Position Summary:
The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks an innovative and collaborative Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher with a growth mindset to join our team of international educators The teacher will design student-centered learning experiences that integrate Language Arts and Social Studies through inquiry, critical thinking, and creativity. The educator will foster literacy, communication, and collaboration skills while supporting students’ social-emotional and ethical development.
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Teaching and Learning:
● Deliver engaging instruction in Language Arts and Social Studies, fostering inquiry-based and conceptual learning
● Design learning experiences that develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and digital literacy skills
● Use a range of strategies to scaffold learning, encouraging independence, creativity, and critical thinking
● Teach through a culturally responsive lens, valuing diverse perspectives, histories, and voices.
● Expose students to a variety of literary genres, global issues, and interdisciplinary themes that connect past and present contexts
● Integrate digital tools to enhance research, collaboration, and communication
● Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, guide instruction, and provide meaningful feedback
● Tailor teaching to students’ developmental, cognitive, and social-emotional needs, promoting agency and ownership of learning.
● Integrate technology and digital tools purposefully to enhance engagement, reflection, collaboration, and digital literacy
Curriculum and Planning:
● Design authentic, relevant units that connect learning to real-world issues and promote student voice, choice, and action
● Align curriculum with ASB frameworks, IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) principles, and C3 standards for Social Studies.
● Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment

● Document units, assessments, and resources using school-supported platforms
● Incorporate opportunities for cross-disciplinary connections and interdisciplinary projects
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:
● Actively engage in continuous professional learning, coaching, and reflection within ASB’s coaching-based culture, modeling professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
● Collaborate with colleagues to design instruction, share strategies, and enhance student learning outcomes
● Participate actively in departmental, divisional, and school-wide meetings to support ASB’s mission and goals
● Contribute to a collegial culture that values reflective practice, innovation, and continuous improvement
● Document curriculum and resources using shared collaborative tools in school-approved platforms
Student Wellbeing:
● Lead a grade-level advisory group that supports students’ social-emotional well-being and growth.
● Build strong relationships with students and families to foster belonging and shared responsibility for learning
● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, breaks, and lunch, maintaining a safe and caring environment
● Support students’ social-emotional wellbeing and foster a caring, inclusive environment
● Chaperone students on experiential learning trips, including ASB’s Week Without Walls, to promote responsibility and global connection
● Lead or support co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and community engagement.
Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:
● A Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and a valid teaching certification.
● A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience in a K-12 accredited school
● Expertise in Language Arts, Social Studies, or Humanities instruction
● Understanding of adolescent development and the ability to build authentic relationships with students
● Experience with inquiry-based learning and integration across disciplines
