HOW TO BUILD YOUR PROGRAM OF WORK
We suggest the following procedure for beginning a new Farm Bureau program year: 1.
Plan the year's agenda at the beginning of the year and give a copy to every committee member and prospective member.
2.
Survey the committee’s interests and talents (ag education; Ag in the Classroom, etc.; Issues…county, state, national, etc.; Informative…drunk driving, stress, etc.)
3.
Emphasize education and participation in Farm Bureau programs and contests.
4.
Invite all Farm Bureau members under 35 to join the group. Don't stop with committee, but don’t ignore them, either.
5.
Work with other organizations. Allow their members to become familiar with your committee. Learn from them.
6.
Provide personal recognition. Send thank-you notes after every accomplishment.
7.
Combine a meeting with committees from other counties once or twice a year.
8.
Start and finish meetings on time.
9.
PUBLICITY: One or two things a year are not enough. Publicize OFTEN. With enough publicity, your committee will build a solid reputation of pursuing worthwhile activities and others will want to be involved. This won't happen overnight, but there is no time like the present to begin!
