OTTHONKA / ELŐSZÓ

Idén tavasszal új fogalmakat kellett megtanulnunk és egyik napról a másikra szinte mindannyiunk számára ezek mentén kezdett szerveződni az élet: önkéntes karantén, home office, közösségi távolságtartás.

Sokaknak közös emberi tapasztalatot hozott magával a világszinten egyre terjedő járvány: lecsökkent életteret és produktivitást, gazdasági problémákat, a megszokottnál jóval lassabb életet, valamint a társas érintkezések néhol teljes hiányát, többeknek az ebből fakadó előnyök szinte teljes elvesztését. Az új „normális” időszakát az első sokk után mindenki máshogy igyekezett átvészelni. Hiszen milyen otthon lenni amikor otthon kell lenni? Milyen megélni, hogy a biztonság a szabad választás elvesztésével jár és a mindennapi bezártság otthonunkba, ebbe az intim börtönbe, lesz a normális?

Herbert Aniko esetében a szabadság ideiglenes megcsorbulása alkotásra való lehetőséget és inspirációt is hozott, az otthonról történő munka mellett születtek legújabb művei. Egy nő, a szobában.

Nő a fürdőben. Nő, a gondolatai közé merülve. Olvasó nő. Figyelő nő.

Herbert Otthonka címet viselő kollázs sorozatának leíró, fantázia címei is lehetnének az imént felsorolt egyszerű állítások. A művészre jellemző stílusban megvalósított új kollázs sorozat darabjai az otthon töltött napok megfigyeléseiből és apró élményeiből táplálkoznak: kényszerű egyedüllétből, a belső folyamatok és a közvetlen környezet megfigyeléséből, a párna ráncainak látványából, a fény lomha mozgásából a parkettán, vagy épp a finom papírra írt bevásárlólista betűiből.

A Herbert képein megjelenő arctalan nőalak – jól felismerhetően a művész alteregója – egyszerre van jelen állandó életterében, ugyanakkor a képeken vissza-visszatér és hangsúlyosan megjelenik a vágyott, szeretett természeti tér is. Alkotásain a hajukkal foglalatoskodó vagy csendben üldögélő papirvékony nőalakok, akik időnként Ingres fürdő nőire emlékeztetnek – Herbert érzékeny, finom önarcképei.

Herbert élvezi az elmélyülést otthonában, környezete maga által teremtett menedék. Saját világát, otthonkáját számára kedves tárgyak, virágok, természeti kincsek, könyvek gyűjteménye alkotja – ez személyes kunstkammere. Ez a miniatűr múzeum jelenik meg képein is, olykor felnagyítva, mint környezet, hangsúlyozva a természet és művészet közti kapcsolatot. Herbert alakja, tárgyai magától értetődően kerültek egymás mellé, összetartoznak – az így kialakított kozmoszban könnyed az átjárás belső tér és a természeti tájak között. Utóbbiak a művész képzeletében már-már végtelenre nőnek. Papírkivágásokból, fényképekből, apró tárgyakból összeállitott kollázsai szemlélőjét e személyes terekbe vezeti el, miközben valójában lelkébe, gazdag belső univerzumába enged betekintést.

Az alkotás ebben az időszakban nem csupán időtöltés, terápia is – egy különleges tavasz lenyomata, amit a világon szinte mindenki szobákban ülve töltött el és az ablakán át szemlélt. Herbert elmélyülésre használja az így kapott időt, önvizsgálatra és fejlődésre törekszik az alkotás segítségével – mely során csendet és nyugalmat tapasztal, egyfajta biztonságos magányt.

Ebben a vizuális karantén- naplóban Herbert nem gondolatait írja le, hanem papírönarcképeivel vizuálisan rögzíti azokat a lelki állapotokat, melyeket a kényszer szülte fogságban megtapasztal. Herbert szavaival élve az Otthonka sorozat „A szabadság redukált megélése: „Menj ki bent!”- Alkotásait szemlélve mi is megvizsgálhatjuk, hogyan változtunk ezalatt a rövid, de meghatározó idő alatt? Maradt e rajtunk nyoma a bezárva töltött időnek? Észrevettük e kik vagyunk, illetve hogy valóban be voltunk e zárva önmagunkkal?

LITTLE HOME / FOREWORD

This spring we had to learn some new concepts and from one day to the next almost all of us had to start organizing our lives in terms of them: like voluntary quarantine, home office, and social distancing.

The global pandemic brought about a common human experience for many of us: reduced mobility and productivity, economic problems, a significantly slower pace of life, plus in certain places the total lack of social interactions and for many almost the total loss of the benefits provided by those interactions. After the first shock everyone tried to weather the period of the new “normal” in their own way. For what is it like to be at home when you have to be at home? What is it like to experience when safety trumps freedom of choice, and being shut in at home, into that intimate prison, becomes the norm?

For Herbert Aniko the temporary constraint on freedom meant an opportunity for creativity and inspiration as well. Her newest works emerged during home office time. A Woman in a room. Woman in a bath.

A woman lost in thought. A reading woman. A woman watching. Indeed, these simple phrases could very well be the descriptive, fancy names of the pieces in Herbert’s new collage-series titled Otthonka [little home].

True to form, the substance and essence of the series derive from Herbert’s observations and subtler experiences at home: inevitable solitude, the observation of inner processes as well as of the immediate environment, the sight of wrinkles on the pillowcase, the dawdling play of light on the floor, or the delicate shapes of the letters on a grocery list.

The faceless female figure that appears on Herbert’s pictures -recognizably her own alter ego - is presented at once in her everyday living space and at the same time in the desired and beloved natural milieu that also returns and is emphatically portrayed in her pictures.

The paper - thin figures in the pictures playing with their hair or silently sitting - reminiscent here and there of Ingres’ women- are Herbert’s own sensual self-portraits.

Herbert enjoys the meditative exercise in her home; her environment becomes a shelter of her own design. Her own world - her little home - contains beloved objects, flowers, organic artifacts, books. This is her personal Kunstkammer. This miniature museum is what appears in her pictures as well, amplified at times like nature, emphasizing the relationship between nature and art. Herbert’s figure and her objects are juxtaposed organically - they belong together. And the cosmos thus conjured yields an easy passage between inner and natural landscapes.

The latter, in fact, almost expand to infinity in the artist’s imagination.

The collages composed of paper cuts, photographs, and smaller objects lead the viewer into these personal spaces while also offering a glimpse into her soul and her rich inner universe.

At a time like this, creation serves not only as a pastime activity but as therapy too - in the face of a peculiar spring that almost everyone spent sitting in rooms, and watching it pass through their window. Herbert uses the time to go deep and with the help of the creative process to further her own self-examination and self-development- during which she experiences stillness and tranquility, a form of safe solitude.

In this visual quarantine-diary Herbert is not writing down her thoughts but rather visually records those states of mind that she experiences during the unintended confinement. In Herbert’s words the Otthonka series is ‘’the reduced experience of freedom: where you must ‘go out inside!’” Looking at her works helps us examine how we changed during this short but defining period. Did the time spent in the confinement of our home leave any noticeable trace on us? Did we realize who we actually are, or were we at all locked in with ourselves?

HIDEG / Gyerekkorodban azt mondták neked, hogy odakint nem történik semmi izgalmas.

Azt is mondták, hogy odakint hideg van.

Mégis a házak tűnnek olyan egyformának, mint egy jégkockatartó rekeszei.

Keveset beszél hozzád.

Ha újra gyerek lennél, nem lenne esélyed megtanulni beszélni.

Tudomásul kellett venned, hogy ő nem akarja megmenteni a világot.

Az özönvíz előtt csak az elefántokat, teheneket, tyúkokat terelte volna fel a bárkára, azokat az állatokat, amikhez a nőket szokták hasonlítani, ha meg akarják őket alázni.

Téged sem védett meg soha, mindig azt mondta, a te hibád, ha kihívó vagy, majd hozzátette, Japánban például nemrég több tízezer nyíló rózsa fejét vágták le, különben az emberek megszegték volna miattuk a karantén szabályait, és kimentek volna fényképezni őket.

Ma már tudod, hogy nem kell félned attól, amiket mondott, hogy nem sikerül, amit terveztél, és ha rövid szoknyát veszel, meg fognak támadni.

/ OTTHONKA

Az Otthonka alapötletét nem más,mint az élet adta. Kínában történt valami denevérekkel és kígyókkal. Azután az idő elkezdte a papírt átitatni és eláztatni.

Maradj otthonka.

Az első home office napomon támadt egy ötletem. Pár éve készítettem kollázsokat egy másik kiállításhoz: Jünnan kínai tartomány kormányzója, Cuj Pen kertjét. Mert ugye minden Kínában kezdődött és csak tiszta forrásból.

Az új sorozat képeiben saját magam jelenítem meg vékony rizspapírból kivágva, sokszor meztelenül és a tér válik fontossá. A bezártság tere, de ez nem olyan rosszféle bezártság,ami előhozza a sötét dolgokat,hanem ami felfedi a bennünk rejtőző lehetőségeket és harmóniát ad. Milyen végtelenül szép, tágas és színes lenne mindenkinek a belső tere a bizalom kizárólagos útján, a félelmet elfelejtő álomban: a távolságban visszataláltunk egymáshoz.

/ LITTLE HOME The idea for Little Home comes from life itself. Something happened with bats and snakes in China. And then time soaked and saturated the paper. Now you stay at Little Home.

On my first day at the home office, I had an idea. A few years ago I made collages for another exhibition: about the garden of Cuj Pen the governor of the Chinese province Jünnan. Given that everything started in China and only from a clean source.

In the images of the new series, I show myself cut out from thin rice paper many times naked but it is the space that becomes most important—the space of isolation. And not the bad kind of isolation which brings out the dark things: on the contrary, the kind that discloses the possibilities inherent in us and that facilitates harmony. Indeed: how immensely beautiful and wide and colorful could everyone’s inner space become through trust, in the dream that forgets the fear—where through distance we find each other again.

The title is Little Home because it sounds nice and somehow lightens things up a bit. It doesn’t refer to a piece of clothing [house frock] but to the idea of spatial confinement—to the reduced experience of freedom. ’’Go out inside!’’

Little home entraps you.

Little home is the highest level of freedom.

Little home is immortal.

Little home is a condition.

Little home is a state of mind.
