Ansley Members,
A NOTE FROM SCOTT SPECHT
On behalf of the Golf Committee, welcome to the 2024 Ansley Golf Season!
The 2024 golf season will undoubtedly prove to be both exciting and challenging as we strive to schedule as many events and rounds as prudently possible prior to the commencement of the renovation of our championship course, Settindown Creek, shortly after Labor Day. While the anticipated twelve-month closure of Settindown Creek will significantly impact the Ansley golfing membership, the Club has made a diligent effort to secure reciprocal arrangements with other Atlanta area clubs to help us through the renovation period. Off campus golf trips are also in the planning stages. Also, please remember that during the full course renovation, the Settindown Creek practice facilities and short course will remain open and available for those golfers wanting to improve their game. Initially, limiting play on the Midtown course to nine holes during the Settindown Creek renovation is intended to ensure as much golf access as possible for the membership given the circumstances. Should the opportunity arise to allow eighteen-hole play at the Midtown course as determined by the Golf Staff, the ninehole restriction will be modified to best serve the golfing membership. Change is difficult and the decision to renovate the Settindown Course will be no exception to that notion. As we suffer through the pain and inconvenience of the course closure necessary to enable the renovation, let’s appreciate the hard effort and long hours devoted to this effort by the various committees, the Grounds Staff and the Golf Staff that worked through the design and logistics process and look forward to enjoying a newly renovated Settindown Creek course in the fall of 2025 – rebuilt greens, green surrounds, tees and bunkers, new irrigation and drainage systems and some exciting course changes. As a 38-year golfing member of Ansley Golf Club, I have seen a lot of changes to the Club’s facilities and anticipate that the Settindown Creek course renovation will be one for which we will all be thankful for many years to come following completion.
To enhance accessibility to the golf courses, the new Foretee tee time reservation system was adopted to enhance the ability of members to reserve tee times in advance and has successfully reduced unused and underused tee times. Thus far, this online reservation system has been widely accepted by the Ansley membership. To ensure that reserved tee times are utilized and made available, the Committee and Staff have set rules to ensure timely cancellation of tee times when members’ plans change.
The Club is adjusting to numerous recent Golf Staff departures and departure announcements. We recently lost our Director of Golf, Will Hutter, and wish him the best in his new endeavor at an exclusive new club in Texas. A new search is currently underway to replace Will. Richard Hatcher, the Head Golf Professional at Settindown, has announced his retirement effective June 15, 2024, after more than 25 years at Ansley Golf Club. Hatch has been an integral part of the Ansley Golf Club fabric, and we will miss him dearly. Be sure to give Hatch thanks for his dedicated service over the years when you next see him. Golf assistant pros Liam Mitchell and Ben Dulin have recently left the Club to pursue their careers and broaden their
resumés. We hope to perhaps see these outstanding professionals back at Ansley in the future. Let us all remember that the staffing departures have increased responsibilities for Scott Primm, the Head Golf Professional at Midtown, and we ask the membership to be respectful of that workload and to assist Scott whenever and however possible. Notwithstanding the golf staffing challenges, the management of the golf courses and the golfing experience at Ansley Golf Club remains exceptional. Kudos to the capable Golf Staff for successfully weathering the storm thus far.
The hugely successful Member-Member was held April 18-20 with perfect weather. The championship shootout that concluded the event was as exciting as it gets. Congratulations to Arik Kono and Chris Darley for their well-deserved victory. Tournament demand continues to be at an all-time high as we had a record of 205 entrants for the Lottery seeking a coveted spot in the upcoming annual Bull MemberGuest June 6-8. The annual calendar also includes many of the traditional tournament favorites including the Billy Jones Team Match Play, the Men’s Club Championship and Senior Club Championship and the Senior Member-Guest. There is a tournament opportunity to fit every player’s needs.
The Ansley Ladies Golf Association (ALGA) offers a busy calendar of events to provide both social and competitive events for a variety of skill levels, while encouraging camaraderie and improving golf skills throughout the year. According to Judy Marani, the President of the ALGA, ALGA has two main initiatives this year: to grow the membership to embrace more ladies and to offer more events to accommodate those members who have more traditional work schedules. Already, ALGA has surpassed its goal of reaching 200 members. The event schedule has 3 new twilight events: a Play Like a Pro clinic and two 9-hole fun themed events in June and August. In only its 6th year, May’s Member-Guest two-day event has gained notoriety and sold out for the first time in its history. In addition, the ALGA calendar includes monthly Ansley Cup Team Play and the more competitive Margaret Maddox Match Play. Remember, Ladies Day is Wednesday, with ALGA also holding reserved twilight tee times.
We are so lucky to have an extraordinary golf staff at Ansley and I would ask each of you to let the staff personnel know how much you appreciate their hard work and great service next time you are at the course. Our team at Ansley includes Assistant Professionals Alex Watkins and Paxton Sherman, the Golf Shop Coordinator Gina Waters, along with outside staff Tomeaka Lester, Ali Sekandar, Andrew Williams, AJ Pereira, Cam Torres, Sam Hicks, Charlie McClure, Dennis Bledsoe, and Patrick Hummel. Our Settindown Creek team includes Assistant Professionals AJ Panyko and James Ferguson, Golf Shop Coordinator Emma Classon and starters Lee Sauvin, Barry Hegwood, and Jim Hinden. Also, a big thanks goes out to our dedicated Director of Golf Instruction, Russ Davis, to whom many of you owe (or for whom many of you inappropriately blame) those revised swings, and to the Pied Piper of Ansley, Jacob Tilton, for, among his many attributes, his devotion to introducing the joy of golf to our youngsters.
I hope you enjoy your time on the golf course with friends and family. I look forward to seeing you around the Club!

JUNE 2024 NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Settindown Golf Course Master Plan
Featuring Hole #7
Each month until we begin the Settindown renovation, we will preview a hole and Tyler Rae will share his thoughts behind the design of that hole. “We hope all members enjoyed our “peek behind the curtains” into our architectural vision for Hole #18 and today will discuss the new Hole #7.
While we absolutely adore and love the current iteration of Hole #7, we felt major changes had to be carried out within the Hole #7, Hole #8, and Hole #9 corridor to alleviate certain safety issues right of the fairway on Hole #8 as well as ongoing sunlight, drainage, and agronomic challenges on all 3 holes. We explored a number of different alternatives and ultimately felt our plan preserves the best of the beloved 7th hole while significantly improving the quality of all 3 holes overall.
One missing piece at Settindown is a true "driveable" par 4 and the new configuration gives us an opportunity to bring that to life in the new 7th that will play anywhere from 205 to 319 yards. We felt that certain match play implications could come into play on this hole and that if the nines were reversed, it would come into play as the sixteenth hole, something very intriguing. With that said, we have multiple options off the new Hole #7 tee, where the golfer can play up the left side, short right or long right depending on that day's pin position. Of course, if you’re bold enough, you can go for the green as well. The fairway will host a few hazards to avoid (bunkers) and will have a major false front to the right that will shed balls and could create a bit of havoc on this short but thoughtful hole. There will be a flatter neck to run the ball into the green either off the tee or from the fairway. The punchbowl-like green will feature some movement and exacting flagstick locations with some very subtle ridges and waves in the green.”

Wonderful weather was on tap for the 2024 Town & Country Member Guest, as over 60 members and their guests enjoyed two days of great golf and wonderful camaraderie.
Wednesday May 1 featured a 9-Hole Step-Aside Shotgun Scramble. In addition to the Scramble, participants enjoyed several fun games during the round, including a "Goofy Golf" putting contest prior to playing Hole #1, a “Buy the Drive” on #7 which allowed teams to use Jacob Tilton’s drive as their first ball, and a “Beat the Pro” where players to tried to beat Liam Mitchell’s drive on #9. After golf, a delicious buffet dinner was served on the City View Terrace where winners of the Scramble and Putting Contest were announced.
Thursday, May 2 found the participants at the Settindown Creek course for an 18-Hole Stableford format tournament. On course, there was a Longest Drive on #10, a Straightest Drive on #6 and two Closest to the Pin contests on #7 and #17. After golf, participants were treated to a delicious luncheon, along with the announcement of the winners and several raffle drawings. Special thanks to our fabulous event chairs, Chrissy Martin and Helen Lloyd, who ran a hugely successful (SOLD-OUT) event. Thanks also to the Ansley and Settindown golf and clubhouse staff for providing such an excellent experience.

Pool Etiquette
Respecting the Club’s facilities and ensuring that all children behave in a manner that does not disrupt the experience of other members should be top of mind throughout our membership. Members are solely responsible and accountable for the actions of their children while on AGC property. Please keep in mind that damage to club property will be the monetary responsibility of the member's family and charges for repairs will be billed to those responsible for the damage. Also, please note trash and towel receptacles have been placed throughout the pool deck and we ask everyone to assist us in keeping our property neat and clean.
Swim Wear: Pool attire must be appropriate for a family-friendly venue. Thongs, Brazilian and string bikini bathing suits, and bottoms are not permitted. Speedo-type trunks should only be worn for competitive swimming or fitness. Aquatic supervisory personnel will be responsible for enforcement of this rule based on their discretion. The member or guest found wearing inappropriate swim attire will be asked to cover up and/or receive an email as warning.
Nursing: Only permitted under the closed cabanas on the pool deck or with appropriate nursing cover.
Diaper Changing: Changing tables for infants are provided in each pool restroom. Changing clothes or diapers is prohibited on the pool deck. Please reference page 22 for our Swim Diaper Policy.
Supervision of Children Reminder
Members must ensure that their children conduct themselves in an appropriate manner while on Club premises. Unruly behavior disrupts the enjoyment of the Club by other members and will not be tolerated. Members shall be subject to fines or other penalties, including suspension or expulsion if in violation of these policies. Children under the age of twelve (12) must be supervised when they are on Ansley or Settindown premises. “Supervised” means that the parent, or responsible adult attending children under age twelve (12), are to have the children in their presence and under their immediate control. In all dining venues, children under the age of twelve (12) must be seated at the same table as their parents or the supervisory adult.
Bar Seating
We would like to remind all members that GA Law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from sitting at the bar. This includes the Pavilion Bar, Ansley Room Bar and 1912 Lounge Bar. Thank you kindly for your understanding and support.
Dress Code Reminder
Club Casual Attire: Attire, which is commonly known as business casual, including dress denim, Bermuda length golf shorts, and athletic style fashionable shoes. Items not considered club casual attire include cut off shorts, denim shorts, printed t-shirts, athletic collarless shirts, athletic shorts, and cargo shorts.
Pool Cover-Up Attire: Dry, long bathing suit trunks with dry tops for men and dry bathing suits with dry, nontransparent cover-up for women. Shoes/flip flops are always required indoors. Shorts must be worn over men's speedo style bathing suits.
Hats & Visors: When permitted, golf-style hats and visors must be worn with the bill facing forward.
2024 Ansley Pool Rules
All members and guests must sign in with the gate attendant when visiting the pool. Please remember to drop all towels in the towel bins located on the pool deck.
The Approved Swimmer List
• All swimmers 10 and under must be on the Approved Swimmer list to be inside the pool gates without a wrist band on.
• Swimmers that are not on the Approved Swimmer List along with at least one parent will be issued a wrist band and are required to wear them until exiting the pool area.
• If the non-approved swimmer is in the pool, parents or guardians must be within arm’s reach and submerged in the pool with the child, simply sitting on the side of the pool or on the edge is not permitted. Being in arms reach of non-approved swimmers also extents to the pool deck. Non-approved swimmers are not permitted to roam the deck unaccompanied. Swimmers who are not on the Approved Swimmer List are not permitted to jump off the diving board.
• Children may test with an authorized Athletics Staff member to be added on the Approved Swimmer List.
Age Requirements
• Children four (4) and under in age may only use the main pool if under the direct supervision of an adult.
• Children four (4) and under in age or less than 45” in height may use the baby pool and must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
• Children ages six (6) and under must be accompanied by a supervising parent or chaperone that is at least sixteen (16) years old.
• Children ages seven (7), eight (8), and nine (9) must be accompanied by a supervising parent or chaperone who is at least thirteen (13) years old.
• Children ages ten (10) and eleven (11) may use the pool facility unaccompanied by an adult as long as they are on the Approved Swimmer List and the parent or supervisory adult is on the property.
• Children ages twelve (12) and over may use the pool unaccompanied by an adult.
• Children ages sixteen (16) and under may not be under the cabanas without an adult.
• Unaccompanied children will lose their unaccompanied swimming privileges if they become disruptive or engage in inappropriate conduct.
Swim Diaper Policy
All children, even those that are potty trained, 3 and under are REQUIRED to wear an approved swim diaper while on the pool deck. Approved swim diapers must have elastic at both the legs and waist and fit snug against the child’s body. DO NOT have your child wear any additional materials under the swim diaper. Wearing an additional diaper underneath can increase the risk of an accident. Only children wearing an approved swim diaper will be given a wrist band to show that they are approved to swim. Diapers and wrist bands can be found in the Towel Shop. Cameras are updated every year; we enforce the $500 - $1,000 fine for any incidents that occur in either the baby pool or main pool.
