I. Introduction
The AFS India Regional Meet for North Zone Member Schools was held at Pinegrove School, Dharampur from 12 - 14 May 2023. This prestigious event brought together representatives, directors, principals, educators, and students from 38 renowned schools across North India [60+ Educators and School Leaders & 65+ students].
The opening ceremony was graced by Mr. Sanjay Kundu (IPS), the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, who served as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Zahur H. Zaidi (IPS), the Inspector General (Admin) Shimla, who attended as the Guest of Honour. The event aimed to foster inspiring discussions and encourage imaginative thinking in the field of global education.
The success of this event would not have been possible without the graciousness and support of Pinegrove School, Dharampur, and its Executive Director, Capt. A J Singh, along with his team of dedicated educators and students. Their warm hospitality, meticulous planning, and efforts to ensure a seamless event were instrumental in creating a conducive environment for productive discussions and meaningful interactions.
II. Key Representation from AFS India

The event was attended by the following esteemed individuals from AFS India Team. Their presence added valuable insights and expertise to the discussions.

III. Engaging Sessions and Discussions
The event commenced with a mesmerizing music and dance performance that captivated the audience and set the stage for stimulating conversations. Renowned experts and distinguished guests addressed the gathering on the theme of 'Inspire and Imagine.'
● Mr. Sanjay Kundu (IPS), the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh addressed the gathering with his thoughts on the role of global education in fostering empathy and emphasized the importance of discipline in students' journey toward success.
● Lt. Gen. Surendra Kulkarni, the Director of Mayo College Ajmer, conducted a session titled 'In Matters of Leadership, Leaders Matter, ' offering valuable insights on leadership.
● Dr. Sumer Singh presented his erudition on 'Reimagining AFS, ' tailored specifically for school principals and educators.
● Mr. Jayant Krishna led an enriching session exclusively for students, focusing on 'Nurturing a Global Mindset for all Round Success'
IV. Session on AFS Program

Furthermore, a session was facilitated by Ms. Manjula Devi during the AFS India Regional Meet with the support of three AFS Program Alumni, a host father who had recently hosted an AFS student for one year, and AFS Global Competence Certificate participants. These individuals shared their personal experiences and insights, highlighting the transformative power of AFS programs.

The alumni spoke passionately about how their intercultural experiences broadened their perspectives, enhanced their global competence, and contributed to their personal and professional growth. The host father shared heartwarming anecdotes about his family's journey of hosting an AFS student and emphasized the profound impact it had on their lives. The AFS Global Competence Certificate participant discussed the valuable skills and knowledge gained through the certificate program, which equips individuals with the necessary tools to thrive in an interconnected world.
This session provided a unique perspective on the long-lasting effects of AFS programs and further emphasized the importance of fostering intercultural understanding and global citizenship.
V. Announcement of MU20 Indore Program Oct-Nov 2023
During the AFS India Regional Meet, Mr Tejas Jain, Chief Executive Officer, Muniversiti EdCorp made an exciting announcement about the upcoming MU20 Indore Program, scheduled to take place in October/November 2023. The team highlighted the success of the Indore World Summit held in 2022, which brought together young change-makers and leaders from around the world to discuss pressing global issues. Building on the momentum generated by the summit, the MU20 Indore Program aims to provide a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a multicultural environment and develop essential skills for global citizenship.
The program, a collaboration between AFS India and Muniversiti Edcorp, serves as a fundraising initiative to create a scholarship fund. The funds raised through this program will be used to provide scholarships to deserving students, enabling them to access life-changing intercultural experiences through AFS programs.
The Muniversiti Team shared details about the program, including its curriculum, and cultural activities This announcement generated enthusiasm and anticipation among the attendees, as it presented a remarkable chance for schools to participate in a transformative program while supporting a noble cause.

VI. Student’s Project on UN SDGs #knowyourgoals
One of the highlights of the AFS India Regional Meet at Pinegrove School was the assignment undertaken by participating students, focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of the event, the students prepared a creative display called #knowyourgoals, showcasing the different SDGs and their importance in creating a sustainable future. The students worked diligently to design eye-catching posters and artwork that represented each goal, incorporating thought-provoking messages and visuals.
The culmination of their efforts was a big wall exhibit at Pinegrove School adorned with the displays; capturing the attention and sparking conversations among the attendees. The #knowyourgoals assignment not only demonstrated the students' understanding of the SDGs but also encouraged others to learn more about these crucial global objectives and take action toward achieving them. The initiative received praise and appreciation from the guests and served as a testament to the passion and commitment of the young generation to addressing global challenges.
VII. Way Forward 2023-24 | Brainstorming & Ideation
The AFS India Regional Meet featured an engaging group activity called ‘Roses, Thorns & Buds,’ conducted by Ms. Diya Badgel and Mr. Rashid Sharfuddin. The participants were divided into three groups - school leaders, educators, and students. This activity aimed to stimulate discussions about AFS Programs and collaboration with AFS India. After ample time for group discussions, each group took turns to present their collective ideas on the main stage, in front of an attentive audience The school leaders emphasized integrating AFS Programs into the curriculum, while educators focused on professional development and collaborative projects. Students shared their transformative experiences and proposed ideas to expand AFS participation. The presentations sparked lively discussions, showcasing the enthusiasm and commitment of participants.
Mr Rashid Sharfuddin concluded the session by summarizing the points shared and discussed by each group. This activity exemplified the collaborative spirit of AFS, encouraging imaginative thinking and envisioning new possibilities for AFS engagement in India. The ideas generated have the potential to shape the future of AFS Programs and collaboration, fostering a stronger network

dedicated to intercultural understanding and global education. The group activity added depth and richness to the event, promoting a culture of collaboration and inclusivity.
VIII. Visits and Exploration
In addition to the enlightening sessions, the distinguished guests and student delegates had the opportunity to explore the local area. The guests visited the Mohan Meakin Brewery in Kasauli, gaining insights into the brewing process and local industry. Meanwhile, the students enjoyed a trip to the PA Pinions Watch Factory in Dharampur, where they learned about watchmaking craftsmanship. The following day, the guests were taken for a visit to Kasauli, allowing them to experience the beauty and culture of the region.
IX. Token of Appreciation
To express heartfelt gratitude, tokens of appreciation and regard were presented to the distinguished guests, keynote speakers, AFS team members, school heads, educators, and student delegates. This gesture acknowledged their valuable contributions to the event's success and highlighted their role in fostering a culture of global education.
X. Conclusion
The AFS India Regional Meet – North Zone Member Schools was a resounding success, thanks to the exceptional support and dedication of the team at Pinegrove School.
