A Letter from the Editor Hello, and welcome to the summer issue of M Magazine! For those of you who have just begun reading, my name is Alyssa Diaz, and I am the creator and editor of M Magazine. I have been so blessed this year to have been given the opportunity to create something centered around my passions. I have learned countless lessons and experienced so many wonderful friendships and partnerships as a result. I am infinitely thankful to every person who made such a thing possible; my life and the opportunities in reach are forever changed. This summer issue centers around staples and trends for the heat, college guides for our graduating class, and the importance of sunscreen. Summer Staples tanks With this hot weather, tanks are always important to have. These pieces are simple but including splashes of color livens up any piece. Grab a neutral tank top like white, grey, or black, then pair it with bright colored bottoms such as a lilac, orange, or sky blue.
Oversized t-shirts Oversized t-shirts are perfect to pair with shorts to stay comfortable. If you want to upgrade your look, try pairing an oversized t-shirt with biker shorts and simple tennis shoes to achieve a simple, stylish look.
BikeR shorts Biker shorts are form-fitting shorts that can be styled up or styled down depending on the occasion, making them the perfect piece this summer. 8︱M MAG
Casual T-shirts Casual t-shirts can range from a solid tee to one with a design. What makes the piece casual is how you decide to style it. If you are going for a laid-back look, try pairing your shirt with straight cut jeans or your favorite pair of denim jeans. Then, you’re ready to go!
Denim shorts Denim shorts make for the perfect pairing with any summer top. They’re comfortable and cool for the summer, making them an essential staple. Make sure to invest in quality pairs!

Matching sets! Not only are matching sets currently trendy, but they also make it super simple to put an outfit together. A lot of people struggle when they are first discovering their personal style. They feel they can’t put an outfit together because a good outfit must be complicated. However, with matching sets acting as the focal point of your outfit, there is less stress on what becomes your accessories.

Let’s Talk Flattering Sets…
Everyone’s views of what flatters their body differs and should only be determined by themselves. All of us have certain features we like to showcase more than others. When you are dressing to flatter your body, the goal is to accentuate these certain features. For example, someone who has long legs may reach for skirts or shorts to show off their legs. On the other hand, if you are on the shorter side and want to appear taller, you might reach for flare jeans, a skirt that sits above the knees, high rise pants, or a shorter top. So, just remember to keep in mind while shopping that something is flattering when it makes you feel confident and highlights the parts of you that you love. 18︱M MAG
What’s Trending Now… At the current moment, street and casual wear are huge! This summer we are seeing lots of matching sweat and workout sets. These outfits are perfect for grocery store runs and outings with friends. For more formal options, we see simple cropped tops with matching flowy bottoms. This summer, you can also expect to see matching swim sets at the pool or on your beach vacation!

After a year of trying new trends, you may have forgotten how to style your favorite sundress. Don’t worry! With our style tips, we got you covered from head to toe! Here our model Mia has paired her sundress with beaded jade bracelets to make her dress pop.

The first accessory to always keep in mind when styling a sundress is jewelry! Adding statement necklaces and bracelets can help you make a color more prominent on your outfit or make the dress pop by adding some shine.

With the summer season in reach, everyone’s favorite accessory becomes a must-have for everyday life. With all the excitement of buying new shades, the question that comes to mind is what style fits your face shape best. Let’s find out!

If you have a round or square face, shapes such as wayfarers or sunglasses with rectangular, rounded bottoms, and square frames will tend to suit you best. These frames look most like the top or bottom sunnies!
Oval and heartshaped faces are best suited by styles such as aviators or roundframed sunglasses. The middle sunglasses fit this style best. 30︱M MAG
Cat eye sunglasses tend to suit squareshaped faces best. An example of this shape is the second and fourth glasses to the right. If you have a diamond-shaped face, oval designs with strong brows will compliment you best! This style looks most like the first pair to the left.

Instead of buying brand new decorations for your dorm, check out your local antique or thrift store. You can buy vinyls, picture frames, and even cool posters to hang on your For those of you who are more artistically walls! inclined, be creative and paint a few canvases or revamp a piece of furniture you already have. Remember, this is your space, and you get to decide however you wish to express yourself. Have fun and save that money! 34︱M MAG
When packing for college, it’s important to remember to pack lightly. Most times, you will overpack and end up forgetting to use half of what you packed. So, let’s talk about what you should and shouldn’t bring.
Do bring: o Staple pieces that can pair nicely! You have a limited closet in a dorm, so don’t overpack clothes you know you won’t wear often. If you pack lots of neutral pieces that blend, you’ll be able to put more outfits together. o Practical shoes! You walk everywhere on big campuses. You want to be able to make sure you have comfortable shoes for your walks. o Bath products that don’t take up too much space! Chances are, you will be sharing a bathroom with others. You want to make sure your bath products are carriable, especially if you must use a community shower and store them in your own room. o Cleaning supplies! Your dorm will get crowded and dirty more quickly than you imagine. Make sure you bring cleaning supplies so that you can clean up your messes when they happen, especially if you have a roommate. o Medicines you need! It’s important to remember your prescriptions when you move. Make sure you bring cold and flu medicine so in the event you are sick, you don’t have to run to the store. o Insurance, security, and registration cards! You start over when you go to college and will often need these extra safety measures to prove your identity. Don’t forget! o A toolkit! Things break often and you don’t want to be left without any way to fix them. If you’re decorating, you probably will end up needing this anyway. o 2nd sets of your necessities! If you’re moving, make sure you bring a second set of things like your keys and chargers in case you forget or it’s an emergency. 35︱M MAG
Don’t bring:
o Excess clothing and shoes! Most times, you will be dressing for comfort over style on campus. Don’t bring extra clothes and shoes you know you probably won’t wear. Make sure you do keep some nicer, dressier options for occasions, but don’t overdo it. You’ll end up shopping and buying clothes during your time there! o Bulky furniture! You have limited space as it is, and most dorms come pre-furnished. Don’t bring furniture that will make your space more crowded than it already is. o Lots of kitchen appliances! Most students end up with meal plans or without kitchens. You also will go out to eat at events or with friends! Don’t bring unnecessary gadgets that will only make more clutter. o Duplicates! Make sure you aren’t bringing a duplicate of something that your roommate may also bring. Talk beforehand to figure out who needs to bring what. Having two printers or irons isn’t necessary. o Bulky luggage! You are moving, but bulky luggage shouldn’t be brought. Buy collapsible luggage that will be easy to store in a closet or under a bed instead. Chances are you won’t need that luggage as often as you think you may! o Sentimental Items! Don’t bring items that are extremely valuable to you. If these items break or are stolen, you may be very upset. It’s better to miss something and know it’s safe than have it broken or damaged with you. o Too many sheets, towels, or pillows! You will always have the chance to buy something you forgot while you’re on campus. Don’t bring something you don’t have the storage spaces for. o High School Drama! This is a new chapter of your life. You’re able to start over and choose the person you want to become! Don’t let your past get in the way of this opportunity.
