This play is based on Charles Dickens’ famous short novel A Christmas Carol from 1847. The main character is the rich and greedy Ebenezer Scrooge. He does not believe in helping others. Scrooge believes every man is responsible for himself. He never gives gifts to anyone, not even to the poor and sick. He pays his clerk, Bob Cratchit, poorly, even though Cratchit has a family to support and a son who is very ill. Jacob Marley was Scrooge’s business partner for many years. Marley died years ago, but this Christmas Eve, his ghost visits Scrooge.
