A Meaningful Supply Chain Strengthening a Cyclical Economy

At Alterra, we prioritize purpose-driven partnerships that create lasting community impact. This year, Winter Park proudly partnered with Tocabe, a Native Americanowned and operated restaurant, to open multiple locations on the mountain.

“Tocabe’s menu, rooted in Native American cuisine, features ingredients sourced from several Tribal Community suppliers. This approach benefits multiple Native communities while connecting the land’s purpose to nourishment, community investment, and recreation. The partnership exemplifies how a thoughtful business relationship can enrich the resort, its guests, and its suppliers while uplifting Native American communities.

We have a mantra of native first, local second. We can't be a native based restaurant if we're not supporting native food production. It’s really important to us as a business to create a cyclical community, an economy and food system, as that’s how we can continue to thrive as a people, as a culture, as a community, and as a business.

Diverse Perspectives

KEY IMPACTS THIS YEAR

We continue to welcome a wide range of people to our mountains, strengthening our understanding of who we serve by upgrading our assessment of guest and employee data to help inform meaningful action.

Perspectives

How We Track Diverse Representation

We track demographic information as one of many data points reflecting a wide range of people in our workforce. Understanding our workforce data helps us track opportunities for all.

Gender Identity (US & CAN)

*Data on employees identifying as Nonbinary was not available in FY22.

American Indian or Alaska Native

Race & Ethnicity (US Only)

This data mirrors the U.S. EEO1 reporting categories for U.S. employees only. For FY24, similar to the EE01 Reporting, individuals who identify with more than one race are included in the “Two or More Races” category. Percentages are representative of known data.

Mental Well-Being & Resilience

KEY IMPACTS THIS YEAR

This year, we made significant strides in supporting our employees’ mental well-being & resilience. This included providing more industry specific mental well-being resources than ever, including 70 employees stepping up as mental health champions to lead localized programs to foster wellbeing. Additionally, we expanded Employee Assistance Program services, providing employees and their families with greater access to professional mental health support.

Our Mental Well-Being & Resilience Program

Working in the ski industry can present unique challenges to mental well-being, and our Mental Well-Being & Resilience Program proactively supports employees while working to end the stigma around seeking help. Through education, collaboration, and targeted initiatives, the program fosters healthy workplaces across Alterra destinations, using data to measure progress and refine strategy.

“Far from commodifying our employees, we strive to create workplaces and communities that lift them up. Each employee is an individual with hopes, dreams, skills, and talents; it’s incumbent upon us to support their wellbeing as they work to create an amazing guest experience.

How We Track Mental Well-Being & Resilience

Understanding the unique challenges of mountain resort communities, Alterra refines its Mental Well-Being & Resilience programming through a blend of data-driven strategies and industry best practices.

Employee Engagement Survey

Listening to employees is key to understanding concerns and driving meaningful improvements. This year we saw a need to communicate better regarding our mental health resources and set a company-wide goal to increase perceptions of leadership support for mental well-being. In our most recent survey, 77% of employees reported a clear understanding of the mental health resources available to them - a rise from 72%. Enhanced survey tools and continuous listening capabilities will further measure and advance progress in this area.

Training Efficacy

In 2024, nearly 14,000 online, virtual, and live trainings received an overall satisfaction rating of 4.06/5, reflecting their positive impact. By leveraging data-driven insights, we continue to deliver targeted interventions that enhance well-being where they are needed most.

Planet

Grounded in science-based targets, our commitment to planetary health guides every action we take to sustain and regenerate the places we treasure. This work is more than a responsibility — it’s an investment in the well-being of our communities, the resilience of our business, and the future of our industry. The need to act is undeniable, and we are dedicated to driving progress through bold action and meaningful advocacy.

Planet

We belong to the mountains. The mountains are where our lives and livelihoods converge, inspiring us to act on the challenges posed by climate change. As resort operators and adventurers, we face ecological, social, and economic risks head-on, driven by an unwavering commitment to climate action. Guided by science-based targets, we aim to achieve our 2030 emission reduction goals of 50% in owned and controlled operations and purchased energy from our 2022 baseline. Partnering with industry experts to audit and verify our progress, we embrace the challenge of reducing our ecological footprint across every destination in our portfolio.

OUR BLUEPRINT

Electrification

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning toward electric buildings and fleets supported by renewable clean energy.

Efficiency

Conserving energy through smart technologies, optimized operations and end-user behavioral strategies.

Renewable Energy

Leveraging our scale to transition toward clean and renewable thermal and electrical power supply at both the district and building level.

Waste Diversion

Limit landfill waste through innovation in our supply chain and operations.

Advocacy & Collaboration

Engaging stakeholders and partners on shared decarbonization strategies and policies.

Progression Highlights This Year

Palisades Tahoe,

Piloted electric snowmobile capabilities at 15 destinations.

Installed ~500 smart thermostats as part of the company-wide Active Energy Management initiative to enhance facility efficiency.

Established a baseline for water usage across our portfolio.

Created and enacted the Alterra Minimum Requirements (AMRs) to guide sustainability across all new design, development, and construction projects.

Dedicated to Tomorrow

We are boldly pursuing science-based carbon reduction goals with three ambitious targets for 2030, driving innovation and transformative change across our operations. These commitments serve as our north star, guiding our relentless dedication to climate action.

Transition to 100% Renewable Energy

Our pledge is unwavering. By 2030, we are committed to powering our operations with 100% renewable electricity. Through a strategic mix of onsite and offsite renewable energy projects and strong partnerships with utility providers, we are delivering on this critical promise.

Reduce Carbon Emissions by Over 50%

In an innovative industry approach, through our partnership with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we’ve secured third-party validation for an ambitious goal: cutting owned, controlled, and purchased energy emissions by over half by 2030. This effort aligns with the Paris Agreement and extends beyond our direct operations, encouraging suppliers and partners to join us in accelerating industrywide progress.

Attain Carbon Neutrality

In addition to our Science-Based Target, we are aggressively working towards complete decarbonization within our owned operations and value chain. We emphasize operational upgrades and decarbonization and integrating high-quality carbon offsets as a last resort when alternative solutions are unavailable, in alignment with guidance from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s. This balanced approach propels us toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Evaluating our GHG Emissions

Reducing our carbon footprint is essential to addressing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Guided by data and aligned with climate science, we implement measurable strategies for meaningful reductions. Partnering with Watershed, we refined our baseline data to incorporate new factors and account for recent portfolio acquisitions.

In FY24, our Scope 1 and 2 emissions totaled 140,925 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e), a ~4% reduction from last year. Together, Scope 1 and 2 emissions represent approximately 34% of our annual emissions, totaling 413,286 when including Scope 3.
