A NOTE FROM BILL TORDELLA PRESIDENT
Dear Ansley Club Members,
I hope this message finds you in good health. Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, from ongoing inflation and labor shortages to water damage at Midtown and Settindown, and the fire at the maintenance building, it's evident that Ansley Golf Club has faced its share of hurdles. Nevertheless, I am delighted to report that despite these challenges, Ansley Golf Club is thriving, and I anticipate that 2024 will be an exceptional year for us.
The heart of Ansley's culture, our most valuable asset, shone through as our Membership responded resiliently to these challenges, supporting our staff, and fostering a sense of camaraderie among fellow members. This culture defines Ansley and remains the core of our identity.
Remarkably, member usage in 2023 either met or exceeded record highs, our membership is at capacity, and our attrition remains at record lows. The Club is perceived as a place of refuge from the unpredictability of daily life, evidenced by our still growing waitlist. Notably, our dues and fees remain approximately 20% below those of our peer clubs. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated staff and valued membership for contributing to this success.
In addition to the Settindown Creek renovation project starting this Fall, we are actively working with an architect, builder, and interior designer on renovation plans for the Midtown golf pro-shop and much of Midtown’s third floor, set to commence this Fall. Concepts for rebuilding the maintenance building and designs for replacing the pool and tennis building continue to progress.
Capital Spending Update: I'm thrilled to share significant developments in capital spending, exceeding $2.5 million this past year. December marked a major milestone as we successfully acquired 443 Montgomery Ferry Drive, a single-family home strategically positioned at the corner of Montgomery Ferry and Monroe. This acquisition adds to our ownership, now having acquired the bookend houses on the south side of Montgomery Ferry, completing two of the nine homes from Monroe to the Beltline.
Our commitment to enhancing the Club's amenities is evident in substantial projects, including $500,000+ on Grounds at Midtown and Settindown, $200,000+ on kitchen equipment, $125,000 on a complete Wi-Fi improvement, $125,00 on grounds, and over $500,000 on building enhancements.
As we closed out 2023, our Club proudly boasts over $17.5 million in capital reserves while having no debt, a testament to our prudent financial management and dedication to long-term sustainability. Fortunately, the capital reserves have earned 5% over the last year while invested in insured money market accounts. With the forthcoming Settindown golf course, the beltline protective net and Midtown renovations, a significant portion of these reserves will be spent to benefit the membership.
Looking ahead, I am confident that our General Manager, Calvin Bolling and his team will guide The Club to new heights while preserving the unique spirit of Ansley. Please express your gratitude to Calvin, our staff and all our member committee volunteers who give so much of their time to The Club for all our benefit.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to making Ansley Golf Club an extraordinary community.
See you around The Club,
Bill Tordella President

Growing Up with Ms. Pam
I started as the Youth Director at Ansley Golf Club in May of 2001. Having recently graduated from Emory University, I was looking for the next chapter in my life. Honestly, I took the job as a transitional step until I decided on my career path. Little did I know that I would fall in love with the members, their children, and my fellow employees at Ansley. The people are the heart of the club. It became another family for me. My first child in the program was John Flor. He was four months old at the time, and I jumped at the opportunity to have him in the Shark’s Den. His family lived on Golf Circle, and they became regulars. His mom told me after the first day, “You will see a lot of us in the coming years.” Thank goodness she took the leap of faith and trusted me with her child! Not too long after, more and more parents followed suit and before I knew it, the Shark’s Den was growing year after year. The youth program had 1,330 children participating in 2001 and has grown to 3,452 children for our 2023 program.
Let’s take a closer look into the lives of three children who were there in the beginning. First, we have John Flor, who is now 23 years old.
NowVs.Then
“My favorite memory of the Shark’s Den was going to Dinner and a Movie every Friday night. Growing up, we lived on Golf Circle, so our parents would walk us across the street to Ms. Pam’s while they had dinner in the Ansley Room. Nothing better than a chicken finger and fry buffet to go along with the Lion King.”
I remember John’s favorite field trip being the ski trip to Cataloochee. He thinks they went at least 8 years in a row. He reminds us, “Even though it was like skiing on a frozen lake most years, we looked forward to that trip as much as anything all year. One memory that sticks out from Maggie Valley is the year it actually snowed. Our bus got stuck in the snow on the way to the cabin, so all 20 or so kids got out and pushed it the rest of the way.” John graduated from Marist
in 2019, UGA in 2023, and now works for the commercial real estate firm Wilson, Hull, & Neal. In his free time, he plays golf and pickleball at the club and started coaching at Buckhead Baseball. He always wanted to be a baseball player growing up and was an amazing athlete. Now he fulfills that baseball love through coaching and cheering on the Braves.
Second, we have another Golf Circle resident, Maggie Maloof, who is now 21 years old. She started coming to the Shark’s Den at 6 months old.
“I have so many amazing memories with Ms. Pam and from the Shark’s Den, that when I think of my childhood, that is the place I think of, full of my life-long friends. Some of my favorite memories are making
gingerbread houses out of cardboard, going to the church for Playball, Ms. Pam’s etiquette class, pretending to be asleep after Dinner and a Movie so I didn’t have to go home, and the annual ski trip and talent show!”
Her favorite field trips were the ski trip and the annual hockey game where we throw stuffed animals on the ice. Maggie is a junior at UGA studying biotechnology, on the path to being a Physician’s Assistant.
Third, we have Regan Phelan, who is now 22 years old. She also started in the Shark’s Den at 6 months old. Just like the Flors and Maloofs and many families here, the Phelans are like extended family and the bond I formed with these children is so special. Regan is a junior at Fordham

John
John
University. Like Maggie and John, the ski trip and Dinner and a Movie are two of her favorites. “So many of my earliest memories in the Shark’s Den are of finding the perfect place with my friends to set up our sleeping bags and having little cups of popcorn and fruit punch during the movie. It was especially exciting when we got to vote on which movie to watch! The ski trip was always the event of the year, and my friends and I were always super excited for it. We’d talk, play games, and listen to music during the journey there, and then have a big spaghetti dinner the first night. We’d get to ski the mountain all weekend, having races, and riding the lifts together with our skis dangling beneath us. It was definitely the highlight of our winters as kids.” She hopes to become a marine biologist with a degree in biological sciences, as she is passionate about our oceans and wildlife conservation. She wants to do something that has a positive impact on the world and be a part of the restoration effort for our coral reefs. These three are a sample of the children who have grown up at Ansley Golf Club. I can’t wait to see the impact they make on the world and here at Ansley, as they become members and start their families in the years to come.

PGA Junior League
The PGA Junior League is a program developed by the PGA of America to allow juniors to experience everything that encompasses golf. Your junior will learn how to play, etiquette, sportsmanship, and team competition during the spring (March) and early summer (June). Also, you and your junior will develop lasting friendships with other juniors and parents. What is the format? Currently, we are trying to recruit 36 to 48 juniors (ages 8- 13) of any skill level for Ansley to develop our own league.
The juniors will be divided up into four teams and each team will have a PGA golf professional as a coach during the season. We will have practices for the juniors to develop their skills and matches during the season to test their skills. When we conduct matches, the juniors will play a nine-hole two-person scramble match play format. So, the stress of competing is not a factor! During the matches, the parents can be spectators to cheer for their junior and team. For more information, please contact Richard Hatcher, scgolfstaff@ ansleygc.org
When: March 16 – June 1
Location: Settindown Course

Team Golf at Ansley?
We call it The Ansley Cup
If you enjoy competing on a team, or just having fun with fellow ALGA members, make sure to sign up for the Ansley Cup. This will be the second year of the Ansley Cup, and it is sure to be even more fun than last year! The Pro Shop groups 3 teams from all registrants, dividing the players to be as competitive as possible with similar handicap totals. Teams then play on six dates from March through August (see the ALGA Calendar). Don’t worry if you can’t play on all of the dates, your teammates will have your back. Just play as many dates as you can and record your score with the golf shop. Scores over the six dates are then totaled to declare a team champion at the end of the season. It is a great event, with a little fun competition between ALGA members.
To participate in the Ansley Cup, please email Liam Mitchell, lmitchell@ansleygc.org
Deadline to register to participate is March 6. Sign-ups for the individual play dates begin March 7 on the Ansley App.

Tennis Committee On-line Booking Rules Notice
Dear Ansley Member,
We wanted to bring to your attention some of the rules that are in place for the on-line court booking system to make sure that everyone understands the policies and procedures of the new system. Since it is a new system, we understand that all the rules might not have been made clear to you in the past.
1. Please make sure that if you book a court and then decide you cannot use it, you must go into your bookings and cancel the court or call the pro-shop to do so. A “no-show” will be a fine of $25 to players listed in the booking.
2. Member groups are not to book multiple free play court bookings in back-to-back time slots in order to hold extra court time or in case of bad weather. We ask that everyone book single time slots to ensure that we service as many members as possible.
3. Please make sure that if you are playing doubles that all four of your players are listed on the booking prior to your court time. This can be added through the app or on-line after the initial booking is made. If you are not registering all four players for doubles play or not registering your guest, an automatic guest fee of $25 per player will be charged to the registered players on the booking.
4. Please make sure that you register your guests when booking your on-line court. Each guest is allowed to play twice a month with a guest fee or upfront guest fees (paid by the member).
This notification serves as a courtesy warning. If these ruled are not followed, the committee will begin the fining processes.
We thank you for your understanding of these policies and we look forward to seeing you at the courts.
Your Ansley Golf Club Tennis Committee

While our coaches excel at what they do, safety is of the utmost importance while these young swimmers are in the water.
First Week of Practice: Monday, April 22
Time of Practice: 4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Swimmers must be on the approved swimmers list to participate as a Jr. Shark.
