Position Summary:

The American School of Bombay (ASB) seeks a collaborative and student-centered Elementary School Physical Education Teacher to deliver an engaging, developmentally appropriate program aligned with SHAPE America Standards and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) The teacher will promote physical literacy, fundamental motor skills, fitness, cooperation, and healthy habits The role involves teaching swimming, promoting safe participation in physical activity, and supporting the social-emotional development of students.

Your Responsibilities at ASB:

Teaching and Learning:

● Deliver PE instruction aligned with SHAPE America standards and the PYP framework, emphasizing physical literacy, well-being, and whole-child development

● Design transdisciplinary learning experiences that develop motor skills, fitness, coordination, teamwork, and responsible decision-making

● Embed social-emotional learning through IB Learner Profile attributes and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills

● Differentiate instruction to meet varied developmental needs and provide supportive practice.

● Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and inform instructional strategies.

● Teach swimming and water safety to a range of skill levels, adhering to established safety protocols

● Integrate age-appropriate technology and movement-analysis tools to support feedback and reflection

Curriculum and Planning:

● Design authentic learning units aligned with ASB’s PYP framework and learning outcomes

● Collaborate with grade-level and specialist teams to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.

● Document units and learning evidence using school-supported platforms

● Monitor and document student growth through skill assessments, reflections, and fitness observations

● Contribute to schoolwide wellness initiatives

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities:

● Actively Engage in continuous professional learning, coaching, and reflection within ASB’s coaching-based culture, modeling professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.

● Collaborate with colleagues to analyze data, share strategies, and ensure holistic student support

● Participate actively in divisional, team, and school-wide meetings to advance ASB’s mission and goals

Learning Environment and Community Engagement:

● Maintain safe, inclusive, and well-organized learning spaces

● Utilize positive behavior supports, such as the Responsive Classroom approach, to foster respect and responsibility.

● Apply safety and risk-management protocols for all physical activities.

● Build strong partnerships with families to support student growth and wellbeing

● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, lunch, and recess, nurturing social learning beyond the classroom

● Lead sports activities and coach school-wide sports

Assessment and Communication:

● Monitor and document student growth through varied assessments, portfolios, and goal-setting.

● Provide timely and constructive feedback that guides improvement and celebrates achievements

● Communicate regularly with families through conferences, report cards, and informal updates to keep them informed and engaged

Student Well-being:

● Supervise and engage with students during transitions, breaks, and lunch to maintain a safe, caring, and respectful environment

● Support students’ social-emotional wellbeing and foster a caring, inclusive environment

● Lead or support co-curricular activities that enhance student learning and community engagement.

Who We’re Looking For? The ideal candidate will bring:

● Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related field.

● Valid teaching certification preferred

● Minimum three years of relevant K–12 teaching experience

● Experience teaching swimming or aquatic instruction preferred

● Familiarity with SHAPE America standards and PYP philosophy
