MODULE 1 ( WEEK 1 TO WEEK 4) June 21, 2013

MODULE 1 (WEEK 1 TO WEEK 4) / FROM 21st JUNE

Preface for Teachers (Read and Understand what each child means to you and your role in School for every child) Whose Child Is This? (A Poem by JGR) 'Whose child is this?' I asked one day seeing a little one out at play. 'Mine', said the parent with a tender smile 'Mine to keep a little while. To bathe his/her hands and comb his/her hair, To tell him/her what he/she is to wear, To prepare him/her that he/she may always be good, And each day do the things he/she should'. 'Whose child is this?' I asked again, As the door opened and someone came in. 'Mine', said the teacher with the same tender smile. 'Mine, to keep just for a little while. To teach him/her how to be gentle and kind, To train and direct his/her dear little mind, To help him/her live by every routine, And get the best he/she can from school'. Whose child is this?' I asked once more, Just as the little one entered the door. 'Ours’ said the parent and the teacher as they smiled. And each took the hand of the little child. 'Ours to love and teach together and forever’!

MODULE 1 (WEEK 1 TO WEEK 4) / FROM 21st JUNE

• Gross Motor Activities for N1, N2 shall be conducted as part of Play A Way Program. • N1, N2 Teachers shall conduct the 2nd period of Play A Way during the week. Creating Routines A Teacher needs to carefully consider the routines she will need. A Classroom teacher needs to ask: · How will the children enter the room? · Where will they place their bags? Their homework books/notebooks? · Who will take the attendance? · How will they be seated for lunch? · What does a child do when his or her work is completed? · How does a child record his or her independent reading? (Library Program) - Who is responsible to collect all Activity Books? - Who will ensure the class is cleaned up after every activity? - Who records homework?

Though it is the Class Teacher who has the entire responsibility of her class, it is suggested that she assign each of this to children in her class so that the children get involved in everything that happens in their environment. Usually children are found to be very eager and enthusiastic in helping around such routines.

A Program/Activity room teacher will need to ask: · · ·

How will the children get from their general classroom to the program room? How will the children know when it is time to move from their desk to the teacher's table? What role will a classroom aide (notices and props) play in the structure of the classroom?

These and many other questions should have an answer. Administrator to ensure that answers to these questions are available with every teacher. Children will need a great deal of structure in their day. As a teacher, it is always best to have daily routines and structure. Class Policies: There is still a place for Policies & Procedures in Class. Keep them simple, keep them few. One Policy should be "Treat yourself and others with respect." Limit your Policies to 15 at the most. Make a list of Class Policies and have it approved by Educators at Foundation.

MODULE 1 (WEEK 1 TO WEEK 4) / FROM 21st JUNE

Be sure to decide who is responsible for which "policy & procedure."

Use of Songs in as many situations as possible is extremely good for the children. Any activity could be done using songs as a medium. In the Lesson Plans that follow, you will find that Songs have been given for various activities. Please sing the songs for the prescribed routine/activity every time you are at it.

Visuals provided in the lesson plans may be referred to for each activity; The craft and creative arts must be atleast to minimum standards prescribed. Visuals provided here are the minimum standards expected of Arts & Crafts.

Sing, Sing, Sing along So everyone can hear. Time for us to sit around Coz Circle Time is here! If your class is having difficulty sitting still, try adding activities that include movement. Place these activities before something that you want them to be able to sit still and focus on. For example, have the children stretch or do morning exercises before story time. Here are some other ideas for including movement in your circle time activities: •

Sing songs or use rhymes that have hand motions or movements. Have children clap their hands or jump out a specified number rather than having them simply respond to a flashcard. Instead of having children shout out a color they see on a flashcard, have the children take turns finding something that is the correct color around your classroom to show their friends.

Group Activity Song: (Please make it a practice for children to follow you, do the actions and settle down for Group Activities) Tune : “If You’re Happy And You Know It” If you’re happy and you know it – follow me If you’re jumping and you know it – follow me
