Monetary or Attachment?

In Tanglin Halt, First Satellite Town in Singapore, HDB’s biggest Selective En bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) plan in action. There is a tendency of residents giving up their attachment of the space to monetary. As more developed estates will be nearing their 99-years lease, it will be likely to be called for redevelopment. Hence, this underlying issue will escalate in the future.

INTERVENTION On a day to day basis of coming in and out of the estate, by foot or car, DÉJÀ VU allows the residents and the public to subtly experience and intensify the sense of absence through interactions in the space. Eventually, rekindling attachments by allowing the users to re-evaluate what is more valuable to them, be it monetary or attachment to their homes.

Birds Overpopulating Humans | Primarily for Users Transit by Foot

A phenomenon that can be seen in the vanishing estate, Tanglin Halt. By letting birds invade and overpopulate the space while harmonising with the existing high human flow. In the progress, interaction between the birds and humans creates a sense of absence as they overpowered us.

02.1 COBBLER

Reimagining Vanishing Trades | Primarily for Users Transit by Car

02.2 ROADSIDE BARBER As an estate vanishes, the people and trade within the spaces vanishes as well. By reimagining the vanishing trades while retaining it’s unique spatial elements. (Cobbler; Exposed, Roadside Barber; Hidden) within the multi-storey carpark. This encourages interaction to be made between the traders and users alike the past. Allowing the users to experience a sense of absence as the vanishing trades are still the same but different.

SKETCHES

The self-sustaining roof provides ample shade and reduces glare by the translucent (blue/orange) panels. The solar powered lightings located on top of the roof charge during the day and provides suďŹƒcient lighting during the night.

The vertical herb garden allows placement of insect repelling plants and improve hygiene of the space.

The structure is elevated to blend with the surrounding planter boxes and allows the construction of pavements on top of them.

The slant/tilted structure will allow sound from the central atrium to bounce o improving acoustic comfort in the space.

The dierent leveled pavements serves as a multi-purpose which are used as tables and seats, as well as walkways , allowing students to walk across the structure.
