Position Summary:
The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks a Middle and High School Physical Education and Health Teacher to deliver a standards-based program aligned with SHAPE America and the International Baccalaureate Physical and Health Education frameworks The teacher will promote physical literacy, fitness, well-being, and positive social behaviors through developmentally appropriate instruction Responsibilities include teaching swimming, promoting safe participation in physical activity, and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Teaching and Learning:
● Deliver PE and Health instruction aligned with SHAPE standards and program objectives
● Design engaging, inquiry-based units that develop motor skills, fitness, teamwork, and responsible decision-making
● Integrate personal wellness topics, including nutrition, mental health, human development, and safety education
● Differentiate instruction to meet the varied abilities and developmental needs of students
● Use assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction
● Teach swimming and water safety across a range of skill levels
● Incorporate technology and movement-analysis tools to support learning and reflection
Curriculum and Planning:
● Develop standards-aligned units using school-supported planning tools and resources
● Monitor and document student learning using skill assessments and reflective tasks to ensure growth and progress
● Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grades
● Contribute to the development of PE, Health, and wellness initiatives
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:
● Participate in professional learning, coaching, and reflection
● Engage in divisional and schoolwide meetings and initiatives

● Collaborate with counselors, learning support teams, and teachers to support student well-being
● Model professionalism, reliability, and ethical conduct
Learning Environment and Community Engagement:
● Maintain safe, inclusive, and well-organized learning spaces, including gyms, fields, fitness rooms, and the pool.
● Implement safety procedures and risk-management practices for all activities.
● Build positive relationships with students and families.
● Support school events, lead athletics activities and coach sports and experiential learning programs.
Student Well-being:
● Support students’ social-emotional development through advisory or homeroom responsibilities.
● Supervise students during transitions, breaks, and lunch
● Chaperone students on experiential learning trips
● Contribute to co-curricular and after-school activities
Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:
● Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Sports Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
● Valid teaching certification preferred.
● Minimum three years of relevant K–12 teaching experience.
● Experience teaching swimming or aquatic instruction preferred.
● Familiarity with SHAPE standards and/or IBP Physical and Health Education.
