Ways to Keep Your Employees Motivated and Happy at Work Do your employees enjoy their work environment? This is a question every good manager or business owner should ask periodically. A happy worker is more productive and more likely to stay put; low company morale and turnover hurt the overall success of any business. Moreover, it’s never been easier for people to job hunt. Employment web sites and social media networks provide workers with an almost endless list of new jobs and opportunities, not to mention recruitment firms and headhunters. To keep a happy workforce, it’s important for employers to offer effective incentives to their people. Consider these ideas. Be creative, but not kooky or conceited. It’s great to think of creative ways to motivate workers, such keeping an office pet to make the workplace more fun, or organizing office games like voting on the Super Bowl winner. However, employees can spot gimmicks or incentives they know aren’t worthwhile. For instance, a “Lunch and Learn” that doesn’t offer lunch, or a coupon for a cheap restaurant most people could pick up themselves won’t impress. A copy of the CEO’s biography for a job well done can seem more conceited than motivating. If you are going to offer an incentive, offer something the person will really value and appreciate. If you need some ideas, ask your employees what gestures, perks or options they would like. Support wellness. With aging baby boomers, and the large percentage of people overweight in our country, physical fitness and general wellness are hot topics. But like everything, wellness comes at a cost – gyms, nutritionists, chiropractors – all cost money. One perk more companies are offering is a health and wellness program. This can save the company money in the long run when it comes to health insurance

premiums since healthy employees typically file less health insurance claims. Companies can offer discounted gym memberships or even construct a gym or walking track that can be used during lunch breaks or off-hours. Remember the classics. Almost all employees appreciate a free meal, a day off, a nicer snack room, an annual bonus, a Christmas or birthday card and even a more comfortable chair. Keep the classics in place; they do the job of letting employees know they are appreciated. Be flexible. Offering flexible hours and a telecommuting option can be a huge incentive for some employees – especially for those who have long commutes, family responsibilities and spend most of their time on the computer or phone. With today’s technology, a workday from home can be just as productive, if not more so at times, than one spent in a noisy office. Plus your employee can enjoy the benefit of working in their favorite chair, and in their pajamas for that matter. Familiarity breeds liking. Psychologists have found that the more time people spend around each other, especially if they are making good memories, the more they like that person or group. It’s called “The Exposure Effect.” Managers can put this dynamic to work by planning social events for their employees. A company party where employees can socialize, a retreat where they can relax while brainstorming, a round of drinks for a job well done – all these are good

Greg Smith’s cutting-edge keynotes, consulting, and training programs have helped businesses reduce turnover, increase sales, hire better people and deliver better customer service. 760.247.7474 13609 Hitt Road, Apple Valley, CA Serving the High Desert since 1964 examples of how managers can use the exposure effect to their advantage. It’s in the little things. Don’t underestimate the power of small gestures such as writing a thank you note, asking about your employee’s family, or pointing out a job well done at the company meeting or in your business’ newsletter. Little things like this go a long way and are easy for a manager to do. And they are free! Put your money where your mouth is. People love the note, the pat on the back or the free meal. But a well-placed bonus or raise can give an employee enough mojo to cruise happily along for months if not the year. The saying is true – in the end, money talks, and for employees it says “I value you, I recognize your contribution, and I want you to stay and keep doing a great job.”

Turn off the water faucet while you brush your teeth, and you can help save up to 4 gallons per minute.

Sing to your favorite 5 minute song while you're in the shower. Finish before the end of it and you’ll save up to 1,000 gallons per month.

If you replace all toilets installed before 1992 with WaterSense labeled models, you can save nearly 13,000 gallons per year.

Restore Deleted and Damaged Hard Drive Partitions By Alex R Schneider Source: Free Articles from Articlebiz.com

Almost every computer user has experience data loss on at least one occasion due to accidentally deleting files, formatting a hard drive, or removing a hard drive partition. Although most computers only have one physical hard drive, they’re usually logically divided into two or more partitions, which each act as separate hard drives. Windows, for example, typically creates at least two partitions, with one being used for system files. This may be hidden from the operating system, since there’s no drive letter assigned to it. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) often include at least one further partition for recovering files and programs which shipped with the computer. Sometimes, it’s safe to delete these, but there’s always a risk of accidentally deleting the wrong partition. Windows always warns you before deleting a partition, stating that all data stored on it will be deleted. Fortunately, that’s not really the case. When you delete a partition, it disappears immediately, and you can use the disk space it previously occupied to create a new partition or extend an existing one. If Windows were really going to delete all data byte-by-byte, it would take much longer. What really happens is that the previously occupied space is made available to the rest of the operating system, which means it may eventually be overwritten when you install new programs or create or copy over new files on it. Until that happens, you have a window of opportunity for using data recovery software to get back what you lost. Sometimes, it’s even possible to recover partitions and files which were lost ages ago. Active@ Partition Recovery is a freeware toolkit which was designed to help you exploit that window of opportunity. It allows you to recover deleted or damaged logical drive partitions under Windows, WinPE, Linux, and DOS operating environments. To minimize the risk of any further damage or the chances of overwriting deleted data, thus permanently destroying it, the software runs in its own self-contained boot environment. That means you can use it with your primary hard disk, even if there isn’t an operating system installed on your computer. It also recovers data from external hard drives and USB flash disks and memory cards. Furthermore, you can use the software to recover from a wide range of file systems natively supported by Windows and Linux. The latest edition sports a new and improved recovery kernel with lots of tweaks and performance upgrades. Version 19, released in October 2019, has also been redesigned to offer a more modern and user-friendly experience with an overhauled registration and welcome screen. Recovery routines have also been improved for volumes with 4KB sector sizes. The Last Chance recovery methods, which you can use to search for and recover deleted files of specific formats, has seen some upgrades too, with added support for Canon Raw Image (CR3) files and Finale Notation Files (MUSX) file signatures. Now you can easily recover data from your computer or external devices lost due to accidental deletion, damage by malware or power failure, and more.

Member Spotlight The Apple Valley Legacy Museum, Cottage 153 at the Historic Apple Valley Inn, has been busy with community projects. In recent months we have provided facts on local cities and towns for High Desert Opportunity, set up displays at Happy Trails Automotive, provided information on the history of Apple Valley Ranchos Water Co., researched bridges and mills in the Apple Valley area for the Mojave River Valley Museum, and provided maps and historical information for the new owner of an old adobe on Rancherias. Our volunteers have hosted booths at the Apple Valley Flea Market, two Sunset at Santa Fe events, and the Village Street Fair after the parade. Speaking of the parade, we served as Grand Marshall, and our musical float, representing the history of Apple Valley parades, won a prize. We have worked on two George Air Force Base related projects, the Capt. Joseph McConnell display at the Apple Valley Air Show, and the Staff Sgt. Isiah Roberts Legacy banquet with the Ferrarese Foundation. Three recent presentations given to non-profits were “Local Historical Points of Interest,” at both the Friends of the Apple Valley Library and Mohahve Historical Society, and “Bell Mountain Families” at the Sierra Club. If you want to visit the museum, plan a field trip, need help with a project, or just want to get information about the history of the Town or local area, please stop by or call (760) 985-1918. Volunteers are always needed, and donations are greatly appreciated. Happy Trails!
