WALT DAVIS HOUSE & FINANCE

Labor Day at the Pool 2025

A NOTE FROM TOM HOULE & WALT DAVIS FINANCE COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRS

Dear Ansley Members,

It has been an exciting and eventful year at Ansley Golf Club, marked by several important projects and with the much-anticipated reopening of Settindown. Among the many accomplishments this year, one highlight is the completion of the 1912 Grille & Lounge renovation, which has been met with strong member enthusiasm and utilization.

The Long-Range Planning (LRP) Committee has been focused on three key initiatives: Ansley Forward, The Ansley Foundation, and Parking/Real Estate opportunities. Each initiative has been supported by a dedicated sub-committee of LRP members, and all have made meaningful progress:

Ansley Forward – The sub-committee has gathered valuable design feedback from across the club, including athletics, tennis, and youth activities. In partnership with our architect, KDC, we shared design plans with two focus groups of committee members, which were received with enthusiasm and constructive input. We look forward to presenting these plans to the broader membership in the months ahead.

The Ansley Foundation – The foundation has been formally established, and we are awaiting tax-exempt status to begin operations. Once active, the foundation will focus on charitable efforts, employee engagement, and community involvement. This will allow initiatives such as Make A Difference to be supported directly through the foundation.

Parking and Real Estate Opportunities – We are pleased to share that Ansley has successfully renewed our parking lease with Morningside Church for the next twenty years. While this relationship remains critical to our operations, the sub-committee continues to evaluate opportunities to expand parking capacity or acquire property to meet the club’s long-term needs.

As the year comes to a close, please watch for communications about 2026 committee opportunities. Each year, more than 150 members serve on various standing committees. The LRP Committee will conduct initial interviews with prospective committee members and share recommendations with Committee Chairs, who will then complete the interview and selection process.

In closing, we extend our sincere thanks to all members of the LRP Committee for their time, dedication, and contributions—not only during our early-morning monthly meetings, but also through their extensive subcommittee work.

With so much happening at Ansley, we are not only achieving progress today but also laying the foundation for the club’s long-term success. Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm as we work together to shape Ansley’s bright future.

Warm regards,

LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE
Evan Byers, Lindsey Cottingham, Liz Davies, Chris Edmonds, Brian Gately, Jeff Goldstein, Mike Gothard, Jon Kaye, Gary Lagarde, Bascome Majors, Andy McLean, Lee Parks, Doug Reid, Greg Ryan, Jim Schwarzkopf, Colin Sturgis, Monika Thiels

The Return to SETTINDOWN

CLUBHOUSE OPENING

We are thrilled to share the exciting news that, after a year of thoughtful renovation and renewal, the Settindown clubhouse is officially reopening beginning Friday, October 24.

First and foremost, we extend our sincere gratitude for your patience and support during this past year. The project was a true collaboration between our architect, contractor, and interior design team, all of whom worked with a shared vision: to preserve the unique character of Settindown while creating a space that feels comfortable, natural, and rustic—elevated to a high standard without being ostentatious.

The scope of work was comprehensive and impactful. The result is a clubhouse that both honors the spirit of Settindown and enhances your overall experience. We look forward to welcoming you and your guests back to enjoy the renewed spaces together.

We cannot wait to see you at Settindown!

Highlights include:

• New furnishings that blend contemporary style with timeless character

• Enhanced lighting throughout the clubhouse

• A redesigned ceiling in the Cupp Room

• Renovated golf shop, ladies’ locker room, and kitchen

• Upgraded infrastructure, including a synthetic Brava roof, modern insulation, and a new fire sprinkler system

SETTINDOWN GOLF OPERATIONS

Opening Tee Sheets

Friday – Monday, October 24-27

The Golf Staff will implement a lottery system for tee times during Settindown’s opening days.

Members will fill out a request form via an email link that will be sent out to membership on Monday, October 6th. Lottery requests will open when they are sent and close on Sunday, October 12th. The parameters for the lottery will be as follows:

Members should submit a foursome request. Foursomes will receive priority in the draw. Groups with fewer than four players will be paired together to complete a foursome.

Tee times will be divided into three waves (8 am–2 pm). Members should indicate their preferred wave, and times will be assigned within that wave based on preferences.

Each member may submit only one request for the four-day period. Please coordinate with your group so you are only listed once.

The lottery is for members and spouses only. Dependents, TBDs, and guests are not eligible. Dependents may book on a space-available basis once the tee sheet opens seven days in advance.

The Golf Shop will run the lottery and publish the tee sheets on Wednesday, October 15th.

Remaining tee times will be available through the usual seven-day advance booking process, with tee times running every 15 minutes from 8 am to 5 pm.

Affinity Group play will begin on Wednesday, November 5th, and guest play is tentatively scheduled to resume on December 1st, depending on member demand.

These policies may be adjusted as needed to best serve the membership through the remainder of 2025.

Trackman “Reality Check”

How far do you hit your clubs?

Do you know the difference in the carry distance and total distance of your clubs?

Do you have multiple clubs that you hit the same distance in your bag? 3-5 yards appears insignificant, but 9-15 feet short, long, left, or right can be the difference in birdie or double bogey during each round.

We will spend one-hour at Settindown in the Learning Center hitting four to six shots with each club in your bag, obtaining genuine carry distance, total distance, and much more.

Trackman launch monitor measures and displays the full trajectory of any shot, from 6-foot pitches to 400-yard drives, pinpointing the landing position with an accuracy of 1½ feet at 160 yards. It also maps the shot’s 3D trajectory in real time, together with all impact and launch information.

The radar systems track Club Path and Face Angle to Swing Direction and Low Point. Furthermore, the Full Ball Flight - from Launch to Land Angle; including Spin Rate and Curvature.

When: October 1 – February 28

Time: one hour assessment

Cost: $100

RSVP: Email Jacob Tilton jtilton@ansleygc.org or Russ Davis rdavis@ansleygc.org

Following the Rules: A Note From

One of the things that makes Ansley Golf Club so special is how our members come together to keep the pool a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. From the moment you check in at the gate, we’re able to keep track of attendance and ensure the pool is never overcrowded. This summer alone—between May and August— over 10,900 members and 1,190 guests enjoyed the water while respecting the rules that make swimming a safe activity for families and friends.

Rules may not always feel exciting, but they are what allow us to relax and have fun with peace of mind. Whether it’s waiting your turn on the diving board, making sure young swimmers stay within reach, or following lifeguard instructions, each small action adds up to a big difference. When everyone does their part, the pool becomes more than a place to swim—it becomes a place to connect, laugh, and create memories together.

At Ansley, “Following the Rules” isn’t just about compliance—it’s about community. By looking out for one another, we ensure that every visit to the pool is safe, welcoming, and full of fun.
