Staple Basics

For spring, we recommend making sure you have plenty of plain tees, tanks, button up shirts, shorts, skirts, and a solid pairs of denim jeans. From there, you will be able to make endless outfits, especially if you’re sure to incorporate a statement piece with your basic pieces. Here, you can see all our models base their outfit off a staple piece. 9︱M MAG

Pastel Tones

Millennial pink, lemon, and baby blue are just some of the reoccurring pastel colors we’ve seen in spring clothing. Although these pastels were huge in the 80s, they are making a comeback this spring. Clothing with pastel tones help create simple and clean looks, which are perfect for this season.

Pastels are seen not only in casual attire, but in designer fashion as well. Kylie Jenner’s lavender look at the 2019 Met Gala and Rihanna’s vintage Chanel pastel coat for a night out are some iconic examples of pastels used in designer fashion. White Boots Originally designed by Balenciaga in the 1960s, white boots were a staple piece paired with dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits. Also known as “Go-Go Boots,” they have become widely popular and are making a comeback this spring.

Sheer Tops

Wearing sheer tops on top of shirts or long sleeves is a great way to add style and more flair to your outfit! 16︱M MAG

Fringe

Seen on dresses, miniskirts, and jacket sleeves, fringe is a versatile texture that can be worn on anything. Fringe became popular in the 1920’s on “flappers” dresses and became a staple in everyday clothing. This spring, expect to see fringe on clothing!

Knitwear Knit is perfect for any season and pairs with most clothing. Sweaters, cardigans, and more are all great ways to incorporate knit into your everyday style.

Checkered Print

Popular in the 90s, checkered clothing became a pattern in knitwear, plaid, and flannels. 17︱M MAG

The Blossoming History of Floral Designs .

By Townsend Beachum

Flowers are thought to be a beautiful and elegant gift from nature. Their vibrant colors and cheerful aromas capture our eyes with fascination. When flowers are mentioned, spring automatically comes to mind. The joy of wearing florals during this season has become a huge trend. With spring approaching, the history of floral designs in fashion made me wonder how the design first developed. Throughout centuries, florals have been worn from Asia to Europe mostly by the upper class. The reason for this was that the materials used to make floral designs were a luxury and highly expensive.

Floral clothing was mainly made from silk, which was only worn by nobles and royalty. The patterns have continued to trend in today’s age to inspire new looks and ideas in fashion. Floral fashion really made the scene in the 60s, with the term “Flower Power” being used to describe the patterns. Flash forward to today, and floral covers the runway each year. So, now that you know, don’t be afraid to participate!

Grad Guide By Audrey Low and Alyssa Diaz

Spring is a busy time for seniors. From last ceremonies to grad parties to graduation, there’s a lot going on! Outfits, however, we can help on. Here’s our picks for this spring!

These events tend to range from casual to dressy. For more casual events, such as grad parties, we recommend chic, flowy tops, skirts, and trousers. For more dressy events, such as graduation ceremonies, we recommend more formal dresses. Both looks pair well with light wedges, heels, sandals, or booties. Good luck this season! 22︱M MAG

How to: Styling Formal Wear By: Danette Hidalgo and Olivia Pester

Trying to dress down nice, dressy clothes can be hard sometimes. Maybe you don't know what shoes will go best with it or how to style a dress more casually. Dresses and nicer clothing can be hard to make casual, but here are some tips to make it happen! Here, our model, Elizabeth, paired her dress with some combat boots. This is a good way to dress down formal wear because the shoes act as the casual piece.

24︱M MAG

For guys wanting to dress down dress wear, sneakers are always the best option. Wearing a wide leg or straight pants and a nicer shirt always can be paired with vans, converse, or regular sneakers. These outfits always look nice and thought out, but casual. Our model, Olivia, has paired a nice yellow sundress with a pair of white sneakers and a white cardigan. The sneakers help dress down what would otherwise be formal.

Our model, Merit, is wearing a black dress that she has paired with a denim button up. The button up is more casual than the dress and helps being down the look. Denim is great in helping bring together casual looks! She has also put her hair up, which helps add to the effect. 25︱M MAG

Prom

By Madeline Garcia, Zacarias Olivas, and Elizabeth Aguilar

27︱M MAG

Prom is a stressful time in a young woman’s high school experience. Attempting to find the one and only dress, the perfect makeup style, and the extraordinary hairstyle is all overwhelming. Here we include some tips on how to shop for prom and look gorgeous while being on a budget.

First and foremost, hair and makeup can be made easy with simple aid. Instead of going the expensive route and going to a salon, maybe try requesting help from a friend, or you can look on YouTube for video tutorials. Makeup is something to have fun with, and allows you to be unique. One more resource that will help a lot is looking online for references. You will be stunning regardless! 28︱M MAG

The simplest and most budgetfriendly way to shop dresses is through resellers. Resellers can be found online, in thrift stores, or in small shops in your hometown. There are plenty of websites with people trying to get rid of old dresses. You can also always try to find hidden gems in any nearby thrift store. Nevertheless, if none of these options are in your favor, family or friends can be called upon to help advance your look with some vintage wear.

All in all, have fun and be YOU at prom! Prom is the night to enjoy with friends! Have fun being innovative and stylish! We’d like to thank The Party Trunk for providing all the dresses pictured in this shoot! 29︱M MAG

What in carnation? By Stella McDonald Prom is right around the corner. Something often neglected when perfecting your prom look is flowers. When selecting flowers for yourself or your date, you need to consider the color of your dress. There are two routes you can take when choosing your flowers. The first is to have a neutral base (like a white/cream) or choose a statement color.

Hot Pink/Orange Dresses With hot pink and orange dresses, you can either go with a pink or white base, then add different shades of pink/orange. Example Flowers: • Peony • Roses • Dahlia • Snap Dragon • Tulips • Cymbidium Orchid

31︱M MAG

Yellow Dresses Yellow dresses look amazing with a white floral base or light pink with hints of hot pink and greenery. Since yellow is such a bright color it is complemented with a neutral, light bouquet. Example Flowers: • Carnation • Tulips • Lilies • Mums

Dark Blue/Purple Dresses Since dark blue and purple are such bold colors, it is best to select a white flower base and add in small color accents. For your accents, you will want to look at the tones in your dress and find flowers that complement it. Example Flowers: • Iris • Corn Flower • Poppy • Lilac • Lavender 32︱M MAG

Red/Green Dresses Red and green dresses look best with a white floral base with hints of greenery as filler.

White/Black/Light Pink & Blue Dresses When you chose a white or black dress, your floral options are endless. Since your dress itself is more neutral, you can go down any path with what flowers you chose. Similarly, light pink, light blue, and other pastel colors look great with most types of flowers.

White Flowers

If you choose to go with a neutral base, there are plenty of show-stopping white flowers to add to your bouquet. Example Flowers: • Lily • Rose • Carnation • Ranunculus • Star of Bethlehem Filler Flowers To make your bouquet look complete, you add filler flowers. These flowers are often white or greenery. They make your bouquet look full and well-designed. Example Flowers: • Baby’s Breath • Silver Dollar Eucalypts • Queen Anne’s Lace • Yucca • Rice Flower • Bells of Ireland

Boutonnières Don’t forget the boys! A simply colored flower looks great for a boutonnière. Match it to your dress and pick a matching or corresponding ribbon color.
