Given the existing site conditions and the architectural diversity of the surrounding buildings, the varied elevations present an opportunity to utilise the roofscape. This“fifthfacade”aimstoenergisethesurroundingbuiltenvironment, drawing both residents and the public. The design objective is to create a performance facade using two primary elements: balconies and the roof. The PanoramaVoyage features a viewing facade from all sides and the roof. For instance, the balconies on the north facadearefoodstallsanddiningareas, whiletheroofcleverlysegmentsthebalconies to create interactive and performance spaces, highlighting the relationship between hawkers and residents on the north facade and the adjacent HDB corridor, respectively. Furthermore, the roof in the centre hosts an amphitheatre to foster community engagement with the neighbouring HDB blocks. Architecturally, the food stalls are thoughtfully arranged according to the different meals of the day. Inside, the roof’s configuration facilitates effective spatial zoning. The first level is centred around a bio-swale,an innovative feature for stormwater management collected on the roof, and stimulates a variety of horticulture-centric community activities at groundlevel, supportedbysustainablefoodwastemanagementpracticesonsite. The bio-swale enhanced both functionality and visual appeal. It is seamlessly integrated intotheexistingdrainageontheslopefacingtheparkconnector.Thisintegrationnot only ensures effective water management but also enriches the views from within the building, complementing the sequence of balconies. The design of the roof thus subtlyenhancesthefunctionalityandvisualsofthebalconies, crafting acohesive and interactive architectural experience.
