THE

“Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town”

WhhatWhappens when passion meets purpose? Every December over the last 12 years, forty to fifty fervent golfers have dressed up as St. Nick all for a good cause. What started off as a small group of friends meeting to play a round of golf in festive threads has since grown into an afternoon of philanthropy.

This charitable event is called the Santa Swindle, a group of Santa’s with a passion to help others while having a blast on the golf course with their fellow members. The community has piqued interest in this event as they cruise down Montgomery Ferry Dr. to see groups of golfing Santas on our Midtown course. They stop to take photos, ask questions, learn about the cause and to share in the passion of giving.

This event is packed with spectators and has become a focal point of our Club’s holiday season while making a big impact on the community. As people talk, and spread good cheer, the Santa Swindle has grabbed the attention of many media outlets as it has heightened in publicity. The Ansley Santa Swindle has been featured on WSB – Channel 2, the PGA, as well as Barstool Sports and No Laying Up podcast. What was once a group of friends enjoying their favorite pass time has turned into a tradition that raises thousands for charities every year.

These groups of Santa’s are proud to announce that over the last 5 years, $10,000 - $30,000 has been raised for some of these local charities that have been chosen.

As we prepare for our 2024 Santa Swindle, happening on Friday, December 20, we hope to continue to elevate our community and to support one another while having A GREAT time out on the course.

If you wish to contribute, please Venmo, @theSwindle (Notate that it is a donation to the Santa Swindle Charity Event.)

Behind the Scenes:

• Charities are chosen in advance of the event and have generally been chosen to honor members of the club or local charities that Swindlers have a connection to or passion for. Including A+ Squash (Eben Hardie), Winship Cancer Institute (Emily Bennett), Lisa Kabus Foundation and The Atlanta Dream Center.

• Turned into a charitable event in 2019

• Over 100k has been given since 2019

• The guys in the group are all passionate about golf and having fun but equally passionate about helping others in the community by honoring fellow Swindlers and spouses that have passed away.

• Hundreds of cars stop and enjoy annually. Kicks off the Christmas spirit not only for the Swindlers and Ansley but for the neighborhood and area as well.

A NOTE FROM BRIAN MACALUSO & CHRIS MAREK

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIRS

The Ansley members and Staff are the heart and soul of our club. Each year, our teams work tirelessly to provide the very best experience for every Member and Associate. Over the past few years, we have witnessed consistently high volumes of activity in all areas of the Club. There is little doubt that you too have felt that heightened activity and have noticed more members of the same family utilizing the facilities. We love the fact that the Club has become more important to more family members. With the additional usage, the Membership Committee continues to work appropriately to ensure the membership has a positive experience.

Welcoming new members to Ansley is important to the growth and financial health of Ansley Golf Club. The Membership Committee is tasked to continuously review and evaluate membership categories and procedures to ensure that Ansley can continue to remain a Club of choice in Atlanta. This includes member access, the length of our waitlist and the long-term financial impact to our club.

Since 2021, the Membership Committee, with the support of the Board of Directors, has limited the number of new members invited to join the club to three per month. This is a combination of new members from the Primary, Legacy and Limited Settindown waitlists. The distribution of categories will allow the club to bring in budgeted initiation fees to support capital expenditures, but not add unnecessary pressure to the Club’s amenities. Naturally, slowing down the acceptance of new members has caused our waitlists to grow steadily. Interest in joining Ansley remains extremely high and expected wait times have more than doubled over the past two years for our primary list and even more so for our legacy program. Once on the waitlist, a Prospective new member may experience a wait of 6 years or longer, should nothing change, before being invited to join AGC. Membership attrition continues to be at its lowest rates in recent history, approximately 1/3 the attrition rate we experienced historically. While this is a great problem to have, many members and members in waiting have expressed frustration with the long wait times. As a committee, we are committed to keeping the club levels at an appropriate number that balances our economic needs as well as ensures a positive member experience. This is the number one concern of our committee, and it is a consistent area of our focus.

As we move forward, the Membership Committee will continue to do its part to make certain that our membership remains a collective group of outstanding individuals who support the culture that is Ansley Golf Club. We would like to express our gratitude to the 2024 Membership Committee, who have taken the time to serve and have worked together to make a difference: Simon Chio, Bill Kilborn, Rob Spencer, Olivene Makerson, Daniel Hanison, Paige Byers, Tracy Roberts, Cameron Eck, Craig McKesson, David Midkiff, Erin Yabroudy, Hedy Rubinger, Karen Benton and Sam Clay. Each have given many hours to the club at committee meetings, and we appreciate all their efforts this past year.

Also, a special thanks to Paula Savignano who makes every new member feel special. Her ability to connect and form fantastic relationships with all Prospective New Members is unmatched. She is an amazing person and a true asset to our club.

We hope to see you around the Club!

3rd Floor Renovation Project

Mrs. Lynda & Mr. Bernard Greer

It was back in 1975 when the Greers made their decision to join Ansley Golf Club after being persuaded by their fellow friends who had already been enjoying the club for many years. It was an easy decision for them considering they had just relocated to Ansley Park and the Club was only 5 min from their new home on Peachtree rd. Not to mention their young children who took full advantage of the family activities from tennis, golf, social functions, and pool. "It's always been very friendly, more than just a place to come and have dinner. The warm personal experience that you receive from the staff is sometimes overwhelming. They welcome you as friends, and treat you like family," Bernard stated. It's now 2024, which means the Greers have been members for almost 50 years. We wanted to take the time to give them a shoutout and to let them know how much we've loved getting to know them and we hope they keep enjoying the club!

ANSLEY CHICKEN PICCATA

A delicious Italian dinner with golden-crusted chicken breasts simmered in a lemony butter and caper sauce. Guaranteed to bring smiles all around the table for you and your family.

INGREDIENTS:

• 4 Chicken Breasts

• 4 Whole Eggs

• 1 Cup AP Flour

• 1 Cup Parmesan Cheese

• 1# Angel Hair pasta

• ¼ Cup Capers

• 2 Ripe Tomatoes

• 4 Bunches Broccolini

• 1 # Whole Butter

• 2 Lemons

• Salt

• Pepper

METHOD:

1. Pat dry chicken breasts. Slice chicken on a bias into 4 pieces. Lay out chicken breast on a cutting board and cover with plastic wrap on top. Lightly pound chicken cutlets to desired thickness.

2. Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Add to flour mixture and coat accordingly.

3. Crack and mix eggs until well scrambled. Add in ¾ cups of parmesan cheese to egg mixture. Add chicken cutlets to egg mixture and ensure they are coated evenly.

4. Add chicken to a non-stick sauté pan on medium heat with a small amount of canola or olive oil. Sear both sides until golden brown. Cook to internal temperature of 165 degrees.

5. Add angel hair pasta to pot with boiling salted water like the ocean. Cook until al dente.

6. Season and grill broccolini.

7. For the lemon butter sauce, bring ½ cup of water to a boil in a pot. Dice butter into cubes and set aside.

8. Once water is at a boil turn to low and begin whisking in cubed butter. Be sure to add butter gradually to avoid breaking the sauce. Once all butter is incorporated, finish with salt, pepper, and fresh lemon juice.

Trackman “Reality Check”

• How far do you hit your clubs?

• Do you know the difference in the carry distance and total distance of your clubs?

• Do you have multiple clubs that you hit the same distance in your bag?

• 3-5 yards appears insignificant, but 9-15 feet short, long, left, or right can be the difference in birdie or double bogey during each round.

Spend one-hour at Settindown in the Learning Center hitting four to six shots with each club in your bag, obtaining genuine carry distance, total distance, and much more.

Trackman launch monitor measures and displays the full trajectory of any shot, from 6-foot pitches to 400-yard drives, pinpointing the landing position with an accuracy of 1½ feet at 160 yards. It also maps the shot's 3D trajectory in real time, together with all impact and launch information.

The radar systems track Club Path and Face Angle to Swing Direction and Low Point. Furthermore, the Full Ball Flight - from Launch to Land Angle; including Spin Rate and Curvature.

ALGA Closing Event

Storms associated with Hurricane Helene couldn’t keep the ALGA faithful from turning out for our season ending event, held on Wednesday September 25th. Over 40 ladies attended and enjoyed food, fun and friendship. The festivities included a review of the season by our Board President, Judy Marani, including a recap of the events held, an update on our membership numbers (we are currently at 193), and news about upcoming events and Play Away dates.

Phil Taylor was on hand to congratulate our 2024 season winners. Reagan McLaughlin and Lisa DiFrancesco were celebrated as champs of the Martha Maddox Match Play, and the members of the Masters Team who won the Ansley Cup competition were recognized. Additionally, Georgia Schultz was awarded Most Improved Golfer for 2024, and Reagan McLaughlin was honored for completing the most rounds of golf this past year.

Thanks to Shawn Sandor for hosting and “rolling with the punches” that Hurricane Helene dished out. It was a great evening!

Stay tuned for more Play Away dates and social events coming in 2025!

You can register for any ALGA event on the Ansley App by going to GOLF --> ALGA --> Special Events and then scroll to find the event in which you are interested. Most registrations open 30 days prior to the scheduled event.

Fall & Winter Junior Scoring at Settindown

Playing lessons on our Short Course with Junior Golf Leader, Jacob Tilton, and Assistant Golf Professionals at Settindown Creek. We want to get our junior golfers out on the golf course learning how to SCORE. We will play 4-holes on the Short Course, starting at 25 yards. The objective is to play each hole for a target score of 4 from each yardage. We want the juniors to play the course 2-3 times in the afternoon with our professionals learning pace of play, rules, etiquette, and much more. Parents are encouraged to play the short course from the same tee markers as their junior.

All Junior Golfers start at Division 1 (25 Yards)

Instead of starting at the full tee box, all golfers begin in Division 1 and will play 4 holes starting 25 yards from each green. Each hole is a par 4.

Pickleball Technology is Changing

The speed at which pickleball paddle technology is changing is unprecedented in Racquet Sports. The governing bodies that monitor the paddles and deem them “legal” for tournament play are even having a hard time keeping up. Things are changing so fast that some paddles are legal at the beginning of an event and are deemed illegal by the end of the event.

The manufacturing process for the core of the paddles, the materials used in the face of the paddles and technology involved in the edges of the paddles are all moving very quickly. These technologies are even changing the tactics players are using in matches. If you have an older paddle you might want to try out a new paddle and see if it helps your performance. Joola and Selkirk are leading the way in these technologies, but all the companies are moving forward as fast as they can.

Come by the shop and try a new paddle to see if this could be your “cheat code” to a higher level of play.

CHARLIE BROWN AT THE ASO

“Peanuts’ timeless holiday television special comes to life on stage with the national tour of A Charlie Brown Christmas Live On Stage. The critically acclaimed holiday celebration that the whole family can enjoy brings Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, and the rest of the Peanuts gang together live on stage as they uncover the true meaning of Christmas and perform songs from the unforgettable musical score in a tribute to the legendary composer Vince Guaraldi. The Broadway-style production complete with all-new immersive sets, lighting, choreography, and colorful costumes has sold more than 300,000 tickets over the prior holiday seasons.

Peanuts is among the most popular and influential brands in the world, and Schulz’s Emmy and Peabody award-winning story has been a longstanding tradition, warming the hearts of millions of fans since it first aired on television almost 60 years ago. A Charlie Brown Christmas Live On Stage encompasses each of your favorite scenes from the original animated television show, with more fun, more music, and more finding the true Christmas spirit.
