكــن لديــة عالقــة أكــر لعــدم رىض‬ ‫أعضــاء مجلــس شــيوخ األســاتذة‪ .‬وأنــه ال بــد‬ ‫مــن إيجــاد أرض مشــركة‪.‬‬ ‫اســتثمر الكثــر مــن وقتــي يف سياســات‬ ‫الطــاب ســواء كانــت انتخابــات اتحــاد‬ ‫الطــاب أو أحــداث اتحــاد الطــاب‪ ،‬لدرجــة‬ ‫أننــي مل أدرك أن غالبيــة األســاتذة يشــاركون‬ ‫اهتاممــات مامثلــة مــع الطــاب حــول اإلدارة‪.‬‬ ‫مبــا أننــي أيضــا طالبــة يف الجامعــة‪ ،‬لــدى‬ ‫آراء مامثلــة‪ .‬نفــس األصدقــاء الذيــن اشــروا‬ ‫يل املســجل يعرفــون جيــد ا ً مــا هــي هــذه‬ ‫اآلراء‪ ،‬ولكــن مــن أجــل املوضوعيــة والحياديــة‬ ‫الصحفيــة‪ ،‬غالب ـاً مــا أجــد نفــي أحجــم عــن‬ ‫كل آرايئ‪ .‬لقــد متكنــت مــن منــع نفــي مــن‬ ‫التصفيــق خــال اجتامعــات مجلــس الشــيوخ‬ ‫عندمــا قــال أحدهــم نقــاط أتفــق معهــا عــى‬ ‫كل مســتوى‪.‬‬ ‫مل أنتقــد مــا اختلــف معــه ألننــي يف وضــع‬ ‫الصحفــي الــذي عليــه نقــل الحقيقــة إىل‬ ‫القــارئ بحياديــة وموضوعيــة‪.‬‬

‫عــى االنســجام وبقيــت يف حــرة‪ .‬أفــكار متعــددة‬ ‫متداخلــة تطــارد بعضهــا البعض وتأمــل كل واحدة‬ ‫أن تســيطر عــى فكــري حتــى تكــون هــي الفكــرة‪.‬‬ ‫ثــم بــدأت أتفكــر يف هــذا الزمــن الــذي نحيــا فيــه‬ ‫ويجربنــا عــى التفكــر يف كل تلــك الجوانــب يف آن‬ ‫واحــد وبنفــس الفوضويــة‪ .‬يف يومنا هــذا‪ ،‬مطالبون‬ ‫نحــن ‪-‬يف أعامرنــا تلــك‪ -‬أن يكــون لدينــا وعــي‬ ‫باألحــداث السياســية الشــاغلة يف العــامل بأكملــه‬ ‫واالجتامعيــة التــي تؤثــر فينــا وعلينــا‪ .‬مجــرون أن‬ ‫نهتــم بعالقاتنــا الشــخصية مبســتوياتها املختلفــة‬ ‫بجانب بناء شــخصيات عاملة وهادفة لها مســتقبل‬ ‫مهنــي واضــح حتى قبل أن تتســلم شــهادة التخرج‪.‬‬ ‫شــاغلني أنفســنا بكيفيــة التأقلــم واالندمــاج مــع‬ ‫أشــياء متعــددة مــع الحفــاظ عــى الهويــة التــي‬ ‫أوجدناهــا ألنفســنا‪ُ .‬مهلــك ذلــك األمــر ومؤملــة‬ ‫تلــك العمليــة‪ .‬ينشــغل العقــل باألمــور املختلفــة‬ ‫ويرهــق النفــس معــه‪ .‬أرى ذلــك الـراع يف نفــوس‬ ‫كل أصدقــايئ ومــن حــويل‪ .‬أشــهدهم وهــم يف حرية‬ ‫فكريــة دامئــة مــن كــرة مــا يتعرضون لــه يف يومهم‬ ‫حتــى رصنــا جمي ًعــا يف فــوىض فكريــة عارمــة‪.‬‬ ‫لكنــي يف نهايــة األمــر توصلــت إىل نتيجــة أو رمبا‬ ‫توصلــت لحقيقــة وهــي أن جيلنــا يحيــا يف رصاع‬ ‫فكــري يجعــل خواطرنــا يف عبثية دامئة‪ .‬مشــغولون‬ ‫بالكثــر ويف قلــق دائــم مــا يجعــل التعبــر يف‬ ‫أغلــب الوقــت صعبًــا وتحديــد صلــب املوضــوع‬ ‫أو املشــكلة أمــ ًرا يف شــدة التعقيــد‪ .‬قــد تورطنــا‬ ‫فكــرة وقــد تقتلنــا األخــرى ونبقــى تائهــن يف بحــر‬ ‫عميــق مــن األفــكار املختلفــة ونحــاول جاهديــن‬ ‫ترتيــب فــوىض األفــكار تلــك‪ .‬هــو أمــر ليــس بهــن‬ ‫ومــع مــرور كل يــوم تزيــد يف خاطرنــا فكــرة تؤرقنا‬ ‫أكــر مــن الــايت مــررن ونظــل يف ذلــك ال ـراع‪.‬‬ ‫حتــى اآلن‪ ،‬ليــس مهـ ًـا أن نعــر عنهــا كلهــا وليــس‬ ‫بالــروري أن نجــد إجابــات لــكل األســئلة‪..‬يكفينا‬ ‫أن نتعــرض لتلــك األفــكار اآلن ودعونــا نعمــل عــى‬ ‫االســرخاء والبعــد عــن رصاعاتهــا املؤذية‪..‬أغنيــة‬ ‫لكوكــب الــرق وكــوب قهــوة ســاخن قــد يســاعد‬ ‫يف الوقــت الراهن‪..‬حتــى نتحرر مــن فوىض األفكار‪.‬‬

‫هــل ســبق وتخيلــت ردة فعلــك إن ُج ِســدَت‬ ‫املشــاعر واألحاســيس التــي تشــعر بهــا يف شــكل‬ ‫إنســان مثلــك متام ـاً؟‬ ‫ـت األشــياء الغــر ملموســة قابعــة‬ ‫طاملــا تخيلـ ُ‬ ‫يف شــكلٍ ُمجسـ ٍـد ولكننــي تغاضيــت عــن الفكــرة‬ ‫بســبب عــدم أهميتهــا‪..‬‬ ‫أو كــا ظننــت آنــذاك حتــى قابلنــي قبــل بضعــة‬ ‫أيــام عىل الفيســبوك منشــورا ً كتبه أحدهــم ُمتخيالً‬ ‫اللغــات املختلفــة إن تحولــت إىل أشــخاص‪َ ،‬مــن‬ ‫ســتكون؟ راق يل ذلــك بشــدة حتــى أخــذ املوضوع‬ ‫مجــرى آخــر معــي‪..‬‬ ‫كلــا داهمتنــي فكــرة أو شــعور حــاد أجــد أننــي‬ ‫أرســم ال إراديـاً خيوطـاً غري مرئيــة لِتُ َعـ ِـر عنه‪ ،‬مثل‬ ‫الغضــب‪ ،‬الصــر‪ ،‬واإللهام‪.‬‬ ‫أذكُــر أننــي يف وقـ ٍ‬ ‫ـت «الغضب» رجالً‬ ‫ـت ما تخيلـ ُ‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫يف عقــده الخامــس ينفــذ صــره يف وقــت قصــر‬ ‫جــدا ً‪ ،‬قــد يكــون أقل ِمــن الثانيــة وال يحتمــل أحدا ً‬ ‫عــى اإلطــاق‪ ..‬فيحمــر وجهــه ويتغــاىض عــن أيــة‬ ‫مشــاعر إنســانية داخلــه ويــرب بــكل يشء عرض‬ ‫الحائــط‪ ،‬ولكنــه بعــد لحظــات معــدودة يجلــس‬ ‫ـبي ويراجــع حســاباته ليجد أنه‬ ‫عــى كرســيه الخشـ ّ‬

‫يرتاجــع بعــض الــيء عــن كلــات أطلقهــا لســانه‬ ‫يف تلــك اللحظــة‪ ،‬وعــن األفعــال الغــر ســوية التي‬ ‫صــدرت ِمنــه دون وعــي‪.‬‬ ‫يف ُمخيلتــي‪ ،‬هــذا هــو «الغضــب» يف أبســط‬ ‫صــوره‪ ..‬وأتعجــب حينــا يفقــد أيـاً ِمنــا القــدرة‬ ‫يف الســيطرة عليــه‪ ،‬نرتكــه يتحكــم يف شــتى األمور‪،‬‬ ‫بــل ويهدمهــا ليصبــح ِمــن الصعــب إصالحهــا‪.‬‬ ‫أعلــ ُم جيــدا ُ أن الســيطرة عــى الغضــب أمــرا ً‬ ‫شــاقاً‪ ،‬وذلــك ببســاطة ألن صــري رسيــع النفــاذ‬ ‫ورسيعـاً مــا يحمــر وجهــي وينطلــق لســاين‪ ..‬مثيل‬ ‫مثــل «الغضــب»‪ .‬ولكننــي أدركــت مــع الوقــت أن‬ ‫جــم األخطــاء اإلنســانية تولــد يف لحظــة الغضــب‪،‬‬ ‫وهــي اللحظــة التــي قــد يغيب فيها عقل اإلنســان‬ ‫ويســيطر عليــه شــعورا ً واحــدا ً ال غــر‪.‬‬ ‫أمــا «الصــر»‪ ،‬تخيلتَـ ُه امرأة عجــوز ميتلئ وجهها‬ ‫بالحكمــة وت َُرســم عليــه التجاعيــد التــي تضفــي‬ ‫شــعورا ً بالحيــاة‪ ،‬ينحنــي ظهرهــا قليـاً وتســتخدم‬ ‫عصــا للســر‪..‬أتخيل الصــر امــرأة ألن النســاء يف‬ ‫مجتمعنــا هــن خــر مثــال عليــه‪ ،‬تتحمــل املــرأة‬ ‫مشــاق كثــرة قــد يصعــب عــى الرجــل تحملهــا‪،‬‬ ‫أو هــو فقــط لَــم يُخلَــق لتحملهــا‪..‬‬ ‫أرى ملع ـ ًة ِمــن عينيهــا تحــي الكثــر‪ ،‬وأســم ُع‬ ‫بحــة صوتهــا فيــري داخــي يقين ـاً بــأن الصــر‬ ‫يُعلِــم اإلنســان الكثــر‪ ،‬بــل إنــه خري معلــم‪ ..‬ألن يف‬ ‫ـت تنــال شــيئاً مثينـاً بعــد الصــر‬ ‫نهايــة املطــاف أنـ َ‬ ‫وتحظــى مبــا َحلُمــت بــه‪.‬‬ ‫ولكــن إن لَــم تحظــى مبــا متنيتــه‪ ،‬فإنـ َـك عــى‬ ‫األقــل تكــون قــد تلقيــت درسـاً ال يُقــدر بثمــن‪..‬‬ ‫أمــا «اإللهــام»‪ ،‬فلــم أســتطع حــره يف جســد‬ ‫معــن أو فئــة عمريــة معينــة‪ ،‬ولكننــي تخيلتــه‬ ‫شــخصاً ُمفعــم بالحيويــة ويتســم بالهــدوء الغــر‬ ‫ُمــرر يف بعــض األحيــان‪ ،‬تجده شــاردا ً بعض اليشء‬ ‫فتعلــم أنــه يف وا ٍد آخــر يبــث روحــه اإليجابيــة يف‬ ‫مــكانٍ مــا أو لشـ ٍ‬ ‫ـخص مــا‪..‬‬ ‫يــأيت اإللهــام يف إيجــاد فكــرة طاملــا بحثــت عنهــا‬ ‫ومل تجدهــا ولكنهــا أتــت يف بالــك مرة واحــدة ِمن‬ ‫الــا يشء‪ ،‬أو قــد تظنــه الــا يشء‪ ..‬ولكــن هــذا‬ ‫متام ـاً مــا يفعلــه‪ ،‬يبعــث روحــه يف أماكــن عــدة‬

‫ليســاعد ِمــن فقــد نفســه يف البحــث عنهــا وإيجــاد‬ ‫مــا يحييهــا ِمــن جديــد‪..‬‬ ‫قــد يُفاجئك اإللهــام لتجد أنك مازلت تســتطيع‪..‬‬ ‫مازلت تســتطيع رســم لِ َوحـاً فنية جديــدة‪ ..‬مازلت‬ ‫تســتطيع كتابــة أفــكار جديــدة‪ ..‬مازلــت ومــازال‬ ‫عقلــك يســتطيع املــي قدمـاً‪ ،‬بعــد أن ظننــت أنك‬ ‫لــن تســتطيع مــر ًة ثانيةً‪..‬‬ ‫الغضــب‪ ،‬الصــر‪ ،‬واإللهــام ُهــم صــورا ً ُمبســطة‬ ‫عــن املشــاعر التــي تغلُــب عــى اإلنســان‪ ،‬أمتنــى‬ ‫أحيانـاً لو اســتطعت الســيطرة عــى أغلبهــا وأحياناً‬ ‫أخــرى أمتنــى تركهــا لتفعــل مــا يحلــو لهــا وتأخــذ‬ ‫مجراهــا الطبيعــي‪.‬‬ ‫ولكــن يف كلتــا الحالتــن‪ ..‬أعلــم أن املشــاعر جزءا ً‬ ‫ال غنــى عنــه ِمــن هويتنــا‪ ،‬ال ميكننــا التخــي عنهــا‬ ‫واإلكتفــاء بالعقــل‪ ،‬ولكــن ميكننــا جعلهــا يس ـرا‬ ‫معـاً يف طريــقٍ واحـ ٍـد‪ ،‬و ِمــن أجــل غايــة واحــدة‪...‬‬

‫التعليــم‪ ،‬وأن بعــض اآلبــاء يلعبــون دو ًرا يف إبطــاء‬ ‫التقــدم التعليمــي يف مــر‪.‬‬ ‫ومع ذلك‪ ،‬شــارك شــوقي تفاؤله بشــأن مســتقبل‬ ‫التعليــم يف مــر وأثنــى عــى جهــود الجامعــة‬ ‫األمريكيــة وال ِفــرق املشــاركة منهــا‪.‬‬ ‫كان الفريــق الفائــز مــن املجموعــة وراء فكــرة‬ ‫املنصــة اإللكرتونيــة «مدرســتك»‪.‬‬ ‫تهــدف هــذه املنصــة املقدمــة مــن طــاب كليــة‬ ‫العلــوم والهندســة‪ ،‬نــور العــن طحــاوي ومــروان‬ ‫ســيد ويحيــى الكارمــا وآرس هنجــل‪ ،‬وطالــب كليــة‬ ‫إدارة األعــال محمــد عبــد الحميــد‪ ،‬إىل خدمة اآلباء‬ ‫واملعلمــن والطــاب‪.‬‬ ‫تقــوم املنصــة بذلك عن طريق الســاح للوالدين‬ ‫باملشــاركة بشــكل أكــر يف العمليــة التعليميــة‬ ‫ألطفالهــم مــن خــال اطالعهــم عــى نفــس املحتوى‬ ‫مثــل الطــاب‪.‬‬ ‫توفر «مدرســتك» التدريب واملساعدة للمدرسني‬ ‫بهــدف تحفيزهــم وتهــدف إىل تعزيــز التقــدم‬ ‫التعليمــي للطــاب مــن خــال التأكد مــن مواكبتهم‬ ‫ملوادهــم التعليميــة‪.‬‬ ‫عــى صعيــد آخــر‪ ،‬قــام الفريــق اآلخــر بابتــكار‬ ‫فكــرة «متيــز» عــى اإلنرتنت‪ ،‬والتي تهــدف إىل توفري‬ ‫مجموعــة متنوعــة مــن املي ـزات وخ ـرات التعلــم‬ ‫عاليــة الجــودة لتأهيــل املعلمــن بالكامــل خــال‬ ‫فــرة خمســة أشــهر‪.‬‬ ‫وأشــاد الوزيــر لــكال املجموعتــن عــى جهودهــم‬ ‫الرائعــة يف محاولــة تطويــر األفكار نحــو حل القضايا‬ ‫التعليميــة يف مرص‪.‬‬ ‫قالــت يــارا أحمد‪ ٬‬طالبــة بقســم إدارة تكنولوجيا‬ ‫االتصــاالت املعلوماتية‪« ٬‬كان الحــدث مفيدًا للغاية‪،‬‬ ‫وتعلمــت عــن الرصاعــات املختلفــة التــي يواجههــا‬ ‫نظــام مــر التعليمــي‪ .‬أعتقــد حقــا أن كال الفريقني‬ ‫قدّمــوا أفــكارا جيــدة قــد تحــل مشــكلة كبرية‪».‬‬

‫مــع أول كادر يبــدأ املخــرج يف وضــع تفاصيــل‬ ‫لشــخصيات الفيلــم ويظهــر خالــد الصــاوي يف دور‬ ‫يحيــى حســن التيجــاين وهــو نائــم عــي رسيــره‬ ‫محاطًــا ببعــض الكتــب‪ .‬ينتقل بعد ذلــك لرنى تغري‬ ‫يف موقــع التصويــر وهــو يف مقهــى الحريــة بوســط‬ ‫البلــد منتظ ـرا الحكــم يف القضايــا القامئــة ضــده‪٬‬‬ ‫ثــم ينحــر موقــع التصويــر يف منــزل دكتــور يحي‪.‬‬ ‫يعــد هــذا النــوع مــن األفــام نوعاً جديــدا ً عىل‬ ‫الســينام املرصيــة‪ ،‬فهــو أقــرب مــن فكــرة فيلمــي‬ ‫«‪ »12 Angry Men‬و»‪ »Perfect Strangers‬لكن‬ ‫هــل نجحنــا يف ذلــك النــوع أم ال؟! دعنــا نــري‪..‬‬ ‫تتمحــور قصــة فيلــم الضيــف حــول دكتــور‬ ‫يحيــي حســن التيجــاين (خالــد الصــاوي) وهــو عامل‬ ‫ومفكــر ولــه كتابــات أثــارت ضجــة كبــرة‪ ،‬متــزوج‬ ‫مــن ميمــي (شــرين رضــا) ومتثــل جميلــة عــوض‬ ‫دور ابنتهــم‪.‬‬ ‫نشــأت االبنــة يف أرسة وســطية متحــررة فكريًــا‬ ‫وتقــع يف غـرام شــخص يتبــن أنــه متطــرف دينيـاً‪،‬‬ ‫ويلعــب دوره أحمــد مالــك‪.‬‬ ‫تبــدو الرتكيبــة غنيــة للغايــة حتى تنتــج محتوى‬ ‫يــري املشــاهد‪ ،‬وباألخــص ألنــه فيلم حــواري قائم‬ ‫عــى النقــاش وقوة الحجــة واملنطق‪.‬‬ ‫يتقــدم مالــك لخطبــة عــوض ويُدعــا إىل العشــاء‬ ‫يف منــزل التيجــاين حــن يبدأ الجــدال والنقاش حول‬ ‫القضايــا التــي يريــد الكاتــب إثارتهــا كالحجــاب‬ ‫والحريــة والخالفــة اإلســامية ومــن هنــا يبــدأ‬ ‫الحــوار‪.‬‬ ‫ت ُعــر أحــد القواعــد الســينامئية ا الراســخة عــن‬ ‫أهميــة تقديــم الحكايــة للمشــاهد وعــدم االكتفاء‬ ‫بإخبــاره بهــا وهــي عبــارة «‪Show me, Dont tell‬‬ ‫‪ »me‬مبــا معنــاه أنــه عــى صانــع الفيلــم أال يعتمد‬ ‫كليـاً عــى الحوار الســيناميئ‪.‬‬ ‫تشــبه هــذه األفــام الحواريــة قطــع البــازل‬ ‫التــي تفــرض عــى املشــاهد تجميعهــا ِمــن خــال‬

‫معرض الكتاب يزهو يف شكله اجلديد‬

‫معرض الجامعة األمريكية يف معرض القاهرة الدويل للكتاب‬ ‫تقرير ‪ :‬ندي طارق راشد‬

‫احتفــالً باليوبيــل الذهبــي ملعــرض القاهــرة الــدويل‬ ‫للكتاب ومبناســبة مرور خمســن عا ًما عىل إنشــائه‪ ٬‬يشهد‬ ‫زواره هــذا العــام تغيـرات كثــرة عــن األعــوام الســابقة‪.‬‬ ‫تــم نقــل معرض الكتاب هذا العام مــن ارض املعارض يف‬ ‫مدينة نرص مركز املنارة للمؤمتارات يف التجمع الخامس‪.‬‬ ‫قالــت ابتهــال محمد‪ ٬‬محاســب تنفيــذي‪« ٬‬أحببت هذا‬ ‫التغيــر ولكنــه بعيــد… ليســت حقــا مشــكلة يل ولكنــه‬ ‫بعيـدًا للناس البســيطة‪».‬‬ ‫وأكملت محمد كالمها قائلة أن تغيري املكان ليس شــيئًا‬ ‫جيـدًا ألن معظــم النــاس كانــوا يعتمدون عــى املواصالت‬ ‫املتاحــة قربًــا من مدينــة نرص وأن التجمــع الخامس يعترب‬

‫بعيدًا ملعظــم الناس‪.‬‬ ‫قالــت محمــد أنهــا أيضـاً تعرتض عــى فكــرة الكافيهات‬ ‫التــي تقــدم شيشــة يف املعرض‪.‬‬ ‫وأضافــت محمــد أنها تخــرج من القاعــات مليئة بطاقة‬ ‫إيجابيــة للقـراءة وأنهــا حزنــت عندما رأت منظر الشيشــة‬ ‫وعــرت «لــكل مقــام مقال‪».‬‬ ‫ولكــن أوضحــت محمد أن التجربــة العامة كانت جيدة‬ ‫وأن فكــرة مجمــع األكل ليســت فكــرة ســيئة إن نفــذت‬ ‫بشــكل صحيح‪.‬‬ ‫وأعربــت عــن إعجابهــا أيضــا عــن التنظيــم الجيــد وأنها‬ ‫مل ت ُكــن تتوقــع أنــه ســيكون جيــدا ً بهذا الشــكل‪.‬‬ ‫وأضافــت محمــد‪« ٬‬فكــرة إنشــاء التطبيــق فكــرة جيدة‬

‫اســتنتاجاته وفضولــه أثنــاء مشــاهدة الفيلم‪ ،‬حتى‬ ‫يســتطيع تكويــن صــورة أوضــح عن الفيلــم وربط‬ ‫األحــداث ببعضهــا البعــض‪.‬‬ ‫فــإذا نظرنــا عىل فيلم «‪ »Angry Men 12‬نرى‬ ‫املتحاوريــن اســتطاعوا بتلقائيــه بالغــة رسد قصــة‬ ‫بوليســية كاملــة دون إذعــان شــخصية املحقــق‬ ‫او ماشــابه‪.‬‬ ‫كان هذا العنرص متواجدًا وبقوة يف الجزء األول‬ ‫ِمــن الفيلــم خاصـ ًة يف الجــزء الخــاص باللوحــات‬ ‫التــي ترســم شــخصية الصــاوي واملحاكمــة التــي‬ ‫يتعــرض لهــا البطل‪.‬‬ ‫ولكــن اتســم الجــزء الثــاين ِمــن الفيلــم بالرتابــة‬ ‫عــى عكــس الجــزء األول‪ ٬‬فــكان أشــبه بالربامــج‬ ‫الحواريــة الشــائعة عــى القنــوات الفضائيــة ففــي‬ ‫الفيلــم نضبــت الدرامــا وأصبح الحــوار أيديولوجيا‬ ‫بحتًــا وتباريًــا فكريًــا جافًــا بعــض الــيء‪ ،‬خاليــا‬ ‫مــن الدرامــا‪.‬‬ ‫اســتثني جــزء مــرض األم «رضــا» حيــث أنــه‬ ‫جــزءا ً دراميًــا بحتـاً‪ ،‬لكنه مل يؤثــر يف األحداث تأثريا ً‬ ‫قويـاً وبالتــايل فإنــه فاقــد لهــذا البعــد‪.‬‬ ‫يضــع انحصــار الفيلــم يف مــكان واحــد عــى‬ ‫عاتــق املخــرج تحديًــا ليــس هــن وقــد يكــون هــو‬ ‫التحــدي األصعــب عــى اإلطــاق وهــو قدرة رســم‬ ‫الشــخصيات بــدون وجــود ســندًا دراميًــا تاريخًيــا‬ ‫يف الفيلــم ميكننــا البنــاء عليــه وبذلــك الوســيلة‬ ‫الوحيــدة هــو عــن طريــق رســم بعــض التفاصيــل‬ ‫عــى الشــخصيات من خالل إضافة بعــض اللزمات‬ ‫والتعبريات الجســدية والوجهيــة‪ ،‬والتي لها القدرة‬ ‫عــي رســم شــكل الشــخصية يف عقــل املشــاهد‪.‬‬ ‫ولذلــك‪ ،‬أعتقــد أن هــذا هــو الســبب األســايس‬ ‫الــذي جعــل «هــادي الباجــوري» مخــرج العمــل‬ ‫يســتخدم كادرات قريبــة للغايــة حتــى يســتطيع‬ ‫أن يــرز تعب ـرات وجــه األبطــال‪ ،‬ولكنــه افتقــر‬ ‫نقاط ـاً أخــرى‪.‬‬ ‫ففــي فيلــم «‪ »Angry Men 12‬تســتطيع أن‬

‫لوصــول زوار املعــرض إىل وجهاتهــم باســتخدام خريطــة‪».‬‬ ‫وأكملــت أن تقســيم املعرض هذه الســنة مــن املميزات‬ ‫التــي يتميــز بهــا وأن دور العرض أيضــا ازدادوا عددا‪.‬‬ ‫مــن ضمــن هــؤالء دور العــرض جنــاح معــرض الجامعة‬ ‫األمريكية‪.‬‬ ‫قــال مدير معرض الجامعــة األمريكية يف معرض الكتاب‬ ‫ســامح املغــازي‪« ،‬تشــرك الجامعة كل عــام يف املعرض منذ‬ ‫ســنوات كثــرة‪ ...‬والحقيقــة أن هــذا العــام مــن أحســن‬ ‫املـرات التــي شــاركنا فيهــا فيوجــد مرافق ســهلة كثرية‪».‬‬ ‫وضــح املغــازي أن الجامعــة تشــارك يف معــرض القاهــرة‬ ‫الــدويل للكتاب منذ قديــم األزل‪ ،‬فكانت دار النرش حارضة‬ ‫يف املعــرض منــذ إقامتــه يف دار األوبـرا املرصيــة‪ ،‬ثــم أرض‬

‫املعــارض يف مدينــة نــر وأخـ ًرا أرض املعــارض الجديدة‪.‬‬ ‫قــال املغــازي‪« ،‬كل عــام قبــل شــهر ينايــر نتواصــل مــع‬ ‫الهيئــة املرصيــة للكتــاب التــي تتبــع وزارة الثقافــة لــي‬ ‫نســتفرس عــن موعــد فتــح بــاب الحجــز للمعــرض‪ ،‬ونبــدأ‬ ‫يف التجهيــز لالشـراك‪».‬‬ ‫تنظيم جيدًا هــذا العام‪،‬‬ ‫وقــال أيضــا أن املعــرض منظم‬ ‫ً‬ ‫وأن املســاحة التــي متتلكهــا الجامعــة األمريكيــة بالقاهرة‬ ‫أفضــل مــن أي مــرة اخرى‪.‬‬ ‫وأضــاف‪« ،‬يشــغل هذا العام معــرض الجامعة األمريكية‬ ‫‪ ١٦٢‬مـرًا وهــي أكــر مســاحة ميكــن أن يأخذهــا أي دار‬ ‫نرش‪».‬‬ ‫واتفــق معــه خريــج الجامعــة األمريكيــة عمــر وليــد‪،‬‬

‫تــدرك الشــخصيات املختلفــة مــن خــال مالمحــه‬ ‫وتعبرياتهــا الجســدية ووجههــا باالضافــة إيل الحوار‬ ‫القــوي بينهــم‪ ،‬بالرغــم من كرثة الشــخصيات والتي‬ ‫لــزم رســم لوحــة منفردة لــكل منهم‪ .‬أمــا يف فيلمنا‪،‬‬ ‫فــا نســتطيع أن نلتمــس الرســم للشــخصية إال من‬ ‫خــال الحــوار وعــرض منوذجهــا الفكــري‪ ،‬مــا أثــر‬ ‫عــى أداء املمثلــن املشــاركني حتــى عــي تعبـرات‬ ‫وجوههــم التــي ركــز عليهــا الباجــوري بشــدة‪.‬‬ ‫أري أن الســيناريو تقريبــا «متفصــل» عــى‬ ‫دور الصــاوي‪ ،‬فأخــذ املســاحة األكــر مقارنــ ًة‬ ‫بالشــخصيات األخــرى كزوجتــه وابنتــه والضيــف‬ ‫الــذي يعتــر املمثل األوحــد للرأي اآلخــر يف الفيلم‪.‬‬ ‫كان مــن الطبيعــي أن تكــون ملالــك مســاح ًة‬ ‫أكــر لعــرض حججــه بشــكل أوضح وأعمــق‪ ،‬وليس‬ ‫اظهــاره فقــط عــى أنــه الشــخص املتعصــب الفاقد‬ ‫ثباتــه االنفعــايل مــن بدايــة الفيلــم‪ ،‬فــإذا كان‬ ‫الغــرض هــو اظهــار والرتكيــز عــى الفكــر الــذي‬ ‫ميثلــه الصــاوي‪ ،‬إال أن بتقويــة الــرأي اآلخــر يكــون‬ ‫الحــوار اقــوي وحجتــه اقــوي‪.‬‬ ‫باإلضافــة إىل ذلــك‪ ،‬كان مــن املمكــن تســليط‬ ‫الضــوء عــى الشــخصيات األخرى كشــخصية ميمي‬ ‫لرضــا‪ ،‬حيــث أنــه كان هنــاك تفاصيــل مــن املمكن‬ ‫الرتكيــز عليــه وبلورتهــا للوصــول ألبعــاد أعمــق‬ ‫وأقــوى فبلــورة أفكارها كانت ســترثي الفيلم وذلك‬ ‫ألن لديهــا فكرهــا الخــاص املختلــف عــن زوجهــا‪.‬‬ ‫كان مــن املمكــن أن يكــون الفيلــم مرســوما عىل‬ ‫أنــه نقــاش بني هــؤالء الثالثة و املتلقيــة هي االبنة‪.‬‬ ‫تنقلــب أحــداث الفيلــم وتأخــذ مجــرى آخــر‬ ‫لتكــون النهايــة غــر متوقعــة وبعيــدة عــن مجــرى‬ ‫األحــداث الــذي بــدأ املشــاهد بــه‪.‬‬ ‫ومــع كل التقديــر لألســاء التي يحملهــا العمل‪،‬‬ ‫وللمنتــج الــذى تصــدى لهــذه النوعيــة مــن األفــام‬ ‫فــإن «الضيــف» أقــرب إىل حلقــة تليفزيونيــة أو‬ ‫مقالــة مليئــة باألفــكار الجديــرة باملناقشــة مــن أن‬ ‫يكــون فيلــم ســيناميئ‪.‬‬

‫«املعــرض منظــم ونظيــف وســهل الوصــول إيل مــا أريــد‪،‬‬ ‫ومــكان معــرض الجامعــة واســع وســهل التجــول فيــه‪».‬‬ ‫رشح املغــازي هيــكل معــرض الجامعــة األمريكيــة‪ ،‬فهو‬ ‫عــى شــكل مســتطيل مقســم نصفــن محــاط بالكتــب‬ ‫مــن األرفــف الخارجيــة والداخليــة‪ .‬يحتوي النصــف األول‬ ‫عــى كتــب أطفــال والكتــب التــي تســتوردها الجامعــة‬ ‫مــن الخــارج‪ ،‬ويحتــوي الثــاين عــى الكتــب املنشــورة مــن‬ ‫دار نــر الجامعــة‪.‬‬ ‫أشــار املغــازي إىل الكتب التــي تقدمها دار نرش الجامعة‬ ‫األمريكيــة قائــا‪« ،‬لدينا آالف الكتب املتنوعة‪ ...‬لدينا كتب‬ ‫جديــدة الطباعــة يف مجــاالت مختلفة مثل فنــون العامرة‪،‬‬ ‫علــوم اآلثار املرصية وكتــب لألطفال‪».‬‬ ‫قــال أحــد زوار معــرض الجامعــة األمريكيــة يف معــرض‬ ‫الكتــاب‪« :‬األســعار حقيقــي رائعــة ويوجــد كل مــا نريد‪».‬‬ ‫وأكــد هــذا الــكالم املغــازي قائــا أن األســعار تبــدأ مــن‬ ‫‪ ٣٠‬جــم وحتــى ‪ ٨٥٠‬ولكــن أكــد أنــه يوجــد تخفيضــات‬ ‫عــى جميــع أنــواع الكتــب‪ ،‬حتــى الكتــب جديــدة النــر‬ ‫يوجــد عليهــا ‪ ٪٢٠‬خصــم‪.‬‬ ‫وقــال أن األســعار ليســت فقــط مــا ميــزت معــرض‬ ‫الجامعــة األمريكيــة‪ ،‬بــل إنــه ُمتميــز بالــزوار الذيــن يأتــوا‬ ‫مــن جميــع أنحــاء العــامل‪.‬‬ ‫وقالــت الطالبــة يف كليــة اإلعــام يف الجامعــة األمريكية‬ ‫بالقاهــرة رحــاب شــلبي‪« ،‬أنا حقًا فخورة مبــا رأيته واإلقبال‬ ‫عــى معرضنا‪».‬‬ ‫ووضــح أيضــا املغــازي أن وجــود رجــال األمــن مــن‬ ‫الجامعــة االمريكيــة يســاعد يف تيســر عملية بيــع الكتب‬ ‫وحراســتها‪ ،‬وإرشــاد النــاس‪.‬‬ ‫أضــاف عــى ذلــك‪« :،‬هذه كانــت فكرة فريق التســويق‬ ‫لدينــا ليك منثــل الجامعة‪».‬‬ ‫وأراد املغــازي أن ينهــي اللقــاء معرتفــا بــأن أجمــل يشء‬ ‫عــن املعــرض هو روح املشــاركة بــن الفريق املكلف الذي‬ ‫يســاعدهم مــن إدارة املعــرض وبــن الفريــق امل َُرســل مــن‬ ‫الجامعــة‪ ،‬ورجــال األمــن لتيســر التجربة للمشــري‪.‬‬

‫دانيا عكاوي‬ ‫الثالــث عــر ِمن يناير يف بريد إلكرتوين إىل رئيس‬ ‫الجامعة فرانســيس ريتشاردوين‪ ،‬ترشح فيه أن‬ ‫تنظيم حدثاً كذلك دون استشــارة هيئة التدريس‬ ‫هــو أمرا ً غري مقبوالً‪.‬‬ ‫وأضافــت غزالــة يف هذا الربيد‪« ،‬ال أعتقد أين‬ ‫الشــخص الوحيد الذي تفاجئ بأن بومبيو يلقي‬ ‫خطاباً يف الجامعة‪ ،‬هل أُستشــار أياً ِمن أفراد‬ ‫مجتمع الجامعة األمريكية إن كانت اســتضافة‬ ‫مدير ســابق لوكالة املخابرات املركزية يف الجامعة‬ ‫األمريكيــة فكرة جيدة أم ال؟»‬ ‫بالرغــم ِمــن أن وقوف بومبيو عىل منرب‬ ‫الجامعة والتحدث ِمن خالله كان الســبب‬ ‫الرئييس وراء املناقشــة الحادة‪ ،‬ولكن الحظ‬ ‫العديــد ِمــن أعضاء هيئة التدريس أن األمر‬ ‫يتعلق بالحوكمة املشــركة‪.‬‬ ‫قال ريتشــاردوين‪« ،‬أعل ُم أن املشكلة ليست‬ ‫بشــأن التعليق عىل الخطاب أو عىل الخطاب‬ ‫نفســه‪ ،‬بل أُطر َحت نقط أخرى عدة ُهنا‪»..‬‬ ‫باإلضافة إىل تصويت عدم الثقة‪ ،‬قام األســتاذ‬ ‫عيل هادي‪ ،‬رئيس قســم الرياضيات والعلوم‬ ‫االكتواريــة‪ ،‬بتقديــم تصويتاً بعنوان «حالً للميض‬

‫قدمــا» (‪..)Resolution of the Way Forward‬‬ ‫وقام ‪ِ ٪٨٣‬من مجلس الشــيوخ بالتصويت عىل‬ ‫ذلك‪..‬‬ ‫ُعتب هذه الحركة‪ ،‬باإلضافة إىل أشــياء أخرى‪،‬‬ ‫ت َ‬ ‫دافع لتأســيس طريقة تواصل مناســبة بني مجلس‬ ‫الشيوخ ومجلس األمناء‪.‬‬ ‫وتتضمن أيضاً مطلباً أساســياً‪ ،‬وهو ّأل ت ُطبَق‬ ‫أية سياســيات يف الجامعة دون موافقة مجلس‬ ‫الشيوخ‪.‬‬ ‫قال ريتشــاردوين‪« ،‬أرى أن مجلس الشيوخ‬ ‫ُي ِثل عامالً مهامً جدا ً ِمن الحوكمة املشــركة‬ ‫لهــذه الجامعــة‪ .‬وأنا أُؤكِد عىل أهمية اتحادنا مع‬ ‫مجلس الشــيوخ واإلدارة لتأســيس طريقة تواصل‬ ‫ب ّناءة للمشــورة حول القضايا التي تهم املجتمع‪».‬‬ ‫وأضاف أن قوانــن الجامعة األمريكية تخضع‬ ‫إىل مجلس الشــيوخ ِمن أجل املراجعة والنصيحة‪.‬‬ ‫ورشح نظرتــه ورأيــه يف زيارة بومبيو قائالً‪،‬‬ ‫«أمتلــك وجهة نظــر مختلفة‪ ،‬وأنا مقتنع أن هذا‬ ‫الحــدث قام بتأكيــد مكانتَنا العاملية‪ ..‬أثرت هذه‬ ‫الزيارة بااليجاب خاصة عىل األشــخاص خارج‬ ‫مــر الذيــن لديهم وجهة نظر خاطئة عن األمن‬

‫واألمان يف مــر‪ .‬فمرص والجامعة األمريكية‬ ‫بالقاهــرة هــا مبثابة مأمن ومكاناً ُم ِ‬ ‫رحب‬ ‫بالجميع‪».‬‬ ‫عربت غزالة أثناء اجتامع مجلس الشــيوخ‪،‬‬ ‫وجهة نظر مشــابهة لهذه النقطة التي رشحها‬ ‫ريتشــاردوين‪ ،‬فوضحت أن األمر ال يتعلق بزيارة‬ ‫بومبيــو بالتحديــد‪ ،‬ولكن الطريقة التي تم‬ ‫الحدث بها هي ما أدى إىل هذه املشــكلة‪.‬‬ ‫شــارك العديد ِمن أعضاء هيئة التدريس نفس‬ ‫وجهــة النظــر‪ِ ،‬مام أدى إىل اتفاقهم عىل تصويت‬ ‫عــدم الثقة يف اإلدارة الحالية‪.‬‬ ‫إحدى املشــكالت التي تهم أعضاء هيئة‬ ‫التدريــس هي حدوث العديد ِمن االجتامعات‬ ‫التي ال تُشـكِّل فرقاً أو ت ِ‬ ‫ُعب عن القضايا التي‬ ‫تهمهم‪.‬‬ ‫عرب محمد ف ّراج‪ ،‬أســتاذ الهندســة امليكانيكية‪،‬‬ ‫عن قلقه بســبب تجاهل هيئة التدريس عىل‬ ‫الرغــم ِمــن أنها عضوا ً ف ّعاالً يف الجامعة‪ .‬وأضاف‪،‬‬ ‫«قامــت اللجنــة التنفيذية بعمل اجتامع لبضع‬ ‫ســاعات مع الرئيس والعميد‪ ،‬ولكن مل يُســتفاد‬ ‫منهــا‪ .‬أرى أننــا نُف ِكر يف دوائر ُمف َرغة ولكن ال‬ ‫نصل لشيئاً مفيدا ً‪».‬‬ ‫كرر عمرو شــعراوى‪ ،‬عميد مجلس شيوخ‬ ‫الجامعــة األمريكيــة‪ ،‬تعبريه عن هدف وفائدة‬ ‫مجلس الشــيوخ‪ ..‬حيث أنه ُمصمم حتى يُســت َمع‬ ‫إىل هيئة التدريس‪« ،‬وحتى نكتشــف نوع‬ ‫الشــكاوى لدى هيئة التدريس‪».‬‬ ‫ولكن‪ ،‬محور الكالم يف اجتامع مجلس الشــيوخ‬ ‫كان معــرا عــن عدم رضا أعضاء هيئة التدريس‬ ‫حــول ما يــرون ِمن طريقة تعامل اإلدارة معهم‪..‬‬ ‫باإلضافــة إىل ذلــك‪ ،‬حرض الطالب محمد ثروت‪،‬‬ ‫وهو ممثل الطلبة‪ ،‬والطالب ســعيد زكريا‪ ،‬رئيس‬ ‫اتحــاد الطالب‪ ،‬االجتامع الخاص الثاين ملجلس‬ ‫الشيوخ‪.‬‬ ‫وقــد قام الطــاب بالفعل بنرش آرائهم املختلفة‬ ‫عىل شــبكات التواصل االجتامعي‪.‬‬ ‫قالت األســتاذة دينا بُرعي‪ ،‬نائبة رئيس الجامعة‬ ‫للحيــاة الطالبيــة‪ ،‬أنها تعمل مع فريقها عىل‬ ‫تحســن حياة الطالب يف الجامعة‪.‬‬

‫طأمن الرئيس األكادميي بالجامعة األمريكية يف‬ ‫القاهرة‪ ،‬إيهاب عبد الرحمن‪ ،‬الطالب الفلسطينيني‬ ‫بأن مستقبلهم يف الجامعة األمريكية لن يتغري‪،‬‬ ‫وذلك بعد أن أُ ِ‬ ‫بطل متويل منحة برنامج «قائدي‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫الغد» ‪ Tomorrow›s leaders‬للطالب من قطاع‬ ‫غزة والضفة الغربية‪.‬‬ ‫وفقاً ملوقع الجامعة األمريكية‪ ،‬يقدم هذا الربنامج‬ ‫يتحل‬ ‫فرصاً تعليمية كثرية للشباب الطموح الذي ّ‬ ‫بروح قيادية‪ ،‬وذلك ِمن دو ٍل مختلفة يف الوطن‬ ‫العريب‪ .‬وتُ َول هذه املنحة ِمن ِقبَل قسم مبادرة‬ ‫رشاكة والية الرشق األوسط للواليات املتحدة‬ ‫األمريكية ‪.MEPI‬‬ ‫رشحت ريم خرض‪ ،‬منظم الربنامج‪ ،‬أن وقف‬ ‫متويل الطالب الفلسطينيني حدث بعد قبول‬ ‫الكونجرس األمرييك لحركة ضد اإلرهاب يف أكتوبر‬ ‫عام ‪ .2018‬وبعد ذلك‪ ،‬أُعلِ َم املكتب بهذا القرار‬ ‫وأوقف التمويل يف الرابع ِمن يناير لهذا العام‪.‬‬ ‫قالت ملى علول‪ ،‬طالبة فلسطينية يف العام الرابع‬ ‫وكانت سابقاً ِمن ضمن «قائدي الغد»‪ِ « ،‬من‬ ‫الواضح أنهم كانوا يف انتظار عودتنا ِمن أجازة‬

‫االستفادة ِمن نفس الفرص التي كانوا يحظون بها‬ ‫نصف العام حتى يخربونا رسمياً بالذي سوف‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫سابقا حينام كانوا جزءا من الربنامج‪.‬‬ ‫يحدث‪».‬‬ ‫عىل الرغم ِمن أن الفئة املتأثرة بهذا القرار صغرية‬ ‫رشحت خرض أن الطالب الالئقني للتقديم عىل‬ ‫‪،‬لكن خلق هذا القرار شيئاً ِمن الخوف والقلق‬ ‫هذا الربنامج هم طالب منطقة الرشق األوسط‬ ‫وشامل أفريقيا‪ ،‬ولكن بالرغم ِمن ذلك فإنهم أُعلَموا لطالب الدول األخرى ِمن هذا الربنامج‪.‬‬ ‫أن الطالب الذين يحملون الجنسية الفلسطينية لن قالت علول‪« ،‬أصدقايئ املنضمون إىل هذا الربنامج‬ ‫يكونوا جزءا ً ِمن هذا الربنامج بدءا ً ِمن شهر يناير‪ .‬عربوا عن خوفهم وعدم شعورهم باألمان وذلك ألن‬ ‫رصح الدكتور عبد الرحمن يف خطاب إلكرتوين هذا القرار قد يقع عليهم يف أي لحظة‪».‬‬ ‫أضافت علول‪« ،‬نحن جئنا إىل هنا ِمن أجل منحة‬ ‫لجميع الطالب أن الطالب الفلسطينيني لهذا‬ ‫الربنامج مازال بإمكانهم تسجيل جميع موادهم دراسية مدتها أربعة أعوام كاملة‪ ،‬ولكن الذي‬ ‫الدراسية حتى التخرج‪ ،‬بل ومازال أيضاً بإمكانهم حدث يُعد شيئاً غري متوقَع باملرة‪ ..‬لقد ُص ِدمنا‪».‬‬

‫الغد»‪ ،‬وكانت تُعرِف نفسها بذلك‪ .‬وأشارت إىل‬ ‫أشارت خرض إىل قلقها عىل السالمة النفسية‬ ‫لطالب هذا الربنامج وقالت‪« ،‬بالنسبة إىل نفسيتهم‪ ،‬ذلك بأنه كان يجعلها فخورة إلن تنضم لذلك‬ ‫فهم بالتأكيد قلقني للغاية وينتابهم شعورا ً‬ ‫الربنامج‪ .‬وأضافت‪« ،‬لكن لألسف‪ ،‬بالنسبة إلينا؛‬ ‫أي الفلسطينيون‪ ،‬ال ميكننا أن نُعرف أنفسنا كأحد‬ ‫بأن ما حدث غري عادالً بالنسبة إىل أصدقائهم‬ ‫أعضاء الربنامج‪».‬‬ ‫الفلسطينيني‪».‬‬ ‫أضافت خرض أن مبا إن األمر حدث للفلسطينيني‪ ،‬ولكن رشحت علول أن كلامت د‪.‬عبد الرحمن‬ ‫طأمنتها وأنها ممتنة ملا قاله‪ ..‬وقالت‪« ،‬طأمننا‬ ‫ميكن أن يحدث ألية جنسية أخرى‪ ..‬فكلهم‬ ‫د‪.‬عبد الرحمن أال نقلق بشأن املاديات وقال لنا أننا‬ ‫محبطني للغاية‪.‬‬ ‫باإلضافة إىل ذلك‪ ،‬كان هذا الربنامج جزءا ً مهامً طالب الجامعة األمريكية وسنظل كذلك‪».‬‬ ‫ِمن هوية الطالب‪ ،‬ولكنهم فقدوه فجأة‪.‬‬ ‫قالت علول أنها كانت تعترب نفسها «قائدة‬
