Staple Pieces By Madeline Garcia and Ryan Hernandez

Staple pieces function as the core pieces all outfits encompass. These pieces should be the first you invest in as you expand your wardrobe. With these pieces, you will be able to create infinitely more outfits which work seamlessly together. Here are our thoughts on the pieces you should invest in for this winter.

11︱M Mag

In the last issue, we touched base on the fall staple pieces we thought you needed. For winter, many of the pieces are the same, except more layering and warm pieces are suggested. Some of these include turtlenecks, jackets or coats, and warmer pants. Now, we’ll give you some ideas on how to style these pieces!

Long-Sleeve Tops

Top and Shoes from The Crowned Bird Pants from The Crowned Bird

12︱M Mag

Keep yourself warm by dressing up your long sleeve or keeping it casual! Different long-sleeves include turtlenecks, sweaters, and button-downs.

Coats & Jackets

Coats and jackets are essentials this winter, keeping you both warm and in style.

Sebastian is wearing a brown colored coat which complements his choice of an allblack outfit.

Lyla is wearing green corduroy pants with a neutral beige suede jacket. This highlights the combination of a neutral tone acting as balance with an added burst of color underneath, elevating her simple outfit and keeping her warm. 13︱M Mag

Cardigans & Sweaters

Cardigans and sweaters are always staple pieces to have in your wardrobe for winter. Make sure you invest too!

Bottoms

This season make sure you have enough pants, skirts, or more to keep you warm and stylish. We think having a pair of colorful bottoms helps pair well as a statement piece. 14︱M Mag

Now that you know what we think you should invest in for staple pieces this winter, try it out! Add on to your fall staple pieces and allow more cohesive outfits to flow from your wardrobe. 15︱M Mag

How to Dress Affordably

By Danette Hidalgo and Charlotte Browder

Winter fashion is something that people spend millions on every year. However, considering the sustainability of these purchases, alternative and costeffective solutions are readily available to help you turn heads this coming season. To start with, we’re covering one of the most costeffective ways to get a winter wardrobe: thrifting. Thrift shops can be found far and wide across Midland, Odessa, and neighboring counties. From The Cat’s Meow, with their beautiful vintage pieces, to Salvation Army, with their constant cycle of fresh clothing, these thrift shops are often locally-owned, so not only do you get a conversation-starting new wardrobe, you support local businesses, families, and or charities in the process! In addition to the physical shops, there are also thousands of resale and thrifting apps to be found online such as Depop, Etsy, eBay, and Mercari for anything from a Space Jam letterman to a string of vintage pearls. 16︱M Mag

Speaking of vintage, let’s talk hand-me-downs. These recycled clothes typically get a bad rep, being described as unwanted or discarded pieces of old clothing. However, there are often gems waiting amid those haystacks of lace and linens. Asking around with relatives is a great way to both experience and learn about the clothes and accessories you find, often for little to no price! So, with that $20 in your pocket, you can make an informed decision on whether you show off a new set of earrings or a thrifted vintage coat this coming season! Have a happy holiday and remember, it shouldn't cost a week's wages to make a statement!

The Power of Accessories By Elizabeth Garcia and Mia Pressler

Accessories are a way to incorporate your personality traits into your wardrobe. Certain winter accessories, such as headbands, leg warmers, tights, beanies, and more, can help elevate and distinguish your look. Adding accessories is a tool anyone can use to make or break an outfit.

Bags

Bags are a current closet essential. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, tote bags or satchels help combine utility and style.

19︱M Mag

Jewelry

Patterned Tights Tights are both practical and stylish during this cold winter season. Pairing tights with a skirt or dress is a good way to stay warm and be fashionable. Using patterned tights is a way to give a boring item more charm. 20︱M Mag

Jewelry is a perfect way to incorporate personality into your look. This can be achieved by wearing fun and colorful bracelets, necklaces, and chunky rings. Do not be afraid to have fun when adding accessories.

Leg warmers Winter is the perfect season to incorporate layering, keeping you both stylish and warm. Try legwarmers out these next few months!

Beanies & Berets

Beanies and berets are perfect for windy days that would otherwise mess up your hair. Use these pieces to further the aesthetic that you are trying to showcase.

Headbands

Headbands are making a comeback! Whether trying to look preppy, chic, or classy, headbands will help.

Nails

Who says nails cannot be an accessory! Minimal and negative space designs are trendy this year. On the next page, our resident nail expert gives tips about doing your own nails. Try it out! 21︱M Mag

Nails! By Merit Gamertsfelder

Step 1: Shape Clip 90% and file 10%! Take your clippers and slowly cut the shape that you want, then file to clean up the edges.

Tips: -The day before: take a hot shower with no polish on. Once you’re done push back your loosened cuticles. -Reapply topcoat on day 2 or 3, making your nails look new again with some added protection. -Don’t beat yourself up! Practice makes perfect and the more you practice the easier it’ll get. No one looks at your nails as closely or as often as you do.

Step 2: Buff I recommend using a block, it’s easier than clippers. Gently buff in little circles around your nail bed. Take nail polish remover and clean up all the little dust particles on your nails. Step 3: Paint Take your polish and wipe off one side into your bottle. Start from the base of your nail and slowly bring it towards the tip. The first coat will be thin and streaky – don’t worry, once it dries go over it again with a slightly thicker coat. Depending on how opaque the polish is, 2-3 coats should be enough. Step 4: Topcoat & Care Once the paint completely dries, go over with a coat of topcoat. This will ensure your nails are protected from minor chips. 22︱M Mag

Ugly Christmas Sweaters By Emoni Jones

Ugly Christmas Sweaters have been an annual holiday tradition since their first noticeable appearance in the 50s. What was first known as “Jingle Bell Sweaters,” featured discrete Christmas decorations. They were not originally considered ugly and were meant to be joyful and artistic. Ugly Christmas sweaters were extremely low profile until the 80s, when they became popular on television. You can honor this fun holiday tradition by finding the boldest Christmas sweater! National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is on December 21! Don’t be scared to participate and wear a sweater that jingles, lights up, or has 3D pom poms. Ugly sweaters will continue to be a timeless tradition that keeps the holiday spirit alive. 33︱M Mag
