A NOTE FROM STEVE MALOOF GROUNDS CHAIRMAN
I am happy to be back on the Board of Directors after a short hiatus and am honored to once again serve as Grounds Committee Chair, a role I previously held from 2008-2012. Once a year — when it is my time to write the article for the Ansleygram — I think it is important to take a moment to remind ourselves how lucky we are to be members of Ansley Golf Club, and what a privilege it is to play (and enjoy!) our two spectacularly conditioned golf courses.
It is with great pride that we acknowledge the tireless efforts of our agronomy staff in maintaining these courses to the highest standards.
Our teams at both Ansley and Settindown Creek — led by Superintendents Dan Gondek and Caleb Cochran, respectively — work diligently behind the scenes, rain or shine, to ensure that our courses remain in impeccable condition. Their dedication to detail and passion for their craft are evident in every aspect of the course, from greens that run 12.3 on the stimpmeter during our Member-Guest, to beautifully striped fairways that are regularly in as good condition as any club in Atlanta. We should all extend our sincerest gratitude to these hardworking individuals for their invaluable contribution to our golfing experience. In addition, Courtney Young has been Director of Agronomy for 36 years and has established a culture of greatness that has resulted in outstanding year-round conditions and nearly impossible expectations… we are spoiled and should be thankful!
However, as members of Ansley Golf Club, it is incumbent upon each of us to play our part in preserving the excellence of our courses. Simple tasks such as raking bunkers, fixing ball marks, filling divots and going the extra mile to pick up trash are essential in maintaining the integrity and beauty of our beloved courses. Lately it seems we have not been doing our part, as evidenced by cigarette and cigar butts thrown on the course, unraked footprints in bunkers and broken tees left scattered about the tee boxes, to name a few. By collectively embracing these responsibilities, we don’t just demonstrate our respect for the hard work of our agronomy staff, but we contribute to the overall enjoyment of the game for all members. And by not doing our part we do just the opposite.
The recent success of The Bull, our Member-Guest tournament, is a testament to the caliber of our facilities and the unparalleled experience offered at our club. We have received rave reviews from participants, praising not only the quality of the courses but also the professionalism and hospitality of our staff. It is moments like these that remind us of the exceptional reputation that Ansley Golf Club holds within the Atlanta club community.
However, it is essential to remember that being a member of Ansley is a privilege, not a right. As members, we ALL have a responsibility to uphold the standards of excellence that define the Ansley Experience. This extends beyond the golf course to encompass all aspects of club life, including respect for fellow members, adherence to club rules, and active participation in club events and initiatives. This is, OUR club, and we are all responsible for it.
In conclusion, let us reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence at Ansley Golf Club. By working together to maintain our courses and uphold the values of our club, we can ensure that Ansley remains the premier club in Atlanta. Thank you to our agronomy staff for their hard work and dedication, and thank you to all members for your continued support in helping make Ansley the best it can be.
See you around the Club sometime!
Steve Maloof

Featuring Hole #8
Each month until we begin the Settindown renovation, we will preview a hole and Tyler Rae will share his thoughts behind the design of that hole.
“The new Hole #8 will feature the exact same green complex as current Hole #7 with the same angles, shapes, and contours leading up to and surrounding the green. We will slightly enhance and increase the width of the left bunker so that it doesn’t play as penal as the current iteration as bunkers shrink over time and that has previously been an issue for that bunker. We also will have a slight downhill shot from the teeing ground vs the current flat approach shot. This will be the greatest change, but we feel like the new backdrop of water on Hole #10 and the views across the golf course will give the hole more of an aesthetically pleasing look, while feeling a bit more intimidating. Lastly, the green will be GPS scanned and replicated identically so that we keep one of our favorite holes on property as close to Bob Cupp’s vision as possible.”

Welcome New Members

Ryan Hebert and his wife, Tara, both moved to Atlanta post-graduation from Louisiana State University and Auburn University. After meeting through mutual friends in Brookhaven, they married on New Year's Eve in New Orleans and laid roots in the Highlands, first on Amsterdam and now in Noble Park. While on Amsterdam, they completed their family with daughters Minnie-Claire, born in 2016, and Francis, born in 2019. Ryan is currently the BISO for the NYSE, Fixed Income, and Data Services businesses at ICE, and Tara just accepted a new position as the Southeast Director of Sales for Encore. As a family, they love traveling. It is their goal to visit two states a year, hitting unique spots only those states have to offer.

Bridget and Lee Massengill, their son Aiden (6 years), and their daughter Collins (1 year) are excited to be new members at Ansley. Lee is an Atlanta native, while Bridget grew up in Pittsburgh. They met through mutual friends in Atlanta 19 years ago and have been married since 2012. Lee is a Strategic Account Manager at Pager Duty, a software company based out of San Francisco, and Bridget is a Vice President at Leapley Construction, a commercial general contractor. Their son Aiden goes to Sarah Smith, and loves all things sports, especially baseball. Their daughter Collins will be attending Suzuki School in the fall and is currently mastering walking. They are delighted to be a part of the community and look forward to making new memories at Ansley.

Hampton Dykes, son of Keith and Shannon Dykes, is excited to expand the family legacy with Ansley Golf Club. He is a Graduate of the University of Georgia and is currently employed in commercial real estate at CBRE. He and his fiancé, Logue Shamburger, look forward to spending time at the pool this summer and playing golf, tennis and pickleball.

For being such a famous region, it only produces about 3% of all French wines; however, there is a separate classification system just for these wines. Summer Parent-Child Tournament
This is a fantastic way to involve parents in the 2024 Ansley Junior Program. Juniors will be broken into age groups to determine their tees. Parents play from assigned tees as well. All teams are handicapped using estimated handicaps for the juniors. Cookouts will be served prior to the tournament and an awards ceremony will follow play. To assist with pace of play for the event, one parent will play with one child. To accommodate households with multiple children, we encourage both parents to play. If both parents cannot play, grandparents or extended family are encouraged to participate with our juniors.
