CS - Access Control Market Trends 2015

Page 1

A new level of freedom.

Because nobody likes to be restricted, Axis is leading the industry with a new level of freedom for physical access control. Freedom that stems from the same open IP philosophy we pioneered in video surveillance.

When it comes to access control – we mean business. So, what’s so special about our solution?

Our AXIS A1001 Network Door Controller is the first non-proprietary and open IP-based access controller on the market. Because our products are based on an open architecture platform, you not only get freedom of choice but also freedom of installation and location. A PoE supported controller at each door eliminates the need for separate power cables for door equipment such as locks and readers – allowing you to have your installation done above the door and create a more aesthetic setting to fit your customer’s needs.

Traditional proprietary systems meant limited options, central servers with complex cabling, as well as restricted possibilities for integration and scalability. AXIS A1001 has an open interface that enables integration with other sys-

tems, such as intrusion detection, heating and HR systems.

AXIS A1001 can also integrate with other Axis software solutions – including AXIS Camera Station 4.0 and AXIS Camera Companion – for simple, event-triggered video integration.

The controller’s color coded connectors and the configuration wizard enables fail-safe and effective installations. The controller supports most reader types and is fitted with configurable input/output ports and controllable power outputs for external equipment such as door locks and positioning sensors.

AXIS A1001 comes with built-in software for basic access management. It’s also open for third-party software, allowing the unit to be integrated with solutions provided by Axis partners. With the largest partner network in the industry, you have

the possibility to integrate with large variety of new technology. Our aim is simple. We’re committed to helping you build a simpler, smarter physical access control system to meet your customers’ needs today and what they will need in the future What are you waiting for? Open the door to the future.

THE EVOLUTION OF ACCESS CONTROL

Consider the Possibilities

The biggest and most complex challenges in the security management and building management landscape today relate to direction and strategy. For the most part, we are long past the decision of whether guards, technology and threat risk assessments are needed for security. Instead, the focus has shifted to more granular questions, such as: How do I maximize my return on security investment? How can I best audit my site? Are my security plans up to date? What are the current best practices for the site or environment that I am managing?

When it comes specifically to security technology, the questions are no easier. Clients want to know how much longer their current systems will last. They worry that their access control systems may no longer be user friendly. The frequency of calls to the supplier is increasing, even on simple tasks like changing the schedule or overriding a door control. And everyone is concerned about whether “rip and replace” is the only way to upgrade the system. There are options - how do you uncover them?

The security integrator of choice should be able to bring to the table an entire toolbox of security products. With a truly integrated solution, a client can realize a better return on investment for their security spend, not just to satisfy procurement protocols, but more broadly with respect to the security posture at any given site.

Additionally, the legislative and regulatory landscape in relation to security is everevolving. Best business practices come from many industries and are often driven out of other countries. Your integrator needs the depth and breadth to bring a range of resources to the table. And, just as importantly, they need to be asked to do it. A candid discussion with your security integrator will open up many possibilities.

Integrators need to be challenged. There are so many times when just having a meeting or a conversation without listening to a sales pitch benefits both the client and the integrator. Being upfront with the integrator about your vision, your needs and your goals tells them that you aren’t interested in hearing a canned pitch. What you want is an integrator to act as a consultant and guide you through the process of finding the solution that works.

Consider the possibilities that open up when you talk to your integrator about video and access control solutions that work together. The synergies (infrastructure costs, manpower utilization, training) can save both time and money and provide you with a robust and powerful solution at minimal incremental costs. Or, to take another example, what if you had a conversation with your security provider that did not focus on lowering your guard costs and reducing hours but instead on the entirety of your security spend. Let the integrator come back with suggestions and alternatives, and ways to add value to the relationship. If your integrator can’t -- that speaks volumes.

Property Managers, Security Directors, VicePresidents of Operations, and many others are finding that the security landscape is becoming ever-more complex. Security providers like G4S are being asked to provide strategies that move our clients’ security posture forward while respecting the current security spend. We encourage our clients to take the time to discuss their short-, medium- and long-term requirements with their security integrator of choice.
