Position Summary:
The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks an innovative and collaborative Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our international learning community The teacher will design engaging, student-centered learning experiences that foster the development of strong reading, writing, speaking, listening, and digital literacy skills Using inquiry-based, culturally responsive instruction, the teacher will promote critical thinking, communication, and creativity while supporting the social-emotional development of young adolescents.
Your Responsibilities at ASB:
Teaching and Learning:
● Deliver engaging, inquiry-based ELA instruction that builds conceptual understanding and literacy skills
● Design learning experiences that develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and digital literacy
● Use strategies to scaffold learning, promoting independence, creativity, and critical thinking
● Teach through a culturally responsive lens, valuing diverse perspectives, voices, and identities
● Expose students to a wide range of texts genres, authors, and global perspectives
● Integrate digital tools purposefully to enhance research, collaboration, communication, and reflection.
● Utilize formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and offer targeted feedback.
● Tailor teaching to students' developmental and social-emotional needs, encouraging agency and ownership of learning.
Curriculum and Planning:
● Design authentic, standards-aligned units that connect learning to real-world issues and promote student voice, choice, and action.
● Align curriculum with ASB frameworks and AERO standards.
● Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels and disciplines
● Document units, assessments, and learning resources using school-approved platforms

● Incorporate opportunities for interdisciplinary connections
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:
● Engage in continuous professional learning, coaching, and reflective practice within ASB's collaborative culture.
● Contribute actively to team, divisional, and school-wide meetings.
● Collaborate with colleagues to improve instruction, analyze student learning, and align shared expectations.
● Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
Student
Wellbeing:
● Lead a grade-level advisory group that supports students’ social-emotional well-being and growth
● Build strong relationships with students and families to foster belonging and shared responsibility for learning.
● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, breaks, and lunch, maintaining a safe and caring environment
● Support students’ social-emotional wellbeing and foster a caring, inclusive environment
● Chaperone students on experiential learning trips, including ASB’s Week Without Walls, to promote responsibility and global connection.
● Lead or support co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and community engagement
Who We’re Looking For?
The ideal candidate will bring:
● Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a valid teaching certification
● Minimum of three years of relevant ELA teaching experience in a K–12 accredited school
● Expertise in literacy instruction and adolescent literacy development
● Understanding of adolescent development
● Experience with inquiry-based learning and integration across disciplines.
